Erm, I am revealing my geekiness - which Smiths song???

ZJ - who knew you were so anal with your list!! I love it!

Kayzr · 09/08/2011 14:33

Sybs how awful for your friend.

I am trying not to watch the news but I can't seem to turn it off. I've never seen anything so horrible. I just don't see the bloody point for it at all.

Beans I might be revealing the fact I am a baby but I had to google the Smiths as I had no idea who they were/are. I do recognise some song names though.

DP went to work this morning Sad and the boys are with XH this afternoon so I have nothing to do. Trying not to cry too much about DP has gone and that the news from London is upsetting.

sybilfaulty · 09/08/2011 15:38

OK, jst popped to local high street (think Poundland and Iceland, nowt fancy) and confronted by loads of men with cricket bats outside shops. All shops with shutters had them down. Police advised me to go home straight away. We beat a hasty retreat.

I don't like this at all. Am listening for sirens and helicopters.

DeidreBarlow · 09/08/2011 16:08

Oh sybs please keep safe that sounds so scary.

I just can't for the life of me fathom WTF is happening! Its just crazy, there is no sense to any of it. It will achieve absolutely nothing and the sad thing is the people doing it are too braindead to realise this or care about the consequences of their actions.

I'm also more annoyed by seeing Cameron/Milliband ponce round the streets tutting and shaking their heads. And for those they do catch and face "the full force of the law" will likely achieve nothing more than a caution. Crazy.

DeidreBarlow · 09/08/2011 16:09

beans Where are you?? Sorry my brain can't recall where everyone is. Am praying that EVERYONE is safe.

Beans36 · 09/08/2011 16:20

Sybs - christ! Which local high street was that??? We're in Streatham - guessing we'll be ok for a bit, but had to collect DD1 from nursery early as they're closing at 4.30 and went into Balham and Waitrose was closed, with Sainsbury's to follow shortly after... Was packed. Won't be long til that's under attack, I suspect. All small shuts had shutters down. Apparently it's started in Tooting and Wandsworth so far too. EEK!

JollyBear · 09/08/2011 16:27

Beans, Syb All.London ladies, please stay safe. sybil's post gave me the shivers. Absolutely terrifying. Everyone stay indoors.

Beans36 · 09/08/2011 16:49

It is nuts, isn't it? I can feel every Daily Mail bone in my body bristling with rage and indignation....

VagolaJahooli · 09/08/2011 16:56

Kayz its ok your too young for the Smiths. Beans you have no excuse your English and of a certain age...but I'll let you off because I like you. The Smiths song 'Panic' has the lines, "Panic on the streets of London/Panic on the streets of Birmingham", as of last night they were the two cities effected, now there are more, not sure if Humberside has gotten in yet.

Sybs that us terrible. Do you have enough food...and goods that only cost a pound? Were the men with bats protecting the shops or were they looters? I'm glad you took the guidance of the police. Those poor police must be shattered. I just can't shake the feeling that things are going to get worse.

Beans36 · 09/08/2011 17:02

Me too, Vag - think it's going to go nuts before too long. Bit scary. Shows how close we are to chaos. Society is a fragile thing and it's on the edge of being a bit shattered.

I am a music square, I'm afraid. My faves were always things like The Bluebells and Bryan Adams and Let Loose etc. Wasn't "dark" enough to do the Smiths!!

Kayzr · 09/08/2011 17:32

I think it will get worse too, I seriously hope it doesn't but I think it will do.

Beans36 · 09/08/2011 18:19

Although, must say, I think the media are fanning flames of fear. It might not be as bad as everyone saying it will be. Fingers crossed!

DeidreBarlow · 09/08/2011 18:30

Agreed beans the media certainly don't hold back do they?

I really feel for the Police. If they had gone in all guns blazing 3 nights ago they would have been slammed for their heavy handed tactics. Now people are shouting that they have been to slack in their approach/shoot them/bring in the tanks. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

DeidreBarlow · 09/08/2011 18:32

Oh no my friend in Manchester has just text to say its starting to kick off. She's scared Sad.

ZuleikaJambiere · 09/08/2011 21:51

Sybs that is terrifying. Were the DCs with you? Please all London ladies, and all city ladies, just stay safe. xx

JollyBear · 09/08/2011 22:06

Hello everyone,

This rioting is just frightening. I can't believe Manchester is a no go zone now. I was desperately texting friends earlier who work near Piccadilly gardens. Just deadful and upsetting.

kiwi Wow you have a lot on your plate. Hope you get the house sorted. I'm sure Zoe's list will cover most bases, she is a list genius. All I'd say is that I'd forgotton how quickly they grow. We moved just after DD2 was born and left boxes of 3-6 month+ clothes at the in-laws. I had to get them back sharpish! At the time 3 months seemed like forever.

vag Smile at needing goods that cost £1. Awful facebook posting. I thought that sort of language became unacceptable a long time ago.

Love the Smiths although didn't get into them until the 6th form. At school I was more keen on Bon Jovi!

ZJ Was it your scan today or have I got very mixed up?

I overheard DD1 telling DD2 today that if she uses the potty she'll get a chocolate button Grin. Still no action but the seed of sucess may have been planted. I'm finding the lack of afternoon nap from DD1 hard workl. She gets fed up in the afternoons as she is tired and doesn't want to do much. I took her to something at the children's centre which was great for her but meant DD2 didn't get a proper nap and was shockingly tired and grumpy. I can't seem to get a good balance. I'm sure I'll work it out but I'm missing a nap too!

Beans36 · 10/08/2011 08:54

I seem to have a bit of a crush on Daniel Craig at the moment. What's going on?

Relatively quiet night in London last night - hope the rest of the country quietens down today as well.

I have DDs in nursery today. DD2 going in after her sleep. Brilliant. Have paid in fruit again. I will then go for a run, go to the shops and do some cleaning. Yeeehah!

Tried DD1 without a nappy last night. She didn't wet the bed at all, but she needed a wee 3 times in the night and cried when she needed it and I had to take her to the potty. I am very proud of her for being dry, but how come, when we have accidentally left a nappy off her, she's mostly slept through with no wees, but when I do it on purpose, she's up loads!!! Bugger. Added to that, DD2 was up 4 times. YAWN! Think I will sleep when she does today! DD1 was up and ready for action at 6.30. In no uncertain terms, I showed DH I wasn't getting up for her - pillow over head. Ha! He didn't even flinch with the wakings last night. Now, the question is.... Do I go back to nappies???

Sybs - have you recovered from your incident? I hope you're ok. Are everyones' friends ok?

Nolda · 10/08/2011 10:02

Very concerned for those of us living in London and other areas affected by the riots. Keep safe everyone.

Beans - Hands off Daniel Craig, he's mine!

DeidreBarlow · 10/08/2011 10:37

Beans Is DD1's nappy usually dry in the morning? DD never ever wee'd in her nightime nappy so we just left it off. And she has never really had any accidents. If they are dry I'd say leave them off....you could always lift her to the toilet when you go to bed. That might stop the night wakings, but she'd still be dry??

I don't really get the Daniel Craig attractionHmm

Hope everyone close to the troubles is safe. Was encouraging to see London quieter last night.

DeidreBarlow · 10/08/2011 10:40

Oh and vag on the FB racism thing. I have had 2 or 3 'friends' bang on about it due to the riots. I have de-friended them. I really can do without their bollocks tbh.

Beans36 · 10/08/2011 12:11

DB - yes, usually dry in the mornings. I did lift her at 10.30 last night, but she was up at 2.30, 4.30 and 6.30 for a wee. Quite odd and not a little tiring. Never mind. Snooze alert when both DDs in nursery this pm - yeehah! Might snooze in the garden, for maximum enjoyment. Oh bliss. So long since I've had time just on my own! I ought to be cleaning and going for a run etc, but who can be bothered? Have done my shop this morning, so time is mine.... AND DH has agreed to be home for 7, so I can run then - it's a bit cooler then tooo........ Evil me.

Beans36 · 10/08/2011 12:11

PS Yes, think will persevere with no nappies, at least for a few nights. xx

Beans36 · 10/08/2011 14:24

Ooh, I just fell asleep in the sunshine while DD2 sleeps upstairs. V nice and have a lovely colour on my back. Sadly, I was wearing my 3/4 length jeans and now have a stripe of colour at bottom of legs. Tit!

DeidreBarlow · 10/08/2011 16:48

Sunshine??!!! Its pissing down here and has been all day, bloody freezing too! Oh the joys of living in the NorthHmm

DS has gone 4 whole days now without any accidents and has just asked to poo in his potty. Phew, can't believe how well he has done...just goes toshow they do it when they are ready as when I tried about 2 months ago he didn't have a clue what he was doing.

I'm starving and DH won't be home till 9ish for supper. Think I might just eat mine with the DC's and then have seconds when he gets homeGrin

JumpJockey · 10/08/2011 19:25

Just checking in to send safety vibes to anyone near any of these bloody idiot rioters. All going ok here, sleep utterly gone to pot but there is cheese and wine and friends. And a massive trampoline, which we will def have to get for new hoise. Our buyers cirrently thinking of pullong out becuse they insist they can only move in the first two weeks of sept, which are completely impossible for us ( as they have known for ages), if they do then more foolthem really but a nice bit of extra stress we can do without, sigh...
Anyway - duck confit for lunch today and some top singing, so the main things are going fine :)
