So we don't scare the viroids on the antenatal thread with horror stories of no sleep, chomped boobs and endless laundry or make them envious with tales of cuteness....

COAWF I you got some sleep and all ok now. I remember someone said that you worry from the moment you get your BFP and it's so true!

I'm sooo tired as DD is on a sleep strike it takes her 2 hours to settle and then wakes every 2 hours from sleeping through like she was a few weeks ago Sad agh this to shall pass!

Baby2b · 13/09/2011 12:46

With you on the sleep deprived front. Ds had bad wind so was up for hours last night. Just feeding him now and hoping for an afternoon snooze!

On a positive note we went to Edinburgh registry office today and ds is now an official person. Beautiful building so good photo op for the scrap book Grin

Baby2b · 13/09/2011 19:57

Big snooze this afternoon followed by a roast chicken dinner and I feel like a new womenSmile

Slight disaster tonight though. Ds peed on his clothes when I was changing him. Lifted him and asked dh to wipe changing table. Ds did massive fart, which I quickly realised was a big poo. All down my pjs, over my feet and most of it on the cream carpet! Think the vanish has got most of it out. Dh couldn't help for laughing. Ds just looked content. Mat for under changing table has been added to shopping list! Grin

Eskarina · 13/09/2011 20:22

Glad your ds is ok COAWM.

We registered DD today too. Sadly the Hertford registry office isn't so pretty, but does have lovely gardens so DH took DD for a walk around them whilst we waited ages for the registrar. They had a problem with their printer so we were waiting ages.

DD has taken to sleeping virtually through the night (on the "midnight to six" definition) the last 3 nights. This would be fab, except that I still wake to a) worry that she should be waking up to feed and b) to sort out the copious leaking from my boobs. Last night I had 3 pads on each side. I still woke up soaked from chin to belly.
Unfortunately she doesn't sleep in the day. Yesterday she went from 10am to 10.30pm with only power naps of no more than about 15 mins. DH was at work so I was exhausted by the time he came home. She does need to sleep of course so was a screaming demon all day. Thankfully people from our church are bringing us meals this week so I didn't need to think about cooking. In fact the person who brought yesterday's meal found herself holding baby for a while so I could bolt down some toast for lunch.
Of course as DH has been home to help today DD has been sweetness and light all day.

vallinnapod · 15/09/2011 21:46

Evening all!

Nearly had a little cry today as DS is almost out of his newborn clothes Shock He is a looooong baby but still Sad

His cord finally fell off last night too (at two weeks old!) No one warned me how 'umbilical' it would be underneath.

I also think I have a very advanced child as he is already lifting his head by himself when he is lying on my chest Grin

ConfessionsOfAWareFanjo · 16/09/2011 11:11

I hate stress. Stress makes me retain weight. All the walking I do means I should be losing at least a little bit of weight. Instead I still look four months pg. :(

At least DS is over his ordeal and I've managed to get some sleep (when DD isn't thrashing about in her sleep and waking me up). Now I just need all the other stress to ef off. Gah, sorry to be moaning.

I know how you feel about the clothes Val Both my DC are tall/long so go through clothes fast. DD has been in 3-6 months for a few weeks now. She's only 11 weeks!

well off to walk and pick up DS, in the rain. Joy oh joy. Homemade mushroom soup to look forward to when I get back though. Grin

vallinnapod · 16/09/2011 16:11

Oh loooove mushroom soup! Sorry about all the stresses, really not what you want.

Just been discharged from the midwife care, quite sad about it. Not sure why, found then a bit 'bleurh' antenatal but totally fab postnatal. DS was remarked upon as being long! Also now 8lbs!!

vallinnapod · 17/09/2011 20:22

In our bumgenius newborns today...they are not going to last long! Already almost on the widest part of the fastening!

fraktious · 17/09/2011 20:41

With you all on the growing - we broke put the 6-9 month clothes this week as even with vest extenders to cover his megabum (or nighttime gigabum) the 3-6 weren't cutting it.

He spent 3 days in nb size...

Hope you and your DS are okay C - can't remember who's confessing what now. Sounds a bit scary.

Argh! Crying!

OP posts:
Baby2b · 18/09/2011 04:04

They do grow so fast. Really exciting on one hand, sad on the other.

I feel like a bad mummy tonight. Ds normally wakes plenty during the night. Tonight he took a good feed at 10pm and didn't wake until half 3. Blush At 3 weeks old I feel this is too long. Though people keep saying never wake a sleeping baby?!

Eskarina · 18/09/2011 04:07

Middle of the night feed here..
DD is with all of you on the growing. She's a long bodied skinny minnie (don't know where she gets that from - DH and I are short!) vest extenders are essential even when she's not wearing cloth nappies (we use disposables at night still, mostly because we've had SO many given). Newborn clothes still fit but only just.but 0-3 clothes look ridiculous on her. I want her to have a dress to wear. We have lots of beautiful ones that she's been given as presents but all are 3-6 months so way too big, but she has so many baby gros that it seems wasteful to buy yet more clothes.
Also has become a champion at peeing (and worse) in the milliseconds her nappy is off on the changing table. Yesterday she did an explosive poo all over it. Was v relieved that I'd kept her and clothes out of it only for her to pee all over the spare changing mat, her clothes and me. DH had to come and help out with that one!

Eskarina · 18/09/2011 04:08

Oh also glad I didn't buy any more BG newborns as she's nearly outgrown them too. Was so tempted as they looked so cute on her at first. Good thing the flips fit already.

Eskarina · 18/09/2011 04:15

X-posts baby! Unless you think your DS is unwell I wouldn't worry. DD has regularly done stints of 5 (or more) hours overnight. I do wake her if it gets to more than 6 hours though. But I find that if I have to wake her she's either too sleepy or too cross with me for disturbing her that she doesn't feed well anyway.
I would say enjoy the sleep but I find I wake at least 3 hourly anyway to make sure she's ok!

Baby2b · 18/09/2011 09:47

I ended up waking him because I was sitting worrying and watching him sleep GrinBlush

Another tall and slim baby here. The 0-3 months look really baggy, but not much life left in the newborn. I don't really have any outfits here, just a mountain of blue sleepsuits. Val, you will be pleased to know that the unisex ones I bought have confused lots of people. Grin

Still mostly using disposables here as the bg look huge and I didn't buy any newborn ones. Will be making the switch soon though.

ConfessionsOfAWareFanjo · 18/09/2011 12:24

I've confused people by dressing DD in a blue dress with a white cardi and blue and white bib on. People really do just look at the colour don't they?

vallinnapod · 19/09/2011 16:41

I bought some sleepsuits online which have touch of pink so looking forward to confusing the old ladies Wink

Question mamas - dummies. Views? DS is a suckler, sometimes we only feed for 5 mins which I feel is a comfort stop rather than a thirst/food stop. He is also waking for quite long periods at night for the hell of it - as in just to grumble and be awake, he's fed and dry just not keen to go back to sleep. I was wondering if a dummy could help? Any opinions gratefully received!

We are in our Itti Bittis now. Needing to remember to change a lot more frequently so had a couple of leaks today. We are learning!

ConfessionsOfAWareFanjo · 19/09/2011 21:09

I have to finger suckers so can't really help with the pacifier question sorry. Though I am toying with the idea of giving one to DD as we have had so many problems with DS and his sucking fingers. I figure a pacifier can't get persistent thrush in it AND it can physically be removed. But then apparently usig them can cause your period to come back AND DH is dead against them (his fingers may hurt, but it's a comfort thing blah blah blah) and I don't have the energy to argue.

Feeling better today. Amazing what a terrible good chick flick while everyone else is in bed asleep can do Grin

Baby2b · 20/09/2011 03:17

I don't have a problem with dummies unless the child is getting too old for them. I'm avoiding using them for now though. Ds tends to only cry or grumble for a reason at the moment and don't want to miss his hunger signs. Trying to always feed etc before it turns to crying. Plus I don't mind him using the boob for comfort. I suppose it might be different if he wasn't settling. Sorry, not really much help Grin

fraktious · 20/09/2011 05:40

val how old is T now? I personally wouldn't before a month - we didn't until 6 weeks - as even non-productive sucking stimulates supply and that need to have boob might be an expression of needing to be close rather than to suck IYSWIM. If it got unbearable I palmed him off onto DH for skin/skin and a finger.

vallinnapod · 20/09/2011 12:00

Thanks for the advice. One good night's sleep and the thought of dummies has zoomed from my mind!

I am now fretting/annoyed as his Itti Bittis leak all the time. They are definitely tight enough round the waist and don't seem too baggy around his legs but they are soaked the second he wees at the moment. I almost expected it at night as he does go 3-4 hours which I thought may be pushing them but this morning he had leaked in an hour :( Seem to be lined enough and last night I boosted further with fleece liners. Bit disheartened by it all.

Off to the nappy boards to see if anyone has any hints and tips.

Oh...what chic flic did you watch COAWF?

KateeTheBump · 20/09/2011 12:18

Very jealous of you lot and your babies Envy Grin - about 4 or so weeks to go here now (36+2) and the antenatal thread is looking very empty... I think we're down to three of us now!

Looking forward to coming and joining you asap Smile

fraktious · 20/09/2011 12:24

Have you got the absorbency up by washing them a couple of times? If you pour a glass of water over them is there a lot of runoff? Is it a leak in a specific area or all over?

Lots of questions! But there are so many reasons nappies can leak...

OP posts:
vallinnapod · 20/09/2011 12:50

I have washed the boosters 4 or 5 times but not the outer nappy yet. Could that be an issue?

Off to do the glass of water test!

Katee - not long now Grin

Eskarina · 20/09/2011 18:02

On the dummies thing...I have given DD one occasionally almost from the start, despite the 1month advice. She also gets a finger quite regularly. I figured that as she was feeding strongly it wouldn't hurt the latch, and it hasn't. Supply is fine too. BUT I only give her it if I wouldn't feed her anyway so straight after a big feed or when we're out and about. Next thing to think about is how to introduce a bottle. Not easy though as I don't want to use formula but I tried expressing yesterday eve and it bloody hurt, left my nipples swollen and elongated AND produced about 4 drops. I don't necessarily want the bottle to be a regular thing but eventually I do want to be able to be able to be separated from DD for more than an hour!

Shame about the nappies. Only thing i wondered is whether boosting with fleece is the best thing? I thought it wasn't very absorbent. Maybe try boosting with a bamboo/hemp/towelling booster, or even a muslin. I think itti bitti do extra booster sets too.
We've had leaks from the BG newborns so I'm going to have to give up on those soon. We've been using disposables over night so far as I thought they kept dd's bum drier. But they've leaked the last 3 nights so I either need to go up a size to get more absorbency or work out how to boost either the flips or bamboozles enough.

I think we're falling into a workable pattern here. We get a reasonable night of sleep and I'm starting to see a pattern in daytimes, thank goodness, I need a bit of sanity back

Baby2b · 21/09/2011 02:08

Just lost post Angry

esk the website Kelly's mom has lots of useful advice. Have you tried hand expressing? I started expressing this week using tomee tipee electric pump. I massaged my boobs to begin with to help the let down and it seemed to increase production if I looked at ds. I was really worried about him accepting a bottle, but he wasn't bothered in the slightest.
