So we don't scare the viroids on the antenatal thread with horror stories of no sleep, chomped boobs and endless laundry or make them envious with tales of cuteness....

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
CuriosityCola · 23/12/2011 16:31

Are you ok Val? What has it stained? I prewash cold and put vests on a 40 degree wash. If it's still stained I put it outside for the sun to bleach.

vallinnapod · 23/12/2011 21:18

2 days, 2 poos both managed to leak out all over DS - and today over DH too. Be lying if that didn't make me Grin a lot bit. All over his bodysuits and trousers and DH's jeans and jumper. Ce la vie...

Coincidently both occurred after he had been in the Bumbo and twisting a lot so assuming it caused his nappy to gape.

CuriosityCola · 24/12/2011 03:09

The bumbo made ds's nappy leak a poo dh at breakfast the other morning too Grin

In not so good news, ds is snacking on my half hourly during the night. My nipples are raw and I think I'm getting a cold Sad. I really need some sleep. Out of expressed milk, so tempted to give him some formula.

OhFraktiousTree · 24/12/2011 06:50

val I'm here! Not lurking but travelling...

UV stuff a must, how old will he be? No sun lotion until 6 months unfortunately.

Flight - book a skycot now and keep checking that you still have it. Check your baggage allowance carefully and whether that includes carseat and pushchair. Don't bother taking pushchair to the plane if you're single handed, get an ergo or similar (not a baby Bjorn type carrier, a decent one that won't knacker your back). Take lots of quiet toys that rattle or are shiny and if you have an iPhone then invest in a protective case that turns it into a toy. I preemptively altered DS's routine so new bedtime coincided with just after the meal on the flight, which was served roughly on Paris time. Take plenty of changes of clothes and a nappy for every hour of the journey. Planes do bad things to small tummies. Even though we BLW I went for purée on the plane (shop bought Wink) because you don't want a choking incident at 30000 feet. Also take a couple of changes of clothes for you.

Heat - M just wears a nappy and sometimes a body. If there's aircon inside he will get really thirsty and wakes 4/5 times a night even if a good sleeper usually. You can offer boob if BF, or if 6months+ water. Evian is the best mineral water. I do have a list of what's safe which I'll find and post. Obviously stay out of the midday heat even in the shade, limit car journeys as he'll get hot and scratchy, have plenty of naked time to prevent heat rash... I now have memory fail on what you asked.

Will check in properly at some point.

Merry Christmas everyone Grin

vallinnapod · 24/12/2011 08:56

Frak thank you so much. Especially for the suntan lotion advice. Will invest in a trendy hat and UV suit for a couple of trips into the sea. The rest of the time I plane to have him in the shade/inside. Wasn't going to bother with a parasol, a large muslin and pegs. Plus my Uppababy has a UV shield. Will be putting him in the toddler seat for a week as it is the only way the Uppababy can travel. He will be 4.5 months.

Flying BA who have a great baggage allowance. Not only does he get the stroller and carseat but also a bag! I was going to take the stroller to the gate as I find going to the loo in the Ergo really difficult Blush I will reconsider though. The other concern if I don't take it to the gate will it mean it comes off the plane late I.e with the suitcases rather than first?

Apparently there is air con everywhere so good tip on the BF. Thankfully still fully BF so the plane packing should be relatively easy food-wise. Good tip re: clothes for me! Thanks again.

CC I sympathise Sad we are going through something similar. Growth spurt coupled with teething here. Wouldn't settle last night until 10:30ish and even then woke 3 times between then and 8 Sad. I figure over the next few days his routine (such as it is) will suffer somewhat any way.

Am sure I will be around later but Happy Christmas to you all your lovely babies (and families!) xxx

OhFraktiousTree · 24/12/2011 09:02

They always come out last at oversize baggage anyway!

Master an Ergo back carry for loo trips.

CuriosityCola · 24/12/2011 13:33

I used my ergo for travelling to London. There should be some parent and child toilets, so lay ds on mat while you go?

For your buggy, make sure everything is clicked together and extra parts are taken off. I forgot to take my car seat adapters off and they arrived broken (very nice and quick service to get fixed though).

vallinnapod · 24/12/2011 16:11

Thanks. Uppababy make a travel bag which I have purchased. As long as your pushchair and bag are registered with then and in their 2 year warranty they will fix/replace any damage.

Good tip re: Ergo loo trips! When did you use (or do you still) the newborn insert until? DS seems too big for it (14lbs) but too little to straddle my waist if that makes sense?!

CuriosityCola · 24/12/2011 18:42

I still use the insert without the 'pillow' part. Need to give it a try on my back.

Not sure I will get on here much. I hope everyone has a lovely Christmas. Xmas Smile

Nickel, hope you are recovering well and enjoying new baby cuddles.

Eskarina · 25/12/2011 08:36

Morning, and a happy Christmas everyone.

ConfessionsOfATinselFanjo · 25/12/2011 13:35

Happy Christmas all. Hope you're LOs are enjoying their first visit from Santa. We'll be stepping up things up with DD today. She's going to have her first real meal at the table with the whole family, rather than just chunks of fruit or veg.

Eskarina · 29/12/2011 02:17

Urrggh. Dd is feeding every 2 hours, day and night. Really fed up. I want a full night's sleep.

CuriosityCola · 29/12/2011 08:39

Snap Esk . Wouldn't mind but ds is still just snacking on me for 5 mins during the day.

How did your little ones first Christmas dinner go coaf?

Nickel, how are you doing?

OhFraktiousTree · 29/12/2011 22:37

We've had a wonderful Christmas (I have an ipad) and DS loooooved Christmas dinner. He's developed quite a taste for bacon and stuffing. Sleep has NOT improved, he's teething again and he doesn't like his travel cot much.

nickel sweetie are you there?!

CuriosityCola · 30/12/2011 08:40

Glad you had a good Christmas Frak. We had a lovely, stress free one too. Ds slept through Christmas dinner. Next year will be very different Grin

vallinnapod · 30/12/2011 15:45

Suffering with teeth here big time :( First time I have heard DS really cry, he is so smiley normally, poor bub.

Today I have mainly been walking in the rain as it is the only time he won't cry. I get him to sleep, get home and within 10 mins he is awake. I must say we have been very lucky (touch wood) that he isn't waking any more than usual at night (although this is still 3 or 4 times!)

CuriosityCola · 30/12/2011 18:23

Teething is just horrible for them Sad. Have you found any good teething rings? Ds likes my hand or a muslin best at the moment.

I am on night three of a new routine with ds. It consists of a bath at 6-6.30pm followed by a story in the bedroom and an expressed bottle of milk. Last night this was followed by calm play and more milk from me. He then slept 8-12.30 Shock. 4 1/2 hours is the longest sleep we have ever had! Grin Going for the no cry or stress approach. Needed to do something though as all our visitors over Christmas had him staying awake late and grumpy in the mornings.

vallinnapod · 30/12/2011 20:56

Glad the new routine is working CC! I read somewhere that 5 hours is considered to be sleeping through the night Hmm... Clearly by someone with no children! We have managed 5-6 hours semi consistently. Unfortunately they tend to fall between 9pm and 3am so they don't feel quite so good as they sound!!

Teething wise his faves are my fingers, my fingers wrapped in muslin and his own fists - often both at once Grin. He sort of likes Sophie the Giraffe and some Nuby teething keys but so long as we both have our extremities at his disposal he doesn't mind! Quite likes Boots teething powder but looks like his has sucked a lemon if we give him Bonjela!

CuriosityCola · 30/12/2011 22:47

So he nearly slept through the night and I had no idea?! HmmGrin Agreed that they don't have children.

Tonight he went down at 7pm and has slept for 3 1/2 hours. I think he has wind though as kept hearing him on the monitor, getting up to check him and then nothing.

Dh and I have had a weird evening. Didn't want to watch tv or a movie incase ds didn't stay sleeping. We have just kind of pottered around the house and played on our phones Blush. It was very strange having a baby free evening.

I have heard the powder in the old fashioned packaging in boots is meant to be the best. Ds isn't sure about Sophie. Sometimes she gets a good chewing and other times nothing.

FeijoaVodkaPlease · 31/12/2011 08:13

NoMoreConfessions! New year so new name. It was almost NoMoreConfessions, but decided on something totally different to help put the last crappy year behind me. Grin

Now if I could just stop falling asleep in a serious slouch position while DD all night buffets off my boob I might start to feel human again. As it is she woke me up at 5 this morning and I feel like my eyes are hanging out.

Still at least she isn't teething (for now, feel it's not far off again). Those of you experiencing teething have my full sympathy.

FeijoaVodkaPlease · 31/12/2011 08:21

We did have a lovely quiet Christmas. No tantrums from DS (a rare treat lately Sad) and DD loved her first proper meal (though she fell asleep at meal time, so had it later on). I think she liked the brussle sprouts best!

Hope everyone else's was lovely too. Xmas Grin

CuriosityCola · 31/12/2011 08:42

Love the new name Smile

I would love advice on the same please! Ds was feeding on and off from 4am-7am this morning. It is interrupting my sleep and giving me weird unsettling dreams.

vallinnapod · 31/12/2011 08:52

Sounds like a JSing baby thing as my DS is the same. Decent-ish chunks of sleep until around 3am. Then it seems to be feeding on the hour after that! He is currently in bed with us. Both he and DH are sparko and heavy breathing in a coordinated fashion Grin

CuriosityCola · 31/12/2011 09:15

Will keep focusing on the bed time 'routine' for now then. Don't want to change to many things at once. I would love to be able to fast forward and see if my parenting choices were right or naive pfb choices GrinWink.

I love it when dh and ds are both sleeping peacefully, very cute!

Do any of you have new years eve plans? Dh and I are staying home with ds. A meal, movie and hopefully will be awake to watch fireworks.

Eskarina · 31/12/2011 10:28

Yup, dd is in the pain-in-the-backside sleepers club too. She will NOT go back into her bed after a feed, and if I put her back asleep the she wakes within 30 mins. I don't want to co sleep and am starting to worry that she's going to outgrow her crib and we can't fit her cot in our room. If she's in a state then she won't fall asleep without a breast in her mouth. Yet at other times she just drops off, usually in buggy/car, though I could guarantee that if we did a walk/drive just to get her to sleep then she wouldn't!

We might manage to stay up tonight, but most likely will wish each other happy ny when dd wakes us for yet another bloody feed
