So we don't scare the viroids on the antenatal thread with horror stories of no sleep, chomped boobs and endless laundry or make them envious with tales of cuteness....

By the way. Who is childrenchildreneverywhere?

vallinnapod · 10/10/2011 11:50

Very exciting to nearly have another graduate graduate!

COAWF no idea Grin

Eskarina · 10/10/2011 12:39

Ooh exciting. Good luck Oats.

No idea who children everywhere is. Someone promoting the classes I suspect.

Am tied to my chair trying to get DD to sleep. This is getting boring!

vallinnapod · 10/10/2011 14:06

DS seems to be on a nap strike too!

vallinnapod · 10/10/2011 17:40

DS has slept for a grand total of 26 mins today....

What do you guys do with your DCs when they ate awake? I am at a bit of a loss at what to do with DS. He just stares out to the side on his play mat. He is ok in his bouncer chair but shows the toys no interest. Worried he is bored or that I am doing a shot job Sad

vallinnapod · 10/10/2011 17:48

I should probably leave teaching spelling to his Dad....

ConfessionsOfAWareFanjo · 10/10/2011 18:20

Don't worry Val. He's just getting used to the big wide world. He'll show interest in toys soon. Then he'll start putting every thing in his mouth, then he'll be mobile. That's when you'll wish he would just lie still all day Grin

vallinnapod · 10/10/2011 18:40

Grin oh, I am trying to appreciate this less mobile time as that is what I have heard! I am quite surprised how tiring I have found today. I have only been out to try and get the baby to sleep (round the block several times, to no avail!) I am going to be a mess when he is active!!

CuriosityCola · 10/10/2011 21:58

Ds has only taken interest in toys in last few days. Though he has been smiling and 'talking' since 4 weeks. Best buy has been senses activity mat...oh and captain calamari Grin

MightilyOats · 11/10/2011 06:51

Thanks for the good wishes everyone. Currently stuck in prelabour/latent labour limbo. Got as far as calling mw out yesterday as had a run of painful cx coming 5 mins apart for several hrs, then all stopped. Bugger! Cervix forward, but she could only get a fingertip in... So the wait goes on.

Hope you all managed to get some rest!

DS didn't play with anything for ages. We fed/cuddled, I slung him and we went for walks or just did stiff round the house and generally tried to amuse him. Then he started looking at the mobile/captain calamari (awesome toy) on his pram and then he would look at stuff I held or smile if I shook it, then we progressed to grabbing and eating!

We're weaning now Grin it's so much fun!

DD doesn't show much interest in toys at the moment, though she does like smiling at herself in the mirror attached to the playgym. Hates the bouncy chair, even if Freddie firefly is attached, but quite likes Freddie at other times. I bought her some foot finders & wrist rattles at the weekend so am hoping she likes those (delay whilst I wash them as from nct sale). She can also spend ages staring at black & white images, I downloaded some from a site called baby zorger, can't do a link as feeding ATM.
Have our 6 week check today and am hoping we get something stronger than infacol/gripe water to combat the wind issues. Though we are doing better since a HV told me I can use them both at a feed.

vallinnapod · 11/10/2011 09:20

Ok - link to captain calamari required!

We are nearly 6 weeks here but still can't decide whether we have had a smile or not! Maybe I just have a very deep thinking Wink

vallinnapod · 11/10/2011 09:22

Thanks for the baby zorger info!

Eskarina · 11/10/2011 13:11

Captain calamari and freddie firefly are Lamaze toys, you can find them on amazon/eBay and even in tesco. But beware val, it's very very easy to get carried away with the old credit card on them. I think Santa is going to recruit his elves from there this year for dd's stocking!

Eskarina · 11/10/2011 13:19

captain calamari

Freddie

I'm also lusting after these and most other manhattan/Lamaze toys

Had our 6week check this am. Dr reckons DD has silent reflux. I'm not convinced but will give the infant gaviscon a go.

vallinnapod · 11/10/2011 15:34

Ohhh of course! I have been coverting Sir Prancealot! DS was bought Jacques the Peacock as a gift so I now can't justify the pony....yet....Wink

Hope the infant gaviscon works. DS has his 6 week check next Tuesday. I don't get mine until 8 weeks...I am intrigued to see how much he weighs now!

Have any of the other babies out there had their BCGs? DS had his a fortnight ago and hasn't the slightest mark of it. Not that I mind, just wondered if this was normal? Was told it would blister.

Eskarina · 11/10/2011 17:29

EBay. That's all I'm saying...

I don't think we get a bcg here, first round of jabs in 2 weeks.

DD has just slept for nearly 3 hours. I had to wake her in the end, but it means she went 4.5 hours between feeds Blush and I really don't like that. She's only putting on about 4lb a week and dropping down the percentiles. I'm not worried about that per se, more that the HVs will get twitchy and start brandishing formula at me. But sleep is such a rare commodity that I didn't want to interrupt it...

vallinnapod · 11/10/2011 19:07

Like I need any encouragement...

DS has been asleep most of the arvo and must have only feed for 5 mins at a time when he has been awake but I am the same as you, not going to knock it. Just got everything ready for a bath (3rd in 6 weeks....) and come back to find him asleep!

CuriosityCola · 12/10/2011 16:16

Val, do you not attend a weekly nhs baby class? It is a good chance to meet other mums, weigh ds and ask the health visitor questions. It is really informal. I like the reassurance that ds is doing well. Very cute to see all the other babies too. Smile

vallinnapod · 12/10/2011 20:04

No, I don't. Didn't know they existed. My GP has a weekly baby clinic burgle have to make an appointment. Haven't been worried/intrigued enough to get my act together to make one.

ConfessionsOfAWereFanjo · 12/10/2011 20:11

I had ebay open in another window to look for something and then looked at your links and now have NO idea what I was going to look at on ebay! DD has to put up with DS's hand me down banana. She doesn't seem to mind though.

CuriosityCola · 13/10/2011 03:52

Depending on the area things seem to run very differently. I am attending a few little groups as I'm not good stuck in the house. Smile

Eskarina · 13/10/2011 04:57

Wow that was a nightmare 24 hours. I normally think DD cries all day anyway, but yesterday she really did. And didn't sleep in th day. AND didn't settle last night, waking up four times, twice to feed, twice to grumble. Then wouldn't go to bed til 10.30pm so DH and I didn't see each other last night as one or other of us was soothing her.
And breathe!

There are a lot of groups going on here, mostly through the childrens centre, but I think dd's too young yet. We're going too the breastfeeding support group tomorrow, and a baby massage class starting next week. I'm supposed to go to the weighing clinic each week -our HVs are very hot on it- but I probably go once a fortnight as dd's slow weight gain is starting to stress me out so the less often I'm reminded of it the better
