Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SummerRain · 13/02/2012 17:20

Oh dinky, how horrendous Sad Have they given you a date for the op yet or you on one of the mythical waiting lists?

I'm sorry I wasn't about much this week, I had to have a wisdom tooth pulled on wednesday as it was causing me serious pain (it had gotten to the point where I was taking codeine just to be able to eat) so it took all my concentration just to behave somewhat humanly for A's birthday!

Have had chaos at home too, dd threw a wooden train track in ds1's face on saturday (WHY???!!!) and knocked one of his teeth backwards and sliced his tongue.... 24 hours after he had to have his nose cauterised again, due in no small part to the fact that she walloped him in the nose so often after he had it done last month that it was damaged worse than before Angry It would be an understatement to say she's in the dog house atm....

Suffice it to say I'm struggling to do anything constructive so have had to extend the MN ban!

dinkystinkyexpectations · 13/02/2012 20:54

God SR - sounds like you have all been the wars at yours! Hope the pain has all gone for you now and Ds1 is recovering well.

Calico1 · 16/02/2012 09:40

Dinky and SR ouch!!!

Dinky that sounds bad, knees are such complicated things! But on the plus side you get a wee bit of time to sit around and watch trashy telly recover.
How weird about the road catching fire...must have looked pretty strange.

SR poor you and poor DS1. Not surprised you are struggling at the mo.

Right off to try and make a butterfly birthday cake for Lilian - DS wants to help so lord knows what it'll look like if he has a go but hey Lilian won't care as long as it is pink. She has requested a 'pink leaf' for a birthday present (bless her) so I need to find one....Hmm

MOSagain · 18/02/2012 07:13

dinky the street caught fire? Shock
poor you ref your knee, hope it is sorted soon. D's party sounded lovely. Will have to watch this tinga tanga thing one day.

SR poor DS, sounds painful, hope all better now.

Back from Dubai early yesterday am, shattered after overnight flight with no sleep. Had a nice time with DD's godmother for a few days then a few days in the hotel which the kids loved, lots of pool and beach time which was good fun.

Finally had gps appointment late yesterday pm to discuss the results of my various blood tests. Am glad I booked the appointment with the gp that my friend told me was the diabetic specialist as the first thing he told me was that I had type 2 diabetes. Am actually quite relieved now that I know what is wrong with me and can deal with it. Have been started on medication which is in the form of tablets initially and the dosage increases over the next few weeks. He gave me loads of information and have an appointment at the diabetic clinic in a few weeks. Just have to read loads of paperwork now about dos and don'ts etc. Will sob quietly into my pillow on easter sunday when the kids ares scoffing their easter eggs but hey ho, I might finally get to my weight watchers goal this year. Every cloud and all that Grin

SilveryMoon · 18/02/2012 08:26

Hi all
MOS Glad you got a diagnosis and now know what is wrong.
Absolutely nothing going on here at all.
Can't believe half term is over already and it's back to work/school/nursery on monday.

Oh, we have a new cat. My friend called me yesterday and asked me if I would take one of hers (she had 3. Plus a pregnant dog, 2 broken birds and 3 uncontrollable children)
Tilly (who's name I have changed to Tia) is doing well, Oscar (our exsisting cat) is doing better than I expected too. There has been a little growling and spitting, but nothing major.
Tia has had a little wonder last night, followed by Oscar (in a friendly way I think), she ate and now is hiding under the kitchen cupboards.
Am gonna put her litter tray in there and keep the door closed for a few days. Would prefer the bathroom, but not sure she will let me take her out from under the cupboards, so figure it's easier to give her her own time.
Oscar got straight into her little tray too, so will have to keep that away from him until I know she is using it and once her scent is in there, I'll slowly move it into the bathroom.
She is a beautiful cat.

MOSagain · 18/02/2012 10:54

SM could have been worse, you could have got the 2 broken birds, or worse still, the 3 children Wink

H wants a cat. DH and I are in negotiations. DD1 also wants a ginger cat called Horatio Hmm

Am very excited as now have a utility room. Whilst I was away DH got a carpenter in and has boarded the back of our (integral) garage and DH has been working hard this morning clearing out all the old crap (including a tumbledryer not used for several years which still had clothes in it) Blush I've really struggled with lack of storage in our kitchen since moving back and this will make a huge difference.

dinkystinkyexpectations · 20/02/2012 17:26

Hello all - MOS glad you had a lovely holiday in the end - and congrats on your new utility Grin Sorry to hear about your diagnosis but good to see you're finding the silver lining...

SM - your new cat sounds lovely and very sweet. Hope she settles in well. Danny would love a pet (he loves all animals - his favourite outing is to the local pet shop or petting zoo to see the animals) but DH is allergic to cats and we're not in enough to be able to justify having a dog. Ho hum.

Happy birthday to all those little ones whose birthdays I have missed.

MOSagain · 21/02/2012 08:30

Arse. Its DD's school PTA/Friends coffee afternoon today and I'd volunteered to make cakes. Chocolate muffins are my speciality and am making a huge batch of those and now I can't eat them Sad Might make some weight watchers banana muffins too, hopefully I can still eat those.

Its so confusing. I've spent the last 10 years checking the labels for fat content and now I need to check for sugar. Have you got any idea how much sugar is in a banana? Shock

dinkystinkyexpectations · 21/02/2012 09:32

Have you had a look on line for diabetic friendly cakes/recipes MoS? Bananas are indeed sugartastic - as are grapes and dates.

oooggs · 21/02/2012 13:30

At least you know MOS and can now eat accordingly!!

Parents evening this week, wonder what that will bring Hmm

Really tired as ds3 up at 2.45 am coughing, he is fine but I am shattered

dinkystinkyexpectations · 21/02/2012 14:31

Good luck for parents evening Oooggs - hope ds3's lurgy passes soon!

Calico1 · 21/02/2012 19:52

MOS so sorry to hear about your diagnosis but hope you can quickly work out what yummy things you can still eat.

SM Lilian is desperate for a kitten (our cat is a rather boring old mog) and has been asking if she can have a pink one (the child is utterly obsessed with the colour pink). I jokingly told her that if we find a pink kitten she can have it (cruel mummy) so she has been looking everywhere!

Our house is a bit of a nightmare - DH decided a few weeks ago that we needed a new kitchen, but rather than get kitchen fitters in he decided to do it himself. I now have no sink, no washing machine, a gas hob with no gas, and an old gas cooker, an electric oven and two half built kitchen cabinets in the lounge. Hmm

We live in an ancient cottage so none of the walls or floors are anywhere near straight and guess what - nothing fits without a huge amount carpentry involved. He is now pissed off with the whole thing and is suddenly really busy with work so I have no idea when it is going to be sorted out. This is not a good week for Lilian to decide she doesn't want nappies anymore....

dinkystinkyexpectations · 22/02/2012 11:36

Sending you gin and the patience of a saint to get through this trying time Calico Grin

Calico1 · 22/02/2012 13:28

Thanks Dinky - can you lob over another (bottle of) gin as things are getting worse. DS sick today so I was hand-washing sickie sheets and duvet cover in the shower at 5am this morning....
Plumber arrived this morning and said that he couldn't connect up the new gas hob as the wall cabinets had been put too close, and the couldn't connect up the new sink / washing machine as the waste outlet was in the wrong place Hmm
Kitchen is going to have to be taken apart again to fix this. I am not pleased.
I'm going to hit (D)H over the head with the bottle of gin.

dinkystinkyexpectations · 22/02/2012 14:34

Sending a methuselah of gin in your direction.

Poor you - hope DS gets better soon (I've had made your DH do it - definitely get him to do any more loads - as the lack of washing machine is pretty much his doing!)

SummerRain · 22/02/2012 15:58

You know..... sometimes i'm glad dp is about as handy as DIY headed as a drunk frog, at least he never starts 'projects'.

Sending you {hugs} and Brew calico...... I admire your patience, I'd have killed him by now and buried his body under the kitchen, then got professionals in to do the job properly Grin

MOS.... as a fellow sugar junkie you have my utmost sympathy.... I'd give up everything, even fags or sex, before sugar! Hope you find some tasty recipes. AFAIK that splenda fake sugar is alright for diabetics... I wonder how good it is for baking?

oooggs · 23/02/2012 19:22

Total sympathy calico!!

Mos hope you manage to get your 'fix' somewhere

Parents evening went surprisingly well!! Especially for ds1

And to top it all the 3 eldest all went up a stage at swimming last night as well

Off for a celebratory meal tomorrow evening, of course to reward the children and not as an excuse because I don't want to cook Wink

Calico1 · 28/02/2012 09:26

Ooogs - glad your parent's evening went well. I have DS's one next week and I'm thinking that it may not be great...

DS has just informed me that he has to dress as a character in a book for World Book Day on Thurs. He wants to dress up as a dinosaur - I have pointed out that I can't make a dinosaur costume at short notice a dinosaur isn't really a book character but I am a bit stuck as to what to do. Any one else had to do this?

dinkystinkyexpectations · 28/02/2012 21:17

Hello all - rathe crippled dinky here as had knee op yesterday. Hope kitchen fiasco is over Calico and all are well. At ds1's school world book day sees kids going as whatever they feel like - lots of Ben 10, spiderman etc. you could do green tshirt with green spiky tail sewn to it and a green baseball cap with spikes on I guess as from memory you're pretty nifty with the needle - or do like me and recycle Halloween outfits. Ds1 is going as Dracula this year!

SummerRain · 28/02/2012 22:20

[hugs] and Brew dinky... hope it's on the mend soon. Will you need physio?

calico.... mine have been told to bring in a book they've already read to swap..... all well and good but 90% of their books were mine as a child and there's no way I'm letting them swap 25 year old books which have been kept in perfect condition all that time and can't be bought any more for ratty copies of horrid henry and Jacqueline Wilson novels! DD has a double copy of Fantastic Mr Fox (thank you cheerios Wink) but she hasn't actually read it yet so not sure if she can bring it in and poor ds only has a few proper books that are his (he's 5 so just at that in betweeny bit between easy to read picture books and proper books) and he loves re reading them.

Right now I'd much refer the dressing up they did other years!

Calico1 · 29/02/2012 11:31

Dinky how's the knee today? Hope you don't have to move off the sofa. Sending virtual chocolate biccies over to you to go with SR's cuppa.

SR that does sound a more sensible idea than dressing up but probably not so much fun. DS and I have decided on a 'stick man' costume. Brown trousers and T-shirt with some leaves stuck on the cuffs. Of course I couldn't find a brown t-shirt so have had to get the dylon out this morning. No doubt as soon as I have finished it he will refuse to wear it as everyone else will be dressed as Spiderman!
All of DS's school have gone to London today to visit the National Gallery. A bit ambitious of the head teacher I think, as I'm not sure the reception and year one kids will really get that much out of it but it was so sweet waving them all off on the coach this morning.

Kitchen is still a mess but at least I now have a working washing machine. I plumbed it in myself yesterday after waiting for over a week for DH to do it. I don't have the muscles to move it into it's proper place so it has become a 'feature breakfast bar' in the middle of the kitchen Grin

dinkystinkyexpectations · 29/02/2012 13:33

Thanks for the tea and virtual chocs. SR - DS1's school did a book swap one year - however only half the kids brought books in and there was an urgent appeal for extra books. Book swaps only work where everyone participates - and pretty hard to manage that in a school of 700 kids - I hated to imagine the disappointed kids faces who didnt get a swap. I think its back to dressing up this year.

Calico - well done for doing the plumbing and interior kitchen design Wink yourself. Hope DS enjoys his school trip - they'll probably love Trafalgar Square more than the national gallery at that age (though national gallery has a good education programme and does some really good kids activities) but still a lovely idea and adventure.

Now sofa bound for a couple of weeks then start physio - consultant only managed to half fix my knee as have totally shattered cartilage on one side and he couldnt fix that, but all in all not feeling too bad right now.

dinkystinkyexpectations · 29/02/2012 13:33

P.s. Stickman is a genius costume!

SummerRain · 29/02/2012 14:54

dinky, ds has announced his two best friends won't be bringing in books (which I suspect may be as they come from the sort of households that don't really have any books Sad) but I can only imagine that they won't be allowed to get books, it would be really unfair otherwise. The kids certainly haven't mentioned being partnered up so I'm guessing all the kids with books get to swap and the others just don't get to participate.

If they don't come home with books after me sending in really nice ones I'll be raging!

dinky, sorry to hear the consultant wasn't able to fully repair it. Enjoy your couch holiday until the physio starts Smile

Calico1 · 01/03/2012 20:59

Stickman costume looked great in the end, DS loved helping me make some leaves for it. Most people made an effort with home-made costumes though there where still loads of Disney princesses....
