wandering lol re finger shaped toy. I knew when I was typing it it sounded silly, I am just thinking of a rattle I have from sainsburys I think that is kind of like a karabina shape roughly, and grasping that would be something to...well...grasp I suppose, in place of a finger. Or a dismembered Halloween toy finger in a matchbox, whatever floats you I s'pose!!!

Grin Delia

Oh crap Jane! Can't you fake illness? Glad you had a good day babysitting!

suzym1984 · 16/06/2011 16:44

debka that sounds awful! I would deffo complain! I am in bits when H gets injections so that must have horrible, you are braver than me!

wandering lol at the "dummy run", I usually have to do that 5.30am, not too bothered as it gives me an extra 1.5 hours kip!

Was it you wandering that uses a lightshow? I got mine delivered today, and it has voice activation so it comes on at night if H cries. What do you think? Sounds good but not sure about introducing something new at bedtime IYKWIM? Not that bedtime is a roaring success at the minute tho....

Well, first unswaddled nap was a big success, H fell asleep holding his teddy's hand which was so cute! 2nd nap was a disaster, he cried and fussed for 1 hour until I got him out and swaddled him then he fell asleep for 2 hours!

Does anyone have a video monitor? We have the breathing sensor one, but I am getting sick of creeping upstairs to peep in on H so am considering getting a video one to use too, does that seem frivolous (sp) ?

suzym1984 · 16/06/2011 16:44

Forgot to say, got everything crossed for you Jane

Emski76 · 16/06/2011 17:37

Just caught up quickly.
Suzy, video monitor is the best thing we ever bought. Dh got one of eBay when Ben was 6 months old and we used it with him until he was at least 2.6 years old! We use it with Noah now and when he cries in the night I can look and see if he is flailing around looking lost or just settling himself. Also great for checking safety. Must say tho that I've had to train myself not to check it constantly in the night!
Deb, sounds rubbish about S blood sample, what a way to treat a baby!
Jane, you know what I'm hoping for you.......
Delia, fab idea about finger shaped toy etc.
Hope everyone else is ok
When is Ledkr back from France?

ILovePonyo · 16/06/2011 17:42

jane the baby you're looking after sounds adorable all snuggly, bet you've had a lovely day. Hope fil doesn't ruin it Hmm :) Now no pressure for sunday or anything but do let us know either way Wink, and no worries if theres no postive this month though I know how frustrating it can be. Sorry don't want to sound all negative Blush

american I agree with earlier bedtime, we aim for 7.30 but sometimes earlier. Why on earth wouldn't you want advice from your MIL Shock Wink Delete delete the emails I say. Good luck tonight too.

delia of course we will have perfect children I would say much sooner than 6 years old too Grin

wandering I am hoping for less dummy runs tonight but doubt it. Shock at coffee when you were small! Here in Nottingham giving small children a 'bottle of tea' (yes really) seems to be the thing to do - anyone else heard of this?!

suzy we have a video monitor - bought it with a cheque sent from grandparents when dd first born. Worth it in my humble opinion, its very nice being able to spy on her Grin Shame about the second swaddling but it'll take a while I reckon?

Tell me more about these fancy lightshow toys??! Or links to them?

dd vrying so going to go but if I don't come back on later reastie good luck for tonight and deb YES you should definitely complain - rubbish treatment poor you and S.

reastie · 16/06/2011 17:43

hi all,

been decorating all afternoon can't wait till all finished and carpet in next week.

jane please let me know if/when af arrives so I can uncross my legs, fingers, toes and arms Wink

suzy I'd love a video montitor but alas we were given a boring bog standard normal monitor from mil. we have 2 light show machines (mil gave them both to us - one is a half broken one from a charity shop Hmm ) and the half broken one does the turn on when she cries. Took me about 2 months to work out why it kept going off suddenly Blush

Grin to a deformed mutated blood coated finger toy to help alice go to sleep Confused

deb instead of making an officialy complaint (which i assume takes lots of time etc) could you just tell the eat organiser people what happens and say it's making you consider withdrawing from the scheme - and that if it happens again you will. maybe that will make them nicer, but it shouldn't have happened, and i hope it doesn't happen to anyone else. actually, thinking about it, maybe you should complain Hmm

wandering - yup, tried light show at night, didn't work!

suzym1984 · 16/06/2011 17:50

ponyo lightshow

Do you use the lightshow reastie? I have attached it to the cot ready for tonight, not sure how keen H will be. We usually play womb sounds on the Ipod but not sure if he is too old for that to soothe him now?

emski never thought to have a look on ebay, thanks for the tip, might pick up a bargain!

reastie · 16/06/2011 17:58

that's the one we have suzy Grin . we use it quite often, it doesn't realy send alice to sleep but it does shut her up Hmm Grin . i, on the other hand, am slowly going mad from listening to the winnie the pooh song over and over and over and over......

suzym1984 · 16/06/2011 18:09

haha reastie Day 1 of lightshow here and I am already sick of the tune Sad

Deliaskis · 16/06/2011 18:27

suzy we have a video monitor and it's really great, wouldn't be without it. Before I had C I thought they were for super neurotic parents, but I think it actually makes me less so, as I can just glance at it when I want to, instead of listening at doors and creeping upstairs etc.

My sister has one for her DD who has just turned 3, and they still use it now, quite useful even with older toddlers to see when they are actually going to sleep or when they are for example doing roly-polys in bed, or trying to feed and then violently wind their dolly.

With C I like that I can see when she has woken up, but also when I don't need to go to her, e.g. today she woke up and just played and chatted to herself for 10 minutes at lunchtime.

reastie I really think I was misunderstood on the finger shaped toy thing LOL.

D

tadjennyp · 16/06/2011 18:51

Sorry about your bad night's sleep Reastie. I'm awful without a decent night. Hope your routine is going better tonight. The same for you American. Are your Ils in America too? My Mum is also talking about weaning!

Also sorry about your blood experience debka, that's dreadful. Poor wee mite.

Glad you had a good babysitting experience Jane. Thinking of you this weekend.

Glad naps are going well, swaddled or unswaddled.

Byron Shock at riots - well done you for keeping so calm. Meant to ask, do you shorten K's name at all?

Wandering I can't see your photos. Can you add me to your MN mates please? Blush [feels like a shy schoolgirl all over again emoticon]

Parents are arriving tomorrow - so excited! Hope you all have great evenings. J

WanderingSheep · 16/06/2011 19:37

Sorry TadJenny Blush I don't know why you weren't already on there Confused You should be able to see them now!

debka · 16/06/2011 19:44

Thanks for all the sympathy! I actually posted in AIBU about complaining and people were v kind but lots said that is par for the course, and they need to be restrained. I think it's a shame that they can't have people as good as the woman at Guys in every hospital. Don't think I will complain, but if she has to have any more blood taken I will seriously consider taking her back to Guys for it.

reastie beat this for gourmet brownie points- potato waffles, beans and fried eggs for tea Grin

I've not had a monitor for either of mine, always lived in houses small enough to hear any crying. Would quite like a video one just so I can see what Imy gets up to in there, but TBH so long as she is quiet and happy I don't really care!

DH being a proper full on twunt again today, just glued to his computer and only words were to tell Imogen off, whilst I span round cooking our extremely fiddly dinner Grin, trying to control a 2yo, feeding S and tidying the house. HOWEVER he did a cute thing last night- at 3am I was woken by him groping about, then demanding I switch on the light which I did- turns out he was dreaming that S was in the bed with us and being smothered, and he was rescuing her! TBH I wasn't that impressed at 3am though!

WanderingSheep · 16/06/2011 19:44

Suzy, I meant to say - I do use the light show at night to get DD asleep but once she's asleep I turn it off completely otherwise it starts up again if they move or you go in to check on them Confused The music does get annoying after a while!

OP posts:
WanderingSheep · 16/06/2011 19:55

Potato waffles, fried egg and beans, Debka? Yum! i love potato waffles Grin Sorry about your DH!

L is already asleep! I think it's the earliest that she's ever gone to bed. She usually has a bottle about 5pm and then plays until I get her ready for bed, then she cat naps until I give her her last bottle around half 8 - 9ish and then I usually take her to bed.

Well tonight she decided that she was hungry earlier but fell asleep so I've taken her up early! Let's hope she stays there [fingers crossed]

Hope we all get a good night with all the babies tonight!

OP posts:
WanderingSheep · 16/06/2011 20:00

We have a video monitor - we bought it for DD1 but ended up using a bog standard one for some reason Hmm We started using it for L but stopped as she's so bloody loud that we can hear her anyway, plus we don't really have anywhere in her room to set it up

It was on the top of a toy box but it's not really practical with the wires

Our house is pretty small too and there's the fact that she shares a room with DD1 who can alert us if there's anything wrong

OP posts:
ILovePonyo · 16/06/2011 20:35

reastie I was doing my usual routine of hanging about in the bathroom, cleaning my face and listening out for any noise from dd and was thinking about you and A, now this is a long shot but have you tried hoovering or having a hairdryer on when she is getting upset?! I do it with dd still, it does calm her down, its like she tried to cry but can't Confused Feel free to ignore though :)

tadj bet you can't wait to see your parents, happy for you :) How long are they staying for?

deb your dinner sounds well nice! Hmm at your dh, hope its just a one off for tonight.

That lightshow looks nice, mil gave me a second hand one that was dirty Hmm but gave it a clean and its ok, its meant to project onto the ceiling but doesn't reach that far so its a bit of a waste of time.

wandering the earlier bedtime sounds good, have my fingers crossed for you, me and everyone else for a sleepy night.

Where is 40weeks?! I want to talk to her about this cocaine for babies teething powder Grin

debka · 16/06/2011 20:37

I used the baby cocaine on DD1 and don't think it made a blind bit of difference. Calpol is the only was to go IMO.

ILovePonyo · 16/06/2011 20:43

Ooh it seemed to calm her down and make her sleep earlier. Calpol always a winner though :)

Just had a read of your AIBU thread and people are talking sense arent they, def insist on going to Guys next time then. Hope you and S are recovered :)

reastie · 16/06/2011 21:14

deb I am Grin as i gave dh beans, waffles and veggie hot dogs for dinner (don't tell the students at school!)- so close to your tea Wink - we must be on the same wavelength (dude Grin ). i keep meaning to ask you how your dh is doing after your convo - not so good then Confused

ponyo I am here with a very over tired baby and might give the hair dryer a go but will wait until she starts really crying as i'm a little scared - she seems to have some kind of odd public loo hand dryer machine phobia and screams whenever one goes off so i'm worried the hair dryer may have the same effect. might have slight breakthrough - instead of putting her in cot i've put her in moses basket in my room and she's still awake but not screaming like when she's in her cot, but i have to keep rocking her,......all the time! I'm starving but can't leave her as dh is alseep! she looks so tired bless her. dh and i were joking we'll have to buy a kingsize moses basket for her if this works as she's too big for it really

WanderingSheep · 16/06/2011 22:12

I used the Nelson's Teetha powder on DD1, it seemed to work although TBH she had no troubles when teething, her teeth just seemed to appear suddenly and I'd only notice them once they were through Confused The only ones that she got a bit upset with one day were the top premolars (they came through in sort of blood blisters Sad )

I'm hoping that L wn't have much trouble either!

Reastie hope Alice sleeps soon! Sorry to not be much help Sad

OP posts:
WanderingSheep · 16/06/2011 22:14

Meant to add that apparently Ashtons and Parsons is cheaper than Nelsons though

Hope all the babies sleep tonight!

janedoe25 · 17/06/2011 08:16

hi girls, Just checking in to wish you all a fab weekend. Im just about to leave for Stoke for the SANDS memorial service. Hope the babies have been sleeping well. Smile

WanderingSheep · 17/06/2011 08:58

Have a good weekend Jane. Hope the memorial service goes ok Smile

Both DDs woke up at 7 this morning Grin Grin. That means that L went from 7.30 until 7!!!! Yippedeedoodah!!! I did have to do the "dummy run" twice but it was at times when I needed the loo anyway. Long may it continue.

a year ago tomorrow was when we found out that she was on her way! Smile

It's quite quiet around these parts without Ledkr and wiggles Hmm
