Hello smiling .

Very cold here but was sunny. We went to DH's graduayion this afternoon - he was getting a PG Dip (I think) in Law (basically converted his Music degree into a law one). Not sure if he will gpo any further with it or not bit I am very proud of him for sticking at it .

DS, Alice and I watched on CCTV from a marquee outside St Albans Abbey. She slept, DS read the ELC catalogue and we then went for a walk. Alice then woke up and so we went back into the tent for milk.

DH is out having a meal with pther law people so I am on my own (apart from a pair of children )

Alice doesn't go to bed before us yet; she sometimes sleeps in the evening but downstairs. Last night she fed about 9pm, 4am and 8am I think.

Alice was very irritable yesterday, two days after jabs. She is also back to her old ways of poo (3 large ones today

hi all

can anyone tell me if its normal that dylan is teething already, im sure i can feel 2 bottom teeth cutting through. dd didnt get her fist teeth until 5 months, ds is 9 weeks!

Report
Cabe · 19/11/2005 14:33

about the teeth Diane - there's nothing 'abnormal' about a babe of Dylan's age cutting his first teeth.... it's just that it's much more usual for them to teethe at 5-6 months!!!

Has been known for baby's to be born with teeth emerging add that to the discomfort of milk coming in

j&amum - thanks for the kind thoughts. It is tough sometimes with dh at work for most of the day & evenings. I indulge in magazines & newspapers - love crosswords & suduku!!
cabe - shopping meant dds are back at school. Normally find shopping time wasting - but this time got a new coat - just before the freezing weather.
Hope all kids stay wellxxx

Morning

Wedding was good. Rachel was a very good girl for nanny - except she wee'd on the carpet. Mil likes her to spend time with nappy off to kick free - disadvantage of this - wee on carpet!!!!???

Hi to everyone - thanks for making me feel so welcome! Luca is feeling much better now - thank god! Nappies are getting back to normal and his sleep is getting back to normal too - although the past couple of nights he's woken up for his 3/4am feed and after he's had it wants to have a conversation and a kick around! Very frustrating as obv all we want to do is go straight back to sleep!!! Mummyhill, Luca is on Aptamil - taking 6oz's at each feed except the 4am one where we only give him 3oz (fingers crossed that we'll be able to wean him off this at some point soon!!). Might try your tip though for the 10pm feed - just give him a bigger bottle and see if he'll take it. DO any of you feel like you're losing your marbles at the moment? Two months of sleep deprivation is making me crazy! I was shopping the other day for a new pair of jeans that I can actually do the buttons up on, when I came out of the shop and carried on walking through the shopping centre, only to realise half way down the other end that I'd left my handbag in the shop changing room !! Had to run back, pushing the buggy and luckily someone handed it in. But then, only half an hour later, I left my scarf in the changing room of another shop!!! The old saying 'I've left my baby on the bus' seems to be getting a bit too near for comfort!

Hello smiling nice to meet you

Yes - I drove away from the house earlier leaving the front door open! - with all the effort of getting 2 kids into car and speaking to neighbour - lucky I looked as I drove off!!! Explain that one to the insurance assessor!

Mornig all! And what a gloriously foggy one it is!!
Jess - It usually takes me at least 3 goes to leave the house what with things I've forgotten/doors I've forgotten to lock/children I've left behind (only kidding on the last one! Neighbours must think I'm loopy as I'm normally half way down the road when I remember that I've forgotten something and have to turn around and drive/walk all the way back! Thought I had a conversation with DH yeaterday morning and he swears blind that I didn't so it's either him or me that's losing it!
PC - Congrats to DH on graduation and I'm sure you deserve a pat on the back for helping to get him there too!
Cabe - how did Noop's birthday go?
Hope all well and had lovely weekends. We survived the PILs but now have Christmas to look forward to...they've booked themselves in for boxing day but omitted to say when they'll be leaving. At least we won't have to suffer them on Christmas day again.

hello everyone and welcome jessinwa and smiling

Sorry i haven't been around in the last week, dp has been using my laptop for his work and i've finally prised his grubby fingers off it for a hour (it's taken 55 mins to catch up on all the gossip)
Mia was 11 weeks old and was supposed to have her 6-8 week check last week but the dr was ill so it was cancelled AGAIN. WTF!!!! so now, her jabs have been cancelled too, and they have no idea when they'll be able to fit her check up in.
DIANE, mia is also teething, going through a bib in half a hour because of all the dribble.
she was sleeping through for the last 3 weeks or so, but for the last 4 days, she has been going to sleep at around 12 and waking at 4 for a feed, so i gave her a 1/4 of rusk yesterday and she slept a lot better. I know, i know, i'll get slated now for feeding her, but i really couldn't put up with her constant crying for food. my hv advised me 4 weeks ago that the weaning age is 20 weeks, and then last week she said it had changed again to 17 weeks. i don't think most of them know their ass from their elbows!!!
CABE, happy belated birthday to your dd NOOP, what is her rl name? sorry you have said before but i can't remember now.

Hello Bubbles - missed you!
Blimey Mia's 11 weeks old - and no 6/8 week check - I had trouble booking mine - had it last week at nearly 9 weeks. On the weaning topic - Mum told me yesterday db and I were weaned from 6 weeks! Can't believe we have to hold out till 20 weeks+ plus now - weaned ds from 14 weeks.

Report
teenmumkent · 21/11/2005 14:12

bubbles - my hv has said 14-16weeks and NO later because b/milk can do them too much harm if you carry on exclusively after that...WTF. definately agree that most dont know their ass from their elbow!
on the other hand my friend, who i met at antenatal (also with daughter Mia born on 4th Sept!!-freaky) gave her daughter baby rice at 9weeks and got slated for that...just do it when you need to!

TMK, your HV sounds a little misguided .

DS just had breast milk until 20 weeks and seems OK (if a little mad sometimes )

Report
pooka · 21/11/2005 15:14

My HV says 26 weeks and no earlier. DD was weaned prior to the WHO revised guidelines being adopted by HVs at 16 weeks. Think will wait and see - be led by ds and whether he shows any of the signs that he's ready for food.

Report
pooka · 21/11/2005 15:19

TMK- haven'ta CLUE what planet your HV is on. AFAIK the WHO actually recommend b/feeding til 2years. After 6 months you should start offering foo d with ironas well as vitamin drops but until 6 months the theory is that your milk will offer all that is nutritionally needed. On the other hand, I see eating not only in terms of nutrition but also in terms of developing tongue skills and encouraging a wide range of tastes. So I willprobably start introducing food not as a substitute for but in addition to milk a bit earlier than 6 months.

thank you redhelen, i've been having widthdrawals for the last week. tmk, thats so freaky, another mia born exactly the same day, although your friends mia will be older, she couldn't of been born any earlier than 23:59 lol
I really was expecting much worse than the comments i've received. i was so textbook with leonie, until she was about 3 months, but now i'm so much more chilled out and just think to myself that no one knows my baby as well as i do and if i think she's ready then she is, as i wouldn't do anything to put her in any harm.
rh, i can't believe her check up either, wtf is the point of saying it's a 6-8 week check when they can't even fit us in at 11 weeks????? Leonie was 2 1/2 when she had her 18 month check, so we're not doing too bad , the hv was wandering why she was so clever LMAO

Hi all.

I weaned DD at 13 weeks and will wean david as soon as he shows signs of wanting food regardles of current guidelines. My mum said it was 12 weeks or 12lb which ever was reached first when I was a baby.

I am confused David seems to be teething at 8 weeks, he has started dribling a bit and crying in pain when I put my finger in his mouth his top gum is rock solid and I can feel the teeth under the gum. I was sure that they don't normally start this till about 12 weeks though.

CABE did you get my email? If not mail me on windyjo1athotmaildotcom.

hi mummyhill, good for you, i think a lot of people get caught up in what the textbooks say. i have 2 hv(1 student) and neither of them have children. i think it's easier said than done leaving a hungry baby crying constantly until 4-6 months. Each to their own i guess

My theory is if a child is hungry feed it, if milk does not satisfy your baby give it rice. I don't think that when you wean has anything to do with their future health, I firmly believe that it is what you wean them on and feed them with afterwards which affects their health in later life.

Report
teenmumkent · 21/11/2005 22:49

mummyhill - Noah's first tooth finally came through last week and he was only 6weeks. they say it's normal for some babies to be born with them and just as normal to be 10months without any.

I was under the impression that weaning too early can affect their stomachs as they cant handle it. However if a baby needs it, i'm sure he can stomach it!

Bubbles she was born at 11:58am! I thought she might have been you for a while but then not!

Hi All

Very busy weekend ferrying the Noop around - Bubbles, her name's Nandy Lola (an anagram of my sisters name for those who like wordy puzzles!)

She says THANKYOU to everyone's birthday wishes, she had a great time, but as usual certain factions amongst her friend groups can't cope with the attention being off them for a millisecond and caused a splinter group to be formed on Nandys birthday night - Pizza and skating expedition... minus any adults

Honestly who'd want to have to go through all that again - sorry TMK gripe coming - bloody teenagers!!!

Fortunately Noop's very level headed and didn't let it spoil her night. Think I'm more upset by the disloyal behaviour... I've fed and entertained the little b'stards

We go to see Harry Potter tomorrow with her (my sisters treat) so for the first time Conrad will be looked after by someone other than me, dp or my sister... She's a lovely childminder who looks after my sisters little boy and I know her too, but I seem to be very clingy about Conrad.

He's not been too well over the weekend, weeping when he's not feeding. Oh and it's heart wrenching stuff... real sobbing and tears, I think it might be a sore throat and headache but he doesn't have a temperature. I've still got this Mumps thing at the back of my mind but he doesn't seem to have any typical symptoms.

It hasn't disrupted his good sleep record at night though, he doesn't sleep hardly at all in the day but still sleeps all through the night

Weeeeeeaning allllreaeaeaeady???? Where's the time gone? Didn't think we'd be talking about weaning yet

I'm with Pooka and the current WHO recommendations but I know my mum weaned us very early... by adding baby-rice to our bottles!! - we were probably a great deal younger than Mia as mum always maintained that her (plump, nay fat, happy) babies were desperately hungry on just bottle feed... This probably meant we cried (just normal crying!)

RH - so pleased your db's wedding went well and Rachel was good for your MIL - did you have any reservations about leaving her? am I just weird about Conrad? Hope this is the last worry you have with that nuisance of a scar Have a lovely time in Spain, how long are you going for?

MummyHill - I'll mail you, no mail seems to be getting through at the moment, I've told the uni IT services about it though, so perhaps the problem's going to be sorted soon

Milward - Great that your wee ones are better x

Sorry if I've neglected anyone... Here's to a good week
