Hello

I'm pleased with my hair - rather short and the red is subtle!

Rachel had her first jabs today - she was very upset

My brothers wedding tomorrow!! so much go and shave, file nails, fake tan and every thing - to try to look slightly glam!

PC - glad the poo has happened !! nothing worse than the wait - had to dig Rachel out of one earlier too!!

Hi all,

I have been meaning to tell you all that you have great taste in names. I think most of your babies' names were on our list at one point.

We had our first night without dh last night and it was fine. I don't know what I expected, but Max slept from 7:45 to 2:30 and then after a quick change and a feed went back down until 7. He's a good boy. The weather is usually gloomy and very wet this time of year here but the weather is supposed to be clear through dh's return. I'm so glad. Need sunshine!

RH - I'm very envious of your new hairdo. I am one of those boring, never colored, never cut short gals. It must feel great to do something for yourself. Does Rachel seems to like it?

TMK - My grandma and dh's mom are both German and they have both told me to drink a wheat beer while I feed Max to help with milk production. Must be a German thing. The doctors here advise against drinking alcohol while bf, but I have heard many different opinions on the subject. Have a look at the la leche league website. When I drink I usually have two maximum and never the hard stuff. Then I wait a while before bf. Hope this helps.

Max is waking now. Better run.

hello all - tiredout but ok. My dh was at work for 14hrs today. Got the kids round the small supermarket after school! Got them all fed, bathed & into bed - ds will be in bed soon when I go. Happy to have been shopping today. Normally I don't like clothes shopping as just takes so long. I'd prefer a coffee & to read the paper. Most of my clothes are too small!! so was obliged to get some new things! Will get a proper wardrobe of clothes sorted....when I have time

Hi Everyone

Your hair sounds lovely RH, you'll feel so confident with a new look to reveal at your bro's wedding - have a lovely day - awwww I love a nice wedding.

TMK - I have a glass of wine now I'm not Pg... I'd not hit the hard stuff though, best to leave the JD for now

Beatie - how are your hands? I can never be bothered to put rubber gloves on to rinse off the nappy soak - regretting it now, my poor hands are so dry and cracked - I've just looked down and they're actually bleeding

Jess - you must think we're stereotypically obsessed with the weather how nice that it's not as wet there as it normally is, enjoy the sunshine x
Well done for getting through last night so well without dh.

well, I've got a busy weekend coming up, it's DDs 14th birthday. The shocking thing is how quickly those 14 years have gone. I was getting some photo's of Noop as a baby out to compare her then to Conrad now. It all came flooding back like it was only yesterday...

Milward - I hope your shopping trip means everyone in Chez Milward have recovered now

Mummyhill - it'd be lovely to meet up - I think you'd be able to CAT me to arrange something x

Have a good night xx

Hi everyone,

Just trying to decide what to do with my day - all i want to do is go to bed as jess has been up since 4.30am and fell asleep just as i was about to take dd1 to school she woke up as soon as i walked back in the house and had such a big poo i had to bath her so she is now clean and fed and chilling on her mat i need to stay awake so that i can keep to her routine so she sleeps tonight, am thinking about going to town to get some material for a going out outfit for my birthday (i always make my own clubbing outfits) yes i am mad going clubbing when jess will only be 11 weeks old but the last time i went out was my last birthday also must do xmas shopping!!

RH you talking of dying your hair made me think i should do mine cant really afford it but i need a treat im thinking of spending any birthday and xmas money on joining the gym anyone else think its silly that you have to join a gym for a year! i only need it for a few months and thats all i can afford! i cant stand being overweight anymore i hate looking in the mirror at the minute.

Hope you're all doing ok today

oh yeah with you on the brain like mush thing too!

Cabe - Have tried to CAT you hope the message gets through the system ok.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NOOP.

Jess - Have you tried kamillosan? It's an ointment with chamomille to promote healing and also contains beeswax which is great as a barrier to protect the damaged skin. It has worked wonders for David.

Good afternoon girls and cuddles to the bairns

Thanks for the Birthday wishes for the Noop, she'll be delighted to get a mention - she thinks our site's excellent - she also thinks it's amazing that I've found a chat forum I like, I've always been so critical of 'chat rooms'

Mummyhill I'll check that e-mail then x

Jaam - Thankyou, I'm ridiculously chuffed by your comment

Another lovely day... must get out to enjoy it - best wishes to those feeling down... those darned hormones come just at a time when all the extra demands of a new baby would get on top of anyone

catch you later x

Hi all, sorry I haven't had a chance to read all the posts as I only have a short 'window' inbetween cleaning, sterilising etc etc! I'm new to this thread - DS is 8 weeks old now - on a brief look through, there seem to be a lot of regulars on here - I'm hoping that I'll become one too! I managed to read the first few posts and noticed that a lot of the babies are sleeping through from 7 - 4 am! How are you doing it?! DS will go down after a feed at around 6.30, then will have another at around 10.30 and then wakes up again around 3-4 am for another, much smaller feed. He had his first jabs this week, and boy, did he get grumpy! He didn't sleep and is only just, three days on, starting to get back to his old smiley self - thank god! Not quite sure what else to put - am a bit new to this type of thread - I've only really posted for advice before.

Hi there Smiling. My ds is pretty similar sleepwise- goes from 8ish til maybe 11pm. Then wakes at 3 usually. Last night though, goodnessknows why apart from the fact he had a wakeful grumpy day, he slept from8pmtil 4 am!
Unfortunately dd has turned into a complete horror when it comes to sleeping. So she woke at 1am and 4 am. Feelso sorry for her - partly it's the terrible twos and partly I suspect she's feeling rather insecure. Has been less stroppy today as a made an immense effort to be thebright and breezy non-shouty mother all morning and she really seems to respond to positive attitude.
TOm was also rather grumpy about 2 days after his jabs. Quite common, I understand. He's 10 weeks old today!
I still haven't attempted supper bath and bed for the two of them. Feel as if I should try, because am supposed to be going out next week and would kind of like to go out having fed Tom,but with him not necessarily being asleep and would feel bad getting dh to cope on his own if I can't IYSWIM. We shall see.....

Hi Pooka. Wow - slept from 8-4am? Is he bottle or BF? Mine is bottle fed - I never know if I should wake him for his 10pm feed once he's gone down at 7pm but the thought of him waking up half way through the night scares me into waking him up and feeding him at 10pm - if that makes sense! Do you wake up your DS for his later feed or let him sleep and then feed him only if he wakes up for one? I went to my first post natal group yesterday and felt a bit like a slum-mum when I saw that my DS was the only child not in a proper 'outfit'. He was only in a babygrow!

Report
beatie · 18/11/2005 13:58

Hi and welcome smiling about the babygrow. I would have done the same and felt the same Most days I get Alice into an outfit for warmth but it doesn't always happen the morning side of lunch.

SMK - I have only just started to soak nappies. With dd1s we put them into a dry bucket and then washed them on 100 degrees. Trying to be more eco-friendly so now washing on 60 degrees and soaking dirty nappies in water with tea tree oil. Have yet to assess if they're getting clean enough or whether I need to add stain stuff to the bucket. What are you using? \Napisan? What type of nappies?

I'm with you on the babygrows. Have decided that there is no point in outfits and anyway - he's so comfy and snug in vest babygrow and cardy. Looks like a proper baby!
I;m breastfeeding pretty much on demand. Unlike with dd I haven't really attempted any kind of routine apart from that he has a bath in his tummy tub while dd has a bath upstairs with either me or dh. If dh is doing the bath (at 7.30pm ish), I feed him before I take dd upstairs. If I'm doing the bath (which I was last night) I feed him at 7.45pm ish after he's in his nightie. Then he sleeps in his pram downstairs until he's transferred upstairs at 10pm ish. If he wakes then, I'll feed him. If not I'll leave him. Last night he stirred a little at 10pm but I was having a bath so just needed to be swaddled by dh. And didn't stir again till 4am.
I think next week we're going to start putting him upstairs after his last feed. Maybe start giving him a bath with dd? Not sure - don't want to detract from her special-time in the bath with me or dh. Particularly as bedtime has become a bit of a battle. And he's no trouble downstairs as sleeps well while dh and I potter about. We shall see....
dd was about 12 weeks before we had any kind offeeding/bedtime routine. Was always an appalling sleeper though. Goes to show that every baby is different.
What's your ds called?

Holymoly321 · 18/11/2005 14:16

He's called Luca - not that there is anything Italian about our families! I did try the BF'ing thing and did the first few weeks - but it was just too painful had counsellors come round etc, all said there couldn't see that I was doing anything wrong - just had small nips (shame my huge boobs weren't smaller!) and Luca was a sucky baby. But never mind - he's growing well and it means that DH can also feed him. We're off to Centerparcs week after next for a well earned break - they have baby sitters! Maybe it's time for me to start getting Luca into proper outfits? I always think that the waistbands of baby trousers look too tight though.

Ijustlike the fact that Tom can wear pretty much the same clothes morning, evening and at night without faffing around finding matching socks/vests etc. I'm plain lazy
Sorry you had a rough time feeding. I've been very fortunate that it hasn't hurt at all either time (although ds is harder to get latched on than dd was).

Report
Holymoly321 · 18/11/2005 14:45

i never thought it would hurt - media etc makes out it's allso easy and natural - was gutted, guilty etc etc - but now I'm just about getting over it. DS is a big'un anyway - at 8 weeks he now weighs 12lbs 15oz! So I must be doing something right! We're going to CenterParcs for a well earned break week after next, and I guess I'll have to dig out some proper outfits for him as I don't think all day long babygrows will really cut it there! Will be an experience for both of us! I dont' 'think it's lazy though to put him in BG's - just practical, sensible, easy, comfortable and lets face it, they're babies for such a short space of time, let them look cute for as long as poss!!

Oooh another new face!! Welcome SMILING

Afraid I'm one of the dreaded mums with a sleeping through babe... 7-7 sometimes Haven't a clue what I'm doing for this to happen, have come to the conclusion that it's all Conrad's doing not mine

I've seen that some girls are 'dream feeding' and if you're bottle feeding you might find he'll take the bottle at 10pm without fully waking HTH

Beatie - it's me with the poor cracked hands from the nappy soak - reminds me I've another load to go in... I'm using Perfectly Happy People soak, as biodegradable as I could find. Mothercare supply it and I don't get any odour problems.
I'm just using my tots-bots now as he's outgrown his first size cotton bottoms... I prefer them really, so snuggly might just invest in some more of these.

Right then if I dare to put Conrad down without him yelling the house down I'll hunt out some rubber gloves

Hi Cabe - you lucky lucky thing! They don't use sleep deprivation as a form of torture for nothing - although I know that I don't have it so bad - waking up once a night isn't too much of a strain - I know a lot of other parents have it much much worse - plus now that I just keep a sterilised bottle next to the bed with a pot of measured formula, I don't even have to get out of bed! I just wish sometimes that he would give me a night off once in a while! DH does the am shift at the weekends - but he still manages to wake me up at the same time!

Oops - sorry Cabe - I know you use cloth, I must have misread who the message was from. I'm a bit flakey these days.

have just managed to read some more of the messages here - have to agree with 'explosive nappies' after the first set of jabs! Literally one after another - within minutes!! HAs calmed down now though - thank god. He's also feeling a lot more himself now - is currently sitting gurling and bashing the rattle balls on his bouncy chair - phew! . DS has got really nasty dry flaky skin on his forehead, along with cradle cap . HV says just to use olive or linseed oil which I am doing - and though it does make it look less horrible, it's not having much affect. HV says it's just his skin getting used to the world and that it will eventually get better- anyone else going through this?

Report
pooka · 18/11/2005 16:40

Tom has bad cradle cap at the moment. THe HV is right-it does just go eventually.Find it's particularly bad after dh has been holding him - his stubble rubs ds's scalp!

Report
Holymoly321 · 18/11/2005 16:58

it's horrible isn't it? I never knew that it could spread to the face though - I mean I'm assuming that's why his face is all flaky - it looks quite similar and the doctor just said it was normal. I see the cheeks of the other babies at PN group and their skin is so smooth and baby soft - grrrrr ... fingers crossed Luca's will get there soon!
