Enter all ye ESHes. We've been Barren, we've been Pregnant - now at last we are Child-Rearing.

  • Come share your questionable tips on raising a real live baybee!
  • Compete with Cunty to take control of the bad mummy crown!
  • Eat crap ham - after all, you deserve it!

Sorry - just realised you meant your Dad, not TB. Blush. You got stuff to do - and your sister can get her two to do stuff like that while you're busy with your brand new baybee lovely.

rocketleaf · 18/06/2011 11:45

I got him this in grey heather. I blew the surprise though as my addled brain was unable to make the colour decision so i ended up asking him which he wanted. If there are any stalls at this festival thing this avo I might try and sneakily buy TB a little pressie from her for tomorrow.

Yeah I meant MY dad. Actually my sis is having a pretty rough ride at the mo with the other side of her family so not sure if she will have managed anything. Oh well, he'll have to make do with a phone call from my and BL tomorrow.

Medee · 18/06/2011 13:24

I have gone for a photo in a frame for Fathers Day. It was also MrG's birthday recently, so no big presents. I've only ever done cards, not presents to my parents for mothers/ fathers day. Both Grandads have a personalised Moonpig card on its way (actually hopefully there already!)

Muser · 18/06/2011 13:27

My dad got a card from the dog (they really do have a card for everything these days) and TBG's dad a card from the baby. TBG announced it was all made up nonsense so I am off the hook for him.

Medee · 18/06/2011 13:28

Stupid question, but I have just received a cot bumper in the mail - it's currently in the wash. It's one that goes halfway down the length of the cot - it seems ludicrous to put it across the top, as she's nowhere near it then, so I'm assuming it is OK to put it across the bottom where she will actually get the benefit of it? Or am I missing some massive safety issue and am dooming my child to suffocation. Only downside is that we can't see her from the bedroom door and will need to peer over the edge to check on her.

AlpinePony · 18/06/2011 13:36

I think in some circles Medee you would be given crap ham (no butter) on value bread! Never had any myself so unsure of the dangers, but am not a fan of anything which complicates the lives of m&d.

Medee · 18/06/2011 13:39

She moved herself during the night, I don't want her to hit herself against the bars, so think the bumper might be necessary.

Muser · 18/06/2011 13:43

I think the problem is about heat/ventilation so a half bumper should be fine. We took our bumper off because it was a full one, she doesn't tend to move too much though.

Lighttaperstandback · 18/06/2011 15:10

Hello chapettes. Bizarro weather we are having today. Don't know whether to go out in sunnies or mac....

Medee we had a half bed bumper. We put it at the foot end until squib got bigger, then changed ends - he thrashed about so much we thought it would help prevent him from shoving his arm through the bars of the cot. He's so mobile in his bed now though we ended up getting these which seem to prevent arms getting out the sides, but also let air in. Am hoping that as they aren't attached to the top of the cot rails they'll be no good for climbing up once he gets mobile.

My family doesn't do father's day (fight the capitalist power an' all that), but as I got a bunch of flowers for mother's day, I thought I'd better make an effort. The other half does most of the edible cooking round these parts, so I got him the Cake Wrecks book and will put a message inside from Squib with words to the effect of "don't make me one like this for my birthday". Effort made...

CurlyCasper · 18/06/2011 15:22

medee I have a bumper like that and quickly decided it was pointless. Squeaks frequently sleeps up against the bars.

I have just spent far too much money on her birthday party - the reason being that it's really for adults. Very strange mix of products in my trolley - from bacardi to soapy bubbles. I'm getting all excited now, even though it's probably going to be wet and horrible and indoors.

Does arnica really work?I have just bought the Arnicare stick because Squeaks is sporting a very obvious dog cage scrape wound across her forehead. AIBU to not want it there for the birthday pictures?

MadameBoo · 18/06/2011 15:25

It brings the bruise out. Has she got a nice hat? :o

CurlyCasper · 18/06/2011 15:28

a bandana might work!

LadyGoneGaga · 18/06/2011 16:17

Photoshop is your friend, CC

Medee · 18/06/2011 20:12

Thanks for the bumper answers, it is still damp from the wash but will install it tomorrow.

Muser · 18/06/2011 20:21

Friends of extreme, to FB! PICS!

CurlyCasper · 18/06/2011 20:55

CluckyKate · 18/06/2011 22:43

Thanks Alps - that'll be just the ticket for getting this lad to sleep longer between nighttime feeds. He's still on growth-spurt timetable (7/10/1/4/7) and I am getting fucking knackered & tres ratty with the hapless MrCluck who forgot to give him a bedtime feed t'other night & set me up for the worst night ever.

How about a fringe CC?

We have a bumper in BC's cot Meds. Is purely decorative. Am a bit Hmm about the air circulation thing - surely air moves around and about in an osmotic style so can navigate over the sides of the bumper.

Cosmosis · 19/06/2011 13:32

sob sob sob at extremes pics.

Backinthebox · 20/06/2011 11:34

So where's everyone been all weekend? I've been to Peppa Pig Land. Twas fab, even more so once we got out of Peppa Pig Land and into the part of the park where there weren't queues for mindnumbing kids' rides and slightly more interesting mini roller coasters and log flumes.

LG has well and truly mastered crawling, which means the detritus TT leaves everywhere in her wake is popped with alarming regularity into him mouth. Great fun. Nothing is safe any more! On the plus side, he is sleeping so much better and only whines when he is tired now rather than every time I put him down for 5 seconds. And both children spent yesterday with the new nanny and she coped marvellously.

CurlyCasper · 20/06/2011 12:30

stuck with a crap/sad situation at work and nasty molar teething (those things I thought were canines are further back and causing hell/blood) boxy. Plus party planning and holiday packing.

Go LG! Squeaks hand to mouth achievement this weekend was a mini tube of Bepanthen. I'm sure it tasted great

okiecokie · 20/06/2011 12:59

Box I want to go to Peppa Pig Land. I think I will look into that now while I have 5 minutes. Is it do-able in a day? Also, I took Peppa for a walk to the shops on my back in the Babyhawk yesterday! She loved it. It took 2 people 10 minutes to get her into position though. Need to watch vid again. IT really squashed my norks though. Is there a way to tie to avoid squashed norks making it look like I have one big mono-nork?

okiecokie · 20/06/2011 13:16

Oh, just watched vid again Box. I see where I went wrong resulting in mono nork. So am I correct in thinking the shoulder straps come over shoulder and straight under arms to cross at the back? I was crossing over norks at front before passing round the back and crossing there too.

Cosmosis · 20/06/2011 13:32

I was mending my oven. Oh the glamour.

Lighttaperstandback · 20/06/2011 15:48

Congrats on the LG crawling Box. How old is he? Just so's I know when I need to pull my finger out on making a token effort at babyproofing our pad...I'm thinking I have another month or 2 yet before I have to worry...

Some friends have lent us this humongo baby backpack thingie - think it's called a MacPac, for our trip to Sweden in a month's time. It's like a proper framed backpack with room for luggage under the baby's arse, so we can go for some nice hikes in the countryside. Am wondering whether we'd be able to get away with using it as carry on to get Squib to the gate at the airport...though it's pretty big n' bulky. Wonder if we can try and getting it through under the pushchair rules or summat Confused. Will have to check out BA's website on such matters before we go.

Bloody crap weather this weekend. Had the MIL over from the other end of the Eurotunnel. Which prompted Squib to completely forget that he can in fact sleep through the night. Ended up sitting there for an hour feeding him at 5am just so I could get back to bed for another hour and a half. Still, tooth no. 2 has emerged so am hoping that's the end of that for awhile Hmm.

Medee · 20/06/2011 16:23

afternoon all. EA is currently sleeping in her pram after a walk, bliss! So I am pissing about on the internet, filling a virtual shopping basket at Jojo maman and hovering over the checkout button. That 20% discount is a big draw.

Anyway, had a nice Fathers Day, after a shitty Saturday. Saturdays seem to be the toughest day of the week, more so when I am expecting them to be the easiest. MrM and I had a bit of a heart to heart, which helped clear the air.

We went to a castle for lunch and a walk with another couple and their daughter only 3 weeks older than EA; a very pleasant way to spend a Sunday. The heavens opened as we stopped en-route home for a coffee, so timing of the weather was rather fortunate. MrM liked his card and framed photo.
