memph/Chul/anyone else interested: I just reread my pie recipe and realised i missed the leek out of the ingredients list Blush, it makes a surprise appearance in the instructions instead. hope this hasn't fucked up your meal plan memph

you could prob use an onion instead, i'm just not a fan of onions so tend to use leeks instead - and garlic in almost everything

Nearly 24 hours now since she has fed, by some miracle we had some cabbage in the fridge so I am using the old "cabbage leaves down the bra" trick and also expressing some, she is eating loads of soft foods so is OK but keep offering her the boob and she just turns away, must hurt to latch on Sad. She is OK in herself though - cheerful.

cakes i noticed in recipe that that it said add the leek so I gathered there was leek, wont be doing it til tomorrow I dont think , could you do the filling in advance or do you think it would be mushy, aldo why a tin of lentils for this one and bag for the tarka dahl? i dint get lentils having never cooked with them!
stac wss and chul on the Weatherspoon front dh's mum and her husband drink in the local one, she doesnt drink alcohol but he makes up for it, when we go away for her birthday I know she will be sat in pubs all weekend and mainly the weatherspoons as its cheap! He said if you dont like it dont go and I said thank fuck for that! but I dont think that was the reaction he wanted!!! we are spending out about £800 on hotel, petrol, hire car and food for the weekend for her birthday but my problem comes because I have given her 8 weeks notice for L's party and she isnt coming as she is working!! she would change her shift for a weekend watching the rugby though!! and in her case I am a snob, I will always look down on her, the woman expects her kids to drop everything for her when she walked out on them to go and shag half of the city!! ....and breeeeeeath!
mlic dont worry I will just make my usual pastry, thats one thing I can make as I always have really cold hands!! poor W. L's bum goes sore within a couple of bad poo's too!
wss hope G is better soon so your boobs dont explode!!!

L slept from 7 til 7 last night! [shock!]

viksam · 23/05/2011 07:49

Morning all,
Shite night here, poor boy woke at 2.30 and didnt settle again till after 4!! I got up with him for 20mins and gave him calpol, and even dh got up to him this time but he was just wide awake and couldnt settle or be settled. So we just left him, he wasnt screaming just moaning...on and on and on! i put my ear plugs in in the end, i can still hear him but it just takes the edge off. Im glad we left him to ss though, he slept till 6.20ish but stayed in his cot till 7. He does have a 'teething' cold. I was lying there in the night wondering what would happen if he is still doing this when the baby comes and i have to see to the baby??
memphis ur mil sounds like a piece of work!
mylife what are u doing now when W wakes?
chu are u going to any groups locally, what are the people like there?
wws hope things improve today for baby and boobs!
stac how was last night? what does boot camp involve?
I have an end of maternity leave party to go to today and i want to go because i like the people but u know when ur just content to stay in the house and do jobs and tat around, id rather do that and chill out. Maybe thats why i dont seem to get the time to cook, or learn to cook, coz im always out, i need to stay in and set my mind to something!

malibustac · 23/05/2011 07:50

Morning,

Madam woke at ten to 1 then went down till 6 then just woke at 7.30. I have been up most of the night sick though an have a pounding headache.

Poor you and g wss, at least she's still eating.

I meant to say before egg white is great for sore bums as the enzymes act as a barrier and sooth the pain.

Mlic R has a sore butt too I'm sure its her teeth, this seems the worst she's been.

Memphis I don't think your a snob with mil you just have different morals and priorities. I wouldn't be going away for her birthday if she couldn't take time off for her GS. Think I'm my soap box today.

How's everyone else?

CakeandRoses · 23/05/2011 07:58

i was up a couple of times around 5am then poor F woke up crying at 6am as his pull-up had leaked (more like his bits had escaped out the side) and his bed was soaking Sad

mlic yes, good point re the 'resting' the pastry. i'd made it worse by just saying 'roll out' Blush. i use the delia 'method' if you can call it a method. like memph i usually have cold hands which helps Smile

memph cos different types of lentils are very different beasts (not the best analogy for a vegan to use re lentils Grin). red lentils are for mushy stuff like soup or dal and green lentils (and others) are firmer and provide texture to a dish. you can buy dried green lentils rather than using a tin but i find them a bit of a faff to cook from dried if i'm doing a pie or whatever, esp as i don't think they end up much different.

i always keep a can or 2 of green lentils in the larder as i chuck them into lots of things (e.g. if i'm doing vegemince bolognese i'll also put 1/2 tin of lentils in for texture/nutrition). i used up half a can last night by mixing them into some brown rice that i was having with stirfry (dh didn't eat last night) which totally doesn't 'go' but i could eat rice 'n' lentils all the time.

your MIL sounds a total mare - i don't think you're being snobbish at all. and Angry re her not making L's 1st birthday

talking of which, i think we'll do a picnic for A's bday if the weather's good -we'll take food, drink, cake and activities/games for the babies and toddlers

sorry vik, didn't reply re christening - not we're not having F or A 'done' as i'm a total heathen and dh is in theory a believer but not really that fussed

wss at least G is cheerful, it would be even more upsetting if she was sad about it too bet you're dying for her to have a feed! your poor chest!

OP posts:
CakeandRoses · 23/05/2011 08:02

note re soaking bed - he does have a cover on it so the mattress is ok. in case you were worried Smile

poor you stac, how're you now?

vik somehow it does all slot into place when you have two. its not like they're twins and in the same stage at once. a helpful dh does make the nights much easier tho

What should I do? Dylan has had really runny i.e liquid poo for the past week. Should I take him to the docs? Theres a walk in HV clinic tomo afternoon I could take him to instead as thats alot easier than battling to get a drs app.

Its yellow poo like before he was weaned but alot runnier and alot more frequent. He's not taking in as much solids but it shouldnt be THAT runny should it?

CakeandRoses · 23/05/2011 08:35

dh i'd take him or at least call the surgery and see what they suggest

OP posts:
viksam · 23/05/2011 08:44

DH it wouldnt hurt to take him but it could be teething, D had really bad nappies from last weekend all through the week prompting the cm to suggest he maybe had an intolerence to something, but it seems to be righting its self now and his uber sore bum has sorted its self out too. He was pooing 3 times as much as usual in a day and it was quite yellow and runny and we had quite a few explosion poos too. His appetite reduced in the week too but thats started to come back now. Just need him to settle at night now, its such a shame because even DH remembers the beginning of last week when he slept through 3-4 nights and usually DH doesnt remember the good when theres bad going on.

Spirael · 23/05/2011 09:00

It might be worth calling the surgery and asking for the practice nurse to call you back, DH? She might be able to advise, and if she decides you do need an appointment then often they can access appointments on the computer system that the receptionists can't.

It's lovely to hear of all the plans people are making for the 1st birthday parties. Grin The whole of July is going to be filled with parties for us, since we have M turning 1 at the start of the month and DH turning 30 at the end!

It's turned out that M is having no less than four different parties with various friends and family. Hmm She's having birthday 1 the weekend before with my parents.

On her actual birthday DH and I have taken the day off work. We're going to make a cake together, then take her out to an Italian restaurant for lunch (she loooves pasta!) and then maybe go to a park in the afternoon if it's nice. Then in the evening we're having some friends over for a birthday tea.

The next weekend it's birthday 3 with DH's parents and the weekend after we're having a big joint birthday celebration BBQ for DH and M! Then we have DH's birthday to celebrate as a family the week after. Confused

What is everyone doing about the MMR vaccination, apparently? Because that's due at 12 months, according to my reference book.

Poor M's actually going to have it the day after her birthday [bad Mummy] because we're heading to France on holiday a month later, where there's a huge Measles outbreak apparently. So she needs as much time as possible to build up the antibodies after the vaccination before that.

[Debates mentioning that the Wetherspoons in Bradford is actually very nice and she's been there a few times with M.]

[Decides to stay quiet. Wink]

DesperateHousewife21 · 23/05/2011 09:06

Thanks for the advice ladies, Ill see how he is. He actually ate his breakfast today and I can see a new tooth about to erupt so think we're nearing the end.

I'd go dh especially if he's been like that for a week since he canbecome dehydrated or phone see what they advise.

Viks bootcamp is just me letting her cio, although it doesn't work every night. The teething has put a spanner in the works but when she woke last night I gave her calgel on her dummy.

Well my sis has just came up to look after R thankfully. My stomach is aching so taking some painkillers and going to sleep

malibustac · 23/05/2011 10:10

Oh spireal the mmr is between 18 and 24 months here J got his during all the controversy but was was just over 2 due to having chicken pox. R will also get it as like mlic the connection with autism was founded to be untrue.

Maybe different guidlines because its scotland, we don't get a ten month check either in fact we don't get a development check till 24months which they are talking about increasing until 30months. Dythlan what do they do in your area? Glasgow are miserable buggers!

Trudyla · 23/05/2011 12:45

viksam It's def the pregnancy hormones that are responsible for your anger outburst. In the first 12 weeks of this pregnancy I was sometimes so angry and frustrated, my poor DP didn't dare say anything anymore cos he was scared of a bollocking. Very, very unlike me cos normally I hate confrontation, never tell anyone off and would do anything in order to retain peace. Quite a change for my poor DP. I'm mostly over my anger now, so hopefully your hormones will settle down soon for you.

Having said that, I just spent an hour crying cos I'm feeling like such a crap mother and housewife. I think I'm doing everything wrong with M, she again seems so unhappy and cries and whines a lot, I struggled to get her down for her lunch nap and a lot of other things I suck at.

In addition, WSS have you ever heard of anyone fucking up your Impossible Quiche? I bet not, yet I just did. I poured it in a quiche dish and it all poured out all over the oven. The oven is covered in burnt egg mixture now. I can't believe I was so stupid and didn't realise that it needed a closed dish, rather than one where the sides come off. So there, I can't deal with my baby, I can't cook and I can't do anything right.

I am aware that behind this horrible self pitty there is probably hormones to blame but I'm not sure. I never normally have hormonal problems like PMT or anything and I didn't struggle like that in my first pregnancy. Oh well, I hope it will change soon.

In the meantime I will go and wail a bit more Sad

Sorry for this self absorbed post. No need to reply really, just needed to get it off my chest.

kkfairybrains · 23/05/2011 12:47

Still haven't got the chance to catch up! but from the last few posts i gather we have a walker in lyndon! wow thats amazing!
Tsc hope u and dp are ok. Dont know what happened but will read back
stac hopefully your illness won't last too long you poor thing
poor little G wss :( must be so painful for you both
all this meal planning is making me want to do it! all sounds very tasty! the thoughts of getting back into cooking today is depressing
trying to work my way through the mountain of washing here. Just sat down for a break and we've no bloody cable signal for the telly cos of the bloody wind!
How's the pregnancies going trudy and vik?

kkfairybrains · 23/05/2011 12:50

Aw trudy :( it definately has to be hormones. In your last pregnancy you didn't have another baby to think about and it's tiring. I have

Chulita · 23/05/2011 13:47

trudyla you're not a crap housewife or mother. Hopefully you can have a good old cry and get it out of your system before picking yourself up and carrying on. If it's any consolation the bottom of my oven is covered in burnt egg mix from my last quiche, I did a proper pastry case but took it out wrong, burnt my arm and dropped it on the floor so it broke and leaked...but hey ho, it still tasted nice Grin The proof that you're not crap at what you're doing is that the 'failures' bother you - if you were truly crap you wouldn't care less how often/well M napped and would buy readymade filth quiche from the supermarket. At this age lots of babies whinge and cry a lot, it won't be anything to do with you and your parenting skills.

viks I go to a group every day, the same groups every week but I just can't find anyone I really gel with. It's getting irritating tbh but I'm trying to pin two people down to come over, I reckon once I get them in my clutches out of the toddler group arena it'll be easier to get to know them.

dh if you're worried then definitely ring the hv/nurse and ask about it. L always used to get even worse nappies when she was teething whereas S seems immune. L gets the squits at the drop of a hat...DH and I actually tell each other when she's had a 'normal' poo, that's how bad her guts are!

I didn't take L for her mmr til she was 18mths, just my choice - I wanted to wait til she was a bit older before having it. She was horrendously sick after it too so I think I'll wait with S, I'd prefer a sick 15-18 mth old than a 12 mth old even though the chances are he won't react at all.

Chulita · 23/05/2011 13:51

I've not fully decided on our weekly meals but so far it's:

  • Carrot & coriander soup with fresh rolls
  • Cheesy leek pasta
  • Lentil & ham pie
  • Toad-in-the-hole or sausage & butterbean hotpot
  • Mediterranean couscous
And that's as far as we've got
