Hello ladies, hope you found your way over here okay!

Our little newborns are newborns no more! :( :)

Hopefully a while yet before teething and weaning starts, but there's definitely a lot of wiggling and squealing going on already :o

TBH I thought I would do mixed feeding but Alys never really took to purees. She just wants to chew the spoon and then the puree spatters around a 2m radius and is a bugger to clean. At least with BLW I can clean up big chunks of veg.

naturalbaby · 17/07/2011 21:41

i did mixed with ds2 - started with blw to skip the blending and schedules of purees but then started spoon feeding after a few weeks to get more food into him to help cut back on night feeds. he had a bit of melon peel from our dinner tonight and loved it! he's obviously not as hungry for solids as i thought. with ds1 i spoke to a hv about how he didn't seem keen once i'd started and she said once i'd started i should carry on with the weaning routine so i felt pressured to giving him what the chart/book said on the days it said to do it 'right' so it's nice to be more relaxed and enjoy it more this time, and give baby what ever is suitable and on the table when we feel like it.

Grrrrr, going to strangle DH when he gets in, without asking me he's arranged for a courier pick up for some parcels he needs delivered and a delivery today. Neither have happened yet so I've been stuck in the house all day. I was supposed to be going to a 3rd birthday party and the last session of the church baby and toddler group before the holidays and haven't dine either. He's just lucky DD is in nursery today or I'd be in an even worse mood if I had to contain her all day.
Poor Evan is really poorly too, horrible cough and cold so I'm knackered having been up half the night. Oh well it can only get better then can't it Smile

naturalbaby · 18/07/2011 15:52

fuzzywood i share your pain. i've sat at home on many occasions waiting for a courier for dh. i now have a strop or just pull a face if he's lucky so he's built a porch and leaves them out for me Grin
poor evan! my 2yr old has a nasty cough so i've done loads of back patting. i can't believe how long stuff takes to clear up properly. when he was a baby i asked a hv about it and she said it could take 8 weeks for chestiness to clear up!

RunningKatie · 18/07/2011 18:06

I am beginning to love taking DD swimming, she splashes her hands about quite happily - we get out, she has a feed and then she falls asleep. Yay! Grin

We're on a weaning course tomorrow for 1.5hrs, apparently the hv's around here are very keen on blw.

Is anyone else's hair still falling out? I'm still shedding it all over the house.

FlubbaBubba · 18/07/2011 18:50

That sounds lovely running - you've inspired me to take The Boy swimming either tomorrow while the girls are at nursery/pre-school, or with The Man and The Boy next Monday when we've got him to ourselves. :)

He (The Boy, not The Man :o) sat up all by himself in the supermarket trolley today and shouted to his heart's content at everybody and everything (in a happy way!) all the way round the shop. Blush

Yes my hair is still falling out in big clumps :( Got to stop sometime?!

I've got my leaving do at school next week. Have to think of some kind of speech as I'll have been there 7 years!

Fuzzywood · 18/07/2011 20:09

My hair is still falling out too. It's long and dark so makes a mess!
The day actually got worse as the delivery didn't arrive. John Lewis had arranged a delivery for something they don't have in stock. Genius Angry, to cap it all it's DD's birthday present, good job we've been organised andgave a couple of weeks to find it somewhere else. If he does the courier thing to me again Natural without telling me I'm just going to leave the stuff on the doorstep and he can deal with it
Leaving do sounds good Bubba though I guess it's going to be hard after 7 years.
Need to contact my boss to see how the land lies as in the last couple of weeks our CEO has been sacked resigned and the share price halved, not sure how my request for less hours will go down I that environment.
Sounds lovely Running we take Evan most weekends and he loves it too.

travispickles · 18/07/2011 22:42

Hi all! Back from my week-long trip to Bedford/ Suffolk and knackered but love this stage, Saskia is such fun at the moment (even if she has backtracked with the sleep). I will read back so I can catch up with all your news

gallicgirl · 18/07/2011 22:53

Oh glad Alys isn't the only sleeping rubbish. She's gone back to not sleeping between her 7pm-ish feed and her last feed. Tonight she had tea around 6 followed by milk. Then had a bath and was in bed by 7:30. Unfortunately she was awake and screaming before 8:30 :( Couldn't really settle her so at 9 gave her another bottle which she wouldn't finish. Eventually gave her some porridge. this has worked a treat before and she falls asleep fairly soon.

Not sure if feeding her like that is a good idea or not but it seems to work.

Hope you had a good time in East Angular travis.

Fuzzy, do you work for News International? Grin Maybe you can use the turmoil to your advantage and suggest it's a good way for them to save money?

FlubbaBubba · 19/07/2011 15:04

The Boy is sitting playing with his toys like a Real Baby. And he's recently discovered how to roll his Rs/make broom broom sounds with his tongue so does that all day every day :o

Fuzzywood · 19/07/2011 18:40

Fortunately I don't work for News International, that wouldn't be good right now Smile

Evan still not sitting up properly on his own, he does for 30 seconds or so then gets excited about something and falls over Grin. Wish he could sit up as they can play much more happily that way and it would mean I don't have to keep picking him up and putting him back in his mat when he rolls off
One child down the other one looking promising, fingers crossed for an early night. Will probably pay for it tomorrow with DD but I'm shattered after a few bad nights with my poorly little man.

Fuzzywood · 19/07/2011 18:41

Pressed post too soon, cool noise Bubba, guess that's not at all annoying hey Smile

FlubbaBubba · 19/07/2011 19:06

No, not annoying at all, especially not at 5am Hmm

L was falling over sitting a few days ago, and even yesterday was leaning forward a lot (eventually falling over), or, like you say, getting excited about something, laughing and toppling sideways, but today he just seems to have 'got it' and sat properly most of the day and meant I don't have to keep picking him up and putting him back on his mat when he rolls off :o :o

Hope you get some more sleep tonight fuzzy although I think I'm one of the few still left in the Interrupted Sleep Club.

Trying to work out what to do on Friday as am planning on going to my leaving do, taking the kids for a short while then getting DH to come and pick them up. But as L still doesn't take a bottle, my 'celebrating' Wine [hic] will be shortlived :(

LadyBuzz · 19/07/2011 21:59

I don't even bother with a mat anymore she just does not stay in 1 place any more Grin

The sitting is coming on and she can manage a couple of minutes before she face plants.

Raspberries are the latest thing here (blowing them not eating them) lovely Grin

bubba hope you enjoy your leaving doo and manage at least a small Wine

gallicgirl · 19/07/2011 23:26

hahaha Alys has been blowing raspberries spitting at people randomly for a few weeks now. We disturbed her slightly going to bed one night then had to stifle giggles as she spent the next 10 minutes blowing bubbles.

A trip to the supermarket is like an episode of Candid Camera as shoppers look around to work out who let off a wet noisy guff.

Baby slept through last night - 3rd time ever! woo hoo!! but that was only after screaming and crying hysterically for nearly 2hrs so he was totally exhausted when he eventually fell asleep. think he must be having another growth spurt or something as he's been asleep for most of the last few days. when not asleep he's got a lot of complaining to do so i've resorted to sticking a dummy in all day long to keep him happy.

did a top up shop for our holiday next week and was very proud of my 2 and 3yr old walking round the shops with me rather than running in opposite directions and hiding under the clothes displays. i did have to wait for them to push every button on every toy in boots at least a dozen times and drag my 2yr old away with a bribe of pushing the buttons on the credit card machine.

anybody still using a moses basket? i use it for daytime naps because his cot is up in the loft in our bedroom but when he wakes up his legs go straight up in the air and i'm wondering if he'll get to a point where he can pivot himself out of it?!

FlubbaBubba · 20/07/2011 16:11

You can go off people you know natural? Envy

gallicgirl · 20/07/2011 16:23

Bet the sleep feels great natural

:)

Not used a moses basket since DD was 3 months old. We went away for a week and used a travel cot nad it just didn't seem right putting her back in a moses basket so she stayed in the travel cot. she used to thump the sides and wake herself up though so better without it. It's now sitting up a corner in the living room while I decide whether to sell it or keep it in case I ever come around to the idea of a second child.

Looking at putting Alys's cot up in the nursery in the next few days so she can go in her own room. I'm a bit sad about it in a way.

I have been having fun looking at duvet covers and decorating ideas. Her room is ok at the moment and I never decorated it as I felt we'd be doing it for us rather than her, but now we know her, I think it would be fun to have a room that is specifically hers rather than borrowed space, IYKWIM.

I guess we'll probably move in the next couple of years so I'll probably wait until we get into a new house but it's fun to look in the meantime. I like Vertbaudet's sets for kids but not quite so struck on their baby stuff.

FlubbaBubba · 20/07/2011 16:34

I understand you feeling sad about her moving out of your room gallic - it's quite a big step :( / :)

I loved doing up the girls' rooms and then Lachlan's. With DD1 (when I had more time) I painted her some gorgeous animals on the wall - huge, 4 foot high ones, and was so sad when we moved house that someone was just going to paint over them :(

Recently re-did the girls' room and made up L's but he's still not in it because of waking through the night for feeds and I can't be arsed to traipse through to a different room twice a night

He's still in his crib, but it's much bigger than a moses basket but much smaller than a cot (it's the one I had as a baby myself!), but his cot is ready to go. Recently made a duvet cover, now just need to work out how to make a duvet his size from an old duvet we're about to chuck...

gallicgirl · 20/07/2011 18:30

double stitch around the area you want - a big strong zig-zag stitch on your machine. Cut off the excess then maybe you can use wide ribbon or soft cotton to bind the raw edges.

Disclaimer can't sow to save my life but damn good with a hammer action drill.

Grin
FlubbaBubba · 20/07/2011 18:48

Thanks gallic will give it a go. FWIW I'm also damn good with a drill but am learning to be a domestic goddess with a sewing machine too Wink

RunningKatie · 20/07/2011 19:53

DD is in our room still, we built the cot in there and as i'm still feeding her in the night I'm not pootling into her room in a dazed stupor.

I have chickenpox paranoia as we saw her little cousin 10 days ago who has come down with the pox so I'm now worried that DD being all tetchy and out of sorts is because she might be lurgified. Sad

LadyBuzz · 20/07/2011 21:40

running hope it doesn't come to anything, plenty of piriton and aqueous camamile if it does, DS2 had it at 10 weeks and never batted an eyelid. fingers crossed its just a bad day for you.

gallic it is Sad moving them out but lovely to create their space too, Kali loves being in her cot and takes full advantage of the space, now i completely understand the importance of feet to foot as she is such a wriggler, it makes no difference as she is in a sleeping bag but i can so see how it could easily happen!

No domestic goddess here, i can't even sew a button on Grin not much good with a drill either Grin i do make a mean mars bar cake though!
