Hello ladies, hope you found your way over here okay!

Our little newborns are newborns no more! :( :)

Hopefully a while yet before teething and weaning starts, but there's definitely a lot of wiggling and squealing going on already :o

Have been to see my niece and nephew at sports day today, the Mums race is competitive! DD was grumbling all the way through, until near the end when she did a trump so loud the row of people in front all turned around. She then proceeded to fill her nappy quite loudly. What a classy child I have! :)

Thanks for the ideas for presents, spookily for the 2 naming ceremonies I've been to I've bought bowl sets.

Lovely dress Bubba and you look amazing in it Wink

Weaning sounds fun Gallic, having fun's a big part of it isn't it?

FlubbaBubba · 13/07/2011 17:28

Well my resignation has been accepted :( but to be fair, the letter the Head sent me couldn't have been nicer or more supportive, so it has lessened the blow.

L is still not sleeping without waking for feeds during the night, and only sleeps for about an hour and a half at lunchtime (and that's it) - not sure he's read The Rules Hmm. Is loving food tastes so far, and gets quite cross if I take my time in getting the next spoonful into his mouth. He's also taken to grabbing my face and sucking on it like a crazed limpet monster. He then looks very pleased with himself, like he's expressed his love in an acceptable manner Confused :o

gallicgirl · 13/07/2011 17:42

awww sweetie. Grin Just give him a huge chunk of food to chomp on.

gallicgirl · 13/07/2011 18:04

hmm

Just sitting with Alys at the table. I'm eating a sandwich while she has parsnip. The idea is she learns social skills and table manners or something like that.

She keeps looking at my sandwich then back at her parsnip with a look of "why am I eating this crap when you have a sandwich?"

Ah well, two more weeks then she can have almost anything we're having.

LadyBuzz · 14/07/2011 08:14

Aww bubba Sad for you. L's kisses sound adorable Smile

Well Kali is failing miserably with BLW as i suspected she doesn't put the food to her mouth so not sure what to do with that one Confused ???
She is almost 26 weeks now (6 months next Monday Shock) so really should be getting stuck in.]
She a bit crap with the spoon too and still sticks her tongue out - i'm not used to this the boys were like dustbins!

Just keep trying bubba and the interest will come eventually. Does she put other things in her mouth? I can't remember if I've mentioned it before but this website is great: www.babyledweaning.com/

Baked parsnip and apple today, sprinkled with cinnamon, yum yum.

Fuzzywood · 14/07/2011 19:25

We have the same problem with the tongue LadyB what I've found works is to hold the spoon just in his mouth for a few seconds and he kind of sucks the food off. It does result in quite a bit of purée up the nose but apart from that it's going well Grin. I'm not doing blw with Evan but would like to start mixing some finger food with the purée what's best to start with?

FlubbaBubba · 14/07/2011 19:37

You mean LadyB gallic - there's no stopping Lachlan and eating. Funnily enough Hmm. Having said that, there's been a remarkable improvement in the past three or four days (we only started last week) with opening his mouth for the spoon rather than just licking stuff off the spoon. And he shouts at me if I don't get it in fast enough :o

fuzzy we've done a few soldiers of toast with philadelphia sainsbury's basic soft cheese on it, and I used a lot of (slightly cooked) carrot or cheddar cheese in baton/finger sizes with the girls. Not too slippery and easily 'soggable' by little gums.

L sat up for minutes at a time today. [proud mummy emoticon]

Right toast I can do will get some cheese spread too.
Need to go out and buy another sheet for the cot bed tomorrow, Evan is now sleeping in his tummy or side which makes him throw up and as pretty much every food he's tried so far is some shade of orange I'm washing a sheet every day, I only have 2 so if he then has another accident or is really suck twice I'm stuffed. DD was never like that, are boys more pukey than girls or is that just an urban myth? Smile

Fuzzywood · 14/07/2011 22:03

Can't type, sleeps on his tummy and is sick not suck. I need to go to bed Grin

gallicgirl · 14/07/2011 22:37

Knew what you meant and no, my daughter is pretty damn sicky...also pretty damn sucky at the moment.

Since Tuesday, she has spent most evenings screaming and refusing to go to sleep. I think some of it is behavioural and some is reflux. We've started the meds given to us by the paediatrician but they don't seem to be helping much. Think I might have to premake some meals and spend evenings in the darkened bedroom with her next week if she doesn't improve.

fuzzy that sounds exactly what happens here.

gallic i will look at that site thanks.

She is showing definate interest in the food and will almost pull your plate off the table to get to it but just doesn't put it anywhere near her mouth when she has it.
ah she will get there in her own time i'm sure i think its just that she is so different from the boys its thrown me a bit!

aww gallic hope she is better soon.

Breadsticks are also a good finger food, i'm sure i got some special little ones for DS2 when he was weaning but i couldn't see them when i went shopping yesterday. He loved the biscottis aswell in all flavours!

FlubbaBubba · 15/07/2011 09:37

Ooh yes, breadsticks also good.

All three of mine have been big scoffers, willy or no willy Hmm :o maybe more to do with their scoffer mummy :o

gallicgirl · 15/07/2011 18:45

Well I bought some baby rice cakes today and a bag of oats to try things with. I looked at the breadstick/biscotti type things but the baby ones had wheat in which I'm a bit Hmm about and the gluten-free ones had salt in them so didn't bother.

Just have to find suitable recipes now for the oats.

Fuzzy This might sound like a daft question but how is Evan sleeping on his tummy? Alys has bad reflux at the moment and at one point last night, in desperation I put her on her tummy in her cot and she immediately calmed down. However, she held herself up like when we have tummy time and obviously wouldn't go to sleep. Does he put his head on the side?

Fuzzywood · 16/07/2011 18:45

Hi Gallic yes he does sleep with his head on the side when he's on his tummy. But he only ends up like this as I put him down on his back. If I put him down on his tummy then he lifts his head up. Have you tried putting Alys down on her side first then gently rolling her onto her tummy, that's how he appears to get onto his front.

naturalbaby · 16/07/2011 21:01

Exciting to read about all the bits of weaning getting going. I thought baby was desperate and ready to go but he's not impressed with the spoons of porridge so far - just like his big brothers when i started with them. He's very impressed with big chunks of cucumber, apple and pear so I'm sticking with that when I remember and when I can get hold of any - v.disorganised here! he was shouting at dh when the spoons of mixed fruit stopped so maybe i should get sorted and start cooking/pureeing more exciting stuff.

gallicgirl · 16/07/2011 21:37

yay, another baby led weaner Grin

Ditch the purees!

FlubbaBubba · 17/07/2011 12:23

WHY WON'T THE BOY LET ME SLEEP?! I am TIRED!!!!!!! :(

Why are you so against puréeing gallic ?

gallicgirl · 17/07/2011 15:25

Wouldn't say I'm against it - each baby is different and it works for some.
It just doesn't seem to make sense in my head to spoon mush into the baby's mouth for them. BLW makes more sense to me because the baby learns to eat at her own pace, learns to chew first, then swallow so less likely to choke.
I keep looking at the pureed food in the supermarket and the combinations seem so weird. I know food at this stage is all about exploring new tastes but they put some weird stuff together that we wouldn't dream of eating so why should your baby?

I was chatting to my mom about it last night actually and she was saying purees became popular because the advice used to be to wean from 3-4 months when baby not capable of chewing. By 6 months, baby can chew so might as well have solid foods. I'm also a bit lazy and don't fancy cleaning the blender every day. Grin

Is L teething perhaps flubba? It's so frustrating when they won't sleep and there's nothing discernibly wrong with them.

FlubbaBubba · 17/07/2011 16:45

It's exhausting, isn't it jjkm ?! L has twice in his life done a six-hour sleep. But that's it. Last night it was 10pm, 2am, 5am then awake for the day. He's eating loads, and still BFing loads too. Not being able to catch up in the day either (I imagine you're in a similar position what with twins and having returned to work too) is leaving me running on empty.

Had a massive barney with DH today - girls were driving us up the wall, and we took it out on each other, so I took L out with me and went for a good long drive Blush :(

FlubbaBubba · 17/07/2011 16:47

Sorry gallic missed your reply somehow. I was just curious. FWIW I've done mixed BLW and spoon feeding with girls and starting to do the same with L - just seemed you were particularly against it in your earlier post. Agree with lots of what you said in latest post.
