Hello ladies, hope you found your way over here okay!

Our little newborns are newborns no more! :( :)

Hopefully a while yet before teething and weaning starts, but there's definitely a lot of wiggling and squealing going on already :o

Hi all! Found myself feeling a bit blue today - could be tiredness but I did feel a bit fed up with the constant demanding nature of being a mummy. Is that normal at 5 months? I will see if I still feel like it over the next few days but if anyone has any thoughts/ advice/ experience it would really help! Aside from that what have you all been up to? I went back to work for an hour Friday, before I develop school phobia :)

gallicgirl · 03/07/2011 19:02

I find I'm dreadful when AF comes to visit. I seriously thought I had PND for a couple of weeks. I'm keeping an eye on it for now.

I found getting out of the house and talking to my friends about it really helped.

FlubbaBubba · 03/07/2011 20:23

Oh poor you travis - it can take its toll being a mum, can't it? It's unrelenting which can be wonderful when it's good, as the sense that you are the only person this little person needs can be fantastic, but the flipside is that it's blinking tiring! L woke every 2-3 hrs again last night and I was almost in tears this morning thinking about having to go through it all again. It's quite normal, but you're right to keep an eye on it to check it's not a long-term feeling. Do you have other people who can help out? Are you still breastfeeding? (I am, and L won't take a bottle, so it is me, me me he's reliant upon, every minute of every day)

It might be your period like gallic says - I remember when mine returned after the girls it was a lot heavier than pre-pregnancy, and the PMS type symptoms also therefore were a lot worse too.

I'm mentally penning my resignation letter :( but can't bring myself to do it for real yet.

I MADE CROISSANTS this morning!! fecking hard work but by 'eck they were gorgeous!!

Also went on our first bike ride as a family of 5 today - L on my bike seat and the girls on their own little bikes. Was really lovely :)

Sorry to hear that Travis, getting out and about helps me too, may be worth a try.
Pretty rubbish day here, me and Evan both have some horrible D & V bug, think we're both on the mend but I'm exhausted. Plus DD came off her scooter and has badly grazed the side of her face and given herself a thick lip. Poor little mite.
Bubba you're putting us to shame with your cooking Grin

Right I'm back to bed can't face food yet Sad

FlubbaBubba · 03/07/2011 21:19

Well if I can't work because they don't want me , then I'll have to transform myself into a Domestic Goddess and float around all serene and happy, with cakes-a-baking and pots-a-cooking Wink

gallicgirl · 04/07/2011 10:57

That's what I'm sort of doing at the moment. Throwing a basic lump of dough into a bread tin counts as domestic goddessery, yes?

Oh and I swept the floors yesterday. It was pretty gross actually. Blush I'm sure I can find plenty more to do today but I do feel a bit like I'm doing everything. DP does cook and occasionally washes up or does some laundry but I am worried that when I go back to work, I'll still be stuck with everything. I think we'll be having a little chat at some point soon.

I hope Travis and fuzzy are feeling better today.

neepsntatties · 04/07/2011 11:44

Hello, I am new! FlubbaBubba suggested the thread. I have a Dd who is five months. Born 27th jan. Also a Ds 3. Dd is lovely but finding the combination of her and Ds hard. She is ebf, refuses a bottle but is taking tiny amounts from a doidy cup. Not sleeping through, not even close!

I go back to work part time in august. Am a teacher. Would like to get at least 11-5 sleep by then.

Hope I manage to keep up on here!

FlubbaBubba · 04/07/2011 12:15

Welcome neeps - DS was also born on 27th! He is ebf, refuses a bottle and not sleeping through. You are very welcome here to sympathise with me :o

I'm also a teacher but London childcare costs (DS is my 3rd DC) are prohibitive with my shit pay (have had a pay cut Shock), so likely not to go back this time :(

Welcome back fuzzy - hope the hols were fab, and sorry to hear you've come back with lurgies :( Hope they don't linger for too long!

Mad week this week; Jools Holland in Kew Gardens Thurs pm (with entire Flubba family entourage in tow), then The Boy's christening on Sunday (oh, and ILs arriving for the weekend too!)

Trying to ebay off some of the outgrown clothes as The Boy will be my last :( :( :( so having to wash things properly for a change

gallic I've just made my DH sign up to a cleaning rota! :o He is Not Amused :o

gallicgirl · 04/07/2011 12:38

Ooo we're going to Kew on Friday for Jamie Cullum. MUST buy ear defenders today or I will thoroughly earn the useless mummy emoticon.

I set up an ebay account last week and have purchased one item already. Undecided about selling things just in case.

Flubba I just don't know how your school have managed to cut your pay!?

FlubbaBubba · 04/07/2011 16:07

I was fasttracked to leadership a few years ago with a 3-year safeguard which ran out last year. I have no leadership responsibilities anymore, and relinquished my management ones points when I took on the leadership role. It's a mind-fuck in the extreme. Am in touch with my NUT rep just to check what they're doing is legal (I fear it is), although hoping to have a case for not having to pay back my maternity pay.

I am def. bad mummy, as I didn't even consider ear protectors for The Boy. Can't imagine Jools Holland will be too loud (nor for that matter Jamie Cullum?!). Wink

gallicgirl · 04/07/2011 16:35

mmm sounds sort of legal really. Not so much that your pay has been cut but that your responsibilities have changed.

DP is hard of hearing so we do take that kind of thing quite seriously. Nearly Always wear ear plugs to gigs apart from the quiet acoustic ones. Don't want to take any risks really as tinnitus sucks big time. I ordered some from RNID so hopefully they will be here on Wednesday. can give you the link if you like?

travispickles · 04/07/2011 22:01

Hey Neeps - I also have DD born 27/01 and am a sec school teacher. Seems birds of a feather and all that... Feel better today thanks Gallic - went to a breastfeeding support group and had a little cry Sad Blush. Think am worrying a bit about going back to work and how I will organise feeding her etc.

neepsntatties · 04/07/2011 22:06

Lots of teachers!

I have the same worries about going back to work and feeding dd. Going to get dh to keep trying a bottle but she gets upset. Ds took a bottle no bother so this is new to me. I really want her to sleep better too. She falls asleep feeding but wakes as soon as I put her down. I can see she is exhausted and so am I.

saltnvinigarcrips · 04/07/2011 23:04

Well it's reassuring to know I'm not the only one worrying about work and getting DS from boob to bottle. I keep trying him at 11 and 2:30 feed with the bottle but he hardly takes anything although he is getting a bit better but it means he is glued to me all evening. Last night he woke at 12 crying as clearly he hadn't taken enough milk on throughout the day and tonight he has been incredibly clingy. It's so difficult because on the one hand I want to be able to have a bit of me back and be in a position where I can leave him with DH or a trusted friend while I do something for me but on the other hand I don't want to feel like I have lost my little baby boy as I'm not quite ready to let him grow up and have a bottle :(
As for weaning, he has tried sweet potato which was good, butternut squash good and pear and apple. He is a greedy little guzzler but he wasn't keen on the parsnip earlier. Will persevere with that tomorrow.

Glad you are feeling better travis. I've certainly had my ups and downs these last few months and it's strange isn't it that the things you thought would be hard aren't and the things you didn't think would be difficult are.

Despite the whole feeding issue though I really feel uttlerly in love with DS. Everyday he reveals more of his cheeky character and I can't get enough of him.
Mental note to self: must log on here more often! and flubba that totally sucks about your pay. I'm pretty much down to just statutory at the minute and so having to be frugal goddamnit but back to work on the 18th so hopefully things will improve.

RunningKatie · 05/07/2011 19:17

I'm doggedly not weaning DD despite lots of other people offering me smartarse helpful advice on what they think. She's 5 months today and still tiddly so I don't feel that she's quite ready just yet.

We saw the cardiologist last Fri, and the good news is that not only does she weigh 13lbs Grin but she has no cardio problems that are causing the high blood pressure, and we don't have to go back till December for a check-up.

Flubba, that's pretty rubbish about your pay, I can't believe what organisations can do.

gallicgirl · 05/07/2011 19:46

That's great news Running. Must be a weight off your mind.

Alys is just about sitting up now, admittedly uses her hands for balance like a little puppy dog but she's stable enough. I took her to be weighed today and she sat on the scales. (proud mum emoticon).

HV said ok to give her fruit and veg until 26 weeks and can then give her anything so tonight she had batons of carrot and parsnip and some mushy sweet potato. The parsnip went down a treat but I'm not sure she actually swallowed very much. Oh, also tried a bit of melon but she'd had enough by then.

I'd tried purees a few times with little success as she just wanted to chew the spoon so I think BLW with solids is going to be much better for her.

Bit rude of people to offer so much interference advice. Each one develops at their own pace so no need to rush things. Alys is 23 weeks now but I wouldn't have given her solids 2 weeks ago.

PS: new photo on profile and some on facebook.

FlubbaBubba · 05/07/2011 21:52

Gorgeous wee thing gallic !! Love the bucket thing for her too! I knew there was a reason people bought wash baskets :o

FlubbaBubba · 05/07/2011 21:53

Hey, great news running :)

naturalbaby · 05/07/2011 22:47

I can't believe we're onto weaning and going back to work already! I've not got work to go back to (resigned when we moved away last year) but am thinking about it.
baby was 5months last week and is suddenly starving this week and feeding every hour or 2 so i think he's desperate for solids but i'm hoping to hang on a few more days. i did blw with my last baby so he's had a few bits of apple and rice cake to chomp on and loved it, but he's not sitting up well enough yet and choked on a bit of pear today so will have to start pumping and pureeing! he did sleep through till 4am though so can't be that starving just yet.

gallicgirl i have a photo of ds1 sitting like a puppy with has hands to hold himself up, v.cute!

gallicgirl · 05/07/2011 23:21

I wanted one of those rubber ones so I could have filled it with water but DP bought that one. :( Still, it makes a good teething toy when she's in her bumbo in the kitchen.

I think at this age natural food isn't so much for nourishment as for exploring new tastes. You'll be ok BF still or is he not taking enough milk to make you comfortable?
