Eek it's going so fast!

Well my night out has been cancelled so it's not an urgent rush round the shops but we are going to have z look for some summery clothes anyway.

Xav, well done, great news. Hope you snipped DH thinks so!
Sam, good luck TTC.

Mock and HJ, I am ashamed to say I just buy falafel from the shop.

tiredfeet · 06/06/2011 21:22

Wow congratulations xav and lizkin that's lovely news! Am a little bit in awe of people who can contemplate having another one so soon! Will be lovely for you having two so close together when they get older

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 06/06/2011 21:37

I'll try this recipe tomorrow and report back Smile.

400g can chickpeas , rinsed and drained
garlic clove , chopped
handful of flat-leaf parsley or curly parsley
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp ground coriander
1⁄2 tsp harissa paste or chilli powder
2 tbsp plain flour
2 tbsp sunflower oil

Pat the chickpeas dry with kitchen paper. Tip into a food processor along with the onion, garlic, parsley, spices and flour. Blend until fairly smooth, then shape into patties with your hands.
Heat the oil in a non-stick frying pan, add the patties, then quickly fry for 3 mins on each side until lightly golden. Serve with toasted pittas, tomato salsa and a green salad.

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 07/06/2011 08:54

unerringly, DD has just changed the channel to children's programmes on channel 5. Liking the Wot Wots...Grin.

HarrietJones · 07/06/2011 09:06

I got sucked into Bob the builder the other day. Always liked Bob. We still have all the toys!

OP posts:
TyNobdieJigz · 07/06/2011 12:42

Dd doesnt have programmes on tbh, but ds does.
Ds went with dh today to playgroup as dh has a week off. Leaving Sophie and I together and the tv was on.
She was engrossed by Disney Junior! Grin

HarrietJones · 07/06/2011 12:58

Bob the builder was dd2s choice. I think she is using dd3 to regress. Dd2/3 are developing quite a bond where as dd1 is more a carer than playmate.

SeaShellsHasSandInHerShoes · 07/06/2011 14:30

I've got a job eeeeeeeeeek Grin about 45% hrs, really local and just arranged a great childminder, so I can finish with ds1s pesky nursery hurrah :)

I'm gutted to be leaving dd, but it's only for 4-6hrs a day, 4 days a week and no commute so max cuddle time-mightily relieved :)

TyNobdieJigz · 07/06/2011 15:17

Ds loves Bob, he has a bob birthday balloon atm attached to his scooter Grin
Congrats Seashells, it sounds perfect :)
I have got to try and arrange childcare for dd and ds when I start college, I have no idea where to start Confused

TribbleWithoutACause · 07/06/2011 15:39

Ty I would start by looking at a nursery near where you'll be studying. Go on your own without the children and look around. Maybe go see one or two of them. Above all follow your instints, if you look around and think to yourself 'OMG it's horrid in here' then don't send your children there. Look on childcare.co.uk and ring around some childminders, go look at their homes and see if you feel comfortable with them. If you have two, it might be worth looking into a nanny as well. If you think that most nurseries will charge £3.50 to £4.00 per child and a Nanny may charge £6 - £7 an hour (obviously this varies from county to county) then it may work out cheaper. You can contact a Nanny agency, look in the yellow pages for one or online.

HJ Bob the Builder is brilliant, theres a very big age gap between me and my little brother so I spent a lot of my teenage years watching it. I always wondered when Wendy and Bob would kick themselves up the bum and admit that they liked each other. Although at that stage in my life I was going through my tres tragic Mills and Boon era Blush.

DS has two teeth coming in, this accounts for him being a misery yesterday for me. He just screamed for the entire day.

HarrietJones · 07/06/2011 16:28

Oh tribble but that issue was confused by her sister coming on the scene. And his brother was another problem.

Congrats seashells sounds perfect!

My pregnancy craving for gooseberries has kicked in again. Just did a deal with the greengrocers on a huge box!

TribbleWithoutACause · 07/06/2011 18:21

HJ Shock I've missed so much in Bob the Builder land!!! Did he like her sister instead then? Did she like his brother? Did they all end up on Bob the Builder style Trisha after a wrench fight in the yard?

Xavielli · 07/06/2011 18:50

DP took the news very well! Obviously a bit upset that the snip seems to have been for nothing so far. He's more worried that people (who don't know that the snip is not 100%, and that it takes up to 7 months to clear out the last swimmers) are going to say he's not the father!

DS2 been a bit grumpy today and very dribbley! His front 4 top teeth are descending at quite some rate, poor monkey!

HarrietJones · 07/06/2011 20:11

No romance ( on screen ) but definately flirting from Wendy's sister. Have you seen the Xmas one with Noddy Holder? Wendy flirts with Tom.

Xavelli. Looks like you're going to be educating people then!

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 07/06/2011 22:22

Congratulations Seashells. What a relief for you.

I had a decent day today. I got an Aquascutum cord jacket for £30, reduced from £300!! Its really smart.

floozietoozie · 08/06/2011 00:27

Congrats lizkin and Xavielli.

Mock, how did the falafels turn out? Ds likes them but he seems to be going off theshop ones nd I certainly have. Too salty even for me let alone dd. Apart from bread and cheese I never give her anything with salt in. By theway, what quantity of onion was it, the ingredient list didn't specify.

Eight month check today. She's 17lb4oz now, on 50th centile for weight. Hv measured her head twice because she couldn't believe how big it was. I said it runs in both families Grin. Ds had a hat when he was three for ages 6-8!

floozietoozie · 08/06/2011 00:29

Oh andcongrays Seashells. Is it a vet job or other? When do you start?

HarrietJones · 08/06/2011 08:50

My three all have big heads too floozie. Didn't get measured at the check though. We only has weigh in & hip check.

OP posts:
MockingbirdsNotForSale · 08/06/2011 10:34

Oops, sorry Floozie. Its a small red onion. I didn't try it as I thought I had chick peas but didn't. I will soon!!

Is anyone else's DC practicing fine motor skills by pinching hard? It really hurts.

I had DD weighed as well on Monday. She's 15.5lbs so somewhere between the 9th and 25th percentiles. Which is great considering she was born on the 2nd. DD also has a big bonce. It is all my sister can bang on about when she sees her. tbh, I think it looks fine on her. Its on the 75th percentile at 44cm. What was your DD's floozie?

HarrietJones · 08/06/2011 12:03

Dd3 is practicing fine motor skills by picking up things off the carpet to eat. Crumbs, shavings, straw (we do Hoover but dh is currently carrying stuff straight through the house/garden!)

OP posts:
SeaShellsHasSandInHerShoes · 08/06/2011 12:23

Thanks everyone :) yup, vetting-those hours are unheard of, I would be a fool to turn them down. Start mid aug.

Dd had her 8mth check today-little fatty is 19lb 15oz of bf gorgeousness! Nor weight her for ages so
Was a bit surprised Grin she will be taller than ds1

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 08/06/2011 16:07

Just got back from the shops. Been to MC to have them take away our pushchair as the brakes have seized. Have got a complimentary stroller that was fresh out of the packet. DD was funny looking round her and examining the straps etc very closely when she got in it. I also got her some stacking bricks, cups and a play tree type thing from Toys R Us. She fell asleep as soon as we got into the shop, so could not be dazzled by everything on offer. Funnily enough she did the same thing last time.

Then we went to Tescos and I have got chickpeas so tonight is falafel night! DD was sat in the trolley seat thoroughly enjoying the view and carrying my purse for me. An elderly lady came up to look at DD as she thought I had a doll in my trolley apparently Hmm. DD grinned at her and showed off her dimple (she only has the one) and the lady said to her 'oh you're just perfect aren't you' and was rewarded with DD's normal response to close attention which is a quick smile then an instant turn of the head away. If I'm holding her when she does this, she buries her head into my shoulder. She's always been like this.

Glad the hours are so good Seashells and what a great weight for your DD Grin.

tiredfeet · 08/06/2011 18:26

Congratulations seashells , what a relief to find a vet job with good hours Smile

mocking that falafel recipe sounds lovely, have made a note to try it, thank you! Your dd sounds adorable

Dh looking after ds today, and he rang me at work to ask what do do as he needed to ahem visit the bathroom but ds was being fussy - I think it is slowly dawning on him that looking after ds on his own is quite different from playing with him while I'm at home too Grin I think it will be good for both of them though to have that time together. He wants to find an activity to do with ds each week though, but swimming is out due to ds eczema and dh is a bit intimidated at the idea of going to a baby group with just loads of mums there, anyone got any suggestions?

MockingbirdsNotForSale · 08/06/2011 18:56

Well, the falafel recipe wasn't a 100% winner, so I am going to try others and report back Smile. This one needs more chilli I think.

Grin at your DH TF.

Hmm, things to do that are not too mother and babyish....how about one of the surestart sessions thats messy play? I would think that the parents' focus will be on their children and your DH could just play with your DS and not be too involved in mummy stuff?

DD is staying with my parents for a long weekend at the beginning of July. First time away from me overnight Sad. DH suggested some time away together without DD before he heads off for 6 months (we're also going away with DD for a week). So I thought I'd try DD with a bottle as its been ages since she's used one and I know we could use a cup, but I think more milk would end up round her neck than in her mouth. Anyway, she took to it like an old pro which was a relief. I think I'm going to go for one a day in the run up so she's used to it and then I can express too. I am worried about her waking up in the night when she'd with my parents though. I don't want to knacker them out and although some would say that at a nearly 8 month old should not be waking in the night, She is more often than not and for example the other night it was also for a nappy change. But then again, my parents know she's still night waking and they've said yes....
