Beadit Did you mean The Deep in Hull? I live 10 mins away from it and it is fantastic, if a little scary. we are taking DD2 and Lucy there when the kids go back to school.

bananacurry · 29/05/2011 21:05

Beadit Olly has had cuddlys in his cot forever! ds1 did too! I never thought about it!!!

Well, we have tooth number 2! Bottom left is finally through! cinnamon I'm hoping that when the ulcer clears there wil be a tooth there too! it looks like its moved down. Makes sense of his funny face when he's eating! Its a reall shuddder like you get when somethings sour or acidy when you have .... an ulcer!!!

Poor Luke, (and you!) Hope you're both ok! & Sassy how awful, I hope its not the worst!

sassy34264 · 31/05/2011 09:10

Question for those with an older child. Did any of them bite? Chloe never did so wanted some advice.
Also the babies meals seem to be a bit repetitive, so was wondering if you would care to share some of the things your lo's eat.
so far mine have had porridge, sunny start weetabix, toast, banana, apple, pineapple, plums, pear, oranges, carrots, tomatoes, cucumber, leeks, broccoli, cauliflower, onions, peppers, mushrooms, potatoes, sweet potatoes, cheese, beans, chicken, beef, salmon, cod, haddock.
another reason is to see if you've given them things that i havent thought of, or i think they may not be ready for but it might just be me being cautious. like for instance i wanted to give them tuna but havent yet cos of the mercury in it, but when i looked it up on the internet it said it should be fine in small quantities ie, once or twice a week. also i've only just give them tap water but apparently i could have done that from 6 months.

sassy34264 · 31/05/2011 09:12

ohh, forgot pasta and rice.

SeaChelles · 31/05/2011 12:35

Sassy - Oliver just has pretty much the same as we do now. He had chicken curry (very mild) the other day, a beef roast on Sunday. He loves tuna pasta bake and goes absolutley nuts for a slowcooked beef casserole.

The only thing I haven't tried with him yet is nuts - we are going to give him some peanut butter on toast soon though just to check for allergy really. Oh and Honey, coz they cant have that til 12 months.

He also likes omlette and sausage and beans! I just buy reduced salt and sugar beans and low salt stock cubes.

Oh yeah....he likes cornflakes! lol..... Grin

Debs75 · 31/05/2011 12:41

Sassy that sounds like a good range of foods, do you offer them as finger foods or are they mushed up? Lucy probabaly eats the same but we do tend to stick to similiar breakfasts and dinners, usually boring cereals and sanwiches. She loves scrambled eggs or omelettes which are easy for her to hold.

As for biting my DD1 did it twice. The first time I told her no then put her on the floor with her back to me. The second time I did exactly the same and she never did it again. With some kids it will take more time but the idea is if they bite they don't get your company for a couple of minutes. You aren't biting them back which is just archaic and brutal and you aren't being harsh. It is just a simple no and removing from you or whoever was bitten, they soon realise biting stops them having fun

sassy34264 · 31/05/2011 13:30

thanks chelle and debs
i've been sitting him down and saying no with a pointy finger. my mum says i did it and she bit me back and i never did it again. but i cant bite my own child. lee says he'll do it! not sure if hes joking or not. anyway, i will definately turn him away from me next time and see how well that wirks. i have been making some progress as he sometimes goes to bite but then stops as though hes thought about it. he only seems to do it when his teeth are hurting as well.
ive not give mine eggs yet, when chloe was younger you were supposed to wait till they were 12months- as this changed now?

sassy34264 · 31/05/2011 13:46

sorry debs missed your question. they've had toast, pasta, tomotoes, cucumbers, cheese, pineapple , bananas, plums, strawberries, chicken breast and oranges as finger foods. but they also have some of that mushed. i used to blend but now i just squash with a fork. i have had a few choking moments with isobel, one in particular was a little scary, so maybe im over cautious. and i have it in my head about a news story i saw once where a couple had been giving their baby ready break and it died of a salt overdose. so they've never had cereal. other than babies stuff. could try shredded wheat i suppose. thats supposed to have no added stuff. might sound fanatical (im not!) but i have this thing where i dont see the point in giving them stuff thats bad for them when they've not asked for it. did it was chloe and she still doesnt care for some things- like fizzy pop and puddings\cake. the same cannot be said foe chocolate and crisps though!

sassy34264 · 31/05/2011 13:56

god, im sat here thinking they're either gonna think im judgemental or fanatical about food! its just that i was a veggie for 18 years and even though i eat meat now, i can only face pure meat, ie meat thats not had stuff put it in, like chicken or steak, or a joint. i cant face sausages or burgers, or even ham and chicken slices etc, so we hardly ever buy them. i also have a wheat intolerance so i never buy pre packaged food, ie ready meals cos i can't be sure whats in them. so my diet is bssically meat veg znd friut. its a wonder im not s whippet but when you buy a tin of roses on a saturday and they've all gone by monday. you realise why you're not! and when you can eat a litre of ice cream and not feel sick- well you get the picture

patito · 31/05/2011 15:36

Hi

Just popping in, will catch up properly later.

Helloooooooooooo again sassy I cant believe how yur getting on, its amazing, I feel a bit crappy if I compare myself to you. Im always complaining how knackered I am and I only have my 2 LO to look after. So glad pregnancy is going well, and the twins look beautiful.

Both DS and Maia have bitten me, i just unlatched them and left it at that, DS got the hang pretty quickly but Maia keeps doing it Angry

Maia is 9 mths tomorrow Shock, she´s on the small side, weighing it at just 6 kilos when last weighed at 6 mths. She´s been on the move since around 4 mths old and does pull herself up but i think she´s a way off walking yet as she doesn´t cruise and wobbles loads. She has two teeth, and cackles like a witch when she´s happy.

sassy34264 · 31/05/2011 16:54

hi patio nice to hear from you. was thinking about you earlier today. thought about who i hadnt heard from yet- you, watersprite, frigg, bellabelly and park i think.
honestly if you knew me really well you would never feel crappy by comparison. i muddle through at best. im a bit like, how many days now since they last had a bath? oh i forgot to brush their teeth (after they're already in bed) then i think- did i even do them the day before?! ive only really had them out of sleepsuits in past 2 months and even now i dont always bother getting them dressed if we're not going anywhere! that goes for me too. and my house is consyantly upside down. I just ignore it and when i get a burst of energy-,every few weeks- it gets done. id love to be one if those women who gets up an hour earlier to have a shower, put make up on, get kids ready and is out the door bwfore 9 but to be truthful i need a sit down just thinking about it. Grin

mapletrees · 31/05/2011 17:05

Hey all,

sassy I don't think you sound particularly fanatical. We're quite strict about Louis not having added salt and sugar at this age.. As you say, they're too young to ask for it. I do think some of the girls at his nursery think I'm a bit mad though when I keep trying to explain that the yoghurts they have have sugar in Grin Oh, and the advice on eggs is from 6 months, though you do have to watch out for a reaction, as beadit found out...

So, it's my first day back at work tomorrow Shock. I've been getting used to leaving Louis, and I'll still get to see him for feeds twice a day, but it's still strange to think I'm going back..

bananacurry · 31/05/2011 17:05

Sassy my friend tried the bite back theory, didn't work! in fact nothing did & she's still doing it 2 years on!!!!!! As for food, I just put a little portion of whatever we're having to one side & he has it the next night. He's a big fan of bolognaise, mackrel, plain veg, pasta, pretty much anything really! Watersprite & Frigg are usually about but Bellabelly & park rarely post now!!

Cinnamon you were right! The ulcer has gone and a tooth is there instead. I only realised when he was grinding his teeth at tea time. I was wondering how he could do that with bottom teeth only! Duh!

I'm at work tomorrow & Dh is staying home with the boys. I can't wait to see how he gets on

Olly 9 months today Shock (Patito i still think every time we get to a month older that there's literally 1 day between Olly & Maia but a whole school year!)

sassy34264 · 31/05/2011 17:44

oh i forgot to add about mammyg she's probably back teaching now.
my deepest sympathy for all those back at work. i told dp years ago that i wouldnt work if we had babies. so hes got no chance. although i forgot to mention that one of the things that came out of our big arguement was that he needed to leave the navy. voluntary redundancies has come up since, and he has applied. really hoping he gets it as it is quite a big pay off. not sure what we plan to do with it, but im pushing for an holiday home! or even a move abroad. dp wants it too but hes being all manly about it ie, practical. Wink
mellymooks i have give them yogurts but never more than 2 of those little petit filous ones. another thing that came out of our argument was that sat mornings where my lie in. untill i came downstairs and hed give them the full pack of yogurts (12) and despite me telling him 5oz of milk to mix with rheir sunny starts, hed made them with our milk. fortunately you can cook with our milk, but what if you couldnt. i went bonkers at him. i was like a screaming banshee- oh my god lee, do you know what the 2nd ingredient is on yogurts? its sugar and you've give them 12! there going be wired all day. and why have you used cows milk i told you 5oz why would i say that unless i meant their f*@+ing milk. im going to be having a lie in and your going kill my babies!
a little dramactic but i was incensed. he reckons now that if he gets redundancy hed like to stay at home with the babies why i go back to work. i think id make him read a few books first!

bananacurry · 31/05/2011 19:09

No sympathy needed here sassy Work is entirely my choice. I'm not back properly till sept but have chosen to do some keep in touch days. I get paid but they don't affect my mat allowances. I love my job. Its part of who I am and without it I turn into a horrible stressed shouty mummy!!!!! Also, not sticking up for your dp but they can have our milk from 6 months. just not as their main drink as it doesn't have all the vitamins they need. Ollys been having it on his cereal for the last 3 months!!! Hope the pay off comes off. Tell him to stop being so boring & go for the holiday home. We could have the next meet up there!!!! (no babies Grin )

The email to huggies has been recieved & they've replied, thanking me for my valuable comments & hoping that I will use them again. with that in mind, they've sent me some vouchers in the post!!!!

comixminx · 31/05/2011 20:02

Same here re working - am going back next week and am looking forward to it! I've enjoyed my keeping in touch days and it looks like Aphra will be enjoying nursery - she's had an acclimatisation session today (half an hour) and is due a longer one tomorrow.

We also give Aphra more or less what we're eating, though without anything very salty if there is a component of that - for instance normally not bacon in our bacon and egg cooked Sunday breakfast! But she did have a wee bit of bacon in the pasta sauce I made today, allowable because we don't put much salt in what we're cooking. The Ready Brek story is a bit of a myth when I investigated it on the internet - actually Ready Brek is not high in salt! Apparently the couple had in fact been giving the little tiny baby things like gravy made from Bisto, ie salty pre-processed adult food that he really wasn't ready for. When we started weaning her we measured out a week's allowance of salt for 2 adults & 1 toddler and tried seeing how long it took us to use it up in our cooking - nearly a month it lasted! So we figured that in terms of our normal cooking our diet is pretty low in salt, and of course she doesn't get much quantity of it in any case (we're doing baby led weaning so a lot of it gets thrown around).

sassy34264 · 31/05/2011 20:48

im glad you are both looking forward to work. maybe thats where i was going wrong cos i basically hated mine for 5 years. spent 2 years teaching prison inmates (15-21yr olds) and then 3 years teaching 16-18 year olds in a college. it really puts you off youth!!!!!! Grin
what is it you do, if you dont mind me asking?
im looking at getting a hol home in italy, only a 2 hour flight, and you could definately come for a meet up, with or without the kids. ha.
banana its not that they are allowed it, its that he didnt know either way.
i probably need to relax a bit about the salt issue comix its my fault for doing a nutrition course last year and learnibg what physiological effects it has. just remembered something from when chloe was about 2 yrs. me and my mum where shopping around preston and chloe was a bit hungry, so we went into a health food shop and i goyt chloe some japanese crackers. after about 30mins her face and neck had this horrible red rash all over and that was caused by the salt. must have that in my sub conscious as well! ill shut up now. Smile

comixminx · 31/05/2011 20:57

Well, it's all down to what you feel comfortable with in yourself isn't it? We also don't offer her sweet stuff like chocolate or puddings, though I do occasionally give her a ginger bikkie to chew on (but only occasionally).

comixminx · 31/05/2011 20:59

Oh yes, I work in IT doing business analysis - so when we need to implement a new computer system it's me (and folks like me) who ask details on what the people using the system need to be able to do, and then make sure that the new system either can do it (including testing the new system and making sure that the folks who use it are also involved in that part) or agreeing changes that people can work with if the system can't be made to work the way they ideally want.

SeaChelles · 31/05/2011 21:03

Just a daft thought - Olly now drinks prob between 6 and 9 ounces of water or very diluted juice everyday. I have been leaving his juice cup in with where he plays with his toys, and every now and again he will just spot the cup, pick it up and have a drink. Am I wrong to be doing this - should I just be giving him water with meals or at certain points? I just wanted to leave it out so he could get some when he wanted it? Hmm

His black eye is starting to heal, got some lovely pics today, just a shame about the big shiner in them!!

Just ordered DP's fathers day card from moonpig - its ace! With pics of Olly all over it! Also ordered him this handcarved wooden photo frame that has I [heart] my Daddy and "Love you Dad" engraved in to it. Just trying to think of something to go with it? Any suggestions?

Sassy, I was made redundant while I was on Mat leave and am now desperately searching for somethign part-time or condensed hours to go back to. Its not that I WANT to go back, just have to financially. To be honest even if we could afford for me not to go back I think I would have to go to some extent just for my sanity! Grin

mapletrees · 31/05/2011 21:04

sassy I buy yoghurts and fromage frais with no sugar for Louis when he's at home. Yeo Valley baby yogs and Plum ffs. They're not very sweet but still really nice. Luckily Louis doesn't seem to be that sweet-toothed anyway - he tends to refuse when they try to give him puddings at nursery Smile

I'm also looking forward to going back to work. I guess it just feels like we're moving into a different stage iykwim...

Dixiebell · 31/05/2011 21:23

sassy, I'm exactly the same with salt and sugar in food, in fact there are a fair few things on your list Arlo hasn't had yet, so perhaps I'm less adventurous! I use annabel karmel recipes mostly. Arlo eats better than us. DH often comes home from work saying mmm, something smells good, and I'm like, this is Arlo's, we're having frozen pizza! ;) just seems like Arlo is this pure untainted little body, and I don't want to be the one to ruin it!

bananacurry · 31/05/2011 21:26

I'm a nurse Sassy I work in the community with housebound (mainly elderly) patients. I get to talk about my babies all day cos they love hearing about them & follow their progress like family would. Well, most of them!! It gives me chance to be me for a few hours instead of Toby & Ollys mummy or ricks wife!!!

cinnamongreyhound · 31/05/2011 21:27

Luke has mostly what we are having but I also cook for him from annabel karmel's 100 purées book as some things are too salty for him and he has cooked food for lunch too. His favourites are tuna pasta, spag Bol, red pepper Dahl and rice, roast dinner, anything with green veg, mash and anything cheesy! He also likes houmous and has a lot of finger foods. Dh is a nightmare with him, doesn't see why he shouldn't have things and gives him most things when I'm not looking, including sherbet and Jaffa cakes!!

It's great if you enjoy your job, I loved mine before I had ds1 but I didn't want to leave him and was so glad when I started childminding instead! MammyG extended her leave so I don't think she's going back until September.

Had a lovely day today, been to cheddar gorge but dss decided to climb up and despite me warning dh he let him go and then couldn't get down. Dh had to go and get him and is terrified of heights and said he was considering getting me to call someone to help!! I hate seeing him vulnerable like that, he's always so strong!

cinnamongreyhound · 31/05/2011 21:32

Missed loads of posts while writing!! We buy plum yogurts too!

Luke drinks a lot more than ds1 did and I probably should offer it more but I got so used to ds1 not wanting to drink! Nothing wrong with it being avaliable all the time, personally I only give water but upto you with juice :)
