It's not Mothers Day till Sunday, so another 11 hours yet but thanks any. The trashy mags have already been read - love em Smile.

And I suppose it wasn't really a 23 hour flight - it was an 11 hour one followed by a 12 hour one, with a few hours at Singapore airport in between. Actually, travelling with them as babies is much much easier than with a toddler who wants to race around everywhere, I find.

The loveliest thing was when I flew to the UK when A was 7 months (again, 11 and 12 hour flights) and when we got off at Manchester a woman came up to me and said "I was watching you on the flight on your own with the baby and I just wanted to tell you how well you did!". Nearly brought a tear to my eye (especially as I had barely slept for 36 hours!)

vik is it a really huge shock then? Were you not planning on any more yet or at all? Fwiw, having two dcs has really made me feel like we are a family - I mean we were anyway but it just really really feels like we are now - especially the two of them together, they are very cute. But that's not much comfort to you if you only wanted one.

Stac glad the service went well.

viksam · 07/05/2011 07:41

morning all,
wss Thats so lovely what the lady said, u must have made an impression on her. What do u do about feeding, are they bf. Im wondering what i do about bottles/water/food etc. Mine is only about 2hrs 20 but obviously u have to go through security before that and its right on morning bottle time so im not sure.
Thanks for ur thoughts about your family, i can see what your saying. I didnt intend to only have one but both me and DH have found things more difficult that i imagined and i just wasnt convinced i wanted to do it all over again. I have also, guiltly, enjoyed going back to work for 3 days a week for lots of reasons, but theres no way we could afford to put two in childcare so it would be sahm for me and i didnt feel i was cut out for that, i think im too selfish!
Anyhow, just waiting for DH to get up and i will pop out to the supermarket and do the deed, however i woke up with pretty intense stomach cramps last night so it could be over before it really starts.
cake thats a lovely gift, its amazing that one person can have so much tallent, how unfair, my DH is a little like that, very academic but also very creative.......tut!
stac glad ur day went well, sorry i have been a bit wrapped up in myself....whats new!!
tsc is it a better start to the day today?
woodlands hows J this morning?
chu what did u do about the tree?
mylife what sort of night did W have, are u still doing cio? is there a need? im pleased to say D slept WITHOUT A PEEP!!!!! all night........from 7.20 till 6.37. I woke with cramps however and at 4amish lay there waiting for him to wake bit he didnt. Im very proud of him!!
Whats everyone doing today?
Right, come onnnnnn DH get the hell up!!!!!!!

viksam · 07/05/2011 07:44

sorry mylife xposted!! heat must be making babys sleep!! we have a storm last night and the rain was ridiculous! still really warm though. Playgroup on a sat? we dont have anything on a sat here.

malibustac · 07/05/2011 08:25

I have had enough! Dp can go feck himself as bootcamp starts tonight. I have tried shsh pat, brought her into our bed, fed her, changed her and done the teething stuff and she still constantly woke up. Doesn't help the neighbour upstair allowed her 17 year old sister to have an unsupervised fecking party! I am tired and fuming. Meant to be at zumba this morning but I have a severe headache and feel sick.

Viks you haven't been wrapped up in yourself, this is a big thing. We're all here for you to talk it out.

Mlic great news about the boys sleeping through, any tips for madam

Wss you can fill us in on the celeb gosss as I have no clue about any of it anymore lol. Happy mothers day when it comes.

Dh its been raining here all night so quite Envy of your gorgeous day. What you doing today?

How was everyone elses night and any plans for today?

Vik I was bfing so didn;t need to take bottles etc through. I took some (unopened) jars of baby food, fine on the way to Uk, on the way back I had to open them and taste them to prove they weren't explosives or whatever. They actually had jars of baby food on the plane but not sure if that was just because it was long haul.

I think at most airports you can buy water/formula cartons/etc once you've gone through security and then you are fine to take them on the plane.

Hope you're feeling OK whichever way the pg thing turns out. No need to feel guilty for enjoying a few days back at work, there are plenty of days when I wish I was too!

Chulita · 07/05/2011 08:56

mlic so please that W seems to be better, and brilliant news on the sleep
Is it bad that I'm getting freaking broody too? I really, really am...maybe DH will get some after all...

Chulita · 07/05/2011 08:57

d , please-d, just before memphis notices Grin

How are you memphis? how's your mouth? sounds horrible tbh, but then dentists make me shudder at the best of times (not that there is a dentist at the best of times imo)

stac I did cc with DD at 10ish months cos she was a freaking nightmare...

Chulita · 07/05/2011 08:58

wss happy mother's day for when you wake up Grin hope you had a chilled out night!

WhatSheSaid · 07/05/2011 09:01

Thanks Chulita Grin

DesperateHousewife21 · 07/05/2011 09:30

stac the usual boring Sat stuff, food shopping and going to see MIL.

Hope R sleeps for you today.

malibustac · 07/05/2011 10:20

Think your right mlic and chu I have to get tougher. Told dp he can sleep in the sitting room till I sort her out and hopefully she will settle down. How long does it take or does it depend on baby\parent?

Chu glad nephew is on the mend. Poor L I have excema and it drives me mad. That's also good news about S and the dairy. I knew you weren't rubbing it in the was sleeping, goodness you and mlic have been through far more sleep deprivation than me.

Just shows how vigilant the airports have got when you have to open baby jars to check they aren't bombs

Dh that's my day today, ds is going to footy but I'm going food shopping. The sun has come out which is good

CakeandRoses · 07/05/2011 11:09

Oh no, not you too chul Grin, thought he was safe now he's turned 60.

Yay to your good nights chul and mlic!!! Smile really pleased the dairy avoidance seems to be helping mlic

chul did i misremember it or did you say you'd try to eliminate stuff from L's diet?

stac personally, I would make 100% sure there's nothing 'wrong' with R before doing cio/cc as the fact she's still crying when in your bed would suggest to me that something might be up (teething/hunger/illness/intolerance/wind). I know i'm the softest person ever with this stuff (I still can't/won't even let F cio at night) but I just think you'd want to be sure they're not crying for a 'reason' before letting them get on with it.

kk when we last flew with F, we could take food/drink thru for him, i just needed to taste it - worth checking tho as things may have got tighter since. deffo take a dummy/bottle or something like raisins to give her for take-off and landing and the pressure hurts their ears otherwise as they don;t know to swallow to relieve it.

Madam's other top tooth is now trying to break thru so sleep is horrendous here. Thankfully, DH just gave me a lie-in. He's just taken F into town for their Sat morning breakfast ritual so I've just had breakfast with A. she's now down for a nap so i'm finishing this mega-post then having a lovely hot bath.

anyone up for a quick mini-survey on eating habits (babies not ours for a change Grin) as I'm a bit surprised that A still appears to need/want 4 milk feeds on top of (what seems to me) a lot of solids. i know it's pretty normal tho judging by others on this thread on similar amounts of milk.

This is what Lady A has (the quantities are roughly what she actually appears to ingest not what she starts out with!)

First thing: Milk feed

9am Most of a slice of toast with humous, cream cheese or veggie pate. Half a bowlful of porridge or weetabix mixed with 'milk', fruit puree or half banana

1pmish A veg samosa (minus a corner), a few salad leaves with french dressing, about 1stp of carrot coleslaw, about 1dsp of sprouted mixed bean and pulses (this was yesterday's lunch). Followed by half a pear and some of an Organix gingerbread man

4pm Milk feed and a snack like 5 raisins, a cracker and a bit of an Organix cereal bar

6pmish usually a 'handful' of some kind of pasta, potato or rice dish - e.g. Thursday's was rice, tofu, broad beans and humous. Pudding is usually 2dsp of baby rice, 'milk', heaped tsp of ground almonds or (pre-soaked flaked quinoa) and mashed half banana.

7.15pm Milk feed

11.30pm Milk feed (which she's still waking up for)

I love to drop the 4pm feed actually as that would mean I could wear what I want in the day but she still seems to have quite a bit at that feed (maybe less so the last day or so and i guess that might have been more thirst than hunger as it's been hot). I might try giving her the snack and a good drink of water and seeing if she actually asks for the milk feed too at 4pm today.

Afternoon all! You guys talk way too much for me to be able to keep up! Confused

I cheat for curry, memphis and normally use a Masala Masala sauce, because they're delicious. Blush When I have time/inclination I do make from scratch though! Mixing the spices and then normally adding yoghurt or a tin of tomatoes, depending on which curry I'm doing.

But during the week, with both DH and I working, there just isn't time when we get in of an evening. Over this weekend though I am prepping a lot of home made tomato sauce (with other veggies) ready for various dishes. [polishes halo]

For food, M normally eats at nursery for all meals except dinner now. But using the weekend as an example her normal intake is:

7am: A whole weetabix with full fat milk.

10am: 7fl oz milk.

Noon: A bowl of pasta with red pesto and sweetcorn, 6 cherry tomatoes (halved) and most of a muffin with Philadelphia or hummous.

1:30pm: 7fl oz milk.

3pm: Fruit, maybe about 6 big chunks of pineapple or so.

6pm: Whatever we're having! i.e. A bowl full of rice and paneer shahi with petit pois, half of a mini naan bread. Or maybe some sweet potato wedges, some salad leaves with vinegarette dressing, some slices of halloumi cheese and a wrap torn into strips. Dessert is normally a fromage frais, or maybe a chocolate finger. On special occasions she has managed to gum her way through about 1/3rd of a mini Magnum. Blush [Bad Mummy]

7pm: 7fl oz milk.

I'm considering dropping the bottles to 5fl oz though, as she's recently not been finishing the full bottle - especially just before bed. Probably because she's had such a huge dinner!

Chulita · 07/05/2011 14:05

Yesterday S had

4am: milk feed

7am: a weetabix, formula with apple juice, 1/2 pear, 1 banana. ( I do bin a few spoonfuls of cereal most mornings)

11am: 5 breadsticks, 5 mini weetabix

12am: milk feed

2pm: 3 Tuc crackers, finger of homemade flapjack, 10ish raisins, 2 tbsp scrambled egg

5pm: 1/2 bowl lentil/pea soup, green pepper, carrot, pineapple (the veg just got slobbered on but not eaten)

6.30pm milk feed

10pm milk feed

I invited a friend over this afternoon, I thought that since the weather has been so lovely her two older children could play in the garden. It's now raining and I have no idea how to entertain an 8 year old and her 6 year old brother in the house...any thoughts? I thought maybe making biscuits? We've got lots of buttercream icing in the fridge, perhaps that would work to decorate them with. I cba for them to turn up actually so I hope she forgets!

Chulita · 07/05/2011 14:06

cake we have tried cutting things out of her diet. I'd like allergy testing but I don't want her to have a blood test cos she's too precious to have people sticking needles in her Blush so even if they offered (which they haven't) I'd be too scared [big wimp emoticon]

CakeandRoses · 07/05/2011 14:51

Tis interesting reading the different meal/different types of food.

We're just waiting for the park and ride bus into cambridge (literally just missed one as F wet himself in his sleep in the car. Grr) so just giving A some pear, crackers, cream cheese and cucumber to keep her going til lunch which I'm hoping will be falafel wraps from a nice stall there.

spirael what hours are you doing now?

chulita my friend's dd who has/had the terrible eczema and turned out to be allergic to egg had a skin test which I don't think involved needles. I think they just put different things on her arm.

I'm on flexi-time between the limits of 7am and 7pm, Cake. I normally work 8:15am - 4:45pm, however. It's really useful that if I'm running early or late I can shift the hours appropriately, though!

We leave the house at 7:30am and we're all home at about 5:45pm, which gives us an hour to make and eat dinner before bath/bedtime starts at 6:45pm. Confused

DesperateHousewife21 · 07/05/2011 16:59

Dylan eats at different times but

breakfast is at 8:30
lunch is anywhere between 12 and 1
dinner is at 6

he has roughly 3 milk feeds a day sometimes less.
