I liked the CRESH acronym more than FESH so have used it. Welcome all ESH to your final stop on the journey. Rest your aching lady bits, try one of the many gin based cocktails, and try to molest the gorgeous waiting staff.

Cos Feed can last up to an hour from both boobs. Is doing the open mouth - close mouth - pause thing. If not, I take him off & relatch or swap sides. Can hear swallows and he sometimes drools milk. At least 8 feeds a day, maybe more if a cluster night.

AlpinePony · 06/05/2011 18:31

Who the fucking fuckety fuck do you stick your finger up your baybee's nose? Grin

Fast forward a few months and Berwhale's fingers will be well adept at finding your nostrils! Hmm

PerfectDromedary · 06/05/2011 18:39

With the corner of a tissue, Alps. Sounds hilarious.

Muser · 06/05/2011 19:20

Can I ask you an Ergo question Drom? We are finding it difficult to keep the infant insert flat while putting it on. The bottom cushion keeps sticking straight up. How do you do it?

PerfectDromedary · 06/05/2011 19:29

Not sure I entirely know what you mean! Am quite visually challenged. I clip sling round waist, lie insert on sofa, place Berwhale into the insert on his back and essentially with his legs in the air, put one strap over shoulder, cradle the baby and stick him in in sling, pull other strap over shoulder and fasten the back bit, tighten the shoulder straps, lean forward and jiggle the insert about until the sling supports his neck.

Muser · 06/05/2011 19:42

Ah, we've been looking at the video and trying to hold insert up and put carrier on around it. Will try the one shoulder first thing. Basically, the fat bit they sit on, instead of being flush under their bum has been sticking out at 90 degrees. I think because it's hard to hold straight and put straps on. But one arm first might help with that.

Deffo reco a bfc. Tis the way forward.

My new ishoo is that MB now called MonkeyBoy cos he's monkeying around if I feed him anywhere but home! He's faffing and not concentrating and not taking full feeds which then causes probe later on cos he's then wants milk when he should be eating or having a snack. If I put a muslin over him he pulls it off. It's such an arse. Any tips??

CluckyKate · 06/05/2011 20:51

Has your diet changed Drom? Is possible that you're consuming fewer calories so your milk has gone semi-skimmed rather than gold-top IYSWIM....just a thought.

Just to reassure you, LC dropped from 50th to just below the 9th centile (crossing 3 centiles) between 10 & 16 weeks but was otherwise a healthy, happy, active bundle of fun. HV told me to give up breastfeeding....and that was the last she saw of me. At 2 1/2 LC is now on the 25th centile, she packs in a tonne of food and seems to burn it all off (def. doesn't get that from me). So I guess what I'm trying to say is yes, it's good to be vigilant on any sudden weight changes but do temper it with your own intuition as to Berwhale's overall well-being Smile

PollyPoo · 06/05/2011 23:57

I think we are going through the 4 month sleep regression. Meh.

Okiecokie · 07/05/2011 09:52

Totally agree with what cluck says. Don't they have to plateau at some point? Peppa was a heffer on the 91st centile at birth and now is just below the 50th. Some babies follow their line, some adjust. I think you have to trust your own instincts on this one as you know how well and often they feed and you closely inspect the nappy contents this can give a good indication on if things seem right or not. If things don't seem right to you drom then seek help.

All fun and games here. Peppa has ongoing leaky ear and we now have a rather long (20 day) course of antibiotics. She is waking a lot at night and I can't figure whether it is the manky ear or she is ready for grub. She is 6 months this week so I am going to lay out a selction of nicely steamed veg Wink and also shovel some food into her to see if that helps. I am really pleased we have got to 6 months on boob milk alone and we can continue with the medical research she is participating in.

Mini Oke did a pee in the loo today so looks like I will be toilet training and weaning at the same time (bad planning.com)

Thirding Kate and Okie Drom - I know with L and his contemporaries most of them had a period where they massive dropped or rose through the lines. And they are all still here - different sizes, but that's just humans, isn't it? My personal feeling this time is that as long as there are full and wet nappies, E is feeding often, long enough and I can hear swallowing, and she's alert and not showing signs of hunger... it's good enough for me. Obviously if you have any concerns or any of the above isn't happening, I would totally say to seek help. But he was a very big baby when he was born - I think it's quite common for big birthweight babies to drop through the lines a bit.

I also thought the diet - breastmilk quality thing was a myth. As far as I've read, you have to be pretty underweight and malnourished before the quality of your milk starts to suffer. But if there's other evidence out there would be interested to read it.

FannyPriceless · 07/05/2011 17:23

Boo hoo hoo. I just posted something that I foolishly thought was amusing on AIBU and now I am being told I am a hopeless mother! When will I learn? Stay away from AIBU!

drom Bonnie started well above 50th and ended well below 9th. But I don't want to deter you from getting a professional opinion to look into it / settle your mind.

AlpinePony · 07/05/2011 18:09

Hahahahahaha "you deserve bad ham" needs to be etched into the door of CRESH!

CluckyKate · 07/05/2011 20:30

What, you mean I don't need to eat cake to ensure my milk is top notch Cass....please tell me it's not true Grin

Off to peruse AIBU to see what you've been up to FP

PerfectDromedary · 07/05/2011 21:33

My boobs are going to fall off. I have done nothing but feed and then allow him to comfort suck for two days. AND I woke up at 3am to feed a baby who has been sleeping through. My reward? Baby failing to nap all day and having a complete meltdown at bedtime. Rubbish.

Thanks for all the similar experiences. Am off to the bfing support group tomorrow for advice. Will continue to force-feed the poor little mite for the next 11 days as long as boobs will tolerate it.

Off to check AIBU...

Muser · 08/05/2011 07:26

That is rubbish. I hope Berwhale is better today.

KateBob has been suffering with a blocked nose these last few days and her sleep has been all over the place. This may explain why when I finally got her to sleep at 10pm she slept through until 7am. And appears to have fallen back asleep. I'm not sure that's a good idea.

OP posts:
CluckyKate · 08/05/2011 09:34

Your poor boobs Drom Sad. Good luck with the BF folk today - fingers crossed they have some suggestions which help you.

I've found with my two that, weirdly, the more they sleep, the more they sleep Muse. The lad wakes to feed twice in the night (11 & 3) but only takes 10 mins & goes straight back to sleep, he'll be up at 7ish & starts his first nap around 8.

FP that thread is hilarious and am mightily impressed that of all the contents of the trolley Bonnie chooses grapes Grin....that doesn't sound like hopeless parenting to me Grin

Medee · 08/05/2011 10:36

good luck at BF group, Drom.

Cosmosis · 08/05/2011 13:27

Yeah, what you eat won't affect the quality of your milk until you're practically dead of starvation.

Cosmosis · 08/05/2011 15:00

How did you get on today drom? Don't forget that although he's not gaining huge amounts of weight, he's not loosing it, and it may just be that he's been concentrating on growing longer rather than fatter for a bit.

PerfectDromedary · 08/05/2011 15:41

Latch fine. Weight gain is what it is - definitely keep an eye on, but no need to panic. Every two hours and adding back in the 3am feed for a bit should up supply and get more into him.

The only thing I'm worried about with every two hours - how does he get any time to play or sleep in the day? Saying that, he's asleep on me atm, so I shouldn't worry.

Cosmosis · 08/05/2011 16:02

don't worry, he'll get plenty of time to do other things :)

Muser · 08/05/2011 17:43

Glad it went ok Drom, the 2 hourly feeding does sound tough but hopefully will get him back on track. I wonder if I'll end up doing the same if there isn't better weight gain when I take her next.

Things are all a bit weird here. With being ill her sleep at night has been different every night. From waking every 2-3 hours to last night's 10pm-7am straight through record. I think she wants to start going to bed earlier but hasn't quite figured out how to as we've had massive screaming fits at 8pm. So tonight is all about trying to help her.

OP posts:
PerfectDromedary · 08/05/2011 18:13

We had an overtired screaming fit last night. I ended up feeding him in the bedroom in the dark to calm him down, putting him down in the cot, draping myself over him & shushing until he was calm and then leaving him awake but calm in the dark. First time he's gone to bed before us...It felt very bizarre.

Muser · 08/05/2011 18:17

I've discovered a quick walk in the pram cures the overtired screaming fits well. Up and down the street a few times, she was completely silent and calmed down enough to fall asleep fairly quickly when returning home. I think it helps calm me as well which probably helps.

I know what you mean about it feeling odd when they go to bed before you. The one night she went down at 8pm we just sat there in confusion.
