Thanks Karma, that's helpful. I only ever bought maternity clothes while preg though, because I didn't want any enticement to NOT go back to my weight, so I guess that means I might have to wear my maternity clothes another 5 mths

I'm having a bit of trouble trying to figure out when to put ds down for naps, as easily gets iverstimulated/tired, but too soon, cries from boredom and doesn't sleep at night! But here's a guide to how much sleep they're supposed to get on BW site, would be interested to know if it's true or not!

Papillon · 05/12/2005 08:07

Papillon · 05/12/2005 11:34

thats fuuny Londoner, after talking to u on other thread I see your dd and my dd share the same birth date.

She is 29.10.2003 and was 2.9kg

btw do you write?

Papillon · 05/12/2005 11:40

thats converts tp 6.4 ozs

My ds online is Tigermoth and he came at 38 weeks and weighed 2.4kg = 5.3 ozs. He is 10 days old and now 2.8 kg (6.2oz) - so doing REALLY well

here was my BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT

tessasmum · 05/12/2005 12:28

Yippee!!! Just expressed for first time this time round as boob was bursting and little man is fast asleep and got 4oz
It took me about 3 weeks to build up to that much last time!!

Still enough in there for when he wakes up and Tessa was absolutely fascinated. She breastfeeds her 'baby' so I've a feeling she will be expressing soon too

novabrandybutterpowder · 05/12/2005 12:38

I'm still up for tomorrow Jenjam - are you out there Golden? If we don't hear from you, I'll try texting/calling. Is LilJ still around, my guess is that she's having/had her baby, but if not she might want to join us.

Well, the obvious one would be JingleJam, but I know Diddle has used Jingle.. hmm..I'll get my thinking cap on...

Nat is awake for about 8 hours a day, and I still wonder if she's getting too much sleep. Trying to work on making her go longer at night between feeds as she's still waking up every 3 hours.

Had horrible dream last night that DH was no longer interested in me, left me feeling like it had really happened when I woke up . Has left me feeling very fragile today, keep feeling like I'm going to cry and the simplest things on the telly.

Jen/Nova - I'm on for tomorrow, 12:30, Giraffe, Essex Rd, N1.

Whoever gets there first can you bag seats/table near the front, can't get the double buggy past the first row of tables!

RodeHoHoHo · 05/12/2005 13:44

Ahhh, What a lovely long list, only 3 more babie's to put on it isn't there? Chacha, Lil and Kristina...Please tell me if I've missed anyone off...

Papillon - FAB birth story! Just read it and your boy sounds wonderful. Fancy the consultant saying he was a boy! What a shock it must have been! A lovely one though

Busy - Sorry about the confusing nipple healing advice, I was told to keep mine covered and covered in the lanolin stuff by my MW and it did work (and mine were terrible!!)

Londoner/Beartime - I sometimes rinse them before they go in the wash, but newborn poo isn't that offensive so usually just chuck them in the nappy wash. I only use them when she's got a sore bum (she get's those open blister looking sore bits) but they do work like magic! I've only got 3 so they work really quickly too (3 nappy changes!)

Been to visit my BF this morning, her baby looks so teeny compared to Jess! She's very gorgeous and pretty with lovely long arms and legs (another supermodel baby Nova and Londoner!) and has beautiful perfect jaundice tinged skin!

Jess keeps gauging at her face and pulling her own hair (!) when she get's upset, which obviously makes her worse the daft thing. Anyone else's do this?!

Hope we hear from chacha soon! Wonder if she had a section? Have we all managed to avoid emergency sections so far??

RodeHoHoHo · 05/12/2005 13:46

Sorry meant 'fancy the consultant saying he was a girl, if he'd said boy he would have been correct.....

RodeHoHoHo · 05/12/2005 14:06

BTW, my Bfriend told me today that she when she had her baby (last Thurs) they didn't cut the cord until she'd delivered the placenta (at her request) and they cut it when it stopped pulsating so the baby received most of the 'cord blood' which is really good apparently. Never heard of it before (and I thought I was quite clued up). Just wondered if any of you had done that too?

Papillon · 05/12/2005 14:14

Anyone keeping the placenta. We bury our babies placentas at the place that my dh´s family is registered.

I have kept his cord that fell off yesterday also.... I am such a witch

Tigermoth slept last night so well... and sleep brilliantly during the day. We co-sleep. I found this quite hard with dd (2 years old) but seem to have evolved into it much better this time round. He seems to sleep better when he is very cosy and right next to me all night.

After an emergency C-Section (arrived at hospital 6cm dilated and baby Transverse, sideways) I cannot be ar§ed with putting him the Germanic style wicker baby bed on wheels that I have for him. His mattress is filled with Barley... made it myself

He will start using it eventually more during the day I suppose. atm we are very happy with our tribal bed. Tigermoth slept I think about 6 hours straight last night! I woke feeling GREAT. And he is the smallest of the babies here!!!

Can you tell I am a co-sleeping advocate

Anybody going to use a Sling? If you are interested I have alot of experience with these and I tell you they are of great benefit to the child and yourself.

tessasmum · 05/12/2005 14:17

I had wanted to do that as part of a physiological 3rd stage but by the time I'd turned round the damn midwife had clamped the cord
Think they clamp straight away it as a matter of course and I hadn't told them not too. Also they wanted to get cord blood to test as I'm Rhesus -ve and they have to check what baby is in case I needed more Anti-D, which I did.
Rest of the experience was so great that I will forgive them

RodeHoHoHo · 05/12/2005 14:37

I gave my placenta away for medical research

RodeHoHoHo · 05/12/2005 14:40

Papillon - It's very refreshing to have a co-sleeping advocate on here!! Most of us have been doing it (although a little guiltily)

Papillon · 05/12/2005 14:52

Nothing to be bloody guilty about!! (cuse me I am a Kiwi and we love to cuss )

Co-Sleeping bets having to get out of bed and walk to the cot any day of the week imo!!!

My sister put her kids in another room right from day 1... it would kill me and I would hate it and miss them dreadfully... all alone. As I said I found it abit hard the first time around... but this time it is better cos I am more confident and know its what I want.

sarahsausage · 05/12/2005 16:39

ohKARMAallyefaithfulMOTHER · 05/12/2005 18:54

Hi all.

Feel like I've been run over by a bus today due to zero sleep last night. Had a particularly fraught 2.5 hours from 04.30am which culminated in me crying my eyes out cos I was sooo tired. I left DP to sleep in the spare room as he was back to work today but I could have done with a hand with winding her.

Had a good chat with MW today (who is actually rather brilliant) & she came up with some helpful tips. I was quite busy yesterday & didn't have enough to eat so my supply might have dipped a bit. Also, she said baby's often have a growth spurt between 10-15 days old. Did anyone else's baby go through this? I thought it happened at 3 wks??

Also, now doing what I vowed I wouldn't. I've let her sleep on my lap for the last 2 hours. Isn't it funny how they sleep so soundly there but move them to the moses basket & PING! They're awake! Trying not to get too upset about this & just enjoying holding her.

Rodeo, I did a lot of research on delayed cord clamping & physiological third stage on here & it was in my birth plan. Sadly, due to meconium stained liquor, I was induced so I couldn't have the latter. I asked for delayed cord clamping but the darn thing was too short. I couldn't get her up onto my chest so it had to be cut. If you're still interested in it (for a possible future birth???) I can post a really good link about it.

Papillon, I co-slept with my ds. Wasn't planned & I did feel guilty too until I read "Three in a bed" by Deborah Harris. It was convenient for me & ds as it enabled us to get more sleep. Also, ex-hubby & I were no longer sleeping together so there was lots of room! This time round, I have a very loving (& large) DP so I don't think I'll be co-sleeping. In the basket right next to the bed works for us.

Wel, off to refuel. Funny, I seem to have less appetite than when I was PG. And I've ran out of chocolate.

novabrandybutterpowder · 05/12/2005 19:21

ooo Karma, don't things just seem 100 times worse at that hour of the morning too?

Add me to the list of guilty co-sleepers, she goes down in her basket to begin with but I find she sleeps so much longer if she's in bed with me. Usually end up bringing her in in the early hours so that I can get some kip.

Same in the day, although I'm trying to get her used to being put down for at least some of the time or it's hard to get things done.

Agree that sling/papoose is a great idea. I like keeping her near and she likes being there

ohKARMAallyefaithfulMOTHER · 05/12/2005 19:33

I almost considered taking her out in the car for a drive, just to get her to sleep.

Rodeo, I've posted some links on your thread about cord blood. I especially liked the Michel Odent one. I know he's not to everyone's taste but he makes it sound so lovely. It's nice to make the most of all that wonderful oxytocin in your system.

goldenoldie · 05/12/2005 20:18

Hi Karma - see my DH is not the only one sleeping in a spare room!

RodeHoHoHo · 05/12/2005 20:37

Thanks so much for the links Karma, will read them when madam gives me a chance Hope you have a better night tonight, Nova's right, it does seem so much worse in the dark. And you're not the only one crying from tiredness - I did it too last night ! It was only 11pm but Jess kept crying and I just wanted to GO TO BED!!

Back to cords and placentas, what is a physiological 3rd stage? Really interesting stuff although I am not having another but may impose my childbirth views in the future on my sister

You're right Papillon, there is nothing to be guilty about! You set us all a good example - with your relaxed Kiwi traits

Sorry Sarah, will correct Lotties birthday asap! looking forward to the birth story

Has anyone got any baby piccies for me to gaze at??

JenJam · 05/12/2005 21:08
