sorry, FEEL a bit giddy. Must read through these now that my brain is completely addled.

novabrandybutterpowder · 30/11/2005 13:15

off to post natal group so will post more later..

rodehohoho definitly better! DH was playing with nat yesterday and she smiled, but we're still not sure if it's wind or if she really is smiling. i keep grinning at her like a loon!

RodeHoHoHo · 30/11/2005 19:09

Wow all these brill sleepers! Can you send some of what they're having this way please?! Actually she's doing not too bad lately, she's going 4 hours at night from about 10pm onwards. Although fell asleep feeding her last night and woke up with her in my arms with my neck bent over the wooden headboard, how comfy!

Had her 6 week check today. She's now 10lb4oz and because she was born 4 weeks early her place on the graphs is put back which places her on the 91st centile! When actually she's the same size as Bella was at that age. They're actually pretty identical - twins born 6 years apart!!

Oh Karma! Such class and glamour I'm on a Galaxy Ripple a day and I have a panic attack if I've not got at least 2 in the cupboard. That's 7 a week and she's 7 weeks old (hmmm, that's 50) Plus on my 'down' days I may have 2 (60ish) and I was having them while I was still pregnant. So all in all I think I should be getting some kind of loyalty reward soon....

Right off to tuck children into bed. Advent calenders tomorrow, yay!

Rodeo - I'm sure Nat must have caught up with Jess now, we haven't had her weighed this week but she's chunked out all of a sudden and is quite heavy to hold now (was 9.9 last friday so I reckon about 10lb at least now). The original HV who came to see her backdated her weight on the chart, but the most recent HV said because 37wks was considered full term there was no need to back date it, so she's jumped across all the centiles!

She had her BCG jab today, and was very well behaved, just a little cry

She is most definately not a brill sleeper!!!

Covered baby first aid in class today, it was very useful..

Had my physio check and the good news is my tummy muscles are all knitted back together so I can start to exercise again (just need to find the time and energy - lol!)

And my hands are sooo dry...

Londoner · 01/12/2005 09:24

Hellooooo ladies & babies!

OMG.... it's December already!!
I have done, wait 4 it..... no Xmas shopping...... how can I think about shopping? All I can think about is the baby! My attention span for anything else is drastically diminished (not including the rest of my family of course..)..... I just feel so laid back everything else just doesn't seem important IYSWIM? Do you think I'm sad?
nova, how did you get on after Natalie's BCG? Did she have a temperature or anthing last night?

RodeHoHoHo · 01/12/2005 09:25

My BF had her baby this morning at 4am! She was due on 29th Nov so only 2 days late, although her ds was 2 weeks early so we all expected the same this time round! It's been so hard not to pester her! Well anyway she had a girl, Isabella Holly, 8lb8oz Looking forward to seeing them both!

Exercise Nova?! Don't mention that word here Actually I losta stone pre-preg doing a very old (retro 80's!) Jane Fonda video, video's broken now though and you can't get them on DVD. Never mind!

Off to toddler group this morning, so must get ready, see you girls later!

goldenoldie · 01/12/2005 11:09

Who mentioned losing weight? I've got three stones to lose before I go back to work - eek! Can't afford to buy a whole new 'business' wardrobe, so I need to drop those dress sizes.

Thinking about a personal trainer - have any of you used one before?

What about weightwatchers - anyone done that as well?

Londoner · 01/12/2005 12:30

rodeho, how lovely to have a best friend with a baby at the same time, you lucky things! Lol at the Jane Fonda workout... I did that at sc hool in PE, lol..... I can still hear Ms. Fonda "....make it burn!..." now (to soundtrack "can you feel it, can you feel it..') ouch!
Exercise nova? Isn't rocking round the living room with a colicky baby for 5 hours each evening enough? Actually , I'm v. impressed by you.... I thought it was only the cartoon woman in the post-natal leaflets who did those .....

Londoner · 01/12/2005 12:57

golden when do you go back to work? Are u brest or bottle feeding? Just wondering as I know that I don't loose all my pregnancy fat until after finishing bf as body needs back up fat resources to draw from...... sounds like you're being v. hard on yourself BTW! Give yourself a minute!

Londoner · 01/12/2005 13:03

Golden.. know a few people who swear by 'WeightWatchers' but no personal experience, find running round picking up pants & socks for family does the trick....even though I have a penchant for packets of 'homewheat'!

ohKARMAallyefaithfulMOTHER · 01/12/2005 14:31

Goldenoldie, have you thought of Slimming World? You get to eat larger amounts than WW. I've done it a few times & lost weight easily, but I am a bit of a glutton.

Nova, I take my hat off to you! But then again, looking like Uma Thurman you can always dance around the house in a Pulp Fiction kind of way.

Actually, I feel rather smug as I did my abdominal exercises this morning. I've been doing the old pelvic floor ones quite a bit as I refuse to end up with stress incontinence like my friend. Might try the "stop/start" weeing later to see how I'm doing.(TMI?)

Busyalexsmummy · 01/12/2005 15:14

Things not too bad here, alfie is pretty good so far, sleeps about 5 hrs at night!!! Alex loves him to bits and is all over him, although still very rough! hes constantly kissing him and wanting to hold him and keeps running off with alfies hat/mitts/socks!!
Feeding is going ok, although he keeps pulling off without letting go, so I now have nice scabby nipples(ewwww!) and boobs that feel like their on fire!!
Feel ok, slightly depressed, but i think thats because of the weather and the fact theres not alot to do/anywhere to go, everyone seems to be staying away too, we've not really had any visitors or phonecalls which is bizzarre as we were inundated with calls/cards/visitors when alex was born, so it seems a bit weird at the moment.

birth went really well, started contractions 8pm saturday night(dp was out watching rugby and came back p*ssed right up at 9.40pm!!!??!-at which point i sent him straight to bed to sober up) and decided at 6am sunday that it was getting a bit much so took alex off to robs aunties house and rang MIL to say it was all go. she arrived about 7.30am and we set off for hossie, it was really cold and foggy and lots of black ice on the road so it took us about 1hr to get there, I had a VE and was told i was 4-5cm dilated.Put tens on and went off for a walk and breakfast then back to check progress, still the same so decided to go into town shopping(!?!) walked around town whilst contractions were 4 mins apart(very surreal)-you should of seen the peoples faces in the lift in the car park when i was contracting-they got out that lift quicker than their legs could carry them! lol!!!

got back to hossie, and after a hour or two, got into birthing pool and commenced gas and air(i love that stuff!!) sat in pool watching telly!!
Anyhow, alfie was born 6.18pm, after only pushing for about 15mins(not like 1hr40mins with alex!-thankgod)
I feel human as I managed to get away without stitches-YAY!!! It was a better experience than with Alex, but really not sure I'll ever want to do it again!

Liz x Alfie 4days old!

RodeHoHoHo · 01/12/2005 15:20

My mad friend is on a diet where you have special milkshakes and have to get your body to go into 'Ketosis' whatever that is. It' doesn't sound particularly healthy though, although she has lost 4 stone...

Londoner, no your not mad, that's a great state to be in. I am also in that state but have been letting things (like paying bills) slip, which isn't so good! Keep getting bloody late payment fees and red letters, oops! Must get more organised!

Bought all the childrens pressies though the other day and have done a present list for the family, but it's huge!

Right school run calls

beartime · 01/12/2005 16:06

Golden, I love weightwatchers - and DH lost more than 5 stone on it, and kept it off. The key I found is making sure you stick to the points with no cheating, and making it a treat to look for low fat stuff in Tesco, also having LOTS of no point veggies with every meal.

Busy, your labour sounds great. i should have done that distraction thing - that's one of the things I hated, sitting in the living room contracting with DH and midwife just sitting there (and of course helping during contractions) in dead silence! - should have watched a film or something!

Is anyone else constantly swinging between what they do with their baby?! One minute I demand feed, then BW, then GF, then Grandma's 4-hrly, and can't bear the thought of telling DH I've changed again! Was doing GF now going to switch again i think but not sure what to! Anyone do a 4hrly? I did every 3 hrs to begin with, but then had to wake him up everytime, so went longer which was fine. My Grandma had 5 kids and breastfed for 9 mths with all of them, and swears by the old 6, 10, 2, 6 and 10 routine - which I know everyone raises their eyebrows at now! Cos baby was big at birth I wonder if that means he can go longer...

beartime · 01/12/2005 17:40

Ds has been crying ALL day today! He's hardly slept a wink! Wot did I do wrong! I ate lasagne yesterday with lots of spinach and mushrooms and aubergine in and I know I had lots of wind - maybe it passed on...??

goldenoldie · 01/12/2005 21:40

Hi Londoner - I'm due back at work next June. I'm breast and bottle feeding. The boys empty a breast first and then get a bottle too.

Karma - I will have a look at slimming world too - not sure where my local meet is tho?

Beartime - thanx for the tip re: veggies. Re: routine - I'm doing 3/4 hourly feeding which works most of the time, but it is virtually impossible to wake a sleeping baby. Trying to keep both boys on the same schedule - this works most days too.

beartime · 02/12/2005 05:50

I forgot to say about weightwatchers that I never went to a meeting, cos I didn't feel like it, so I did that at home version - just pay an amount and get the stuff and then do it yourself, and DH did the same.

Londoner · 02/12/2005 08:26

????????????BABY ON IT'S WAY ALERT?????????????????

ChaCha's post from 4am today.......

twinkle1 · 02/12/2005 10:48

Wish i could win the lottery so we could give up work!!!!! joshua's nightime sleeping swings between quite good 5hrs to foul 1hr between feeds.I just wish he would be a bit more predictable. Its hard cos dh needs his sleep as he gets up for work at 5am everyday
well enough moaning, think i will go and try to stack the dishwasher while josh takes a nap!!

novabrandybutterpowder · 02/12/2005 11:10

Golden - my friend does WW and it works for her. DH used to have a personal trainer and lost loads but then did his back in so stopped, and gained it all back! Surely the twins must be like mini personal trainers

Met up with someone I used to work with yesterday and she told me she was 9wks pg. I got far too over excited at this news - lol. Told her she HAD to sign up to MN.

Drove to sot'on to see a friend yesterday, but the conditions were hellish, got so scared of crashing with DD in the back . Was quite funny when i got there though, her baby woke up while she was cooking dinner, so we both ended up eating burnt sausages, over pureed mash, and under cooked cabbage with one hand whilst trying to pacify a crying baby in the other!

Beartime, try not to change your routine too many times, it may end up confusing your baby. Trust your own instinct as a mother, you know your baby better than anyone

Nat was a little unsettled after her BCG, was sick after feeding a few times which is quite unusual, but she was fine the next day.

I'm about to put her first lot of clothes into storage - she's getting big!!!

beartime · 02/12/2005 21:45

Golden thanks for telling me ur routine, helps to know what others do.

Twinkle - has your DH tried earplugs - mine wears them and never even hears baby in the night! Of course it probably helps that baby is in other room with door shut, and I feed in the other room too!

Nova - I know ur right about not chnaging it just seems that wgatever I do doesn't work tgat well so I try something else. Maybe I just read too much - I don't even know what my instincts are! Also whatever I do there'll be some book saying it's wrong, which makes me unconfident! Maybew I should burn all the books (and the internet) so I can rediscover the instinct

novabrandybutterpowder · 02/12/2005 22:37

Yay to burning books Beartime, just remember they are only there as a guide - and I think the fact that even the books disagree with each other proves that there is no one right way of doing things . Also worth bearing in mind that a routine/system takes a week or two to start being effective, so it may just be that you haven't given it long enough.

Just make sure you're taking the time to enjoy your baby

Very excited as Nat is now almost big enough to fit into some of the really lovely clothes we've been given as presents, can't wait to dress her up like a proper little girl.

She was awake all the way through Gymboree today, and was quite responsive, another huge achievement

Laylasmum · 02/12/2005 22:43

Hi Rodeo love the xmassy name can't really change mine though!!

where are twinkle and diege meeting up?

whereaboutd are you it would be great to meet up soon!

Seths growing soooo fast he weighrd 10lb 2oz last week so must be getting something out of my boobs despite feeding hourly some days leading to " you're starving that boy" remarks from my MIL!!!

Don't know if i'll ever get him in a routine though....

no news from cha cha yet!!!

beartime · 03/12/2005 06:20

Hey it's working - I'm trying to make a real effort to think, 'hang the books...what do I think' - and there are really some thoughts down there - thanks Nova

Ds fed 10pm last night, and at 6am this morning grin]

Busyalexsmummy · 03/12/2005 06:26

morning all, just been up feeding Alfie since 5am and cant get back to bloomin sleep!
Cant believe he goes for so long for a breastfed baby, alex was a 3hrly feeder-and he was bottlefed, alfie goes 4-5hours between each feed!
Have managed to pump off a good 5oz which I stuck in the freezer and am hoping to pump more off during today so that I can have a good drink tonight as its my 21st on sunday! We were going out for a meal, but dont really fancy that now, as that was planned with the thought that alfie would be at least a couple of weeks old, dont really want to leave him with anyone else yet, especially with how the feedings going.
Am having to express and do partial breast and partial syringe feeds at the moment, he keeps messing, sometimes he will latch on ok, sometimes he wont, sometimes hes ok if I pump some off first then offer breast as I think he has difficulty latching due to engorgement and also partialy flat nipples
How long do other breastfed babies feed for? alfie only feeds for 5-10mins each feed, maximum 20mins, which is shocking seeing as though he goes so long in between feeds...
Ever since our first night back he pulled off my left nipple whilst i wasnt concentrating and its still sore now, its teeth-gritting when i feed but apart from applying lasinsoh after each feed, what else can i do?

Am dreading next week in some ways and not in others, dp goes back to work, which is kind of good as we've been bickering at each other loads(i think he forgets i only had a baby 6 days ago)
But am dreading what its going to be like looking after 2 children on my own especially as the weather is soooooo cr*p and you cant really go anywhere.

right off to do some ebaying!
