Thanks, Londoner for doing that for me. Have to go as she is needing her lurve juice (BF!)

novadandypowder · 27/11/2005 01:19

Hello ladies, no I'm not up with wakeful child - I've been to the MN xmas dinner

Rodeo - Thomcat looked beautiful tonight, and was strutting her stuff on the dance floor! If you squint in the dark, she might look a bit like me...

Didn't meet flum or cod, but did meet coathanger, essbee, and sophable who were great fun, as were many others who I forget . Custardo did a wonderful job of organising it, and I don't think the rest of the customers in the restaurant knew what had hit them!!!

Diege, DH makes me laugh, he does two of the nights out of seven, I do the other five, but after the first night he's always 'I'm so tired/ I need to go back to bed/ I need a nap/ etc etc', and I'm there thinking 'yeah? Now multiply that by 5..'

Diege · 27/11/2005 09:21

Morning everyone! Feeling much better today after a rather weepy one yeaterday! Thanks for all your supportive comments re: DH and his naps - made me feel quite tearful that you are all so nice . DH has been suitably reprimanded, and I have been reimbursed materially with lots of chocs, DCs and books. Haviung said that, then felt guilty (I made some crack that I may as well be a single parent - ouch ), so suggested he go up for a sleep, even though he was saying I should. We'll laugh about this in a few weeks, but it's odd how everything seems heightened post-birth. Was even jealous when he said he'd had a bad dream (dream!!!you had a dream!!Chance would be a fine thing . )
Londoner: you seem so 'sorted' in how you look at the world - one day I might be like you! .
Nova: glad the mumsnet dinner went well - I imagine you look like Uma Thurmon in that film where she had the black bob! Well done on getting out in the evening! LOL re: your DH!! What is it with them!
And big congrats to Karma and Alice - what a great birth story Karma .
TWINKLE: I'm pretty flexible re: a day to meet up, aprt from Wednesdays. I could put Libby in a sling and get on the train to Piccadily, but let me know, as you may need a few more weeks yet with Joshua being so new ? (or may be itching to get out? - I'm getting to the stage wqhen I need the shops again - quite sad really!)

Diege · 27/11/2005 09:28

Rodeo - hope you had a better night last night I have a clue as to how DH/DP's sleep through it, as found two disgusting pieces of toilet roll, screwed up as ear plugs with ear wax on end, discarded on floor ..I suppose you have to admire this foresight, but I can't help revcersing the situation. I remember with dd2 I satrted to have a fantasy about booking into a travel lodge (on my own!!)

alicemama · 27/11/2005 12:26

Afternoon Ladies & babes,

Nice to hear everyone & the lil ones are doing well.
Thought I'd finally tell you all how my labour and delivery went.

Woke up at around 7am fri morning with contractions every 7-8 mins but felt fine really so came downstairs, put tens on and left dh in bed. Dh woke up at around 9.45am and was mortified to see I had my tens on and told me off for not waking him. But I didn't really think anything would happen for hours. Rang the birth centre to make dh feel better and decided to get dressed and make our way over just in case as it's a 30 min journey.
Well by the time we got there at 11.20am my contractions were every 3-4 mins and getting very strong. Midwife examined me and I was 8cms dilated so started running the jacuzzi tub and the birthing pool ready for me to get in.
By now it was about 12.00 and contractions suddenly got very very intense and leaned over back of the bed and before I knew it I was pushing and Amelia was born 18 mins later.
She came out lovely and clean and dh cut the cord which amazed me as he swore he never would be able to.
we then just sat and had a cuddle for 20mins without being disturbed which was lovely. Then me and Amelia both got in the bath together and midwife brought me and dh tea & biscuits while they dried and dressed Amelia.
It was so wonderful, didn't even tear at all.

After having a 17hr labour first time round with pethidine, gas & air, episiotomy and stitches and terrible memories, This time it couldn't have been more perfect even tho I didn't get to use the pool and only 5hrs from beginning to end!
And I couldn't recommend the birth centre enough it was wonderful, so much more relaxing than the hospital.

Better go and do dd1 some dinner and the feed Amelia, she's def a guts like her big sister!

Londoner · 27/11/2005 13:36

Hellooooo!

First of all....nova, you dirty stop-out!....glad to hear u had a great night out, where do you get all your energy from woman?
LOL at your 'poor tired' dp!.........Men eh?!
Diege....you are spoiling me with your chocolates! I mean compliments. Thank you! Very glad to hear you're feeling better today although weepy is good too sometimes IMO, very cleansing.....and makes you feel stronger in the end as you feel a bit better afterwards? Which part of the world are you in BTW? LOL at your dH's ear protecting tactics! Outrageous! lol
alice, what a fantastic birth story...well done you!
Took Elizabeth to be registered on Friday...it was freezing outside and had to get the bus home as I don't drive .....but we made it in the end and I explained to Elizabeth that she was now a real citizen! when we got home, she's so sweet!

flutterbee · 27/11/2005 15:04

Hi Ladies,

Hope you don't mind me crashing your thread (again) if you remember I wasn't due till 18/12/05 but George decided to come 5 and a half weeks early so I am hanging around waiting for some more of the December ladies to pop!. Just wanting some advice really George is now just over 2 weeks old and has managed to pick up my horrible cold he really is bunged up sniffling and sneezing has anyone any ideas how to relieve it a bit for him as I don't think I will be able to use anything from the chemist yet as he is so young, any suggestions would be greatly recieved.
Hope all your babies are fighting fit

Londoner · 27/11/2005 15:43

Hi flutterbee, you're welcome here anytime... the more the merrier! Congratulations on the birth of baby George, how is everything... stinky cold aside of course?
I'm sorry to hear he's all bunged up, I know how difficult it is listening to them trying to eat and breath at the same time, you poor things . Have you asked your GP for advice yet? Def give them a call if not for advice which they give over the phone now I believe, v. helpful. Other than that, my recommendation would be to have a steaming bowl of water near his bed with a few drops of tea tree oil/eucalyptus/ peppermint/lavender in, or nearby when he's feeding..... but mind you don't scald yourself.... hopefully this could loosen up things a bit. Hope that may be of some help, it's what I do with mine..... apart from that just lots of cuddles, which I'm sure he's getting lots of anyway and perhaps prop his bed up on a few books at the head end?

Good luck, let us know how you get on.....

ohKARMAallyefaithfulMOTHER · 27/11/2005 20:50

Hi all.

Just a quickie as I'm heading off to bed as DP is out wetting the baby's head right now. Lucky bugger!
Congrats to Alicemamma. That sounds like the perfect birth. Well done & what a gorgeous name!

Well, sleep is in short supply here as she is sticking to the pattern she adopted in utero so I'm trying to catch up when I can. I'm trying to put her down whilst she's awake so she gets used to falling asleep unaided but its very difficult when all you want to do is nuzzle them into your neck & hold them.

Also, currently dealing with large leaky boobs which I have christened my LMPs. They're my Lovely Milky Pillows from now on. If DP's snoring tonight keeps me awake then I've decided to fill his sleeping gob with milk. Just for the fun of it, really.

Catch up with you all soon.

tessasmum · 27/11/2005 21:27

Congratulations to Sharon, Karma and Alicemama - 3 more little November bundles!

Alicemama - so glad that your birth was so positive, you certainly deserved it after all the c**p you were given a few weeks ago

Karma - well done keeping GD so well under control that all was fine with baby Ella. When can you hit the cakes and chocolate again? Love the Milky Pillows idea, may nick it as mine still haven't calmed down - Ash is scoffing like a demon and putting on weight at an alarming rate so I can't complain

Can anyone remember when tiny babies have growth spurts? I know one is at about 10 days but think there are supposed to be at least 2 others. Hoping one is at about 3 weeks as someone has been feeding every 2 hours since yesterday evening. Bit of a shock as he had managed at least one 4 hour stint the previous 2 nights!

Right boobs required AGAIN. Night all!

Diege · 27/11/2005 21:57

Glad to hear everyone is well, and that the babies are thriving! Off for the 10 o clock now, so just gearing up for night shift - have just woken up from sofa fest, on Liberty's sheepskin rug - those things are amazing!
Flutterbea - you might also find it useful to raise the head of the cot/moses basket with a book or two (they sell special 'raisers' you can slot the legs into from JOJo Maman bebe).
Londoner: I'm from Warrington in Cheshire, though orginally come from North Wales. Yes, felt much better after my 'purging' yesterday. Suffered from mild PND with dd2 that was monitored by Health Visitor, but seemed to resolve itself within 6 months or so, so just mindful of weepiness a little .
Right, off to heat the bottle (I admit it, I am a microwave fiend - I know, 'hot spots', but I give it a damn good shake and test it to death!! [blush - bad mummy!!!].

novadandypowder · 27/11/2005 22:05

Think a growth spurt is at 6 wks as Natalie has suddenly gone back to waking every 2-3 hours at night after a pretty good run that involved some 4-5 hour gaps. Ho hum..

Flutterbee - I've seen it suggested that you put the baby in a steamy bathroom to help clear their noses, and I've just got some saline drops from the pharmacy for Natalie and she's only 6wks. In fact a pharmacist may be the best person to ask for advice.

Diege - someone actually said last night that they thought i looked like Uma in Pulp Fiction. DH and I did the dance from Pulp Fiction as the first dance at our wedding, it was great fun.

Londoner - my energy is to be found in the bottom of a red bull can!

Diege · 28/11/2005 08:46

Wow Nova, I think Libby and Natalie must be communicating in some way, as Libby was doing the 2 hour thing last night (fed at 10, then waking 12.00, then 2.30, then 4, then 6...draining!!). If it's any consolation, my health visitor says they go through 3 weekly growth spurts, so that's 6 weeks for you, 3 weeks for me?
On the cranberry juice today as I have a nasty urine infection, and have vowed from today that I'm hoping to start eating more healthily. After all, what we are doing is a major physical and mental challenge, and I think my body needs more than custard creams and diet coke! Hard when your body is crying out for sugar though!

harpsichordcarrier · 28/11/2005 09:28

hello ladies
how are you all? today is my first day on my own with the two dds... mildly daunted by how I am going to manage. thank god for cbeebies eh.

But it does mean that I can get back on the pc without dh giving me a Look...
Annabel has got into the habit of yelling her head off from 8pm to 1am. I am hoping (praying)it is just a phase.

better try and get in the shower I think. Will try and catch up with the thread later.

novadandypowder · 28/11/2005 10:07

oh no Diege - don't say I have to go through this every 3 weeks!!!

Londoner · 28/11/2005 10:26

Good Morning!

It's my Birthday today,YAAAAAAAY! I love Birthdays!
"Happy Birthday to me,
Happy Birthday to me,
la la la la la etc.."

karma, I'm full of admiration at you putting Ella in her bed when she's still awake so she learns to settle herself easily, it worked really well for me with dd1....can't seem to do it with this monkey though as she needs quite a bit of winding otherwise her feeds just come straight back at me...and after a nice winding Elizabeth has of course drifted into a blissful sleep....ah well, I have 2 confess to enjoying all the extra cuddles! This is one cuddly baby! BTW I'm with you on sleeping when the baby sleeps, it's the only way to cope with the situation and keep your energy up isn't it?
tessa can't remember when the growth spurts are, but last week Elizabeth was very hungry & did stay up later/sleep less and she now seems really sleepy & contented on much less milk...she's 4 weeks now....so that would fit in with the 3 week theory....
Diege I sleep on a sheepskin rug too, given 2 us 4 ds1 I find it helps me sleep so comfortably, glad you've cottoned on we deserve looking after too. Glad u feel a bit better now, it's good to hear you're so aware and looking out for yourself after suffering pnd with dd2.
nova ah, red bull's your secret, caffeine junky huh? Actually I think you're just naturally perky and super-dooper anyway.... it's really nice and lovely 2 hear about all your antics....
harps, hi, good luck today....I'm sure you will be just fine...
lol at you being able to post without being 'watched'!lol! Same here....
How old is Annabel? Is she colicky(sp?)? Screaming from 8pm-1am sounds like classic colicky baby stuff to me....it will end Hang in there!

twinkle1 · 28/11/2005 10:38

morning all,
FLUTERBEE you can try putting a wet/damp towel on warm radiator as it moistens air in the room and helps with breathing, also if you are b/feeding and stuffy nose makes it dificult to latch baby on you can get saline nose drops from gp/HV these clear nose, hope this helps
DIEGE let me know a few dates and i can take the train to picaddily as i will not be able to drive till after xmas
HAPPY BIRTHDAY londoner
well we woke up to a layer of snow this morning children very happy and it has snowed constantly since then so we now have quite a bit of snow!!! kids will be wanting to go sledging after school know doubt anyone else got snow??????Im stuck in waiting for the midwife at the min,no doubt she will be running late with all the snow!!
DH go's back to work on fri im not looking forward to it feeling nervous and i will miss him never mind he will be off for xmas soon
well i should go,
Twinkle & Joshua

harpsichordcarrier · 28/11/2005 10:48

happy birthday!
Annabel is fifteen days how did that happen?
yes I think it is colic, dd1 had it too but it was a lot easier because it was a beautiful warm summer and I could take her for a walk in the pushchair to soothe her. bit too parky for that...
was thinking about a sheepskin - what does everyone else find useful?

Diege · 28/11/2005 11:18

Happy birthday Londoner - hope you get lots of treats and have a lovely day! Good luck Harps!! Remember going through this with dds, and the thought is always worse than the reality I found - you're right about C-Beebies!
Nova- I think the early growth spurts are the most tiring from what I've heard/read, as later on weaning helps balance things out - at least there's a reason for the shorter gap though!
Twinkle: a couple of possible dates...Monday 12th, Tues 13th, THurs 15th, Fri 16th?? We could meet at Piccadily and find somewhere nice for lunch perhaps? Let me know what you think, as I'm pretty flexible .

novadandypowder · 28/11/2005 12:12

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LONDONER

this is for you

harpsichordcarrier · 28/11/2005 12:19

well I am just going for my first outing with the two of them.... argh, wish me luck...

Londoner · 28/11/2005 12:42

Awwwwwwwwwww thanks everyone!
Thanks for my cake nova, mmmmmmm caaaaaake.

Londoner · 28/11/2005 12:50

harps - sheepskin's for you to sleep on! I find just trying to remain calm & keep yourself distracted the best thing, I would just sing quietly into noisy baby's ear as you rock them....only because I think you just have to ride it out.....although, having said that I do find that walking up a flight of stairs quite often helps to bring up baby's wind? Am I imagining this or have u heard of it b4? Other good distractions/time passers by are giving a warm bath,or as you suggest - going 4 a walk/car drive......hang in there & try 2 get what rest u can during her day sleeps.....hth... have an early dinner each evening too to keep your strength up

twinkle1 · 28/11/2005 13:16
