Happy Birthday to Phoebe! Hope she's had a great day (although how could it compete with yesterday?!)

Thanks for reminding us about James GM. Sending thoughts to Vio, Mr Vio and little Hannah (is that right?).

Baby Hannah is now 2 1/2, and has an adorable little brother Harry, who was born at the end of last year, healthy and gorgeous!

Happy birthday Phoebe! Glad the Dippys had a fun day in London. My intention was to just have a quick look at the dress and a bit of the vows on tv then i got sucked in. It was rather lovely [csmile]

April is over tomorrow, I do hope our April babies have all had a good birthday month. I know both of mine did, can scarcely believe that they are 4 and 2 now. How did that happen?

So what are you all doing with your Bank Holiday Mondays? I am still in my PJs Blush I have been catching up on work all morning, to be fair. Having lunch in a sec, then shower and dress; then I think we're going to take the girls for a cycle on the seafront. Windy, but sunny here Smile

That's lovely news re Baby Harry GM!

Fairly quiet weekend here, which is good as we are exhausted by a stray cat which has been yowling outside out windows at 3am every night Hmm. It's worse than a baby!

Brilliant news Luce :)

Anyone else annoyed by this box hanging down and hiding the top of the writing box?

Hi all, sorry not to have posted for so long. I do visit mumsnet but have gone back to spending most of my online time on book related websites. I've been reviewing books for a while but have started to be really busy with that, so many good things coming out, I have to restrain myself and remember I can't read and review everything.

dp and I can't believe Danny is 4 (today)

Happy birthday to all I've missed and to D's birthday twin Charlie.

We visited the park every day of both bank holidays (twice this weekend just gone), my mum visited us briefly, and my dad. Conor is learning so many new words it's ridiculous.

Our school preference for Danny just happened to be the only one of the three nearest non-church ones that wasn't oversubscribed so he got in fine. It's the nearest, the childminder's other mindees go there and he goes to nursery there in the mornings at the moment, and we and R (the CM) use the children's centre with them, so it will hopefully be a smoother transition rather than a total upheaval.

Hi elkie and happy birthday Danny :o

I was thinking about emailing you the other day to find out how you're doing? Glad to hear about the school news and that D and C are doing well. How is your mum at the moment?

Happy birthday to Charlie as well :o

Thanks SPB

I'm still quite worried about my mum. Last year was so hard with the cancer diagnosis in February, treatment and then chemo over the summer. The feedback seemed very positive but then she was admitted to hospital in terrible pain a few months ago, I think it was February. They decided to operate but there was a debate about whether it was a recurrence of bowel cancer or a secondary gynae cancer. Eventually they operated in March and removed a secondary tumour.

My mum was expecting to start chemo this month but the oncologist thinks it's of limited value/need and she reacted very badly to it last year. He has advised her to get on with her work/life. She is doing so but I'm worried. She's more frail than she used to be and I'm worried about whether there is more than I'm being told. A decision not to have chemo can be a decision for quality of life at the end.

I'm also worried about the changes in the NHS because of this - a diagnosis of cancer is never lucky, but if she had first become ill 6 months later than she did, she probably wouldn't be here now. The deadlines that the last government brought in for scans, tests, operations etc have been scrapped, without those targets my mum wouldn't be here. Now, she's in the system, but still, that is a scary scary thought.

I'm hoping we'll alll be able to see lots of each other this summer whatever happens.

Sorry for that.

Oh elkie so sorry, it sounds like you aren't sure of whatis going on. How worrying and annoying that they aren't being clear. Have they definitely recommended no chemo? What does your mum think about it all?
Completely agree about targets too - while too many aren't a good thing, in general they make sure things are done when they need to be done! The cancer waiting times I thought was one of the success stories.

elkiedee · 04/05/2011 15:43

I think they were clear, and my mum was expecting to spend another summer having chemo. In lots of ways as long as she stays well/recovering the no chemo could be a blessing. What concerns me is not what the doctors are saying but whether my mum is putting a brave face on things, what she's not passing on (I've learned some things since last year that I was never told directly by her at the time).

Hi all,
Just a quick post to say happy birthday to the April babies. G was 4 on the 28th, though his party is this Sunday. Life is okay, though DS1 having autism does colour the family experience, and DS2 (G) is a bit challenging Smile. My mum has also had chemo, though is fine at the moment (cross fingers). Nothing much to report, just wanted to look in and send my love,
xxx
