Welcome to those with a March 2010.
Happy Easter from me....
Unwrap it quick!..

Oh, it's a new thread. Sad I was hoping for chocolate.

MissPenteuth · 21/08/2011 09:06

Ah. Seem to be a lot of trolls lately. School holidays I guess.

PacificDogwood · 21/08/2011 09:43

Well, I am furrin and I am not very odd Grin.
Those in the know apparently think this particular bridge dweller has been on before with similarly contentious threads. But another one of hers was still there last night ("Do I have to let MWs tweak my nipples during the 3rd stage of labour?" - I thought this one deserved points for funnyness..).

My moany thread has descended into madness: intelligence makes for good parenting, and the opposite ShockBiscuit.

Flisspaps · 21/08/2011 20:45

Pacific Sounds like the same Troll who's been trip-trapping about for the last few weeks, she got me recently too :( She's usually on about the finer details of C/S, can she have a GA, can she refuse the painkilling suppository, she doesn't mind if she doesn't see the baby for an hour after the birth etc....sad really that someone either gets off on the responses or is so very troubled that the responses soothe them somehow.

All well here, the family FP are on holiday in sunny Llandudno, where it really hasn't rained on and off since we got here. Am feeling very Envy (that's not jealous, that's green around the gills) and am knackered, poor DH spent two and a half hours entertaining DD in our tiny twin bed B&B room earlier whilst I slept (she was meant to go down for a nap but failed). He tried taking her out but even that didn't get her off to sleep. Still haven't told the family about the baby - haven't even got as far as ringing to do the midwife-form-filling. DH keeps forgetting and then looking Confused when I point out that no, I can't join him in sharing 2 cocktail pitchers for £10 Hmm

Shroomer Fabulous news on the job
Heckle Fingers crossed for you!

FlipFantasia · 23/08/2011 08:42

Morning ladies

Just a quick visit from me, as have to leave work early today to pick up DS from his longest session yet of settling in at his new childminder. Tomorrow is my last day in the office until 9th Sept so am a bit [stress][denial] about how much I have to do in such a short period of time...so of course I come onto MN instead!

Fliss sorry to hear you're green about the gills. I'm 9+4 and am still feeling wrecked and borderline hungover a lot of the time. Though I think (knocks furiously on wood) that the nausea is abating a little. Hope you have a great time in Wales! There was a fascinating programme on last night about how the 9 months in utero has such an impact on the rest of our life. Though of course I can't remember the name of it!

PD aren't trolls a funny (peculiar) thing. Where I work we get quite a lot of them because of our website, but they seem to be defined differently (as roughly anyone who tries to throw a comment thread off rather than someone making up personal stuff to get a reaction) but it's fascinating to hear the community moderators talk about how they handle them (as regulars can often become trolls, which makes me wonder about MN trolls sometimes!).

Heckle that's a looong time to wait for your job answer - shall keep my fingers crossed for good news!

Waves to everyone else. I have a feeling this may be my last bit of MNing until after we get back from the States. Am so looking forward to heading over on Thursday - feels like ages since our last holiday at Christmas time.

slimmingsarahandco · 23/08/2011 12:08

Ha ha iwcas, Izzy demands to watch Raa Raa on iPlayer too. There are only about 10 episodes as well, so I think I've seen most of them 3 or 4 times now..

That's a shame about deleting the posts, but I understand. And it might have been me that put DS' full name on here, from FB, thinking that his surname was a middle name. If it was me, I'm sorry and I hope it hasn't caused any problems. I'm far too blasé about what I post on here about myself; I'm sure if you knew where to look you could find where I live, where I used to live, my age, my job, DD's first and middle names, her DOB.. Blush Not that I'm likely to be of that much interest to anyone, but still.

Flip hope you have a great time in the US.

sarah that job sounds great, fingers crossed for you. And I hope Elliot didn't give you too much trouble over his milk this evening :)

I found out today that my best friend is 11w pregnant. Well, I had a sneaking suspicion when she texted yesterday and asked me not to make anything with blue cheese in for lunch Grin.

evitas · 24/08/2011 11:26

Just a quick hi to everyone.

V's baptism was lovely.
We came yesterday and had the most horrible flight. It's here if you want to know what happened.

I have a job interview this afternoon! please wish me luck

x

Flisspaps · 24/08/2011 19:35

Flip I watched the same programme, Horizon. Was a bit disappointed, it didn't really seem to say anything that didn't seem pretty obvious in the main, although the thing about low birth weight and problems later in life was interesting, as was the Saudi Arabian tradition of seeing the placenta as a twin and being buried in the hospital graveyard.

Sarah We didn't give DD a bottle tonight - we hadn't washed them after coming home from our holiday, so gave her a cup of milk and a story instead, and she has (fingers crossed) gone off with no trouble. Hopefully Elliot will take to the beaker no problem Grin DD was playing silly buggers last night and was up several times before midnight, but we're hoping that was just due to the change of surroundings and being in a room on her own again. Good luck with the job application and to you evitas!

evitas YWNBU! Not in the slightest. I don't pay for a quiet flight (certainly not with easyjet) - I pay for a seat and a pilot to get me to my destination. It's part and parcel of travelling that sometimes you might have a noisy child on your bus/train/plane and that's just how it is. For the attendant to then try to blame his curtness on a language barrier is certainly not on, I'd complain - his apology was probably more to do with getting you to not complain, rather than actually being meant. If he's been arsy with you, he's probably been arsy with others. I am glad that V's baptism was lovely, don't let the misery on the plane detract from that :)

IWCAS Lovely to 'see' you! Have been keeping up with R on Facebook, and am very jealous of the sentences. DD has lots of words, but doesn't seem to put any together yet really. Look forward to deciphering your new identity, Cllr (in waiting) IWCAS!

MissP How exciting for your friend! I too am very recognisable on here, it wouldn't take much for someone to find out my real name from my web links, and from that you can find my phone number and all sorts. Comes with the territory I suppose though, I can't be bothered to have a different username for childminding stuff and one for personal stuff.

PacificDogwood · 25/08/2011 21:12

evitas, I hope you have recovered from your return flight. Glad to hear V's Christianing went well and you had a nice time with your family.
Come and join us expats here if you fancy .

IWCAS, helloooooo, how the hell are you??
Congrats on being (s)elected (I don't understand how politics work in this country Blush, certainly not on a local level - seems v confusing to me).

sarah, re milk in bottle/cups: I better not let you know that DS3 aged 3.5 still enjoys a bottle of milk at bedtime Grin. I feel a sense of achievement that we have ditched all dummies - Joe never went back to one after his mouth infection in June..

MissP, I never post anything personal I wouldn't be happy to share in RL - but I overshare am a blabbermouth so you could probably get my bank account details and Amazon password on here if you tired hard enough GrinWink. I cannot bear being too paranoid, but maybe that just makes me naive.

Today, I am living dangerously, nay, everyday I am living dangerously as I am letting my kids ride bikes on our road (cul-de-sac) and I am not unduly worried about millions of small Lego pieces floating all over our house, apparently conspiring to choke Joe. And I gave DS3 an unwashed apple to eat Shock.
I encountered lots of cat's bum faces today and I am grumpy. Cidre is helping , you'll be glad to hear, as I do not feel the need to link to my ranting thread.

Night-night x.

TryLikingClarity · 26/08/2011 20:30

Hi, my name is TLC, and I was once a frequent poster on the ante-natal thread.

I am a lovely person, but just couldn't keep up with the post-natal thread, esp in the early days it just moved too fast for me. So I dropped out. I repent, and I'm back now.

Ahem. Grin

I posted on a PDW thread the other day, so I decided to come back over here and see how everyone is.

Hello all!

I have skimmed a few pages of this thread and see some congratulations are in order, yay!

A quick overview on myself, DH and DS is:
*DS is 18 months old, (due in March 2010, came at tail-end of Feb 2010)
*I quit my job and studies to be a SAHM. It just didn't suit me to be out of the home, and oddly it suited our finances and happiness more for me to be at home.
*Although I'm a SAHM, I do regular volunteer work, so I'm not glued to DS 24/7... more like 24/6.

  • For the past few weeks I've been getting majorly broody and am genuinely shocked at this feeling! I didn't expect to feel this way! DS is 18 months old and I'm only 27 years old!

So, I'm not sure what to do, but will hang around here and see if any of you more experienced ladies have any wisdom you can shine my way.

BlueyDragon · 26/08/2011 20:49

Hello TLC, nice to see you. Not being head girl, I don't think I'm allowed to offer absolution, but that doesn't matter!

CONGRATS Fliss, that's fantastic news.

Wine for Pacific and evitas. some people just are a pain in the butt.

Quick flying visit, life's just busy. And for some reason I'm typing in Devonian and keep inserting "o"s in every word, so going back and fixing it is making the typing job even more difficult!

Have good long weekends everyone!

Arcadie · 26/08/2011 21:05

TLC Blooming brilliant to see you back again! Welcome welcome ...

And urm, on the broody front.... by the time DS1 was the age that my March baby is now, I was already 3 months pregnant. Go for it.

OP posts:
Sariska · 26/08/2011 22:21

Hello TLC! Welcome back! And I have to hold my hand up next to RKD: I got pg with my March 2010 baby when DC1 was 15 months old.....

Hope you're feeling more sanguine now, evitas. There are tactless fools in all walks of life; am just sorry you came up against one at such a stressful time

How are you PD? Hope Bluey's wine is hitting the spot. (BTW I am now the happy owner of a Merrell Wakefield - in a lovely dark plum colour - and it is bloody wonderful! ....although it really ought not to be getting quite so much use in August.)

to everyone else. Have a good weekend all.

Walnut8 · 27/08/2011 15:07

It's funny TLC. I am feeling exactly the same way ... I was on the march 2010 ante-natal thread and have very recently started to feel strangely clucky again so have "rediscovered" mumsnet ...

Hi everyone else, most of your names are so familiar, although I'm sure you don't remember me!!

A bit about me .. DD born at the end of March 2010 after being more than 2 weeks overdue (about the time I dropped off mumsnet as had no real support IRL apart from DH and no time to get online!). I've been back at work for 4 months now .... and have moved countries to be back with my family...

Anyway, very interested to see how you all are, am trying to read back over the thread to catch up.

Walnut8 · 28/08/2011 12:38

hi evitas and PD ...

I think I want to avoid PD's baby dust too for a few more months as:

(a) am still trying to juggle work and toddler and really don't understand how anyone juggles 2+ children and work?!
(b) we are trying to save some money to be able to afford a place for a 3+ family
(c) am back to size 8 and don't want to be size 14-16 again ... for a little while (and have firmly decided am not going to over-indulge next time ... even if I am 14+ days overdue and hate the world ... okay maybe at that stage I will be entitled)
(d) am just a wee bit terrified of the whole giving birth thing again.

Walnut8 · 28/08/2011 12:44

by the way, I haven't had the chance to read back very far, but am already devastated by some posts ... Manda and rindas Sad

Pingpong · 28/08/2011 15:02

well hello MMMs
Sorry I've being MIA - have limited internet access on holiday and been back for almost a week and just catching up on stuff.
I've skimmed through all that I've missed ...
Big congrats to flisspaps on the pg and for those broody ones just go for it Grin but do bare in mind Pacifics good advice upthread about 2 hands/2 children
I most certainly don't want any baby dust coming my way but happy to blow in the right direction for those that do!
I survive by using the benign neglect Cbeebies method during the holidays, it's the only way I get some peace!
Congrats shroomer on the new job and I'm pleased that the outcome of your investigation was positive
Fingers also crossed for you too heckle tough choice re working FT or not at all. And hope sarah you get the lab job - must be better than cleaning !

Big well done to re: cllr IWCAS I look forward to your new ID Grin
waves hello to walnut and TLC
Pacific I didn't read the whole of your other thread but I did smile - you deserve a medal having 4 boys! I hope you can find a nanny and some 'normality' resumes with school going back.

Baby G never really took to a bottle so we didn't have to break that habit. Neither of them take milk before bed now. I think the HVs reckon that 12m is a good age to get them off the bottle as if you leave it longer than that it is more of a battle and they are really attached to it by then. I am having no success with dummies though - DD1 managed one night with no dummy before our holiday but has since gone back to taking it and DD2 is very attached too.

Sorry to hear about poor Jo's tongue pacific it wasn't that long ago that he did it before was it? Baby G did a nose dive on our tiled kitchen floor with a dummy (in her hand or in her mouth I'm not sure) anyway when I picked her up there was a lot of blood and tears. She wouldn't let me look until bed time but her tooth had gone into her lip (which I was expecting) but she has also torn the bit that connects gum and lip (don't know what it is called) but it is flapping . She must have irritated it again today with food as there was more blood in her mouth Sad I just want to wrap her up in cotton wool but she is a determined explorer!

Right enough waffle have to go and walk the dog/let the children have some fresh air and turn off that telly!

Arcadie · 28/08/2011 18:37

Hi all. Just got back from being birth partner for my bf cappuccino carrie whom some of you met at the mmmm. Amazing experience and so precious to be part of it. Quickest labour ever. 40 mins from 5cm to birth. Ow!

OP posts:
Shroomer · 28/08/2011 20:28

IWCAS for prime minister!!

Welcome back Walnut and TLC.

I had LO to A+E a few days ago. We think he banged his head (I'm not certain because I was in a different room). Within 10 mins he was sleepy and vomited. Anyway, he perked up at A+E and was playing with the toys there as if nothing had happened. Was very worried, and was beside myself.

PacificDogwood · 28/08/2011 22:11

Oh, Shroomer, how scary! Hope you and your DS are ok now.

Hello, Walnut8. I was just quite amused about how many people on here had mentioned Attacks of the Broodiness. I suppose for the classical 2 year age gap, we'd already be too late....

Arcadie, congrats to carrie Smile. Did you cry? I think I cried at every single delivery I was every present at (apart from the piglets at my uncle's farm Grin).

Smac, Joe is fine again, thanks for asking, insane, but fine. Sounds like you had a busy/fun summer.

TryLikingClarity · 29/08/2011 10:23

Awww, well done you being a bf partner, Arcadie, that sounds lovely :)

Would love to do that for someone.

evitas · 29/08/2011 10:32

I did not get the job :(
But part of me feels relieved (if it makes sense) going back full-time was making me nervous.
