Welcome to those with a March 2010.
Happy Easter from me....
Unwrap it quick!..

Oh, it's a new thread. Sad I was hoping for chocolate.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MandaHugNKiss · 02/06/2011 22:43

PD if there is anyone who deserves a child that finally sleeps, it's you.

And me

And IWCAS from memory.

Oh, and celebratory hair-dos are essential so well done on that front. What with all the sleep you're now getting and snazzy hair you're gonna be knocking years off!

bmi Forgot to say hurrah for I's walkiness! I'll bet there's an element of realising that old saying 'be careful what you wish for' has been around for so long because it's true! It IS fabulous to see them walk and literally grow/develop each day before our very eyes but it's certainly a whole other ball game once they walk/run everywhere and you need eyes in the back of your head (and other places) in order to keep track of them. Please send love right back to pixie - she's truly missed. Gosh, I wonder if we can work out a code so that we can post/receive messages... Grin

evitas · 03/06/2011 10:02

[evitas makes her happy dance to celebrate PD's victory on the sleep from]

I'm much better thank you. But today is little V. who has a temperature. Today is a gorgeous day up here, the forecast is 25ºC Shock and we'll have to stay indoors!! We only have 5 days a year with temperatures above 25ºC with no wind...Not fair!! Not fair!!! :(

Shroomer good luck with the procedure and Italy... how nice. I love Italy! are you going to the coast or more in inland (surrounded by those lovely Italian villas, mountains, cypresses, good wine and great food)?

Heckle good luck with the job hunting. I spent yesterday's afternoon on an application... it is such a tedious thing to do.

Flip how brave of you to go camping! That is something I could not do with DS. I'm sure he would destroy the tent in 5 minutes!! Blush

Manda I'm not an expert but maybe it will take a little while for your hormones to get back on track again. Good luck!

Happy that Pixie is well, but missing her loads!

Waves to everyone else!

Oooh, also Envy re DS4's sleeping, PD. But pleased-for-you Envy. Honestly Smile.

My DD, even when she is not being a teething monster, is still as far from sleeping through as she was as a newborn. In fact, as a newborn, she would go to bed (with me) at 11ish, wake at maybe 2ish for a quick and sleepy feed and then go back to sleep until 6, 7 or even 8. OK, so she now goes to bed at 7ish but she frequently, as last night, wakes hourly between then and 11, expects boob at 11 at the latest and then again in the wee small hours, at which point she comes into bed with us.

Recently, we have enjoyed the small victory of often being able to put her back in her cot after the 2am-ish feed, simply because she likes her own space so much and has obviously figured out that she gets more of it in her cot than in our bed. She does then, though, wake at 5 and expect a move to the parental bed.

So, even on a good night, I am up twice. In fact, it's been a lot more recently as both DC have had the sort of horrible snotty colds that seem to require intensive middle-of-the-night parenting. Plus, DS is suffering from a surfeit of dinosaurs, bumble bees and ghosts that invade his bedroom and leave him sobbing in terror. I have had some success in instructing him to say, "No, go away dinsosaurs" in a firm voice but that's not much good when he has nightmares (night terrors?) from which he can barely be woken. Last night I had to lie on his bed and cuddle him between 1.30 and 2.30am (you see that the timing is burnt onto my brain). He then appeared in our room at 5-something-stupid and had a horrible shouty tantrum when he was removed to his bedroom. But he was still asleep there when I left for work, eyes pegged open, at 7.30.

Anyway, I shall now stop subjecting you all to my sleep woes and just take out shares in the sleep board.

Good luck with the TTCing, manda, the job-hunting, Heckle, and enjoying the sun, everyone.

Sariska · 03/06/2011 10:16

X-posts evitas. Sorry to hear that V's illness has unhelpfully coincided with one of Scotland's 5 annual sunny days. No fair.

evitas · 03/06/2011 14:15

shit, DS just had an allergic reaction (I think to the Kiwi). Off to the doctors... he looks like a little monster, his eyes are all red and swollen. Poor thing

SiameseIfYouPlease · 03/06/2011 15:03

Evitas hope he's ok. It's oddly common, I've found recently, to have fruit allergies. I'd never heard of them before having DD.

I am here, lurking, btw. One day I'll have time to post properly!

MissPenteuth · 03/06/2011 15:56

Oh dear evitas I hope he's ok. Isobel is allergic to strawberries; she came out in hives when we were on holiday. It cleared up quickly with a dose of antihistamine syrup, hopefully the same will work for V.

Sariska, Izzy comes into bed with us in the wee small hours as well. It's obviously become a habit for her because when I go through when she cries, she points towards our room and says 'Dada'. I'd love to break the habit but she does go to sleep quickly in our bed, so it's much more tempting at 2.30am than any sort of effort to get her back to sleep in her cot. Rod, back, etc, but... meh.

Really glad to hear that Joe has finally cracked the whole sleeping thing, Pacific. Gloat away, you deserve it :)

PacificDogwood · 03/06/2011 17:24

evitas, I hope V is ok - apparently strawberries and kiwi are both very allergenic - needless to say, all of mine have had loads of both from a young age because they are yummy and easily mashable Hmm... I only found out about it after I had had DS2 and they had both had them without ill effect - lucky, I suppose.

Rods, schmods - we all do what we have to to get through. My 2 older ones are really almost too big to cuddle as you cannot cuddle all of them at once anymore . If you all find a way to enjoy the cuddles you are getting, you are onto a winner Grin. I am still enjoying being in my own bed on my own all night, but would like to cuddle Joe a bit more when it suits ME Blush (no pleasing me, is there?). He is too busy for much cuddling during the day, although has taken to diving head first down my cleavage when the mood takes him ShockGrin.

Sweating at work: no fair, I have to be here til 6pm, and tomorrow is to be cold, wtf??

evitas · 03/06/2011 20:19

V. is much better from the allergy, and he's starting to luck cute again with his face back to normal. GP prescribed antihistamine syrup. But he still has a temperature and, as expected is a viral thing, so we have to wait for it to clear and he also has conjunctivitis! Poor little man.
Bluey I think it was A. who had conjunctivitis before. Did it take long to clear?

I'm so exhausted. I'm just going to watch one House and then off to bed, because I think the night wont be easy.

MandaHugNKiss · 03/06/2011 20:50

You may find the antihistamine syrup makes him sleepier than usual so may not get the bad night you're expecting but I know that feeling of dreading the night ahead - no fun.

slimmingsarahandco · 04/06/2011 08:14

Hey ladies-

Sorry not been around much we have had a busy half term break- here! made the most of the fab weather and visited a country park thursday- lots of animals and games etc for lo's - then yesterday we were at the West Midlands Safari Park- had a brilliant day x

Flisspaps · 04/06/2011 09:24

waves Hello all!

Have had a quick scan through of the 2 weeks worth of posts I've missed Shock and am glad to see that all seems to be pretty much well for everyone :)

Won't do shout outs, will take too long after a fortnight. I've been MIA mainly due to taming the beast that was the garden from Hell and the bags of Doom (formerly the shed of Doom).

And now...it's finished (apart from the erection of a giant two storey playhouse we've been given. I'm very immature, I had a snigger at typing erection. There, I've done it again!) Those of you on FB might have seen the album showing the progress we've made but I'll put a before and after pic on my profile here for those non-FBers because I am so bloody proud of it. This weekend I shall risk assess it and email the dreaded Ofsted, and hopefully they'll let me open the door to let the children out to play in the daytime (just in time for next weeks rain!)

DH has had the redundancy confirmed, however there is an offer of a 0.6 timetable (so 3 days a week) which would allow him to do 2 days supply elsewhere, providing school timetable him for three full days rather than a couple of hours each day. He had two interviews - a HoD one where they said he wasn't experienced enough as he'd only taught in one school, and a teacher job where they said he was too experienced, and should be applying for HoD roles Still, with the 0.6 we can pay the mortgage providing interest rates don't rise too much, although the Sky Sports subscription has gone already, poor DH - he loved that package :(

DD is well, still running round like a loon. She's taken to carrying books to DH to read (never me) and has a favourite (It's Mine) and does thhhhh for a snake, ahah for a monkey and 'dertis' (there it is) for the lion hiding on the back page. And she eats like a horse - I don't know where she puts it! She's also sleeping well still, goes down at 6pm, gets up and shouts at us at about 10.30pm (and carries on until about 11.30pm regardless of what we do, which is now pretty much let her get on with it as nothing works) and then gets up at 6am. Lovely stuff! Grin

Pingpong · 04/06/2011 10:34

still lurking - not had much to say really. Been busy with nappy business. Had Mum down for a few nights which was nice. There was a big explosion at DH's work on Thursday and 4 people died - it's been on the national news. He was not there but one of his friends had just gone through the gate as it was just before the shift change. It really makes you think about things, the oil industry is just so dangerous......
DD2 is so close to walking she can now stand unassisted for about a minute. My prediction is she will be walking within the next 7 days..... She has no fear (head first down the slide at the park) so I am going to have no peace once she finds her feet properly!
Not many proper words here but a lot of babbling - basically a running commentary on life in baby language.
Yay for the sleeping Joe PD and Yay for the finished garden Fliss.
Waves to everyone else
I think I'm going to have to buy another paddling pool. The original has been eaten by mice in the garden shed :(

evitas · 04/06/2011 14:31

V. is better, thank you ladies. Still has a temperature but the allergy has faded.

Smac nice to see you :) and Shock @ big explosion...how sad!

Fliss The garden is looking great! And 0.6 is not a bad start. I'm sure DH will find the other 0.4 to have a full timetable. Good luck.

Sarah I'm sorry H. had a another asthma attack. Have you checked the threads on asthma? I rememberPixie said they were good. And :) R. I understand her very well! I also NEED new shoes very often Wink

Manda you were right. I think the antihistamine syrup made him a little sleepier.

Is freezing up here :(
Have a great weekend.
x

angfirsttimer · 04/06/2011 20:45

Hi All! Long time no post!

No idea where to begin with a catch up I have been lurking intermittently but clearly have missed major news with the departure of Pixie! This thread is not the same without her (no offence to the rest of us) but she is a LEGEND! I hope she is well and continues to find a way to stay in touch and more importantly tell us all about the new DC when he/she arrives.

Manda glad you are beginning to feel better after all you have been through and good luck with TTC

Fliss I have been watching the garden transformation on FB - looking good - your garden is HUGE!

evitas hope the allergy has calmed down

PD great news on the sleep front and on the extra half day with the DC

News here is that DS is still not walking, he cruises like a pro and is so strong on his legs, I think he just cant be bothered! He is chatty though, and plays a very good game of peekabo complete with 'boo'
We are settled into our new home although it is a bit of a culture shock living in a village from a town. All the neighbours come and say hello! Lovely for DS to have a big garden to play in though and DGP bought him a slide and climbing frame which he loves but results in me constantly fretting that he is going to fall off!
Loving this age thought it is so cute but am starting to experience the temper tantrums which I dont love so much!

waves to everyone particularly to Bluey and sariska who I failed to meet up with again the other week.

PacificDogwood · 04/06/2011 22:05

evitas, glad to hear V is better. I hope you both got at least some sleep last night.

Hello, ang, nice to 'see' you Smile. Your DS will walk whenever he feels the time is right. IME the ones who walk a little later are much less wobbly and go straigth from cruising to running - you won't see him for dust Grin!

Smac, my goodness, that must have been a bit too close to home for comfort SadShock. So very sad for the men who lost their lives and their loved ones.

Fliss, sounds like a plan re work etc. Must be so stressful for you all.

Kinda boring day here today, I am thinking about starting a thread about it, as I feel I've done nothing although I have been busy all day long. Whereas DH was at work which seems more 'worthy' in my own head Hmm. Stupid, I know...

evitas · 05/06/2011 13:28

[evitas scratched her head. She doesn't have a clue what is wrong with V.]

V. is fully recovered from his allergic reaction, but he still has a temperature + conjunctivitis + runny nose + cough + skin rash = poor baby (and mummy and daddy).

PD I'm sure you did loads of things yesterday!! And some would be exhausted, but I understand your feeling. Did you start a thread?

ang nice to "see you". Glad you are enjoying your new house. DS only started walking 3 days ago - and he's the "oldest" in this threat. So don't worry, they all have their own timings.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.
x

MummyElk · 05/06/2011 22:04

hi all
am posting against my better judgement but i'm working tomorrow so i just know it'll be wednesday before i know it so although have very little to add thought i'd at least say helloooooo
Smac jeez i've read loads about the explosion, thank god your DH is ok
pixie still miss you
rkd i know you've been away but do pop in lady.....
SARISKA i feel your pain re night terrors etc. I can't remember the last time DD1 didn't end up in our bed (in fact had something of a stand-off about it whilst on holiday). We are in the realm of letting her sleep initially wherever she'll go (including our bed). Anyway that's not the point - the point is, IOE we've found her night terrors are generally either temperature-related (ie fever) or utter shatteredness. Ie if she's over-tired, she WILL have a night terror. I don't know if this helps - and I feel your pain in practically holding down your LO in the middle of the night - but the only advice I can give you is the same as if you had a newborn..... Find a way of still getting some sleep - and do it. We pretty much let her sleep in our bed (as long as she's not fidgeting like a cricket) or just keep walking her back to her bed. (basically it depends where we are - here at home her bed won't take an adult. At my mum's, her single bed means we can fall asleep with her and then creep out).

re DD2 I think we are finally at the End of Breastfeeding. I know it's good to let them find their own way - and tbh I think I was finding it a bit weird to feed this gangly toddler anyway (despite my bfing peer supporting stuff where everyone's feeding a toddler)... But recent attempts have resulted in her literally shaking her head at me.... So if she says 'no'... what else can I do?!!! Smile
tantrums definitely there - i've caught her head so many times from hitting the floor - anyone else's LO fell themselves on their back at the slightest inclination of a Telling OFF?!!!! Am finding she understands me a LOT though - we've been negotiating One More Mouthful, or No PLEASE DON'T TOUCH THE TOILET BRUSH AGAIN IT'S DISGUSTING etc etc and I swear she does understand.....

Sorry to go on about me/us - been on holiday and still some unpacking to do - don't have the brain capacity to work out proper individual posts......

big love to all Grin

BlueyDragon · 07/06/2011 14:20

Evitas, conjunctivitis can last ages but usually no more than a week. Both mine, but especially A, get a low grade variant of it with colds and it clears up with lots of cooled boiled water wiping. The really serious waking up with eyes glued shut type can be quick if it responds to antibiotics but if it's viral it takes longer. Nursery make them have antibiotics before they can be in nursery, which is a bit dappy but there it is. Hope V is feeling better.

Pacific, hurrah for sleeping! You deserve it. Everyone does. Do you find you wake up expecting him to be awake?

Smac, I'm pleased your DH is ok but how horrendous.

Waves at ang, there's a Starbucks with your name on it when you have time. And cake!

Fliss, the garden looks great!

Nanny started yesterday. This is all a bit strange.

squiggleywiggler · 07/06/2011 20:01

Right, I'm going to catch up properly and post some shout outs, but first if anyone could spare a thought for my wonderful, overdue and fed up client and fellow MN-er and post something amusing on this thread:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/childbirth/1231914-Things-to-get-through-the-hard-slog-of-being-overdue

I would be eternally grateful.

PacificDogwood · 07/06/2011 21:41

Just v briefly: Joe is not well Sad. Temp @ 40C and utterly utterly miserable. He bit his tongue again, it is in shreds - you should have seen the blood last night Shock: sleepsack, PJs, sheet and mattress-cover sodden. He has not eaten since yesterday, had 2 yogurts today - and of course he's not sleeping well. TTSP, TTSP, TTSP....

Hope you are all much, much better then him (particularly V Smile) - and keep your sticky eyes to yourselves!

Pingpong · 08/06/2011 01:18

sorry to hear that PD :( why is he biting his tongue? Just the sheer misery of it all? - did you decide on getting a nanny in the end?
I've commented on your thread squiggley

How is the nanny bluey?
evitas is V any better now?
melk you always make me giggle
fliss I never did get round to commenting on DH's redundancy - sorry to hear that and I hope he gets something suitable soon.
manda how are you? Has J got over his vomiting? Any signs of ovulation?
IWCAS I think you might be down in my neck of the woods? Now that L has started 2 hours of school it's tricky to get anywhere otherwise I would love to come and eat cake again in Tenby!
sarah sorry to hear about DS's asthma attack - not something I know about and our expert pixie isn't here to offer words of support and comfort :(
shroomer I've lost touch slightly and I'm not sure when your procedure is and when the holiday is but thinking of you and hoping all goes well.
afribaby nice to see you back and WoW at DH being away for 8 months! Would that be good or bad? .... there are somedays I would love DH to go away for a bit.....but 8 months is long!

Flip camping sounds great - we are thinking of trying it out with the girls but need to decide what tent to get.....

evitas · 08/06/2011 14:15

Thanks everyone. V. is better. Still has a low temperature but rash and conjunctivitis are starting to fade and CM was fab and told me she could look after him during the afternoon so I could rest a little bit.

I'll post more later.
x

squiggleywiggler · 08/06/2011 15:51

evitas really glad that V is better - hope you've all had some rest now.
Flip camping looked really fun in the FB photos
afribaby I know I wouldn't be up for that at all, but you've got to do what's best for you
manda I'll be sending positive TTC vibes your way
PD - amazing that he was sleeping well and hopefully the poorly, tongue-biting thing is just a blip. Sounds bloody awful though
bluey how's it going with the nanny

Tantrums: yes, we have them and I'm trying to ignore and distract

ang DD only just started walking this week and she's 15.5 months, so don't sweat it

Right, back soon...

hecklephone · 08/06/2011 20:12

These are for anyone else who's feeling like a zombie at the moment. Should at least see us through tonight's The Apprentice Wink

We're all sleeping craply here at the moment - R's new trick is waking around 5 or half 5. I'm knackered, she's knackered, DH is knackered (although he gets to stay in bed Biscuit) and she nearly always wakes DD1 also who also seems rather more tired and teary than usual at the moment. pacific thanks for reminding me about TTSP. I shall repeat it a few more times this evening I think. Although I'm actually trying to stop myself from wishing away too much time at the moment - I find myself longing for the days to come when I'll have to crowbar them out of bed in the morning, or when we can happily leave them with GPs for the entire weekend, or when I can work more...you get the gist. Anyhoo, I know when those times come I'll be missing the cute, sweet little cuddly monsters they are now, so I should just learn to love what I've got!

Starting to panic about uniform for DD1 for school, haven't got a clue where to start!!

Things looking more promising on the work front - there are a couple of possibilities opening up soon, although I don't see anything really taking off until after the summer holidays so we shall have to put up with the groaning current account a bit longer...Hmm

I'm sorry I'm currently lacking the brainpower to remember/comment on what anyone else is up to, suffice to say I do keep up with you all and am sending good vibes to all the corners of MMMM-land Smile
