Bagpuss - Does your buggy have two handles, umbrella style ? I think the ones with one bar across the top (some Jane, Mountain Buggy etc.) mean less strain on the wrist IYSWIM. Must get some imprints done for mini me. Should've done them when she fitted in the shoebox, LOL, but she seemed so fragile !

LOL, Eulalia... just imagining you sorting all the kiddies out. At the moment '2' seems distant... '3'.... WOW.

cackle, what's a 'jag' ? Some cockney rhyming slang I don't know ? I thought maybe you'd had a 5 hour shag, LOL, but obviously this is ridiculous if followed by a 3 hour one. As long as little vin's second word isn't punani, I think you'll be fine, LOL.

LOL hub2dee - I think jag is jab? ie injection or am I totally wrong!

Just taken a picture of ds lying comfortably in our new bidet

hub - for future ref for a small baby dip their feet in ink or onto an ink pad and take imprints that way.

oh dear ds doesn't want to sleep today. dd now covering herself in pen too

Hub, our maclaren buggy has two handles but that's not the problem really as when I use that each of the older children hold on to the uprights at the back for road crossing etc. I think that my injury has been caused by the E3 as it is very free wheeling and I have to fight it to keep it straight on some of the pavements near the school IYSWIM. I am now thinking I should have gone for a fixed wheel three wheeler.

Eulalia, you are very good to spend so much time with each of yours. It feels like I hardly get a minute with each one atm.

Hub, do get some imprints done. dd's are in a heather colour which is very pretty and ds2 has just had his done in light green. Oh, have ordered one of the hats on your link too. George and Camille will hate their parents similtaneously in years to come .

um a jag is a stint or a stretch or a sustained period in the dictionary of merryberry picked it up when I was a nurse in my 20s as in:

  • I've got a 10 day jag with 4 double shifts
  • The junior doctors have been on a 3 day drinking jag
  • That management consultant has got himself a cushy paying jag laid out
  • Charge nurse's bitchy jag has been going on way too long now

We're not having many 'jags' when it comes to sleep. Especially not at night. Ooops - got to go, she's crying again...

Ah - I stand corrected

I can only manage 'special' time with the older two by virtue of my childminder.

Often use cBeebies as my alternative 'childminder' though.... stops them running riot while I cook a meal or even feed the baby. Sometimes it feels like I just sit down to feed him and the door bursts open and I have to get up to deal with the commotion.

Schools are off tomorrow for a day - not sure what we are doing yet.

The bidet shot sounds funny, Eulalia ! Does the 'ink pad' ink wash off easily ?

Bagpuss, we have a fixed three wheel buggy. You are right, the lack of 'need to steer' means you only need to direct force forward, and occasionally down to change direction IYSWIM, rather than constantly battling with shopping-trolley style wheels which tend to find the 'slope' whilst walking and can hunt from side to side etc. Maybe sell yours on ebay / here and get a second hand or new three wheeler ? (ours is a Mountain Buggy Terrain. You may also consider the MB Urban which has a 'lockable' front wheel... not quite as fab off road, and probably has a teeny bit of 'wander' built-in, but better than full-swivel buggies probably). I think dd's pink outfits might be clashing rather with the strawberry hat ! Hmmm... might have to explore the colour palette a bit, LOL. Bet it looks fab on George !

Thanks for clearing up the jag, mb.

Oh Hub, don't encourage me. You see, now I'll simply have to go and research all of this . dh will probably kill me if I suggest another pram! Having said that we are now no longer using the doubles kit on the E3 so it is kind of redundant and would fetch a good price on Ebay I'm sure. I have bought the navy hat, btw, to go with ds2's big blue eyes .

Kids - they make you larf...

dd - I asked her what she'd had for snack at playgroup - she said "dog food" turns out it was hotdogs.

ds1 - didn't know the name for baby booties so called them "soft wellies"

Speaking of prams I had to take the NCT one back as the wheel came off. Fortunately I am getting my money back. So I got another in a thrift shop for £20!

This is the exact same one on eBay: Mothercare pram

Got all the bits except the rain cover but can pick one up for about £5 on eBay.

Going to Asda now which is supposed to be dd's 'special time' but she won't notice and no doubt I'll get her some shiny beads/hair band.

oh yes ink pad - it can stain the little feet for a few days but washes off. Depends what you wash them in. I am not using soap on ds at all (although I do use disp wipes on his bum but wash with water straight after). I think I used red bottled ink with dd and got some strange looks from the midwife when she looked at her pink feet.

hub2dee · 10/11/2005 13:51

Bagpuss - there's a totally enormous thread umming and ahhing about MBs on MN... if you search my name and Mountain Buggy you should find it. Around May sometime ?

Buggered up wrists really isn't funy. Tell dh that some bloke off the Net told you you had to get one, LOL. They are (much) cheaper in the States if that helps. And it'll be cheaper than surgery, or getting taxis everywhere cos you can't turn the steering wheel.

The E3 is very popular, it should sell well. In the UK, you can get MBs from this guy here , ITH.

Did you get a hat from the buggysnuggle people then ? (Thought you were referring to the knitted strawberry thingy).

Thanks for the ink info, Eulalia... can imagine the midwives' faces at the pink feet, LOL

Moving away briefly from buggy shopping.... how much are all of the little ones sleeping during the day? DD2s nights are getting more and more restless. I'm starting to think about policing her daytime naps. She probably has about 1 hour in the morning and 1-2 hours in the afternoon then 30 minutes late afternoon. Is that too much?

Back to buggy shopping, I reckon you can't fault the MaClaren XT. Nice and light on the wrists...

LOL at 'dog food' Eulalia.

LOL Hub! I already tell him that you know all about macs (a subject close to his heart). I remember the MB thread - I think I may have even contributed to it by stating that swivel wheels were really very good.... oh well. I have an aching shoulder now too and can't take ibuprofen because of bf! I bought the blue berry hat, not the buggysnuggle one, reckon it will go with more.

Belo, we have a techno classic for the car - I daren't use it for the school run as the pavements here really are shocking - the wheels would disintegrate in seconds I think, which is why I have always had a three wheeler for walking. I agree though, nice and light/easy for shopping etc. ds2 sleeps on the hoof generally, and therefore only has 20 mins her and there during school and nursery runs but sleeps equally badly at night and was up every hour on the hour last night [knackered emoticon].

Hub, its funny but most of the links you post seem to be purple already on my screen, meaning I must have already been there, oops! You can see I have already been looking at MBs, although surfing the net probably isn't helping.....

Belo, if that's too much, we're in trouble ! dd is a big time sleeper. More or less from 9 or 10 at night till 6 or 7 in the morning; a sleep after breakfast for maybe 2+ hours, several (long) kips in the afternoon / evening etc. !!! Not always like this, but she does spend a long time in the land of nod - obviously her daytime sleeps don't seem to affect her night sleep (in our case)...

Well, if dh is a Mac man, Bagpuss, he already is a sensible fella a Mountain Buggy would mean he could take George for a real 4X4 off-road adventure, LOL.... they really are very sturdy and simple pushchairs ! (LOL @ link colour BTW...)

I have changed my name- I was the one beginning with H with the dangerous biscuit/booze habit and not the man so I think you know who I am...

I am obsessed with sleeping patterns at the mo as dd is changing from being regimental to highly temperamental- at the mo she is only napping for about 1 and a half hours per day... (she sleeps quite well from 6.30pm and is up twice until 7am) It is taking it'a toll as my Christmas list is now as follows:
Ooh la lift from benefit,
Beauty Flash Balm from Clarins,
Age defying revitalising eye gel from Oil of Ulay etc etc.
Basically I am going to get all my Christmas presents in the bags under my eyes as my daytime naps are no more. boo hoo.
Good job I am going back to work soon then to cap it all off- I have just put my formal request in to work part time for the next few months so fingers crossed they'll go for it.

I want a long sleeping jag please, preferably in a jag on the way to the Plastic Surgeons for a de-bag (and maybe some lipo while you're there)

On the up side, I am now off painkillers for my poor old back and am starting to get out and about- first trip to m&s where I rewarded myself with mini- chocolate bites and percy pigs.

glad the Christening went well MrsD- hope the recommended wines went down well!

well ds sleeps likes daf-y's at night (now until about 7 with two feeds). day time is 2-4 45 minutes naps.

not too bad, but i prefer the night time waking to leave me a 5 hour jag in the middle or i'm in a poor way. thankfully, he still conks straight out after a night time feed and i don't have to nurse him to sleep in anyway. as i'm usually comatose myself then. xfx

Poor DD is teething, I'm sure. She has red cheeks, nappy rash (first time ever for her) and is screaming fit to burst. Has anyone found a miracle solution? I used some Boots camomile granules with the boys so I guess I'll see if they still do it. Poor little mite.

To answer the sleep question, she generally sleeps 8/9pm - 3am, then rather up and down until morning atm. After the 3am feed she frequently wants to snuggle up to me to get back to sleep. During the day it really depends on what I do after the school run. If I take her somewhere in the pram or car she has a good sleep of a couple of hours but she has recently become much more erratic. She usually also has a big sleep when the boys are having their supper/homework, whcih I'm sure doesn't help with the evenings but is too frantic a time for me to be able to deal with waking her .

DaF - we bought the champagne you recommended, and it was perfect and quite a few people commented on how much they liked it, so thank you very much indeed . I'm glad your poor back is feeling better. I vote for Beauty Flash Balm too! Also, Liz Earle's Hot Cloth Cleanser really brightens me up

Eulalia - your children's comments made me chuckle

this thread has gone maaaaaaad .

bagpuss, you really do need a mountian buggy! i love my urban one, though have yet to use it with the fixed wheel. dd is deliciously comfy in it, & it comes in very cool colours too. so important!

sleep-wise, dd goes to bed between 7 & 8 (in her cot, though this is a fairly recent innovation) & errr, sleeps until the morning. don't shout at me! well, she reckons about 6am is morning, but once she's fed she snuggles in bed with us & goes back to sleep until ds comes thundering upstairs. can't complain really . her sleep during the day really depends on what we're doing. we've been out a lot in the buggy today, so she slept lots, & then wanted to be cuddled all afternoon. still in bed now though!

dd has decided that anything that is within her reach is fair game. including the cat and my newspaper. i've got her one of those galt play rings which seems to be hitting the spot, though i reckon she won't be in it for long, there's a lot of twisting going on.

i went to look at a school for ds today, how can he almost be old enough?! however, dp is really miserable at work at the moment, so we're thinking of moving out of london .

Is it not too early for teething though? dd also is getting pinkish cheeks and is crying a bit more than usual. I thought we had a few months yet of relative peace...
