H2D - how lovely is she looking? She looks so old and wise!

OOh, puppy is gorgeous. Decided to call her Meg. She thinks ds is a fellow puppy and they charge around together. She thinks dd2s feet are fabulous for chewing so that could prove very interesting. Would post a pic merryberry but not the slightest idea on how to. Not sure how dd2 would feel me getting picture of puppy on here before I even managed to show her off to you all . Bagpuss, I have to say we had 2 cats and I found them very tying. Puppy feels (in theory) less so as so many people are offering to have her whilst we go on holiday etc whereas for cats it always meant getting someone to come in to the house which felt like a lot to ask when it was for more than a couple of days.

Just getting ready for Halloween. DD1 and ds want to dress dd2 up, but I am failing to think of a suitable that wont traumatise the poor girl!

dd's fine, asleep & with thumb firmly in place. she & ds have been playing together, she grabs his nose, he squeals, pulls away & the whole cycle repeats. i enjoy it very much!

my mum's coming tomorrow for a couple of days. cool. and the highlight of our weekend has been sorting out the utility room. wild!

Aww lovely photos hub

did well at the nearly new sale - spent £101! But got a new pushchair and clothes for all 3 plus a few bits and pieces for Christmas.

All ds's 3-6 month things are still far too big though.

Wondering whether to let ds1 out for trick or treating tonight - may not bother as he doesn't really know what's going on anyway.

previously known as Futility room, hub. i think dp might have dusted the tumble dryer, i left that bit to him .

Just me and ds2 here this morning. House feels very quiet!

Those are lovely photos Hub .

ds2 has learnt to blow raspberries which is very funny .

No plans for halloween, although ds1 is very excited. I may let him dress up and jump out at the trick or treaters later .

We have a week of medical appointments going on. DDs paed referred her to a neurologist, who we saw today. He wants to see her in about 3 months time and we have to go in next week for some blood and urine tests, which I wasn't expecting. He was also going to refer her to a physio, OT and speech therapist but when he examined her he said that he would probably get shouted at for wasting their time, as DD is developing so well . They also want my GP or HV to measure her head every 2 weeks . His view is that IF she does have problems, it is hugely to her advantage to catch them early. I guess it gives me a good way of coping with the fact that I would really rather not know about her brain abnormality and would never had known had I not opted for such a medicalised pregnancy.

We're seeing hte paed tomorrow.

So although we will be spending a lot more time with doctors than I would like, I can't fault the care they are giving us and when I imagine some of the heartbreak that must go on at the children's hospital, I realise that I am incredibly lucky indeed (cue to a soaring crescendo....)

Actually, Pagpuss, I thought of you as we were being seen at Alder Hey, round the corner from the cardio clinic.

Well that's my little musical moment for the evening. I'm sneaking off to bed - sneaking so the local thugs, temporarily in the guise of trick or treaters, don't realise we are in

I was talking to a friend about canapes for DD's christening and we spent the time sniggering about the idea of serving up pigs' trotters in madeira (one of the recipes we found)!

Harriett - your alcohol e-mail was incredibly helpful. You are a genius and a star

Thanks for the feedback on the photos. I took some fab ones yesterday of her being forced to play chess, and also her looking at a brightly coloured toy, I'll stick em in her next album for you, LOL.

mrsd - Every 2 weeks is fairly often for the head measurement, but it will provide a close analysis of how things are going. Will it always be done by the same person ? (Inter-operator differences can have a big sway on the numbers as they are obviously tracking milimetre by milimetre).

FWIW, it's got to be better to know about the risks, and be looking closely at dds first few months / year than trying to blindly chase the medics when she's older trying to find causes for some developmental or behavioural problem. Some of the saddest posts on MN I feel are those of a parent desparately trying to find out what's wrong with their lo, and fighting for access to the professional etc. etc.

It will be hard, and you won't, I'm sure 'relax' about her for a good while, but I hope in the long run you feel it was the best thing to do.

PS - hc - pmsl @ futility room. Brilliant.

Thanks Hub. I quite agree with you.

I have a lovely daughter who is being monitored very attentively and conscientiously - what do I have to complain about?

The pictures of Camille are v sweet.

Hello, Been trying to catch up but it's proving quite a mammoth task! I've had a break staying with my folks whilst dh looked after dd1, and also had an eating drinking weekend in France with dh whilst my folks looked after dd1. Time has just flown and I haven't been on here in ages.

When I was last on, pinkmamma you were having school run problems. That is something I dread. The logistics of getting small people, with their own time zones, to places on time is about as impossible as it gets. dd1 is never at nursery on time. I'm dreading it when she's expected to be somewhere for a certain time having had hair combed, been fed and wearing clean clothes. How do people do it??

I got as far as the baby seat discussion with my catch up. We've got a bumbo and I think its great. dd2 sits in it and watches "big sister" (as dd1 insists on being called!)

Will do some more catching up later. Very hard to do when I keep getting distracted by all the shopping links. Going to speak to dh about a buggy snuggle tonight....

Good luck with the paed Mrs D.

Lol on the futility room HC

I've taken some good pics of ds recently. One of him proped up in a chair 'reading' a large hardback book. Another yesterday of him stuffed into a dolls pushchair. In fact people keep thinking he is a doll as I often walk round the supermarket with dd and him tucked under my arm.

He's got a pumpkin top on just now which I got at the sale for 50p.

Just did a bit more catching up. Hub, Camille really is a cutie.

MrsD, hope all the hospital trips aren't too yucky and that they all turn out to be just a waste of time.

Off to get dd2 weighed now. Haven't been for about 4 weeks. Want to talk to teh health visitor too about why she is waking up more and more during the night. It's almost as if she needs weaning, but we're not supposed to do that now until they're 6 months? It used to be 4. Aarg. She just wants more and more milk. Dh calls me 'The dairy' now.

Mrsd . Cardio clinic not my favourite place but we now get seen at Macclesfield when the consultant visits there instead which is slightly better. I don't envy you all the appointments, but it sounds as if you are in good hands - Alder Hey is excellent IME. With a bit of luck it gets less as they get older too .

ds2 being very grumpy today - he sounds really hoarse. Any tips for administering calpol gratefully appreciated!

Belo · 01/11/2005 12:25

Does he take a dummy? Apparently you can get dummys which they suck the calpol/medicien too. Or, you can get syringe tpye things from a chemist.

dw and dd were just on the telly !!!!!!!

background here

It was funny seeing them on the screen ! dd hadn't had milk for HOURS so was somewhat grumpy, LOL

Report
mrsdarcy · 01/11/2005 16:20

oooh, how exciting! I haven't seen it as our telly is locked up in the attic atm, so do put it on the Hub Hall of Fame asap!

The paed appmt was fine - thanks all for asking. He doesn't need to see her for 5 months and also said that if she's still developing normally at 6 - 9 months the prognosis is v good - if there were to be any probs after that point they would probably be mild

Parents of girls - I am beginning to entertain the idea of buying baby clothes that aren't pink! Am I alone in this?

Report
Bagpuss30 · 01/11/2005 16:56

Missed it too hub - would love to see!

Great news mrsd . When you say buying clothes that aren't pink, do you mean purple .

ds2, currently being sick over his entire wardrobe and is mega grumpy because I have decided that sleepsuits are all I can be bothered with which means that he can't see his newest playthings - his feet!

dd is wearing pink cashmere trousers today . certainly not bought by me, passed on by a friend. i made sure she didn't want them back.... she doesn't wear that much pink actually, lots of red & orange, & a particularly lovely brown cord dress. god, i am so shallow. have even started ironing her stuff which has got pleats in: i am so not an ironer normally.

glad the appointment went well mrsd, it must be terribly stressful. fingers crossed dd carries on as she has been.

ds has been making great strides with his bike riding, round & round the park. next aim is to get the stabilisers off!

I've stuck up to the computer to get away from DS2! Every meal at the moment is such a battle. For months (especially when I was pregnant) I took the view that he would grow out of being so fussy, so I didn't make an issue of it, but he has got fussier and fussier and has honed down his Permissible Foods List to about 5 things . DH decided on holiday that we would get tough with him so DS2 is sitting in front of his meal under instructions not to move until he has had 1 forkfull. Needless to say, I have the joy of enforcing this as DH is stil at work.

He will stay there until he is dropping with exhaustion. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know as I reckon DS2 has got more staying power than I do!!
