OK, that cheered me up! Back to mopping brows and bottoms now.

hub2dee · 25/10/2005 20:20

hc !!!!!!

hoxtonchick · 25/10/2005 20:22

i am still pissed off, so have cancelled my standing order to oxfam .

hub2dee · 25/10/2005 20:28

oh, hc...

I can understand your frustration, but unfortunately I guess their stores need to be guided by H&S rulings / suggestions... In the same way that they can't / don't take electrical items IYSWIM...

I guess the theory is a child injured by a (used) buggy, or dumped in the middle of the road by a ripped seat etc. etc. would be too much of a risk.

I'm sure there's some local association / charity / family who'd want them. Maybe even a 'free for collection' on MN's For Sale board ?

hoxtonchick · 25/10/2005 20:30

don't worry hub, i was just being petulant. will reinstate standing order asap. i do understand the reasoning, but the woman was bloody rude, & i was clearly struggling with 3 buggies. and i reckon they know me in that oxfam as i donate so much stuff.

hub2dee · 25/10/2005 20:41

LOL... Can imagine you struggling with 3 buggies, LOL....

LOL, KVG...

Those Bumbos are always in people's list of 'most useless stuff you've bought' as well as 'best baby stuff you've bought' LOL... saw them at the show on Saturday, and dw wasn't convinced. Haven't actually tried them, but sure dd would enjoy it. I think maybe because so much baby stuff is used for such a short period of time people end up not liking things IYSWIM, when the product is actually good (if a bit over-priced) but only has a short useful ife...

Might find a second hand one so as not to put yet another lump of plastic into the dump...

Harriett · 26/10/2005 11:21

I have just bought a bumbo!!! so I'll let you know whether it was a useless piece of plastic- maybe we can just pass it round until someone finds it useful!

Bagpuss30 · 27/10/2005 09:25

We have a Bumbo too! MIL bought it as a gift for ds2 when he was born (so at least I didn't have to shell out for it ). We have just started using it for short periods of time when ds2 wants to be more upright, and on the whole he loves it. He was a bit confused at first as to why he couldn't lean back in it but has got used to it quite quickly.

Went into town yesterday and spent £80 on kids shoes - my children have the most expensive feet ever! Feeling very poor now.

Hub, love those links you put up on the last thread - funnily enough I was googling for those exact hats the other day as our local children's clothes emporium doen't stock them anymore, which is typical now that I actually have a baby to wear one.

DS2 managed to roll from front to back the other day and I am suddenly finding him over the other side of his lambskin mat from where I left him.

hub2dee · 27/10/2005 12:24

The hats say 'Merry Berries' inside on the label. I just googled that AND strawberry to find a few suppliers.

Someone living close by posted a 'free ! Baby bouncer' ad and I've just set up the unit in the door to our living room ! Will be fun to see what dd makes of it. Probably needs her to be a tad older, but her neck control and general muscle tone is already quite good.

LOL@ you escaping paying for your bumbo, Bagpuss

ooooh... there was one link I failed to post. It was one of the more interesting stands:

Waterbaby.co.uk do underwater photography of babies swimming !!!!!!!! The shots in their gallery look awesome. At the show they had a promo IIRC of a session, plus one 6X4 piccy at £40 instead of £59 I think. Of course the bigger pictures will be $$$, but it's probably a v. v. interesting experience. They do their sessions in different kiddy pools across the country which are warm enough for the babies, and only 4-6 babbas per teacher IYSWIM, and the photographer is in the pool.

I can buy a waterproof enclosure for my digital SLR camera (but that's also bl**dy expensive) and do similar shots, but I think we'll deffo sign up for a session to learn how the pros do it.

Bagpuss30 · 27/10/2005 16:20

Hub, that looks interesting. Has anyone had an Imprints session at John Lewis yet? I forgot to mention it but ds2 had his about 3 weeks ago. I had the other two children done 3 years ago and have the prints hanging next to my bed. I can't wait to collect ds2's so that I can have the full set . Its here for anyone interested.

Bagpuss30 · 27/10/2005 16:27

Oh, Hub, forgot to say that bouncer will be fine from 3 months I think but my HV said something about no more than 15 mins at a time.

ds2 has one of these which I can highly recommend despite its grotesqueness. Right will stop posting links now and go.

hub2dee · 27/10/2005 17:00

Oh Bagpuss, that is hideous LOL.

Yeah, I think dd might be a tad too young / small for the bouncer, but we'll try it out being gentle, and not spend long in it to start with.

merryberry · 27/10/2005 18:33

blimey, is that baby hitler reincarnated in lime dungies there bp ???

AussieSim · 28/10/2005 04:09

Hi guys
Thanks for the look at the gym bagpuss. I have bought a Galt playnest 2nd hand off ebay as I remember reading on here that it was great. Poor DS1 had to make do with a clothes basket. I think I will have a look on ebay for a bumbo too. News our end is that DS2 is 4mths old tomorrow and rolled over this morning from back to front when I left him on the floor to watch DS1 playing with his trains. I was so excited because DS1 only rolled over at 7mths and got on the phone immediately to my DH who just sighed at having missed yet another 'first'.

Bye for now, Sim

Harriett · 28/10/2005 11:23

bagpuss- I have my eye on that carnival thing too! it does look horrible but apparently they just go nuts for it! dd is getting a bit bored of her bouncy chair so I thought I'd treat her to that. she is also getting one of those rocking bears from igloo for Christmas- I know it's for 12 months plus but my sister can't resist it! we'll have to tape her on with duct tape or something . the only problem is... where are we going to keep it all?!
ps sorry for lack of capital letters- dd is playing computers too.

Bagpuss30 · 28/10/2005 17:09

Snort @ baby hitler MB .

ds2 going nuts under gym as I type, Harriett. Have you seen the rocking animals from M&P? Theirs are suitable from 9 months I think. DD got one when she was 8 months as we have a shop nearby and I couldn't resist . There are definitely more shopping opportunities for girls though - went to Mothercare today for a few bits and ended up being sidetracked by the girls clothes somewhat. It took me ages to find something for ds2, that was a) big enough and b) wasn't khaki or navy blue.

pinkmama · 29/10/2005 07:21

Hi everyone, just returned from my half term trip to refill my lungs with yorkshire air and spend some lovely time with my gorgeous sister. My usual homesickness has been spared by fact that we are picking up a puppy today! Thought we would make our lives that bit more complicated and poo filled . We have wanted one for ever but thought now was probably a really good time. I will be at home for forseable future and our lives get increasingly restricted by kids we might as well saddle ourself with dog as well. She is beautiful boxer and pick her up this morning. Still struggling with a name though. Its harder than naming the kids!

dd2 is a real joy at the moment, so much more interactive, but at you all with sleepers. She occassionally does from 11-5 but she is up all evening with us and more often than not will have a feed around 3 as well. I dont feel particularly tired as she feeds well and goes straight back off, but we have been so so bad at putting her in her cot, and so she still sleeps with us.

Hope all is well again at yours MB.

HC - missing you!

Eulalia · 29/10/2005 09:43

Hello again - just skimmed the threads to try and catch up.

Good luck with the puppy pinkmama - you are brave!

Merryberry - your pics are lovely - I watched the whole slideshow. Only got as far as getting my ds's feet wet but plan to take him swimming soon. There was a pool where we went (near Murcia) but it was a bit cold and with the other two kids to watch it made it a bit impractible. How is your dad? My dh had a heart bypass operation 10 years ago before our 3 kids! Still has to take lots of pills though. My dad also had one and is doing fine at 79.

ds2 is 3 months old today He's still a bit on the little side. HV didn't have her scales but I weighed him on digital ones at my parents and he is around 12lbs. And I guess I'll make you as I am only 4lbs above my pre-pregnancy weight.... still you probably don't want to have my older two to run after...

Off to a nearly new sale today to get some bargains.

Eulalia · 29/10/2005 09:44

impractible - don't know if is a real word ! lol

merryberry · 29/10/2005 11:21

hi all thanks for your kind wishes. my dad is chugging along OK eulalia, going to spend the weekend with him on the 12th and raise his BP then...

vin is fine and dandy now but my cold settled on my chest and i'm struggling. dp really managed to give me the day off yesterday tho - made all decisions, coped all day long and presented me with son at feeding times only. spent morning asleep. joy. am necking covonia to let me sleep. working well, just hoping Vin isn't poinsoned for life via breastmilk etc etc.

can tell am getting better as want to shop. hurray, they are back from PO now, let's see how they are doing:-)

we want a dog too PM...plan to when we buy our place (year or two yet). Boxers are such grand dogs, hope you have fun (and please posta puppy pic if you can!)

Hey guys, back from holidays to a house full of builders' dust, a mountain of laundry, a frantic week of appointments and a party for 120 to plan for next Sunday, so I'm tackling the most important thing first - catching up on MN!

Hub - DD and I are doing the water baby swimming lessons. We have a great time. I can't wait for the photo session.

Bagpuss, the gym is truly hideous! I can imagine that babies love it though. We haven't lived in our house for long and the decoration is gross, so we may as well add to the overall effect with beastly plastic primary colours!

My boys didn't roll over at all, until they were so active that you wouldn't really notice IYSWIM, so I'm not holding my breath for DD to do it. She's too busy giggling at DS2 picking his nose anyway

Bagpuss30 · 30/10/2005 12:00

Welcome back mrsd! Yes, my living room is supposed to be gold and sand colours with chocolate brown leather sofa. The baby gym doesn't exactly fit in! Just when I'd managed to get the other children's toys into their bedrooms and I'm now back to square one!

pm, I think you are very brave getting a dog. We had a cat before ds1 was born but I found that quite a tie and so he was rehomed (cat not baby!). My dd would love a pet however, and keeps pestering us - I keep telling her she's got a baby brother instead .

hub2dee · 30/10/2005 13:01

hi all, welcome back half termers.

mrsd, do tell us how she gets along in the classes, when she does her first submerged face / doggy paddle thingy to mum etc. and I'd love to see any pictures you get taken !

cackle: are you a fellow asthmatic ? I get colds and sometimes shake them off, but sometimes they descend down and make me a miserable git for several days. hack hack splutter splutter. Let's both agree to be fine by Wednesday night, OK ? LOL.

I've just uploaded a new album for Camille here ('9 - 16 weeks') if anyone is curious.
