Hello Ladies... hope everyone's weekend was lovely. I watched the wedding highlights Saturday afternoon. Perfectly low key for such a big shebang, if that's possible. P William strikes me as having a bit of cheekiness like P Philip. Anyhow, it was lovely. Funny to see a couple of pictures of the crowds and see some Vancouver Canuck flags in the crowd... they are a hockey team and went to next round of playoffs.

DH's restaurant did first brunch today... nice Italian style. I had eggs but DD had eggy pannetonne with amaretto maple syrup... so good.

The last few days I'm feeling stuffed. Its getting uncomfortable to sit, much better to stand and walk. 4 weeks left! Phew!

Ciao for now.

GotArt · 02/05/2011 22:32

tumbleweed

Went and voted today!

Stopped at a furniture store to look at coffee tables and bed sets for DD.

Came home, had nice lunch.

Baking a kiwi coffee cake right now, counting down the last 9 minutes.

Will bake some cookies when DD and DH get up from naps. May jump into bed for a wee nap myself.

Can't wait for sausages for dinner.

(8 minutes...)

Hey GotArt, Pat and Lenni

Nothing happening here, just study study study. Just found another essay thing. Only 1000 words but still

Been on nights although was off last night I still feel hungover. Just had a shody chinese take away too Hmm

Oooo really glad you got the relatives visiting thing sorted GotArt Smile Excellent news, glad dh and your sil were onside.

AM bored of working, studying and all that jazz.

treedelivery · 02/05/2011 23:08

Oh and I would love some opinions? Dd1 isn't terribly happy at school. She'd just rather be home and she does have a nive time at school but isn't really gelling with anyone. Especially her table. The tables are streamed according to ability.
I'm thinking of asking her teacher to move her. I'd rather she lost a bit of streaming but was in a happier mindset you know? Having said that dd already says school is easy and the maths and literacy is simple blah blah blah. SO if she goes down a table or two then maybe she'll be utterly left behind and bored?

Whadyathink?

moosemama · 02/05/2011 23:13

Hi all

Its been a looong weekend here with ds1 making it fun for all. Hmm

Fortunately, he seemed to take on board the last telling off and 'consquence' for his most recent misdemeanour (I'm not even going to start trying to explain) and we had a lovely day today. We took the dcs to a pinic site near Stratford in the camper, stuffed our chops, then walked up the river into Stratford in town, bought ice-creams and walked back. It was really nice, but I'm paying for it now and will probably pay double for it tomorrow.

Spent last night making raggy bunting for the camper with dh and watching a really old 'Carry on Camping' that neither of us had ever seen before - so non-pc, but we still both laughed - lots! Blush I still have dd's tutu to make, but all the fabric and ribbon is here, so I'm hoping to do it tomorrow.

Boys are back at school tomorrow and Wednesday, then off again for polling on Thursday and back in on Friday. All this chopping and changing is really messing ds1 around and I keep forgetting what day of the week it is. Blush

Tree, I hate it when you are looking forward to a takeaway and its crappy. Sorry life is being one long study session for you at the moment. No advice I'm afraid, other than to keep your eyes on the prize - it will be worth it in the end.

moosemama · 02/05/2011 23:19

Cross posted.

That's a toughie. Ds2 has been held back a group, despite being more than capable of being in the top group, because he has low self-confidence and all his friends are in the lower group. His teacher agreed that at this stage, confidence building is as important as ability and we both felt it would overface and unsettle him to move him. That said, he would be moving to a different classroom rather than just a new table.

Does she have a particular friend she'd like to sit near?

Ds1 had to be moved away from his best friend so that he could have an ASD appropriate work station and sit at a better angle to see the board (for his visual issues). They set it up so his best friend sits directly behind him on another table, so that he doesn't feel totally cut off from him. It seems to work for them.

I would be inclined to ask some questions though. If she is having time to feel bored and upset at her table, it could well be that the work is too easy for her and if she moved up a group she would be more busy and have less time to stress. Or is she already on the top table? That would obviously make it harder.

treedelivery · 02/05/2011 23:44

Oo Moose the day out in the camper sounds magic.

Yes she's on the top table anyway. I'm meeting teacher this week will see what she says. See I think I'd happily sacrifice the academic stuff for her to be compfortable and happy. In fact, I bet she would learn lots on a mixed table where she could help others and perhaps forge more of a leader role. Helping others complete their worksheets etc. TBH I don't see any great stretching going on anyway. I've taught be base 10 and stuff like that myself.

we'll see.

Hope ds1 is ok Moose. At least all the big disruptions are over, we only have a half term and a sports day before summer so it's all settling down. No polling day off for us Sad

Tell you what about dd1 though, she is still really prone to writing her letters and especially numbers backwards, adnn she is complaining about having to write. He writing and colouring in are really terrible and she says writing hurts her hand. Must keep an eye on her.

tinkbig · 03/05/2011 10:32

hi ladies

nice weekend here with dhs parents
hi mm camper trip sounds good
dd1 is off thurs for polling 2 cant wait till they r back for a full wk again

moosemama · 03/05/2011 12:17

Tree, its normal for them to still be reversing letters right up until Juniors. Schools only worry when they persist after the age of 8 - I know this because ds2 still reverses a lot of his letters and does occasional mirror writing. I have raised it with the school in an ' I want it monitored - sort of way, but I know they won't even test for dyslexia until year 3.

A friend of mine is the chair of the board for a dyslexia charity in her area. She has severe dyslexia and dyspraxia and her dd also has severe dyslexia - she's a really useful source of information on this subject. Wink

If her hand is hurting - it could be either her pencil grip or possibly her sitting position. The OT told me that lots of children are too rigid in their shoulder and wrist so it starts to hurt when they write anything more than a few words. I've found with ds that reminding him to relax his hand and arm helps. They need to learn to relax and move their whole arm rather than just their forearm and wrist to get a nice flow going and prevent hand/wrist ache.

I think you sound like you have a good plan re the table thing. I know that ds2 has definitely benefitted from being staying in the lower group. They took him out to try a level 3 sat paper just before the holiday and it really upset him, he just didn't have the self-confidence to believe he could do it. He's actually more than capable, but panics/freezes when he feels overfaced.

Morning Tink, glad to hear you had a nice weekend with the ILs. I'm also looking to the boys being at school for a whole week next week.

Teaandcakeplease · 03/05/2011 21:56

Real life is intruding at the moment and I'm not remotely managing to keep up with mumsnet. But just wanted to pop my head in and say hello! Smile

Off to bed in a mo as the DCs are waking soooooooo early since Scotland still.

I feel the same about not keeping up with MN... well, just my other May 2011 thread... they're all popping now! I'm overwhelmed with all the info. Grin

Anyhow, had a nice day today. Decided to go to Goldstream Park for a walk to the nature hut and then back for a picnic lunch. Couple mum friends joined me; they've never thought about taking their little ones there before. The nature hut has some great little hands on exhibits for kids their age. I take DD all the time. She will happily poke around at things at the nature hut and throw rocks in the river until the sun goes down. It turned into a nice day, DD and I napped for 3 hours, went to grocery store, got pizza for dinner, which she told everyone about at the grocery store that we were having it for dinner, pointing at it saying "Pizza, dinnertime" at unsuspecting passerbyers, as she carried it throughout... she insisted on carrying it, like she was making sure I wasn't fooling her, Grin had ice cream and cherries I canned from last summer, we showered together, which I love to do really and she thinks its pretty special, and just got her into bed... 9.20! Shock Well after her bedtime but she had a big nap today.

Also very happy because she got into the swimming class she was wait-listed for starting in July. DH is going to be doing it with her on Monday nights. Music class starts in September. Next thing you know, we'll be signing her up for kindergarten... Shock

Tree Some children thrive better having that outlet to help other children with their work... would be good to talk to teacher about that as a trial run or something.

Ciao for now Ladies.

tinkbig · 06/05/2011 10:11

morning Grin

hi 120 and gotart and all u other lovely ladies Grin

Teaandcakeplease · 06/05/2011 19:30

Still alive but still out of touch with mumsnet Blush

Stripping my nasty old fashioned textured wall paper in my bedroom at last after talking for almost a year about it. Plan to put up lining paper and paint it then an "old rose" B&Q colour, going totally girly in my room. Made some money on ebay this month selling things and decided it was time to do it Grin

Knackered at the moment. Good and bad days with ExH and the ongoing saga with OW imminent move down here.

120 · 07/05/2011 11:20

morning all. so quiet on here! Tea sorry to hear about your saga.

Can't believe it's a month until we move. Both scary and exciting though.

hackneyzoo · 07/05/2011 15:59

hope all is good, haven't had a chance to mn for a while so will attempt to catch up.

We put an offer in on a house in Newcastle yesterday and it was accepted so am super excited and slightly terrified at the same time. Pretty happy to be leaving London as we only ever planned to be here for a few years as we inerited my mums house so it made sense. Terrified at the amount of work and organisation, worried about finding decent tennants for the house, sad to be leaving all my lovely london mates (120 we must do much drinking!)...in love with new house, just need to furnish it, decorate, move, find school for Lil, oh, and get jobs!

Been all over the place, seeing lots of my Pa, who is hanging on in there. Just read 'The warmth of the heart stops the body from rusting', really recommend it if you have ageing parents, its very sensitive and insightful.

Off yurting for a week next Friday in Cornwall....Dog, do you fancy a pint meet up? We could swing your way if you fancied it?

I go back to work in 3 weeks, hebe will be 18 weeks, really don't want to, but if I don't work for a full 13 weeks before I leave I have to pay a ton of money back. She won't take a bottle at all...any ideas? I have nuk bottles, any other suggestions?

Tree, I am excited, we could have a York meet up in the autumn!

Am actually pretty exhausted, have a hangover sore throat I can't shift at all, and too much stuff to do.

Gotart, hope you are surviving the final few weeks. MissJ, how is N2 doing? Stripey, good news about the scan, when is your due date?

DD1 and DS are exhausting at the moment, they play really well together for half the time and the rest of the time is mayhem/ bickering/ fighting, all very tedious, hope this is just a phase and not the pattern for the next 15 years. They are very sweet and miss each other when one is at school or nursery, but man do they bicker! Luckily DD3 is a breeze, otherwise I'd be screwed! Grin

Right, the park is beckoning. Sorry for complete me me me post and Hello to tree, moose, tink, pat, lenni, tea and everyone else !

Teaandcakeplease · 07/05/2011 20:32

Wow HKZ exciting stuff about the move.

No advice on weaning onto a bottle from me. I read lots of ideas and tried them all with DS until something worked.

Having an odd moment with ebay if any of you have any calming suggestions about my paranoia Blush: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/ebay/1209500-User-information-request

GotArt · 08/05/2011 07:04

Good Sunday morning to you all.

Well, I've just had a close up look at what is quite possibly the ugliest thing in the world; my vagina! Oh gad! When did it get so ugly?!!! (I decided to shave instead of getting waxed and had to use a little mirror as I couldn't get a good enough look over the belly). Well, I'm off to bed to wallow in self pity and dream of vaginal reconstructive surgery.
