User information request

Someone won an item from me which was collection only. I messaged them on the day they won providing my full address and asking them to let me know when they would collect, so I could make sure I was in. Move forward 24 hours after not hearing a peep and I have an answer phone message on my home phone from her. Truthfully I found it disturbing as I'd just walked in the door and knew for a fact that I hadn't given out my home phone number to her, I hadn't even heard back from her yet on when she planned to come.

I then switch on my home pc and discover she'd made a user information request from ebay, who had given her my home phone number.

I had no idea ebay did this to be honest as I've only sold about 15 things on there in the last 2 months, so I'm still a relative novice.

She's now pushing for my mobile number too, as her partner is driving to me from London and wants to keep me updated if he gets stuck in traffic etc.

I'm feeling really unsettled now as I feel like ebay breeched my privacy. I think as I'm a lone parent and live alone with the children I like to keep those details private until I feel more comfortable with the buyer as we communicate and I also do not like to say when exactly I will be out. As I do not want to tempt fate burglary

I think I now sound neurotic and paranoid, as I often do give out my home phone number in case people get lost. But it's usually several messages in after they've confirmed what day and roughly what time they're coming. She hadn't even sent me one message but had gone straight to requesting my contact details from ebay.

I keep telling myself that some people prefer to chat on the phone to arrange collection and it's no big deal. So can someone reassure me about it all. As it's actually put me off ebay now that they can so easily give out my home phone number to someone. And the fact this buyer won't give me a rough eta give or take traffic problems I'm also finding odd too.

it's standard, especially for a collection item.

don't worry!

Hey Tea

She has your home phone; she doesn't need your cell number. Don't give it out.

But it is easy to find phone numbers, unless unlisted, on the internet if you have an address and name too.

Sometimes being overly cautious is a good thing. Smile Glad it all worked out fine.
