cherub59 · 20/06/2011 08:28

Catherine - you are so right! Particularly when he's has his fill, pushes back, looks at me adoringly and says "ah goo"!!! If only they would stay so cute! Had v trying breakfast with 3rd old and 2 yr old who whined non stop.....

Cheeseandbiscuits · 20/06/2011 10:04

shredding I am in London but can't make that date unfortunately.
sam Izzy loves watching me eat. She also grabbed a piece of tomato off my plate....Might not be long before we wean but will try my best to delay the inevitable. I have looked at BLW but don't think we will get to 6 months so will do a combo of puree and BLW. Glad Cassie enjoyed her swim, Izzy loves it too. Have you got one of those neoprene vests, keeps them warm in the water so they can stay in for longer.

cherub and catherine sorry for crappy nights

Poor Izzy is poorly; cough, cold and diarrhoea. Happy as Larry with it though so I am not too worried. So quiet girlie day at home today, which we never do....think we may both go stircrazy later!

sam26oscar · 20/06/2011 10:50

Sad poor Izzy, i know how you feel about a day at home though!! I've got to wait in for shower engineer and not sure how i'm going to cope!! Hopefully he will be here before the school run so at least i can take Cassie for a breath of fresh air! Cheeseandbiscuits just the excuse i was looking for to go on ebay for Grin that can be my project today whilst waiting for showerman and in between listening to Cassie trying to go to sleep by herself in the alien cot...well during the day its alien as we are always out!! shes just woke up after 40 mins how do i get her to sleep longer than that?? thats all she will sleep for unless shes in my arms.ah well feeding time again Smile

Cheeseandbiscuits · 20/06/2011 11:32

Hi sam glad someone else is stuck indoors! Oh yes, I can recommend the neoprene suits. We got ours from jojo mamam bebe. I'm also unsure how to get Izzy to sleep in her cot at lunchtime. We are always out. yawn! I've got half an hour before she will nap so she is happily playing on her playgym! Giggle giggle!

sam26oscar · 20/06/2011 13:17

cheese hope Izzy slept in her cot for you ok!! it only took cassie 10 min whinge then she went off, i am now holding her snuggled on sofa watching Loose Women knowing she will sleep for over 1hr like this!!

Cheeseandbiscuits · 20/06/2011 13:58

She slept 45min, normally if we are out she will sleep for 2 hours! She'll be a right grizzlebum in a bit! Enjoy your snuggle! Izz rarely sleeps on me now, she thinks its playtime!

sam26oscar · 20/06/2011 15:01

Yep...its 3 o'clock school pick up, how do you know that??? Cos its bloody raining Angry !!!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 20/06/2011 16:43

Shredding - I am still up for it. TBH with meeting for the first time sometimes a smaller number is nice as it isnt so daunting. It will be fine. Will post back there and we can decide exactly where and what time etc.

sam26oscar · 21/06/2011 07:20

Wow, where did everyone go???!!
Well, got to wait in again for the showerman who should be here at 9am...we'll see! Better be as i have arranged coffee with friends Grin

I really hope none of your LO's go through this sleep regression it is hell Sad
Cassie previously was doing 7.30pm - 3-4am. last night 7.30pm bed, feed 11pm, feed 2am feed 5am up for the day 6am ( no sign for haggard mummy with red bleary eyes) !! Really not sure a) how long this "phase" lasts b) if i can do it for much longer!! Now understand why people wean at this stage..anything to get them to sleep longer again! I don't think she woke that often as a newborn!!

hope everyone has had better night than us... have lovely day Grin

cherub59 · 21/06/2011 08:04

Sam - that's normal for me bar the 11pm feed! You have my sympathy!
Hope your shower man comes.....

Cheeseandbiscuits · 21/06/2011 08:38

Oh god sam and cherub that sounds jolly hard work. You have my sympathies. How many weeks is Cassie, could it be a growth spurt?

Izzy still snotty but we're going out nonetheless. Will miss m&B yoga (she doesnt particularly like it anyway) but will go for a walk..maybe to a shopping centre...! Might treat her to some new bits as she has been poorly!

Muser · 21/06/2011 09:20

There is a growth spurt at 16 weeks/4 months that lasts for ever. I think it's tied in with the sleep regression. 18 weeks today and we're still not out of it. I have read that it passes at 19 weeks as that's a wonder week (when they make a big developmental leap forward). Will have to wait and see.

Did have a better night last night, but she's fooled me before with this in the last weeks! It was 8.30pm-2.30am, 3am-5.30am, 6am-8.30am.

OP posts:
Medee · 21/06/2011 09:42

Poor you muser. My newly arrived copy of the wonder weeks says you count from due date not birth date, but you are right, it is a massive spurt at 4 months.

Muser · 21/06/2011 10:36

I know wonder weeks are meant to go by due date, but we definitely have a crazy growth spurt going on. And I'm hoping that I don't have another 2 weeks of lack of sleep.

OP posts:
Cheeseandbiscuits · 21/06/2011 10:44

That would make sense, we are 16 weeks old tomorrow and no sign of any regression yet...she was 3 weeks early so time will tell! Hope things improve muser, sounds tough as hell.

Muser · 21/06/2011 11:10

It could be worse. I know people who've been on 3 hourly wake ups from the start. I think there's a lot going on at this point that can make sleep go bad. Growth spurts, being more distracted in the day so not feeding as well, deciding that 3am is a great time to try and learn to roll over. I'm sure it will pass eventually.

OP posts:
KPidgeon · 21/06/2011 11:37

Does anyone know if there is also a growth spurt at 12 weeks? I think we're one of the younger ones on here (baby-age!) I am having nightmare nights at the moment. E is feeding every 2 hours. He is very long for his age but if this goes on I may have to introduce a formula feed before he goes down for the night because I can't keep up with this and function in the day. Reeally don't want to do this but I can't introduce babyrice until 17 weeks can I. And that's over 5 weeks away for us.

Last night it was 7.30pm, 9.30pm, 12, then top up at 1am (arggh), 3am, 5.30am. Little blighter.

He's also feeding every 2 hours in the day.

Anyone else have this at 12 weeks?

He went 6 days without a pooh last week (normally he's every 3 days) so it doesn't look like any bit of my milk is going to waste!

Thanks folks.

Did have a funny moment this morning though. He was feeding at 7.30am and accidentally came off my boob and the milk was squirting all over his little face- he looked totally confused!

Hope the meet up in London goes well. Gutted I can't be there but it's just too far to go (am in Sussex now)

cherub59 · 21/06/2011 13:59

Kpidgeon - we are really similar to you at 14 weeks.

Been referred to a breast surgeon to check my mastitis isn't an abscess.... Went to dr this morning as antibiotics finished on Sunday and have started getting hot and sweaty again and my boob v itchy with a small lump still there... Ick

Anyhow appt this afternoon at the hospital .... All very efficient thanks to dh health insurance. First time I've ever used it!

Fingers crossed I just need more antibiotics and nothing else.....

haloflo · 21/06/2011 14:35

kpidgeon Yep, aparently there is a growth spurt at 3 months. Hope it passes quickly!

cherub I hope the appointment goes ok - brillant that you have insurance. Fingers crossed its not an absess or the reoccurance of mastitus.

Sorry to hear about the sleep deprivation all round. Hannah is currently on 3 hourly feeds which I can cope with but this weekend was awful!

I was sick Friday night, recovered Saturday. DP was very sick Sunday night and all day yesterday. I could not sleep next a moaning groaning sick person & neither could Hannah so at 5am rang my dad very upset. He picked me up and allowed me to sleep for 2 hours whilst he took Hannah. I was a zombie yesterday! Early night last night and I feel a bit better today. (A lie would have nice Hannah, although i'll give her half 6!) I gave my dad his fathers day present yesterday and never has it seemed more relevant! (Just to point out he is always up at 6, sometimes as early as 5 and doesn't work so I decided he was my best bet.)

I think DP will be ok today but he needs to build his strength back up after not eating a thing yesterday so i'm on sole baby duty.

She is a bit grumpy today and fighting naptimes. She also gets cabin fever but i've not had the energy for much walking or socialising over the last few days. She is currently happy playing on her bouncy chair so i'm just taking a few minutes out.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 21/06/2011 16:01

Kpidgeon we had that and thought we may be heading for weaning..but now she is 15 weeks she has snapped out of it, it lasted 5-7 days.

cherub hope it goes ok, fingers crossed for you

halo sorry to hear you have been poorly, hope you get better soon!

haloflo · 21/06/2011 16:11

Just a note on question weaning - isn't baby rice etc less calories than milk? I read that introducing solids early often doesn't stop night wakings as it takes a while for enough food to be eaten to match the calories milk contains? Is this right/wrong? My HV said she would talk about weaning with me next month (Hannah is only 12 weeks!) and I want to be in the know.

Cheeseandbiscuits · 21/06/2011 16:35

Yeh thats what i thought too, and it def doesn't keepthem going longer!

I personally don't see the point in weaning at 17 wees, or using it as an exact date to start weaning. I think just wean when they are ready ie demanding more and more milk, grabbing food and most importantly able to sit up! Don't really see the point in feeding a child anything other than milk if they can't sit up to digest it!!
A week ago, Izzy was grabbing food etc but seems to have settled now.Its a big change and I want to delay it as long as possible!
Having said that, thats just my opnion....every bsby is different!

Muser · 21/06/2011 16:42

That's what I understand about weaning as well. And that not sleeping through isn't a sign that a baby is ready for weaning. Sitting up by themselves, losing the tongue thrust reflex and grabbing food are signs. Personally I want to delay as long as possible as it's a whole new load of work! I also want to try baby led weaning, so that's more reason to wait.

Lozario · 21/06/2011 21:05

Lara had her 12 week imms today, I gave her calpol beforehand to ease any side-effects and she promptly spat it out so I don't think she'll be ready for solids for a long while - I was like, are you MAD??! Calpol is LUSH! ;-)

Muser what's the tongue-thrust reflex? I did a bit of BLW with DS, it was funny to watch him gnawing on chinks of turkey at Christmas when he was 6 months old! I did purees too but pretty much always gave him things from my plate to have a go on and he's a good eater now so I think it's a good idea.

KPidgeon We're on the young side too as Lara was born 1st April in the end. She's fed every two hours today, sometimes again after an hour. Not at night though thank god. I definitely feel she's going through a growth spurt though but it is also warm today and I think she gets thirsty.

haloflo illness sounds horrible, poor you :( We have a nap-fighter here too. She only really naps for 45 mins at a time, max. I'm still slogging away with it though, I hate having an over-tired baby, her little eyes all red-rimmed!

cherub good luck for your appointment, hope all is ok.

London Meet - I do still want to come but I'm quite scared about coming into town with Lara AND the newly-two-year-old DS... especially after our nightmare trip to the NHM and that was with DH!!! So I will have a think about the logistics. :)

Muser · 21/06/2011 21:14

I had to google this as I wasn't sure myself Lozario, but tongue thrust reflex is one that helps to stop them choking at first. Basically if something unfamiliar goes on their tongue they poke it out rather than bringing it in. I'm guessing that must make feeding quite hard as they'll just push it all back out again!

Where do you get in to in London? Maybe someone could come and meet you and help.
