Cosmosis · 10/03/2011 12:33

sorry that sounded well bossy, got sidetracked by small boy! I meant to add that rather than dropping feeds, a lot of my rl friends further down the line with weaning have found their baybees have increased night feeds when started solids!

CurlyCasper · 10/03/2011 12:39

I have to say, that Squeaks's milk feeding has improved with weaning. Sometimes she's a real PITA to give milk to. But yesterday she downed 150ml in about two minutes. Then conked out.

SilverSky · 10/03/2011 13:22

costarica I take what my hv says with pinch of salt. As she told me then that ebf would not sustain MB and I'd have to consider formula. I'm not anti FF however I'd like to avoid it where poss cos if MBs skin tis all. When she said that it put me off her. Then yday she told me how well I was doing with ebf only. TBH I am going to do exactly what I want wrt bf'ing etc. Like you say tho I am concerned that other muvvers will take her advice as gospel.

SilverSky · 10/03/2011 13:39

Can I ask wrt naps - I'm starting to put MB in his cot. Some days with success sometimes not. Anyone have a nap routine? Mine seems to be wait til showing tired signs, fall asleep on me and sneak child into cot. Do you put a blanket on for naps etc?

Backinthebox · 10/03/2011 13:43

Oh yes, Cos. Cluck will confirm that weaning in this household has resulted in No Sleep At All for a few nights. Of course my baybee is charming and funny and cute, but I do not want to hear him gurgling with delight right by my ear at 3am. I'd put him in his own room, but the sodding fuckity bloody council are incommunicado on the subject of signing off our listed building consent. Every time I go into the office/phone them/email them, the right person is never about. Then when I get hold of them they tell me they are the wrong person, but the next right person isn't in till next week, etc, etc. Plus noone seems to have as bad luck with lost or late post as the council does. Funny that. Hmm So LG still doesn't have a bedroom to call his own.

Anyway. To add to the lovely giggly 3am LG, I also have a clever, witty and ingenious 3 year old, who has learnt to re-programme the monkey clock we bought her. Monkey opens his eyes at a time selected by the parents, we chose 7.15am. Child may not disturb parents before monkey opens his eyes. Genius daughter has learnt to change the time and has changed it to 6am. So what with no sleep till 3 and then up again at 6, I am verging on the edge of loopy atm.

Last night Clucky took me t'pub though, for a bit of grown up conversation. We had huge slabs of steak that was so nearly alive we had to tie it to the plates, with blue cheese sauce and a glass of vino tinto, all served up by our favourite gay barman. We talked horses. It was lovely.

Alps bummer you can't come to the meet, but your family would probably throw a wobbly if you blew them off to go a see women you mainly know from t'internet.

Muse and Silv my doing BLW was primarily out of laziness and an aversion to processed food. I just slapped stuff in front of TT while I ate and watched her stuff it in her mouth. It all went well till OH caught her eating cauliflower and proceeded to foist his own food weirdness on her, and she has been a picky eater since. It works out OK though - Little Chick clears up whatever TT leaves. We just can't figure out why LC is half the size of TT! With LG I am letting him ram things in his mouth (breadsticks and hummous went down well today) while occasionally spooning a bit of pureed something or other into him. His favourite food so far seems to be TT's drawing paper. Hmm

Muse of course you need a mei tai. Even if the baybee hates it, they are a lovely fashion accessory Grin I have a khaki green one, a bright blue one, and a brown and light green one currently on loan to Clucky. They are fab - I find myself with LG tied to my back and the shopping in the pram quite often!

Finally, FESHes, a bit of good news chez Box. OH has discovered I have staff travel from work. It's only taken 12 years for him to realise that we can blatt around the world in luxury for relatively little money. So we have just booked our first family summer holiday - 10 days in all inclusive Carribean luxury. They have a nursery for babies and a toddlers club, for while I indulge in a bit of waterskiing followed by cocktails. And they bring you dinner in your room (with more cocktails) if your kids crash out early. Bliss! And the other good news is ma Jennie has given me an unmarked brown envelope full of used notes in exchange for being allowed to take the racehorse off my hands. Hurray! She will still be doing my mucking out in exchange for a free stable.

Phew! Can you tell LG is having a rare nap? Grin

Muser · 10/03/2011 13:48

I am green with envy at holiday Boxy, GREEN.

But I am being consoled by having naughtily ordered the Mei Tai. I hope it comes soon.

Backinthebox · 10/03/2011 13:49

PS meant to say the Ellas Kitchen and Plum Baby stuff is good but pricey for jar-haters who have to lower their standards (ie, me!) I'd cook up some fruit and veg and freeze it, but frankly am too knackered to even think of it atm, and by the time LG has sorted out his sleep he will most likely be onto whatever we're having just mashed up a bit. When I had TT some other mothers I knew who were definitely not FESH material bought me a puree recipe book because they were terrified I would choke TT by giving her real food so small. Hmm

Backinthebox · 10/03/2011 13:51

Yay for mei tai shopping, Muse - what make and colour have you gone for?

I am so looking forward to the holiday. We have to get skiing out of the way first though Grin. Things are looking generally rosy round here atm, if you can see it through the sleep deprivation!

Muser · 10/03/2011 13:58

It's a Babyhawk Box, the mud surf one here: www.sasaslings.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=117

I thought with a black one I might get it on TBG too.

Backinthebox · 10/03/2011 14:24

Nice pattern! Mine are all Babyhawks and OH is actually a bigger user of them than I am - I've got some pics of him wearing it on the other place. If you need to, ahem, obtain some more, there is a huuuuge range of colours and patterns on the Babyhawk website. I like the minkee lining too.

Backinthebox · 10/03/2011 14:27

These ones are rather lovely too, but harder to get hold of.

Muser · 10/03/2011 15:50

They are lovely.

Medee · 10/03/2011 17:46

looks lovely, Box.

Medee · 10/03/2011 17:47

the holiday I mean, but the slings are nice too.

rollerbaby · 10/03/2011 20:11

Right I normally ignore all the sling chat, but today I need your help. Baby Bjorn is shite. Can someone tell me what to buy for a 20lb + please? Something that doesn't break my back?

Sleep deprivation is hell. I am suffering today from onluy 2 hours sleep. I couldn;t even be cross as little one so poorly last night. He has been smiley all day despite not being well. I wub him.

Muser · 10/03/2011 20:30

The woman running my sling meet had a Manduca which she was happily carrying her toddler in. I didn't try it, but it looked good.

Okiecokie · 10/03/2011 20:50

I have a Baby Hawk too on Box's recommendation which is minkee lined. I need to try it again as last time Peppa was a bit small and didn't really dig being froggied. I think she would be perfect for it now. Box do you fold the top flap thing down when LG is on front facing out?

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 10/03/2011 22:38

Silv Clint sleeps every 1.5 - 2hrs - so I just keep an eye on the time and watch for sleepyness hints.

I am Not Jelus of Caribbean holiday. Nope. Not moi.[terrible liar emoticon]

Backinthebox · 10/03/2011 23:35

Oke yes, we do, although he does like to suck the side of the sling. Also, we don't have him on the front facing out that much. Initially he went facing my chest as he like to snuggle up to me and sleep. Now he goes on my back as he is far too much of a lump to have on my front, and him being on my front now is far too much distraction for him as he tries to get down my top to my boobs (typical man. Hmm) There was just a little window of time where he was too small to be on my back but liked to be looking forward, iyswim. If babbies are too small for it, try again in a week or two. I've said before - TT didn't get on with them till she was about 12 weeks-ish, but LG was more, erm, substantial and happy in a mei tai from much earlier. We never got the feeling that we did with TT that he may just plop out of the side.

If anyone is desperate for mei tai hints, I can do pics on the other place. Just let me know.

Backinthebox · 10/03/2011 23:36

PS Cos never thought of zapping apple. Will try that tomorrow.

AlpinePony · 11/03/2011 07:06

The Pregnancy-feebs are on a roll right now, may I present this? : www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/1169090-7-weeks-and-worried-about-fridge-emissions-from-restaurant-downstairs Cloud Cuckoo land - I'm sure the restaurant will share the costs.

box Yes, next time. :)

We've had a serious amount of sleep failure in this house and I think I'm coming down with the lurgey. :( But I get four nights uninterrupted next week when Bear & JB go to Scotland without me. :( Wine

SilverSky · 11/03/2011 10:19

Gim do you put Clint in cot? Sans blanket? I'm wondering if MB would be inclined to realise its ok to let the need to sleep take over and stay asleep a bit longer??

box result in selling racepony! What to do with the readies! Fantastic ! Oh and in the staff travel thingy, my uncle has retired from a similar workplace and also has the same perks. Does he use said perks? Nope. Absolutely scandalous. What a waste!!!

Muser · 11/03/2011 11:19

Sling is here already! That's some super speedy free delivery they have going on. And of course baby is sleeping. Gah. Although not really because I thought I was never going to get in the shower.

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 11/03/2011 11:46

Silv in his grobag - doesn't seem to affect night/day distinction for him. I nap best when warm so assumed he would.

AIBU to be a bit Hmm that in-laws are over for weekend and I am having to persuade them to find time to see their first and only gc?

Backinthebox · 11/03/2011 12:55

VAG, ILs are a law unto themselves, but the minute they become grandparents there is a whole 'nother level of frustration they can sprinkle into your life.

Silv pennies will mean I don't have to take out an overdraft to tide me over to my return to work (and very welcome return of my pay packet! £125 per week does not go very far at all.)

In 12 years I have made various trips to Barcelona on my way out to visit family/go skiing, many of them alone. I have travelled long haul 5 times, 3 of those times with my mother. So in 2 years I have been on a long haul holiday twice in 12 years with OH. Apparently holidays interfere with his cricket. Hmm
