7 weeks and worried about fridge emissions from restaurant downstairs

I'm 7 weeks pregnant and really worried about whether our bedroom is safe. We are above a restaurant and directly underneath our bedroom is the storage area with loads of huge industrial fridges. We've had noise issues (there are so many you can hear them all day and night) and also vibration issues when they break down and shake. That apart there is also a pretty evil extractor fan outside our window that goes from 8am - 1am

The restaurant has done major insulation to the extractor fan and minor work to the fridges. I can't find any advice about this but i'm sure it can't be healthy. I'm looking into proper insulation and soundproofing options as, this aside, our flat is lovely. I'm sure I can get the restaurant to cover some of the costs but I'm more concern about any potential risks to my babies (having twins fingers crossed) Does anyone have any advice?

Not sure what to say to reassure you.

But if it helps, I live on Dartmoor, which is radioactive, and many many healthy babies are born!

I can't imagine the sound from the fridges/fan is harmful, or any potential emissions. Try your local environmental health people, perhaps?

Good luck with everything!

emissions of what from the fridges, other than noise, which wouldn't be harmful?

Agree with Petalouda that you could try talking to environmental health at the council but I think you'd have to at least determine what emissions you are concerned about. I know they have freon but it isn't emitted and anyway isn't toxic.

To my knowledge, fridges don't emit anything, otherwise we would only be able to keep them in ventilated areas of our houses I should think.

I am sure the noise is vastly irritating, I'm not sure I could live with it, but I don't think there is anything harmful to your baby/ies.

ok - thanks for your comments - this is helpful - yes its mainly the exhaustion of not being able to go to bed at 8:30 and lie there quietly and happily - the fan is on till 1am then the fridges all night - instead i lie there dreaming up schemes to get them shut down and replaced with a nice quiet bookshop! We're exploring major soundproofing short term and we will probably aim to move if possible.
