Hello

Well dont know what Ill do on sleeping front, have to talk through a plan with DP and try and start it this weekend maybe, he works late evenings so its really difficult time-wise round bed time.

DS is being a nightmare at the moment also, I dont know where my happy little boy has gone, he´s hitting, spitting and Im at end of my tether with it but dont kknow what to do for best. The return from holidays really isn´t going so well Sad

Is anyone else really hungry? I cant stop eating, it could be that I´m greedy Maia has uped her feeds as she has a cold but dont think so as she´s going really well with weaning. Confused.

It doesn´t help that for the first time in years I decided no sweet stuff or meat for Lent. I need aBiscuit!!

Not really an expert on poos but I think grown up poo´s are usual if they are well established on solids.

Hope all the other poorly LO are feeling better.

newmum001 · 16/03/2011 12:54

patito i've had a tiny breakthrough, one day last week i was knackered and went for a lie down with Grace on my bed and she fell asleep on her own while i was dozing next to her (there is evidence on facebook as it was the first time EVER that she's done it) which is part of the reason i decided to try and train her to sleep on her own this week as this kind of proved to me that she could do it. Anyway after the disater on Monday i really couldn't face putting her in her cot and letting her cry again so i've been rocking her to sleep. My back is now killing as she weighs about 20lbs so about an hour ago i took her up and lay on the bed with her and closed my eyes and sort of put my hand on her tummy and gently rocked her and she fell asleep!!!!!! It took about 15 minutes and she protested but as i was there with her i didn't mind letting her grumble for a bit cause she could see me so wasn't scared. It doesn't work all the time and she's only done it twice but if i can get her to sleep like that even once a day or once every other day hopefully i'll eventually just be able to put her down and let her drift off (fingers crossed)

I was eating a toasted teacake this morning and Grace was wide eyed looking at it so i broke a bit off and she sucked it for ages and ate a little bit then all of a sudded gagged really loudly and projectile vomited all over me, herself, the floor and the bouncy chair. We both had to get fully changed and the bouncy chair cover and our clothes are now in the wash!! I think i'll give it a few more weeks before i try her with anything like that as she's been sick both times i've let her have finger foods.

It's really quiet on here recently i hope all the poorley babies are feeling better and that everyone is out enjoying the lovely weather we've had recently!!

JodeyBogeyPicker · 16/03/2011 14:41

It is very quiet! Where is everyone. The lo's must be keeping us busy.

Harlyn as done 5 poos already today, all before 1pm. He normally does about 4 a day but 5 before 1pm is a little much. They weren't solid nor were they sloppy so who knows. Maybe I'm feeding him too much! This is what he eats on a daily basis:

7am 8oz formula
8am 2tbsp Organix porridge mixed with water and a tspn of fruit
10:30 6oz formula
12 1 portion of savory veg 1 portion of puree fruit (1 portions = equivalent to half oranix jar)
2:30 6oz formula
4:30 Same as 12pm
6:30 8oz formula

After his bottles, he always grumbles as he wants more and often does the same with his solids. He never leaves any. How does this compare to what other babies have on a daily basis and how often are they pooing? Harlyn has always been a big eater and I know he would have more if I gave it him. Its so hard to try a judge it. He's absolutely happy within himself and sleeping through so maybe I'm just worrying about nothing Hmm

He almost rolled back to front today! He was soooo close. He often rolls front to back but still waiting for him to master the other way round. I think he's getting frustrated with not being able to reach what he wants.

watersprite · 16/03/2011 16:04

Hi Ladies :)

So many post to catch up on, can't remember who said what Confused

Hope all the little one's are recovering well Wink

Newmum, Patito I've been haveing trouble getting Maria-Ann to sleep at night but during the day I seem to have her naps sort of sorted Grin I've been trying for ages to get her to have naps during the day and at the moment she has three. Two are half hr and the other is an hr in her cot. It took me ages to get her to sleep to begin with, I used to rock her to sleep and then put her down but then she would wake up and wonder where she was. I now put her in the cot wide a wake with her dummy and shhh her and pat her bum, to begin with she screamed the place down and I gave up because I couldn't stand her getting upset. Now though I've tried it a few more times and it seems to be working, I can actually come down stairs with the monitor on and get things done Grin just got to get her to sleep at night now Hmm

Jodeybogeypicker Maria-Ann often poo's 6 times a day but she does have a big appetite Hmm

8am a full weetabix or sliced toast
12pm half a jar of heinz mum's own recipe 7 mths+ think that would be 100g then mellon or some other fruit cut into small pieces.
4pm more or less same as 12am
8pm bowl of porriage, same amount as 1 weetabix.
in between food she may have anything between 1-2oz formula.
Throghout night two 7oz bottles.

beaditAli · 16/03/2011 19:12

Jodey I really wouldn't worry that he's eating too much. If he's pigging himself he'd be sick a lot wouldn't he? Don't know for sure but that routine sounds fine to me.
Jack has never been a big eater/milk drinker so tends to graze on bottles of really watered down apple juice and formula throughout the day but I think he kind of goes like this:

tho his week of being poorly has thrown me:

Porridge/fruity at 8am ish, about 15 baby spoons
9.30am nap for 30 mins
10.15am 6oz formula
12-1pm veqqie puree about a yoghurt pot full
Offer him juice in the afternoon at various occasions and he usually has taken 4oz by 4pm
I walk a lot with the pram so he invariably does a couple of 30 minute pram sleeps in the fresh air in the afternoon
4pm formula ..... about 5 oz
5-6pm dinner: same as lunchtime but might be a different mix
Bed by 7pm at the latest and sometimes does another 5oz now but not always
5am 6oz

8am we're awake and ready for porridge again.

I was thinking that everyone must feel like a pro now and doesn't need our lovely thread anymore Sad though I notice folk are still fans of FB Grin

frigg will you fb me your address so I can send your goody........ cinnamon too! I've lost yours! Sad

Jack and Daisy had a water fight on Monday! IN MY LIVING ROOM! It was hilarious if a bit childish and mean to my carpet! 5000% worth the mess tho! Grin

chelle really hope you're ok darling and love to gorgeous Olly.

lumps hope today was happy as well as sad if that makes sense........ sending love xx

I'm here, just busy with my paperwork! All done and up to date just got to wait until Friday now and hope she thinks I'm doing a good job! I have some lovely letters from my parents, which will hopefully stand me in good stead.

Luke has more milk than that JodeyBogeyPicker and probably less food but I don't think it sounds too much just that Luke is happier with milk than food at the moment. He has gone from pooing once every 4-9days to once a day to 3-4times a day!

Glad things are improving newmum001.

cinnamongreyhound · 16/03/2011 19:50

Sorry beaditAli crossed posts, got disturbed in the middle of writing it! I think it's nice to keep up with each others goings on even if we don't need help with things. Don't feel like a pro today at all, I got it wrong with a few ques from Luke and ended with him crying more than he has for ages. Then ds1 went to Nannys as she went into school with him to make something to do with communication and I couldn't go. She took him home for tea and he was so good, he is horrible from the moment I pick him up until he goes to bed or is transfixed by the TV, feel like I must be getting it so wrong :(

MammyG · 16/03/2011 20:31

Im still lurking around here too!
Phoebe doing well tho not her usual cheery self as she is teething. That said she is still good - nothing like the waahs her brothers would have. Boys are enjoying the good weather and playing outside lots. DS2 is knackered from DS1 as DS1 would just live outside if he could!

Phoebe is eating loads as in her portion sizes stun me! I have to stop her when I feel she has had enough and although she brings up little mouthfuls with hiccups etc she hasnt actually thrown up ever either!

7am - 5oz formula
8am - ready brek or porridge,(about the size of two yoghurt pots) diluted juice
12 ish - today we had lamb, butternut squash, apple, carrot and prune, followed by half a pot of fromage frais
2pm - 6oz formula
5pm - 2 cubes of pear with baby rice (same size as morning) and another load of creamed rice with fruit
6.30 - 6oz of formula
11.pm 6oz of formula

One thing that is bothering me is that she isnt really willing to grasp anything. As in she want the food, or biscuit but wont attempt to hold it herself. She doesnt hold her bottle either. I was fighting the boys off at this stage! She isnt rolling or anything either but she is quite thrashy and wriggles about a lot.

JodeyBogeyPicker · 16/03/2011 22:00

Thanks for the reassurance. It just goes to show how different our lo's are and yet they are all thriving. I'm getting H weighed again when he hits 6 months in 2 weeks so as long as he hasn't gained too much and gone off the scale then I'll be happy. I was getting him weighed every couple of weeks but it made me obsessed and worried about how quickly he had moved up the centiles so I thought I'd lay off weighing him for a while. He has had some mahoosive growth spurts but hopefully things will have calmed down a bit.

lumpybananapuree · 17/03/2011 10:52

I'm still here too. just been a mad couple of weeks. Yesterday went well, it was my great aunties funeral. Its a shame it takes an occasion like that to get the family together but it was lovely to catch up. My Grandmas also a bit better although she's so weak now she'll either have to go in a home or have a lot of care at home. Its a shame cos she was always such an independent person and she just seems to have given up.

Routine! Hmmm! Ollys in the middle of changing his and i'm not sure where he'll settle. Its roughly

5am- 5oz
7.30am- porridge bout 15-20 baby spoons
10am- 5oz (although today was only 3)
12-1pm- some sort of veg stuff or sandwich but he's not eating much at the minute
2pm- 5oz
5pm- more veg or what we're having
6pm- 5oz

He seems to be a bit off his food at the minute & a bit more unsettled so not sure if he's teething or just being a monkey!

Going into town now. I've got hold of a buggy board so i'm gonna try it out!!

SeaChelles · 17/03/2011 12:53

Still here too - but not been able to catch up much as Olly still poorly. Sad

He's just got really bad diahrrea now - which is making his tummy sore. Also on Diarolyte (hydration drink) as he is dehydrated....which is understandable with the amount of poo/water he is passing!

BTW - did you all know that you can tell if a baby is dehydrated by there soft spot? Ollys was really sunken when we went to docs on monday and she said this means he is dehydrated - is flattening back out now thankfully. You prob all already knew this but I found it fascinating! Little things, little minds.... Grin

Hopefully he is on the mend, still a happy little sod - but has been all the way through! Plus has munched both breakfast, lunch and a biscotti today!

Thanks for all your get well messages. Hope to be back to normality soon! Looking after them when they are poorly is exhausting!!

Olly 24+4

patito · 17/03/2011 14:58

Hi

lumpy glad things went well yesterday.

Newmum Had a ray of light yesterday with sleeping. DP was holding Maia whilst chatting to a friend in the kitchen, and I was playing with DS in his bedroom. She started to grumble abit and I thought she was working up for a feed, but then about 5 minutes later her brought her through, fast asleep Smile. It took him 2 attemps to put her down but she then sleep for 45 minutes!!!. So encouraged by that and thinking about your post I tried a different night time approach, fed her in the rocking chair and then popped onto bed before she dropped off, again took 2 attemps and a bit of grumbling but it worked Smile Smile. Today DP´s at work so doubt Ill have time to do it again but will try again this weekend.

As for food, Maia has

8am porridge - small pot full. (although most of it does end up on her face, the walls Grin)
10 am BF
1 pm veggies and piece of bread & chunck of fruit
2 pm BF
5 pm BF
7 pm piece of fruit (half an apple/pear)
8 pm BF
2-3 BF´s through night

She currently does one poo in the morning.

Any ideas on veggies, she doesn´t seem much taken by carrot, broccoli, pumpkin. Is it OK to start normal potato (cant find sweet potato here). Ive only been weaning for a couple of weeks, is it too early to start on weetabix and bananas yet? Need to start offering water I guess from now.

cinammon good luck for the inspection tomorrow.

mapletrees · 17/03/2011 17:40

I'm still around tooo!

Louis has joined the poorly babies club Sad. The health visitor thinks he has a chest infection so we're off to the drs tomorrow. Glad to hear Olly's getting better chelle.

I know what you mean about funerals being a good catch up banana. It seems to be the only times my extended family get together any more. Glad your great auntie's went well.

patito I think normal potato is fine, Louis has had it a few times and likes it. Also, as she's 6 months weetabix should be ok too. We gave Louis some for the first time this morning (3 weeks into weaning) - him and Maia are the same age..

Good luck for tomorrow cinnamon. Something tells me you'll be well prepared and sail through Wink

JodeyBogeyPicker · 17/03/2011 20:38

GOOD LUCK CINNAMON I'm sure you will do really well x

JodeyBogeyPicker · 17/03/2011 20:43

I've just cooked a beef stew. I was thinking blending some for Harlyn but I'm nor sure if it will be ok because I'm assumning the stock may contain too much salt. It has beef, carrotts, potatoe and parsnip with beef stock. Harlyn is 1 week away from being 6 months. Can I give it him or is it best not to?

JodeyBogeyPicker · 17/03/2011 20:46

patio do you just give her a slice of normal bread or do you toast/butter it? I think I should start giving Harlyn more finger foods. He's had toast before but seems to put it i his mouth and suck on it for a bit and then just drop it on the floor where the dog eargerly waits.

patito · 17/03/2011 22:06

jodey I just give her normal bread, we usual get baguette style and she loves to suck on the crusty bits. Have tried toast also and she likes that. I wouldn´t give beef stew if it has stock, they do have loads of salt in them, also I think beef is really hard to digest and waited for ages to give that to DS. Started with chicken/fish first. Oh and I think you can buy "baby-friendly" stock cubes, will ask my sister as I seem to remeber her talking about them some time ago, or maybe someone on here knows them?

cinnamongreyhound · 17/03/2011 22:17

Thank you all so much for your luck!! Have not had the best day today, one of my childminded children was a stroppy little madam and made life very difficult, boys are sooooooooo much easier! Then dh had a nightmare day and is really worried about something that happened at work (very long story), he is in trouble and not sure how serious it is. On the positive side took ds1 to the dentist for the first time and was told he has lovely teeth and I've been doing a good job Grin.

I personally wouldn't JodeyBogeyPicker but that's just me, I made all my own stock for ds1 and he didn't have anything vaguely salty until he was over 1. But then again I never gave him juice/squash until I started childminding and all the others were having it so he brought me the bottle to put in his water! I also didn't give him chocolate until he was over 1 and sweets until he was 2. I am trying really hard not to give my boys the same relationship with food (it fixes pretty much everything- boredom, sadness, tiredness, stress and is also used to celebrate Confused) so that they hopefully won't have to worry about their weight too much Hmm. When Luke has bread I just cut the crust off and give him that to chew on, it doesn't break up as easily as the middle bit of bread.

cinnamongreyhound · 17/03/2011 22:23

Yes you can get stock cubes for babies, in Tesco anyway, they are in the baby food section. this is them

lumpybananapuree · 18/03/2011 10:14

Cinnamon Good luck!

I was the same with ds1 with juice, chocolate, sweets etc, and intend on doing the same again! However, did you know there's a lot of salt in bread? I can't remember how much but i seem to rememeber 1 slice of bread equating to the same amount as they would take if they hada drizzle of gravy or stock cooked food. I really wish I could remember cos it shocked me at the time!

I give bread but i break it into tiny pieces & put it in his mouth. he then sucks it till its gone!

Newmum Have you tried the biscotti biscuits? They go to mush as soon as they get wet so no fear of gagging cos by the time they get to the back of the throat they're soggy!

SeaChelles · 18/03/2011 12:39

Cinammon - good luck.x

cinnamongreyhound · 18/03/2011 14:01

The inspector has gone and I got a good apart from with partnership with parents which was satisfactory as I don't have input into learning journeys from parents. Relieved but annoyed at myself as I got a notice about my register as it has to be upto date daily and I had only done it upto Wednesday but it was upto date in my dairy, with everything else I didn't fill it in yesterday.

Only the very negative side dh has been reported to HR for what I mentioned before. He was asked to get quotes for getting rid of cockraches from their tea room, he got them and one was approved so he went ahead and got the pest control people in. A week later is his boss said to wait as the head of department wasn't sure he wanted to go ahead. He decided not to say it had already been done as he thought it was a rubber stamping exercise but has actually been an ongoing conversation and he still didn't say it was already done. Now someone has told the head of department it has been done and another academic thinks his locust colony has been affect by it (even if dh had said it had been done which he obviously should have it would still have been there so IF it is that that has affected his colony it would still be there). He thinks his boss has been upfront and said he authorised it but they are still reporting him externally.

I am so angry at him by trying to be supportive, we are totally screwed without his salary like homeless screwed and if he is dismissed there's no chance of getting another job I'm sure. He says he boss told him he will get a written warning and nothing else but they don't have to go out of department and I am afraid that the fact that they are suggests there is more behind it and that someone is trying to screw him over. I'm so scared and I don't want to blame dh. So all in all my inspection seems really insignificant at the moment and I just want all my minded kids to go home so I can cry and not have smile politely at thier parents :(

mapletrees · 18/03/2011 14:22

Oh cinnamon that's so crap. I don't have any experience of that kind of thing so can't offer any words of wisdom. It must be horrible having it hanging over you, but try not to worry too much until you know for sure what's happening. Sounds like they're being pretty harsh tbh, I'd be shocked if they sacked him for it. Well done on the inspection though, it's not insignificant being told you're doing really well at your job.

Debs75 · 18/03/2011 15:44

Lucy doesn't have regular meals as she tends to nod off at mealtimes.
Today she had
Toast and scrambled egg for breakfast
Oatcake with hummus and tomato for dinner
We are having enchiladas for tea so she will have veg sticks and some chicken without the spice.
She loves beef chunks, she sucks on them until she has got all the juices and then gives me the piece back. I've tried her with some baby porridge but she doesn't like being spoon-fed.

patito · 18/03/2011 17:32

cinnamon Well done on your inspection, agree with maple, nothing insignificant about it at all. Smile
Sorry about the work situation with your DH. Would be v. harsh to get rid of him for that though, no? Talk to your DH about your fears about him getting sacked, might help to talk things out over the weekend.
