just reading through the thread and it seems as though your lo's are eating loads. R takes porridge/weetabix/fruit puree for breakfast, lunchtime depends on how she feels she can take a few spoons or lots then usually a yoghurt, dinner is the same then either a (sugar free)rusk/porridge for supper. In between she'l chomp on bits of apples but not actually eating them. She seems to be struggling with the lumps, J just ate anything so I'm not sure if she's eating enough and what extras i should be giving her. Sorry the post is a bit me me me its just threw me reading about what other lo's eat

cakes thanks for the cradle cap info i got her dentinox and olive oil.

CakeandRoses · 17/02/2011 23:19

oh stac i don't know about the others but when i say A is eating all that, she's not really swallowing all that much. most days she'll 'self-feed' a small bowl of porridge or whatever but with the rest of it she's only really tasting it or nibbling it.

CakeandRoses · 17/02/2011 23:21

i reckon i'd invoke a 'no multiple dinner' rule on their arses tsc but i'm a harpy like that.

i don't mind doing slight variants but whole different meals is just silly - it's not like you have a ton of time on your hands right now.

would clara and kate literally refuse to eat if it didn't suit them (but was veggie)

kkfairybrains · 17/02/2011 23:22

Wow tsc that sounds like a lot of work! The only thing is to cook in bulk and freeze but you already do that. Do you have a travel cot? sometimes il put it up in the kitchen and throw in a few toys while im cooking or cleaning. He'l still be able to see you and cant go anywhwre
getting a few ideas from you guys now so keep them coming!

kkfairybrains · 17/02/2011 23:25

Im with cakes in that one. Its hard enough get one dinner cooked in this house never mind 4!

CakeandRoses · 17/02/2011 23:51

oh and plain tofu is pretty much soggy cardboard, it's best used as an 'ingredient' alongside strong flavours like garlic. it's good instead of ricotta in ravioli or cannelloni for instance. The ready-marinated stuffs got a much better texture and has some actual flavour so is ok for stir-fries etc

OP posts:
CakeandRoses · 17/02/2011 23:53

and if you freeze tofu before use it improves the texture

OP posts:
CakeandRoses · 17/02/2011 23:55

fajitas would be good as you could do with and without meat easily and they're pretty dry for clara

fajitas, fajitas!

OP posts:
Stac2011 · 18/02/2011 00:37

yum fajitas!

I agree with the others tsc thats a shed load of work. I stick to us all eating the same. Like dp moans bout pasta but will eat it or starve. J isnt mad keen on chops but slap gravy on it and he's fine. Dss is a nightmare so tends to be given pizza but is getting more adventurous.

Thanks cakes was starting to think she wasnt eating much. What porridge fingers?

kk even though i have J weaning seems like forever ago so i'm as lost as you lol. Did you have a look on gumtree or ad trader for cars?

Eventually off to bed, night all

DesperateHousewife20 · 18/02/2011 07:51

Morning,

not a very good night here, up at 1ish and 4ish and lots after that.

Got a mad day today, picking my time dad up then taking him to a car garage. Then going to the breastfeeding group, then having lunch then going to see a friend.

Dylan is now taking food from a spoon, he likes the ready prepared meals and yoghurt.

Still cant get porridge into him unless its in the finger form.

I'm really lazy and don't bother cooking anything different for J, he literally has what we have as it comes, I don't even bother blending it up.

Last night, he had veg lasange and tomato salad (from that Jamie Oliver book), and the night before he had marinated Pork (from the Fay Ripley one). He will happily chew on a strip of meat for hours, he can now pick things up in his palm so eats risotto and mash etc.

The only thing he seems to have difficulty with is fruit because it's slippery, so now I just dry it off a bit with some kitchen roll.

tsc I seriously couldn't be bothered with cooking several different meals, I think my head would explode.

stac Although we put a lot of food in front of J I'm not sure he eats that much, he's still taking all the breastfeeds during the day plus an extra three or four one or two at night. I don't really like spoonfeeding him, I tend to just put a spoon in his hand and let him do it himself.

Woodlands · 18/02/2011 09:16

we have a handheld blender thing which also has a mini food processor bit which is really useful for whizzing up leftovers of our food for J (so much for all my BLW ideals...). Or last night he had fish pie which I just mashed up a bit. Most things can be mashed or blended or whatever. Pizza I'm not so sure about!

cake she's 7.5months old but has much better motor skills than J. Though J does try to use his finger and thumbs to pick up bits of food - not usually very successfully though and he reverts to a rake grasp.

It's confusing as some BLW advocates say you shouldn't offer food till babies can pick it up using a pincer grip - as you say, that's not usually until 8 or 9 months old.

Spirael · 18/02/2011 09:30

Another one here where M just eats exactly what we eat. :)

The only slight alteration is that she doesn't seem particularly fond of potatoes...but sweet potatoes are ok. So when DH and I had halloumi salad wraps with home made potato wedges early in the week, I just used a small sweet potato to make wedges for M. (Also meant DH and I could have spicy Cajun wedges for us. Grin) For the wraps, I just gave her strips of halloumi, torn pieces of wrap and some salad leaves to gum her way through.

We've also had macaroni cheese this week. For the first time I gave M some full sized pasta rather than doing a separate portion of soup-sized pasta and she coped absolutely fine. In fact I think she preferred the larger pieces, to be honest!

Yesterday was curry night, we had Shahi paneer (paneer > tofu by far!) with peas, boiled rice and mini naans. All I did for M's version was cut the paneer into smaller cubes and tear her naan bread into strips for her. (Oh, I tested her with peas and she does seem to have mastered the pincer grin, Cake. Grin I remember you asking a while back...)

Tonight I think is prawn thai green curry with cous cous, which will just be the same in that the only alteration is that I'll cut the prawns a bit smaller for her.

She's getting used to loaded forks too... I have some plastic forks, and mid-afternoon snack is fruit which I cut into chunks and stick onto the fork for her. She then eats it off the fork. :) Pineapple is a particular favourite! Grapes (cut in half) are good too.

We never had any success with the jar food here, M turned her nose up at all of them. It's one of the only things I've seen her refuse. Hmm However, she gets on ok with the pouch food (Ella's Kitchen etc) which is useful for emergencies or when we're going out somewhere unpredictable.

Places like curry houses, Pizza Hut or Nandos, she just eats donations from DH and my meals. Grin

HTHs!

thanks ladies seems she is getting enough then. Should I reduce bottles?

mlic great about 2nd tooth pity its not settled W any better. Did w go off food before his teeth came in?

dh you must be knackered. Sounds like a good day though.

hg thats good he eats what you do, i have been doing more of that with R it must be the milk filling them up

woodlands i'm doing a mixture of both blw and spoon feeding. When feeding r takes the spoon but is just mastering the pincer grip

Crap night here and i'm becoming insomniac. R was fine till 2ish then the night went to pot.

Stac2011 · 18/02/2011 09:59

mlic thats what put me off giving R our food due to the salt level but from what your all saying she'll prefer it and it wont cause any problems. Bloody weaning fairs!

HotGiggity · 18/02/2011 10:28

mlic I know what you mean, it can take up to an hour to finish a meal here...but it's an hour where he's entertained and I can sit on my ass get on with eating my own food.

OMG!!! How do you stop them from killing themselves!

This morning he's already falling 3 times, pulling things on top of himself, such as books and cushions. He can get everything!

I don't understand how yesterday everything was fine and now this place is a death trap.

kkfairybrains · 18/02/2011 11:59

Hg isn't that him on the facebook page standing up in his cot? if so i can't helieve he's only 7 months! so bloody sturdy! E is the same with pulling things. She's gine mad for wires and theres a crystal salt and marble lamp begind our bed that she tried to pull down the other day. Thank god i caught her as she'd be a gonner if i didn't
stac i didnt get the chance to look yet!
Well the car is going today and i'm feeling unbelievbly sad :(
