Here we go, down the slippery slope of parenthood. Slippery thanks to the poos, wees, leaky boobs and goodness knows what else :o :o

We'll be here to hold each other's virtual hands through the tough nights and delightful days, and to laugh at each other's stories of comedy nappy changes Hmm, and the fear (or not?) of getting back in the saddle, and coating some cervixes just for the fun of it again!! :o

OP posts:

DD is in bed Grin

Of course she will be tired because the little sod angel woke us up at 7am instead of her usual sensible time. Shouldn't moan really as it was my fault for not fastening her nappy properly causing it to leak.

DP had a day off so we've had a lovely time walking in the woods trying to spot squirrels. Seeing as the weather was so warm and sunny, this proved to be thirsty work so we took refuge in a beer garden.

Shame the football is on or the day would have been almost perfect.

HubbaHubbaBubba · 06/04/2011 21:36

Who do you want to win it Fuzzy? And wouldn't you just love to serve Greg a great big yumptious pudding to see the smile on his face? (although I think he's a bit like marmite, but I'm on the love-him side) :o

Kirisox · 06/04/2011 21:38

Hi everyone, I'm in north London, rest assured I never ever iron! My lovely DS is my first (only....? I used to think so ha ha!) and I think he's a pretty normal baby, cries, sleeps reasonably ok, likes his breasts as much as the next guy.

We didn't have the best start, I was induced at 38 weeks due to PIH, did the whole labour, pushed for 2 hours and ended up with a section for "prolonged second stage" as he was still up at -1 station and too high for forceps. He was in NICU for 3 days as they thought he had an infection but he actually had too many red blood cells so his blood was "sticky". He then joined me on the post natal ward and we were in for 7 days due to my blood pressure and I also had a transfusion.
Getting BF established was tricky while we were separated as I was quite unwell and he was tube fed for a while, but we have managed it and I'm so proud. Unfortunately he lost 11% of his body weight and had prolonged jaundice so I felt under a lot of pressure from the HCPs which got me quite down at times; he took over 3 weeks to regain his birth weight which they weren't happy about.
We are now pootling happily along on the 2nd centile. My BP is still being managed but hopefully will be sorted soon.
Sorry for the long introduction!

Kirisox · 06/04/2011 21:40

Oh and I want Tim to win masterchef, death to jackie :o

Fuzzywood · 06/04/2011 21:41

I think I want James to win though I kind of fancy Tom Hmm. I too love Greg Grin. Think Tim has ruined his chances tonight.

Meant to say sorry to head about your DPs job Running any idea when he'll know for sure?

Fuzzywood · 06/04/2011 21:45

X-posts Kirisox I don't like Jackie much either but feeling a bit sorry for her now. Sounds like you had a tough start to motherhood kirisox glad to hear it's improved since.

Right must concentrate on Masterchef (curse of the iPhone)

HubbaHubbaBubba · 06/04/2011 21:51

You poor thing kiri that sounds like a bit of an ordeal to say the least! Glad you're on the upper side of things now. We've had our fair share of mad labours here too, but, like you, most people are pootling along nicely now (we even have a pootle on this thread!) with the odd shit challenging day here and there. My LO took over 5 weeks to regain his birth weight, although he did start a bit heavier than most three month olds Hmm :o
Well done for getting on to BFing despite the tricky start.

Hey well done gallic for Alys being in bed. Your day sounds lovely, and you're right about the footie spoiling it :o

HubbaHubbaBubba · 06/04/2011 21:55

Nah, don't feel sorry for her fuzzy. She purposefully sliced her thumb to get out of being so late!! [evil emoticon]

Wanted James to win, but think he's out of it. So second choice is for Tim Robins - lookalikeeee to win.

Fuzzywood · 06/04/2011 22:02

Oh boo, James out but raw tuna and strawberry?!?! deserved to go. Ha ha about Jackie, she does come across as slightly deranged. Next week looks interesting.

Bed time routine seems to be working here, Evan in bed since about 7.30, expecting him to wake up soon then hopefully go back to sleep for more than 3 hours

Crystyclear · 06/04/2011 22:10

bah! james has gone. liked him. i also like sara, and jackie's food, but her manner is irritating!

wow kirisox that's a heck of a birth story. gklad you and ds area doing well now. my ds was the last to make an entrance here and one of the littleys... half the weight of bubba's bouncing baby! he's put on 4 lbs since birth as he's vair greedy young man. Midwife said to me that someone has to have the little babies, otherwise there'd be no 9th centile... Smile

p.s also a fan of greg and would like to make him a marmite pudding.... Grin

Kirisox · 06/04/2011 22:15

Wow I just saw the weight of Bubba's baby!

Kirisox · 07/04/2011 05:36

Hmmm jjkm i've just blindly accepted what the midwife and HV have told me regarding centiles. He was 7lb 5oz at birth, he dropped to 6lb something and last week at 8 weeks was 9lb.

Kirisox · 07/04/2011 05:38

Oops posted before I'd finished! How can I tell if that has been adjusted? Should each weight be plotted on the graph for 2 weeks earlier?

HubbaHubbaBubba · 07/04/2011 06:58

I don't think they adjust weight for babies born just two weeks early (or late for that matter). It's not surprising he dropped a lot at first considering the difficult first week of his life, and then 2 weeks to get back to weight is quite normal. If he's happy and alert that would be all I would worry about.

Kirisox · 07/04/2011 07:08

Thanks, he is happy, alert and reaching milestones so I'm very happy with him

HubbaHubbaBubba · 07/04/2011 07:22

:)

They get a lot more interesting from now onwards too :o

Just seen your "wow" at my son's weight >takes sheepish bow with huge child-rearing hips, and reminds self to practise pelvic floor muscles< Hmm :o

Going to upload a new pic of L and one of crysty's salt's and my babies...

That's incredible jjkm - I suppose with two sets of extremes in birth weight terms it's not very surprising, but still! I'm so impressed with your twin #1's weight at 8 weeks! That's no mean feat! :)

Fuzzywood · 07/04/2011 11:33

I give up, I just do not understand Evan's feeding and sleeping patterns. I've been noting down when he feeds for about 10 days and there isn't a pattern at all. Last night he fed at 6.45pm then we did bath and bed and he was settled in his bed by 7.45pm he then slept until 12.45 which proves he can go 6 hours, but was then up every 2 hours until 7 ish. Took DD to nursery at about 8.30 and he slept in the pushchair until 10 mins ago. I'm Confused now. Has anyone tried a dream feed with their little ones? Has it worked? I'm tempted to try it around 10.30/ 11pm to see if it gets him through the night.

Sorry me me me post, hope everyone else is doing well. It's a lovely day here again so planning on being out in the sunshine this afternoon. I bought a sun hat for Evan yesterday, very cute if rather large, I'm all for getting a lot of use out of things Grin

How's it all going JJKM? Sounds like the girls are doing great, do you know how long they have to be tube fed for?

Right better get Ev dressed, though he has just fallen asleep again!

Crystyclear · 07/04/2011 12:22

ooh bubba!! photos! keep meaning upload mine too and a new pic of DS... who is no longer the smallest or youngest baby at baby group Sad

jjkm hurrah for the twins!

fuzzy no pattern to feeds during the day here either, but there are at night. Feeds at 8/9pm (or all evening if he wants!) and then sleeps til 11pm, feed, then feeds at 2am, 5am and 7am. he's started to take less and less at 2am, so think he might soon sleep through that feed. The 7am one is when we both get up anyway.

DS v. grumpy after jabs still, grizzly and restless. i'm going to take him out in the garden, plant up my greenhouse and veg patch and then read a book... Grin

Of course the above is a dream I once had ... and the afternoon will inevitably end with partially potted tomatoes, a baby covered in dirt and a stressed, sunburnt mother. I can but try!

P.S Is it completely sad that I now love hanging out the laundry? It's sunny, the air smells good and I can chat to DS whilst hanging up all his tiny clothes.

travispickles · 07/04/2011 13:02

Ok I am doing it all wrong! I keep Saskia awake til I go to bed at 10ish, then feed her and she sleeps til 7ish. Which is great but when do I start trying to get her down earlier (and will she then wake me up all night??!) I am moving her into cot this week :( so maybe this week/? As for daytime naps/ feeding - just chaotic. But am LOATHE to give up night sleep!!!
Hope you all well and enjoying sun. I am enjoying peace and quiet at home after our adventures although dreading mirena coil fitting later. Also tried on my new still massive jeans and... they don't bloody fit! Cue serious diet time.

Crystyclear · 07/04/2011 13:21

travis IIWU, I wouldn't disturb those night sleeps. If she wants to go to bed earlier - fine, but she obv is happy with what she's getting. Don't pressure yourself.

I'm only trying to encourage DS to sleep earlier as he won't nap during the day and is exhausted and colicky all evening.

Fuzzywood · 07/04/2011 17:02

I'm with Crytsy, if you're getting a good night sleep I'd go with it. I only introduced a bedtime routine as we weren't getting any real long stints of sleep. Plus it means that I can fit him in with DD's routine before bed making life much easier.

I love washing dried outside too
