Here we go, down the slippery slope of parenthood. Slippery thanks to the poos, wees, leaky boobs and goodness knows what else :o :o

We'll be here to hold each other's virtual hands through the tough nights and delightful days, and to laugh at each other's stories of comedy nappy changes Hmm, and the fear (or not?) of getting back in the saddle, and coating some cervixes just for the fun of it again!! :o

Oh Crysty - that did make me laugh. I've had a bath with DD but thankfully she was well behaved in the bottom department.

Wedding was amazing, the bride looked lovely, and as DP said to me - having a baby is like entering a whole new club. Everyone comes to talk to you! I might add that he dressed DD in the car park outside the church whilst I was slapping applying on my makeup and it was only once we were in there I realised her dress was on backwards Hmm

For Mothers Day I've had 2 new bath sheets which are lovely and some seeds to plant in the garden. Clever Isobel.

gallicgirl · 03/04/2011 16:30

Seriously fed-up of the reflux today :(
I thought the staydown formula was improving things but now I'm not so sure. >

LadyBuzz · 03/04/2011 19:42

Happy Mothers day . First one is so lovely!

I have been a busy bee this week trying to organise the christening, cake is finally ordered, confetti for tables bought and balloons.
Now just need to get the people list and sort the invites, oh and something to wear for me & DSs and Kali after the service. Its all stress!

crysty that made me chuckle, DS2 has a habit of doing that but luckily never with me in - freaked DS1 out a fair few times mind Grin

gallicgirl · 03/04/2011 21:57

Crikey, that seems a lot of fuss for a christening! Hope it al goes well for you.

DP came home with a mother's day pressie for me ........ big box of creme eggs.....48 little pockets of cadbury goodness. Grin

Makes up for a bloody awful day involving far too much baby vomit.

saltnvinigarcrips · 04/04/2011 15:48

Nice to hear everyone had a lovely mothers day. Henry was very clever and got me a card and flowers :)
Lol at Crysty. Is it odd that your story has now made me want to have a bath with ds?
Well I have just cut ds finger and toenails and he is asleep on the floor. He is such a mucky pup and always seems to have dirty fingernails!
Has anyone got any advice about getting babies onto bottles. Basically I'm still breastfeeding and intend to for quite awhile but would like to be able to leave him for a few hours occasionally with an expressed bottle. Me and dp tried on Saturday but he just screamed and wouldn't even close his mouth around it. We tried the next day too but with the same result. It was really distressing for all 3 of us but not sure what to do :( Any advice welcome.

Fuzzywood · 04/04/2011 16:03

Hey all, lovely Mother's Day here too, just caught my mug that my very clever children bought me before DD dropped it on the floor Grin.
Salt were you trying to give Henry his bottle with you in the room? They can smell mummy and breast milk a mile off so maybe easier if your DP tried it with you out if the room. Other thing to try to get him used to it us to breast feed him a bit first so he's not starving when you first try it. Only other suggestion I can think of is to try a different type of bottle, all the makes are slightly different and some babies prefer certain types. Try again as soon as you can though as there is some evidence that getting them to take a bottle is easiest in the first 6-10 weeks. Good luck!
Have started bed time routine with Evan which seems to be going ok. I have been then bringing him in with us after his last feed of the evening and he's still awake every 2-3 hours so may try putting him back in his room tonight to see if it makes any difference, it's strange not having him downstairs in the evening though, they grow up way too fast! He's nearly too long for his sleeping bags and Moses basket already, looks like he'll be tall like his dad.

RunningKatie · 04/04/2011 17:36

8 hours sleep last night

Had the HV round to do her 8 week check, she's dropped from the 25th percentile to the 10th Sad - I still think we're doing well with the BF despite everything but sad she's not quite doing the steady growth.

DD is having immunisations this week, can i take her temperature in her armpit with an adults digital thermometer or can you buy childfriendly ones? Confused

How's the reflux today jjkm?

Good q Salt, DP and I were discussing the exact same thing this weekend

gallicgirl · 04/04/2011 17:57

katie if you do use armpit temperature, then google what it should be because temps are different depending on where you measure them from. Ear thermometers are probably easiest with children but I have a feeling they might be 3 months upwards. I didn't bother measuring, just took a guess by feeling the back of her neck and gave her one dose of calpol before she went to bed. You can only give two doses anyway and then have to seek medical advice.

Don't stress about the weight as long as baby appears well. My niece was on the 9th centile for the longest time and even now she's a very skinny 8 year old but there's nothing wrong with her. BF babies gain their weight a bit later on so she'll get there.

can I ask how much your babies sleep? DD slept about 8 hours last night and has spent most of the day asleep other than for feeds, vomiting and a bath. I put her on her playmat in the hope that would keep her amused but she was asleep within 10 minutes. Confused I'm wondering if she's going through a growth spurt as she has been consistently finishing 180ml bottles and is crying for food before 3 hours is up.

Crystyclear · 04/04/2011 18:32

hi all.

glad the wedding was lovely katie

round of applause for all the clever babies buying their mummies presents! Grin

i too need to figure out bottle feeds with expressed milk. ds won't even take a dummy, so not holding out much hope of success with a bottle!

sleep: still 3-4 hours overnight - total of 8 hours sleep with a feed in the middle. no sleep during the day, except 20 min power naps - maybe three times.

had a horrible day today - ds has v. bad trapped wind which is making him shriek and i just can't get the burps out. have tried everything. even when he sleeps, he wakes very soon after with tummy pain. i think we're both exhausted.

hope this current nap lasts a bit longer.

Oh dear, poor little babies with wind. It's so upsetting isn't it, when you can't help them?

Alys has perked up a bit now and is gurgling away on her play mat :)

LadyBuzz · 04/04/2011 19:49

gallic that is good news Smile
some days Kali seems to sleep alot despite going right through the night and some days does not sleep for more then a couple of hours in total.

crysty hope DS is a bit better now its not nice when they are distressed.

Does anyone elses baby throw up much? Kali doesn't even possett when she is winded but once every few days she pukes like the girl on the excorsist, the boys didn't really do it so it takes me by surprise!

Crystyclear · 04/04/2011 20:18

all gone a bit quieter on the screaming front here. he's in his vibrating chair, which he normally hates! i truly don't understand babies! one minute they hate something, then they love it. Hmm

DS is not a puker either. he possets a little and v. occasionally pukes if he's over-eaten - usually when he's feeding for comfort not for hunger.

are you BF or FF? reflux? or (unlikely) are you eating something that she might be intolerant too? too much caffeine or dairy?

been reading Kellymom on food intolerance etc, so might be worth a look there, though I admit it's not likely.

HubbaHubbaBubba · 04/04/2011 20:26

Right, as original starter of this ante-natal/post-natal thread, I hereby decree that there shall be no more mention of the following 'activities';

  1. ironing
  2. exercise
  3. sleeping through

I have heard of all of these things, and wish I could have one of them. However, none happens in our household and therefore may no longer be mentioned.

:o

Yes LadyB L doesn't spit up much but every now and again chucks up loads - undigested milk in vast quantities. Think it's just an odd bubble that takes him (and me) by surprise.

gallic during the day L sleeps for about an hour each time and is awake for about 2 or more hours (though the last half hour or so is spent shouting about how tired he is Hmm). At night he sleeps from about half nine till about 6am, with just a few feeds (half eleven, two-ish, four-ish and then six-ish) Angry [mahoosively-sleep-deprived-emoticon]

L is still also not taking the bottle. Tried everything other than formula milk, so that's our next step :( - don't want to use formula, but desperately need to have a break at some point in his life!!

Just found out that DD1 is going to the one and only school we looked round. It's fab and we're really pleased, but can't believe my little first baby is going to school in September!! :( :) :(

Wonder how the others are all doing (Florapost, ryuk, sara etc)?

LadyBuzz · 04/04/2011 21:57

crysty she is FF so def not something i'm eating, It sounds very similar to what Bubba says, its def undigested 99% of the time and its not too often so as yet i'm not overly worried although I might get her weighed again to be sure - If I can find the clinic list!

bubba Kali also likes to let you know just how tired she is instead of just sleeping - Strange child Grin
Well done for DD getting the school you wanted but Sad that she has to go, DS1 is fast approaching his final term in reception, scary but he so so loves going to school so far!

Fuzzywood · 04/04/2011 22:07

Bubba completely agree with new rules. I rarely use the clothes flattening contraption, I have started exercising but only to balance out eating my own body weight in cake and chocolate and I certainly don't get a full nights sleep, 3 hours would be nice! Good news about the school, can't believe DD will be in school in 18 months, I swear I brought her home yesterday.
Hope everyone has a good night.

gallicgirl · 04/04/2011 23:11

If it makes you feel better hubba Alys is always awake between her last two feeds no matter what we do. She's been screaming off and on for about an hour now. We're going to give her a 6th and final feed now despite it only being 2 hours since her last bottle. It'll take at least an hour to wind her after this one so with luck we'll be in bed by midnight

all there little ones off to school! wow!

i'm loving watching DS grow at the moment. I wonder when the age hits that you still enjoy that but wish they would slow down a little and stop heading towards grownup-dom?

Heavy triangular household item lives in the garage - where it belongs!

Exercise - is what people without children do, as those with, do all the flipping running around in the universe (multiply efforts by number of children in family).

Sleeping Through is a myth, and doesn't exist. It is especially doesn't exist when a) DS has been asleep ages and his stupid mother pokes him to check he's still OK and b) DS decides that midnight parties until dawn are much more fun than sleeping (N.B DS takes after his mother!)

homebound · 05/04/2011 10:00

Hello,
Wondering if I can join this thread! My Sam was born 6th Jan so I think is fit right in!

Crystyclear · 05/04/2011 10:03

hello, hello! puls up an armchair, Brew and Biscuit for homebound

how's it all going for you?

gallicgirl · 05/04/2011 10:54

hello homebound , grab a cup of tea and a biscuit and tell us a bit about yourself.

Soooo, DD screamed til 1am as predicted :(

Managed to get up a bit earlier today and woke her at 9 for a feed. She's now back asleep giving me chance to prepare bottles for the day and catch up on MN.

happy birthday to cupcakes Grin Wine

I'm determined to be more organised this week and to have more trips out. So far I've only been walking to the shops in the village with DD and only go further afield when DP is with me so I've arranged to go visit a friend who lives about 20 miles away so I'm forced to get my arse in gear and get in the car.

How confident are the rest of you about getting out and about by yourself?

Crystyclear · 05/04/2011 12:21

happy birthday cupcakes

gallic tis quite daunting the first trip out alone. i have a mirror that you put on the headrests in the back so you can see your baby in their car seat (as its rear-facing). that is good for putting me at ease, as i can see him whenever i want and stop if i need to sort him out.

i live in the middle of nowhere, so have to just get on with it, though i've been craving the ability to just wheel the buggy out the door down the street!

i found motorways quite tricky, as not so easy to pull over when i got unecessarily worried! maybe go for a drive around the village for a practice.

i like to try and plan where to park in advance - multistoreys don't have enough space and also think about where I can feed/change DS if he needs it - Boots and department stores seem to have the best facilities. i'm probably way too neurotic tho! Blush

good luck!
