Well tonight was supposed to be the first night that DS and DD share a room. Put him to bed, and he went off to sleep as planned. But woke up about 45 minutes later and cried 'til I went in. DAMN! I want my office back! But, in the end I took him back to the office where his moses basket is and he has just gone off to sleep. I think the moses basket is familiar and therefore confortable to him. Perhaps tomorrow I'll put the moses basket inside the cot and try again. He's almost as long as the moses basket now, so time is limited to rectify the situation.

Any one else have 2 in one room?

welshmum · 24/10/2005 08:04

Lua - when he wakes I go in and reposition him and kiss his forehead and tell him to go to sleep - takes about 15 seconds. He's getting the hang of it now. Last night was 7pm until 415 with one little yell at midnight. After feed at 415 he went back to sleep on his own until 7am so am making progress. If you can bear it I really think you should try hard not to bring them into bed because it's not what you want in the long run - I'd try to do things that take you closer to your ultimate goal......hard I know...
Found ds on his tummy at midnight too and annoyed as he couldn't get back to his usual position. I've got wrap thing from NZ that encourages them to sleep on their backs - makes rolling a bit difficult so I might have to start using that with ds now (dd used it and it worked well)

lua · 24/10/2005 09:52

morning all! Ugly day here! Makes you want to go straight back under your covers!

Welshie - thanks for sharing your night routine. I manag to put ds back to sleep twice without feeding tonight, yey! Keeping my fingers crossed he now will not wake up - which is my goal! Can ask you one more question, how do you decide when is hunger, IYSWIM? I am stretching a bit blindly, don't want to feed him after he cried for a while not to encourage the "if I cry enough, I might get it...".
Am curious what is the NZ wrap thing... do you have a site with a picture of it?

Uwila - I know there was a thread not to far in the past at when people tought was safe to put toddler and baby together. You might want to search to get a wider set of opinios. Me, myself, don't trust my DD to sleep with DS. But he still wakes up too much at night anyway to even try....

welshmum · 24/10/2005 10:48

Lua - I can tell by the way he feeds. He wasn't feeding at all well all through until about 4am so I was dropping all the earlier feeds.
I'll have a hunt for the wrap thing on the net and will try to post later - have a good day and congrats on resisting the urge to take ds back to bed.
I just ordered a lovely all in one fleecey for ds - with baby penguins on it from Jojomamanbaby. Dd had the fushcia one when she was 6 months. He's going to look so cute.....
(I got a bit worried about this arctic winter ahead)

lummox · 24/10/2005 10:52

Hi all - filthy day here too. I always find it harder to make the day go quickly when it's too wet to enjoy going out.

Lua - think we are in a similar position with sleep. ds is now mostly only waking up 3 times (which feels like a triumph) and is definitely going into his cot awake and settling himself without grumbling. We've even had a bit of him waking up and chuntering happily to himself, which I couldn't have imagined happening a few weeks ago.

sfx - have been deliberately not looking at the "earlier" birth threads - aaarggghhh.

EYM - good to hear about Georgia's progress.

trib - we had similar decluttering problems here, although more mini-disc players than cameras. Are you holding back on your own clutter, though? I was embarrassed to find that I had filled three large plastic crates with toiletries.

welshy - congratulations on the sleep

KVG - broadband will change your life (mostly by using up large chunks of it)

tribpot · 24/10/2005 11:05

Just a quicky lummox - to say that in my view I have much less clutter than dh This is partly true, since I was 'aided' in decluttering 3 years ago by an arson attack on my house which destroyed nearly everything I owned! Not the way usually recommended on the house selling programmes on telly, is it?!

Bloody awful weather here too, am meant to be lugging tons of rubbish out to the garage but have a cunning plan - will hide it all in the meter cupboard downstairs until the rain stops

eastyorksmum · 24/10/2005 12:13

morning mums hugs

On sleep front were having same problem , william is waking three times for a feed and hes actually hungry.

Charley did you say arlo was like that?
I think we might have to think about weaning earlier, he always seem to be hungry these days and he watches us eat too.

I had a silly Nursery Nurse lol which made me laugh as i have a little more experience then she has , anyway she wass telling wehy we dont waen till 6 months now.
Even told me to give william rusks as their full of sugar ??? and she could give me a reciepe to make my own .

LOL mums i know i dont cook that often, but i cant see me making home made rusks. The she told me you cant give baby gravy , but you can buy boots baby gravy well i was just flabagasted and when i did ask her technnical questions, such as well ok but i have a snacky baby, and at the moment hes putting on weight fine, but hes not growing can you explain to me all about the growth spurts and the centile lines on his child personal developent record? And she couldnt told me to speak to my HV
grrrrrrrrr why dont they send people round who are qualified to deal with real mums.

sorry had to moan

anyway ive decided that will prob needs a little bit more now, hes 15 weeks so will look at giving him some rice next week.

lynny have a great day just you and your nighty lol we all wish we could.

trib what crap neighbours, id go mad lol be banging at their door all times of the nite, people just dont have consideration these days.
Hope you sell soon hunny hugs

Have a great day at the tate mums, had to ask hubby what that was, just been a simple yorkshire lass lol.

Lua hope you have a better time next time you try to wean little one, i think sometimes its just getting used to the spoon, wheras were lucky william is very good with spoon already as i give him drinks of cooled boilled water from spoon, im sure you ll do better next time.

Cooperoo · 24/10/2005 18:57

Hello ladies,
I am back and have missed you all. I have had a quick scan through and it all seems to have been going on so sorry I haven't been around to offer some support to those who have needed it.
I have had a wonderful visit from my Mum and stepdad who flew back yesterday. DH is in the UK too on his course for three weeks so today has been the first day of 21 on my own.....and I survived. The house seems very empty though and it is quite lonely having had so much company for the last few weeks. And I have a cold. It is not that bad though and I am going off to bed shortly which will be lovely .
Poor dd2 has a cold . She is so cheerful through it though beaming after every cough and sneeze as if to say 'what was that?'. I have given her 2.5 mls of Medised for the past two nights but she is still waking every 2-3 hours. I really have to crack this sleeping but know I can't start to do that while dd is poorly or while I am missing dh's moral support.
On a good note we have our new car which is so lovely and all clean smelling and shiney! On a bad note dh's course seems to be VERY demanding and it is unlikely that I will be able to speak to him on some days, esp with the time difference and me needing my sleep lol. Thank goodness for texts.
Anyway I am waffling now. Hope to keep up with you all. Take care.
Yorkie - So glad G seems to be getting stronger. I have been thinking about you and your family a lot.

just a quick post sis has texted me baby is doing fine feeding well, and she has put georga to the breast my sis sounds more confident.

nite junies xxxxxxxx

welshmum · 25/10/2005 07:59

Lua - my NZ wrap thing is called a Safe T Sleep - I think they have a website, my SIL sent it over for dd and it did her 2 kids too so it's quite 'well-loved'.
EYM - so pleased your sis is growing in confidence with Georgia.
Coop - thinking of you getting on while your dh is away - you know I grounded mine - you must be made of sterner stuff. Hope the cold clears soon - we're fans of medised in this house too.

Our nights continue to kind of improve. Thank goodness because the weather's depressing enough on its own. Anyone else finding the arrival of winter a real downer?

sfxmum · 25/10/2005 08:34

morning all
hello hope nights were ok

if sleep obsession wasn't enough add poop watch.
dd sleep seems to be back to waking up 2 times a night, if you dont count 11pm. which in my book is good.

yesterday she was very grizzly all day, though maybe due to constipation going on 3rd day. considered intro of solids the cause, took a break yesterday. betting on massage to solve the problem today.

oh she woke up...

lummox · 25/10/2005 08:51

welshy - i'll second (and third and fourth) being miserable about the wintery weather. i was finding that when ds got grizzly going outside would cheer us both up, but it's so horrible now that it's not much fun. this has effectively added two hours of baby awake time that i need to fill per day.

sfx/welshy - glad to hear about the sleep. steady improvement here too. last night ds went to sleep at 7, then woke at 2 and 5. the only problem is that the more sleep i get the more i seem to need!

eym - glad to hear about baby georgia.

good thing here is that ds is sitting up. he started off "monkey style" leaning forward on his hands and would list alarmingly from side to side. over the last week or so he has got straighter and straighter up and stopped falling over altogether. it is most cute and helping to fill our extra two hours.

still no rolling though. have a feeling he will be at school before that happens.

still thinking of the "no sleep til dawners" (and everyone else of course).

almost forgot - trib, an arson attack? good grief? was anyone hurt?

Cooperoo · 25/10/2005 11:27

Hello
I have been to a friends for coffee this am who I haven't seen for ages and ended up buying a load of beautiful necklaces she makes. The most pleasurable Christmas shopping ever. DD1 was a nightmare this am but became an angel the minute we stepped out of the house which was fab. Just having lunch together at the moment before I attack the ironing. DD2 still very under the weather with this cold and has bitten me HARD three times today. I think she is struggling as it is hard to breath through her nose and feed. Can't believe she has that blasted tooth already. She also sat upright in her reclined baby chair so the straps will have to be used from now on.
My double bedtime routine is involving dd1 in bed at 6pm and dd2 at 7 since dd1 dropped her lunchtime nap. This is OK but means dd1 is up at 6.30am. She is too shattered to stay up any later though and I can't cope with the tantrums alone.
Unfortunately dh has to do this course or lose his job. He was away for four months in Kuwait when we were first married and I know that he will have another Out of area to do before he leaves the RAF. I just hope it will be the Falklands or somewhere safe and not Afghanistan or Basra .
Thanks for the warm welcome back

uwila · 25/10/2005 12:32

Hi everyone. Well, I tried the sleeping in the same room thing again last night, and I'm very pleased to say they both slept through the night. Though I didn't cause I worried about them waking up. And I had the baby monitor by my bed, which enabled me to listen to DD coughing all night long. The main thing is they successfully slept through in the same room. Yippee!! I can have my office back. And all the baby/toddler crap can go into ONE room.

Anyone dressing up the little ones for Halloween? DD is going to be tinkerbell. But I decided not to spend money on costume for DS which he surely won't appreciate.

evening all

coop- nice to see you back. sincerely hope your DH does not go to danger zones. my dad was involved in war for the first 4.5 years of my life (not british army of course)much weirdness insued.
fingers crossed, and candles lit.

KVG- really feel what yoare saying.
my dd not only just naps on the boob, she sleep on my lap and wakes up if i move to settle her on the cot. tried quite a few things, some more successful than others, most unsucessful. now i am happy if she just naps, dont really care how or where, if she doen't the nights are far worst.

she also ha days when she wakes up every 2 hrs and others when only wakes up twice.
i have given up expecting a pattern and just go with it. sometimes i think we were given to expect unrealistic thing.
i am sorry i know its not a helpful commemt and i do hope it gets better

off to settle her for the night and hope for the best.

sfxmum · 25/10/2005 18:41

clearly a lot more tired than i thought given i can no longer spell for toffee

tribpot · 25/10/2005 18:46

Just a quicky ladies, will try and catch up properly later.

KVG, your 'advice' sounds about standard. I swear we could probably all pose as hvs just on the info gleaned from MN. Windiness a major problem here too, could yours be dietary at all? Have you tried eliminating lactose or anything like that?

Now, I don't know if this is standard Junie baby behaviour already but today ds "sort of" sat up on the sofa on his own. I will clarify this by saying I had to balance him first and he could only hold it for a couple of seconds, but we were v impressed anyway. Coop, it sounds like dd2 is up to something similar?

Was hoping a dashing airman was coming round today to view the flat (no idea if he really was dashing, I just imagined that part)- apparently the US Airforce base nearby is a good source of tenants. In fact in our building we already have two Americans - if he does rent perhaps they will insist on hanging a flag on the front lawn?! (Just kidding uwila, I know our American cousins go in for that sort of thing). Anyway, no show so it's back to square one.

Catch you later all!

Lummox - Ha ha - I'm just the same - the more sleep I get the more I WANT!

Lummox/Trib/KVG - Congratulation on the sitting babies - how exciting!

Hi Coop! Hope you both get better soon and good luck for the next 21 days - thought I was hard done by last week with dp away 3 nights! When does your dh leave the RAF? Does he have plans for afterwards?

Yorkie - I feed ds at about 10.30/11pm then aboiut 1.30 then about 4.30 and he eats quite a lot, so if definitely hungry. He's quite small too. Think we just have to wait until they're a bit bigger. So glad your sis and georga are doing well.

Lynny - hope you're day wasn't too frantic - did you find anything to keep Leona amused? Do you always get up at 5am? What time do you go to bed?

KVG - sorry your hv and counsellor where so rubbish. Thank goodness for MN! Glad you're enjoying the Baby Bjorn - my ds loves his,

Added yet another piccie of ds to our Yahoo site!

Hi Lynny... don't leave us hangin in the lurch... did you get the ticket?

We are full of stuffy noses and sore throats in my house. Poor little DS had a bit of a fever yesterday. Nanny was lovely, didn't recommend any wacko vodka socks concoction. Just sent me a note to let me know and said she was going to give him a bit of calpol. He seemed better by bedtime. But, I still feel sorry for the poor little guy. If only he knew how to blow his nose. Awwwwww...
