eym - i don't think the vicar would have a problem, it might be worth explaining the situation, when we said to ours that one set of our chosen godparents might not be there he suggested we did a webcam link!! our church has a wireless network.

EYM, glad you're feeling a bit better today....

Skyler, I would really recommend trying a bumbo before spending a lot of money on one We were given one, and although I do feed DS in it, knowing what I know now, I probably wouldn?t buy one. Some babies love them, some hate them. My DS can tolerate it for about 5 mins and that?s it and those 5 mins are with pureed mush being shoved in his mouth.

Bubb, 5 cubes per meal!!!! That seems a lot. I?m giving DS 2 cubes, twice a day and his normal 5-6 milk feeds. We only started weaning about 10 days ago. Are you feeding your DS once or twice a day? I?d be really interested to see what everyone else is doing, as im a bit concerned about this as well.

We?ve had a lovely day today. We?ve been to the salvation army baby group today and this pm DH took DS out for a couple of hours. DS has been a real treasure today. I gave him his first bottle and food while out today and it went v. well and mainly stressfree. Long may it last!!!!

hope you all have a good evening ladies...

lummox · 07/11/2005 19:20

Hi all,

Bubb was right that I didn't like the bumbo. We were given one, but I would have been gutted if we bought it. ds is happy for about five minutes as well - about as long as it takes for him to realise that although he is sitting up (good) he can't really play with anything (bad). So after a very short while he would start to try to throw himself backwards to get out of it which was scary. I think it's a bit daft, as ther is only a very short gap between a baby being able to use a bumbo and being able to sit up/use a highchair where they can play with their own toys.

ds will happily sit in his highchair playing for ages - we've got one where he can use the kitchen table as a try and we make a sort of three sided box with big books so that he isn't always throwing things on the floor. he likes it much more than the bumbo and it's free.

on the weaning front - we have moved to two meals a day and have tried three - not sure about how many cubes, but each meal is about three tablespoons. Either babycereal or babyrice with fruit for breakfast, with a vegetable for lunch and a small amount of just cereal/rice for tea. Seems to be working well, except for sweet potato (if you are of a nervous disposition look away now) which we could practically have re-used from ds's nappy. Ahem. Sorry about that.

hope everyone is well.

welshmum · 07/11/2005 20:01

Hello all,
SFX and RHM - it was lovely to meet you today and your little treasures - didn't they all behave well. I felt like I didn't talk enough - too much feeding of the ds I guess. But it was a good venue for me to get to - I had a really nice day. RHM - please tell Mummylonglegs that I'm thinking of her.
JonahB I went to a Salvation Army place today too - the International HQ is just by the wobbly bridge and has a lovely cafe downstairs with great cheap food and good baby changing!
Re weaning - we're on 2 big cubes at lunch and tea with the occasional bit of mashed banana for pudding too. Breakfast is baby cereal - about 2 tablespoons of it I think. (ds is 25 weeks old)
Unfortunately ds is still not good at producing pooh and I'm on pooh watch again - quite alarming given the amount of solids he's eating. I think he's getting uncomfortable with it so have bought some prune juice which he's having a little bit of - I might take him to clinic tomorrow for some advice.
Have good evenings all

bubbaloo · 07/11/2005 21:32

Evening All,

Katz-Thanks for the info. Our ice cube trays are quite large and I do them heaped to get in as much as poss.I've now doubled it to 2 cubes per meal as from today as he's eating it no probs,so I'll stick with that for the time being!
We've been out shopping all day today(dh has the week off)so I took a jar of food with us and tried him on that.He ate a few spoonfulls but pulled the most awful faces that in the end I didn't give it to him and he just had his milk.I've got quite a few jars in the cupboard(for emergencies and trips out),so I hope he likes some of them-lol!

EYM-Glad the meeting with your HV went well.x

Jonah-5-6 milk feeds? How much does your ds have each time? Oscar is having 3 meals a day.Rice for brekkie and veg and rice for lunch and supper.Bit annoyed with the HV as she went mad when I said I bought some baby cereal(as rice seems a bit boring for brekkie)as it wasn't gluten free and had fruit in it.She's told me not to give him fruit as he'll get a taste for sweet things.Today I went to Boots and I've now bought a powdered fruit dessert and a fruity breakfast,so I'm going to try them.So far he has eaten every veg I've given him but he doesn't like juice-I'm sure its because he's not used to sweet/fruity flavours!!
I'm now really confused and don't really know what I'm doing but ds is about 19lb's,so I'm not too worried at the mo.
Glad your day went well.We had lunch in BHS,who heated ds's jar too much, then we stuck it in cold water to cool it down. After all that he didn't even like it-lol!

Hi Lummox-Haven't tried the highchair yet, although my friends little girl used it a couple of months ago and she quite liked it-he he!
LOL at the swet potato.Ds's nappy was like that the first time he had Butternut squash.

WElshie-Glad you enjoyed your day out.Might actually go on the wobbly bridge tomorrow so I'll look out for the baby changing facilities.Hope the prune juice does the trick!

Went out everywhere today to get a chocolate coloured changing bag and couldn't get one anywhere. We got the Maclaren in Mothercare, but they don't do that colour and in the M&P shop they had a stoney colour one but it was huge.Ended up with a pink piglet kids school bag which is great(from Argos-ha ha!)and funnily enough goes very well with the buggy.
Also bought ds his outfit for christmas day which is really cute but not too silly-just a festive top and red trousers.Oooooh not long to go now-I can't wait,I love Christmas.

MrsWednesday · 07/11/2005 21:32

Hope the prune juice gets him moving Welshie. I'd already taken DS to see Wallace and Gromit by the time I read your post and you're right, the big bunny was scary. Luckily I think DS1 missed it because we were in the loo on one of his numerous toilet visits (he got a bit bored and restless after a while). DS2 was great, slept through the whole thing.

Glad you all had a nice meet-up today.

Skyler, have also forgot to strap the carseat in - twice! Luckily not for long journeys, and no harm done but I did feel very guilty.

EYM, sounds like you've got a nice health visitor to talk to which is a really good thing. I'm sure the vicar won't mind about the phone if you explain the circumstances. Hope you have a lovely time at the wedding, no doubt it will be an emotional day given that some very important people won't be there.

Well DS2 had his best night's sleep in a long time last night, only woke up once. Not what you want to read, Skyler, I know, but he definitely was on a growth spurt a few weeks ago and was feeding much more during the night then (he's 22 weeks now). Hope you get a better night tonight.

Good to see you Pink, hope you can pop on a bit more when things settle down.

Do you think we all scared Twitchet off? The thought of buying such a big round must have driven her away.

Right, I've got to go and read my book club book - it's on Thursday and I've been putting off reading it because the book is rubbish (my choice too unfortunately).

Thanks for that Lynny-what a good idea, althogh I wouldn't fancy fruit at veg mushed together-lol!
We bought Ds a beaker in Mothercare yesterday so will try and use this soon-how exciting.
Hope you enjoy bournemouth-think the weather is going to be nice.

katzguk · 08/11/2005 08:21

are any of you using Annabel Carmels book? its great for weaning and when different things should be introduced. i used it for DD1 and she will now eat pretty much anything inc curry chilli and mexican food.

remind me never to count my chicken beforem they hatch, back to square one again last night dd2 woke up 4 times, but then we all have horrible sore throats so i guess she could too.

Welshie/sfx- good to see you too, yes I felt that I didn't talk much either! actually realised how sleep deprived I am as was hard to string a sentence together...has given me extra resolve to sort out night sleep.

last night wouldn't go down AT ALL without me and slept in the bed.......this morning put him in the pram wide awake (but nap time) and out under the tree - out like a light without a peep.sigh

will catch up with all else later, Dd wants to play!

Hi all
I am here, lurking. My brain is mush and I am very tired. Sorry.
Thanks for Bumbo comments. I am kind of glad that you are actually not that impressed. I seem to remember thinking that the babies could not actually use them for that long a time and that they were expensive for that short time. The babies still look very cute in them though.
SFX- Where did you live before the UK?
Welshie - Sorry to hear you are approaching such a difficult anniversary too. I can't imagine how hard it must be .
EYM - Thinking of you too. Your HV sounds great. Def use a phone during the wedding. What a great idea.
Lynny - You have the patience of a saint. How do you stay so cheerful. Enjoy your weekend. Jess will settle fine although it is a lovely idea to take the familiar things with you. Don't be surprised if it is a travel cot in the hotel though. We have always had travel cots at hotels we have been too although they have all been in Cyprus.
Mrs W - Thanks for sharing the car seat escapades too. Isn't it scary how easy it is to do? I put dd2's seat in the car, then strap dd1 in then go back to dd2 to strap her seat in which is how I forgot .
Hi Red - Sorry you are sleep deprived too. Your dh is back from Japan now isn't he??
I saw KVG on another thread and she is MIA due to lack of sleep too. Her dd is in the same frame of mind as mine and SFX's and Reds and waking every two hours. Yawn.
Bubb - Glad weaning is going so well. Like Katz I recommend Annabel Karmels books. I have Superfoods and it is EXCELLENT. I wouldn't bother giving ds baby juice unless he is bunged up. DD1 is still happy with water or milk at 2.7 and it makes me worry much less about her teeth and carpet spills etc. Easier in the long run IME. Have fun.
Too tired to do any more. Sorry. I have just realised I have totally forgotten about musical tots this afternoon. Gutted. It is half way through now. Oh well.
Have good days all.

bubbaloo · 08/11/2005 17:25

Wow-it's been really quiet on here today.

We went up to work which was really nice-seemed so strange and there were a couple of new faces.
Didn't go on the wobbly bridge though as time was getting on and we didn't want to catch the mad rush hour on the way back.Ds was totally made a fuss of and my boss had bought him a gorgeous outfit, which was really nice of her.
Ds was so good as usual and spent the whole day laughing at everyone.I even sat him at my desk and took a picture of him so it can go in his scrapbook-ha ha ha!

Lynny-Haven't heard of Elbow,so probably showing my age here, but I've also seen Elton in concert and he was great.Apart from Freddie and Queen,Elton is up there as one of my fav's.

Katz/Skyler-Think I might get one of Annabel Karmel's books.I've been chatting on another website and the mum's there also sung her praises!

Evening All. Many thanks for the kind welcomes, I really appreciate it.

Haven't been frightened off Mrs W but have had hairy last few days. Ds has had terrible (sorry) diahorrea, for 12 hours and I was finally panicked into visitng Dr's yesterday. The lovely Dr checked him over and said she thinks he's fine but that his routine has been upset by monstrous weekend visit to M & FIL's. Poor little pickle is exhausted after rotten nights for the last three days and too many people picking him up and overstimulating him. I try and stop them but it's very hard and Dh is lovely but useless at telling his family to back off.Aggghh! I become horrible DIL of course. Up shot is that I'm now even more obsessed by DS's sleepng and napping and after yet more failed naps, took him out today and walked him UNTIL he fell asleep and then stayed out in the rain to keep him asleep too LOL! Worked though, because he slept for three and a half hours in the end, (at home too) and his eyes are slightly less pink thank goodness and he's slightly less ratty. He was still difficult to get down tonight, but it's a start. Sleep seems to be such a Catch 22, the less he gets the more he needs, but the less he seems able to sleep.

I really thought we'd got past waking up a zillion times a night and being a ratty baby who doesn't nap but suddenly after a trip to the inlaws I'm right back where I was four weeks ago. So frustrating. Oh well. Time for some sleep now.

Thanks for letting me lurk and rant. x
