Gah, wrote a long reply about flat heads Beaditali but it has got lost in cyberspace! Short version - one of my boys had it, saw GP, she said not serious enough for NHS treatment, started using little shaped pillow and it didn't get any worse.

I still can see the "flat patch" when his hair is wet but my DH can't at all!

bellabelly · 21/01/2011 08:41

Wish I'd started using the pillow a lot earlier but I was worriesd about all teh SIDS stuff about avoiding pillows.

God there's always something to worry about as a parent, isn't there?!

bananastew · 21/01/2011 10:21

Dixie When I held my friends baby when Toby was small her head felt wierd cos it was round!! I also notice Tobys when I see his mirror image cos one side sticks out & when you look at his reflection its the wrong side sticking out! No one else notices it tho!

bellabelly · 21/01/2011 11:04

Hello again ladies, just a quick boast from me - have managed to take all 4 out on my own for the first time! To a lovely French class thing which just started at my local children's centre. The boys really liked it, the babies were happy in their buggy and the other mums seemed really nice too. Have been in "hibernation mode" for ages now, it was really nice to get out and talk to some actual adults Grin.

beaditAli · 21/01/2011 11:24

Thanks guys. have taken some pics of Jack's head this morning so will try and upload them today. If you wouldn't mind keeping an eye on here for them I'd really appreciate you taking a look and passing comment. I don't mind if you call him a freak Sad Wink

Dixiebell · 21/01/2011 11:44

I have the lilla kudis pillow now, but just use it in the boucer, on playmat, in pram etc but not in cot at night. Hope will get better as he sits more.

Just been to NCT free coffee & cake thing, and going out for lunch with dad and stepmum shortly. Good day, especially at end of week when I start getting a bit fed up being on my own. DH has an operation next week, don't tell him but I'm really looking forward to it as he'll be him recuperating for two weeks! Makes days so much better when he's around to chat to :)

Arlo is really trying to roll over, so sweet he's a bit like a turtle that's been put on its back and can't right itself! Except on his front. He has managed it once but can't seem to work out how to do it again. Not from lack of effort though.

Does anyone else have the baby whisperer book? One if the NCT mums just recommended it for trying to get Arlo to nap in his cot during the day.

Arlo 15 + 4

saoirse86 · 21/01/2011 11:58

beadit Orlaith has a bit of a flat head too but so do many of the babies in the older baby group we go to so I think it's pretty normal and apparently it'll change when they're not lying down all the time.

I saw a programme once about twins with flat head who had treatment. They had to wear these horrible head shaping things most of the day and they looked so uncomfortable. I wouldn't want to do that to Orlaith!

Have you tried more tummy time to try and stop it worsening? Bella do you remember where you got the pillow from or what it was called?

newmum Orlaith's feeding has decreased too. She used to have about 35-40oz a day, now it's 22-26oz a day. When I saw the nurse about her cold and ear infection he said she probably just feels uncomfortable while she's got an infection and it should get better. He said as long as she still has lots of saliva and wet nappies, and she's putting on weight ok then don't worry about it.

Boast coming up.... Orlaith slept from 10-6, then 6.05-9.15 last night!! Grin Grin Grin

saoirse86 · 21/01/2011 12:03

Dixie I'm so impressed you've been to a coffee morning I have only managed a morning activity 2 or 3 times and that was only going to the doctors (with DP's help getting ready first).

And Bella going out with 2 sets of twins? Shock How on earth do you manage that?!
Your children must get so much attention everywhere you go. Every time my sister and I go to a new baby group or whatever with our babies everyone assumes they're twins. Apparently they look the same but I can't really see it, especially as Orlaith's 3lb heavier than Imara. When we tell them they're not twins they always look disappointed! Sad

beaditAli · 21/01/2011 12:33

Ok..... pics are up of Jack's heeeeeeed. Just click on my name on this post and you can see pics in my profile. Please be honest....... I don't mind!
bella I hope someone bought you a SuperWoman badge for Christmas!? Smile

comixminx · 21/01/2011 13:11

saoirse I know what you mean about hardly making it out for morning stuff! I have made it to a couple of film mornings and one or two doctor's appts but mostly I stay in during the morning - esp as Aphra's long nap starts around 11:30 or 12 if I can possibly help it! Am having lunch now in peace and quiet Grin - she went to sleep a little later than usual, more like 12:20 than 11:30.

comixminx · 21/01/2011 13:15

beadit, where's the flatness? Not joking - I can't tell from the pics. (I think that means his head is fine!)

saoirse86 · 21/01/2011 13:36

beadit I can't see it either, if you think his is bad, Orlaith's must be horrendous!

cinnamongreyhound · 21/01/2011 13:39

I assume the darker patch of hair is the front of his head beaditAli? It isn't any worse than ds1 had it but I know it's really worrying, wait until he sits and then worry about it. The treatment is horrible as saoirse86 says and I think it will get much better. Apparently treatment is more common in the states but here not many babies have treatment. My mum was very worried but as I told her we didn't spend anywhere near as much time on our backs and we were put to sleep on out tummies.

Ds1 has no problem with hearing so now we are going down the route of speech therapy. I always thought children who had speech therapy came from families who always had the tv on and never bothered to speak to their children (sorry for any offence none meant). I talked to him always about everything we saw and we don't always have tv on for us and he didn't watch it himself until he was 2. I feel really teary now, don't want him to have to go through loads of therapy :(

JodeyLea · 21/01/2011 14:07

Hiya all.

Had a lush time with my bessie mate and her 6 month old daughter and am feeling much batter about the weight loss as weighed myself this morning (know I shouldn't) and I was down 5lbs since Monday so think I probably was retaining water. Phew!!! Thanks for all your reassurance.

Very very jealous about your LO's rolling. Harlyn will lift his head and shoulders when on his front but eventually gives up and start crying. He doesn't even attempt to roll. He is very broad across his shoulders and back so wonder if he find it hard???

He still isn't sleeping much during the day (x4 20 minute cat naps if I'm lucky) and still waking up simultaneously farting and crying around 4am ish. Still loving his food and draining 80z bottles x5 times a day.

Congrats to Orlaith on having the first tooth. Very exciting. Not sure if Harlyn is teething. He gets quite grumpy and fussy but it could be gas, tiredness or possibly teething. How can you tell if it is teething? Should I be checking his gums?

Also, I still haven't had a period!!!! Anyone else out there still waiting?

Harlyn 16 weeks today.

bellabelly · 21/01/2011 14:13

mmmmmm, free cake... Dixie, I am jealous!

saoirse, I'm trying to remember about the pillow - think I still have it somewhere. I think I bought it from Blooming Marvellous (which got taken over by Mothercare I think). It is really small with a sort of padded ring (feels like it's stuffed with beanbag balls) round the outside to protect the head and stop baby lying flat on one side all teh time.

Haha, I am still feeling pleased with myself for going out this morning. I am going to celebrate by watching dvd of Sexandthe City 2 while I feed the girls this afternoon (and maybe making myself that superwoman badge Grin)!

cinnamon - we are in the process of getting one of the boys some speech therapy. Like you, I thought it was all to do with minimal parent interaction, etc etc. But Tom's speech is fine while William's really needs work. I am blaming nature not nurture!

bellabelly · 21/01/2011 14:25

Beaditali, I can see the merest hint of flatness near his crown - so right handside in 3rd pic from top. I def wouldn't have noticed at all if I hadn't been looking for it, iyswim. Tom's was definitely much more pronounced than that and like I said it looks fine now.

beaditAli · 21/01/2011 14:41

Thanks guys Smile the third pic from the top shows he's missing a good triangle shape from the right hand side and measuring the gap as though holding a piece of folded paper there, he's got a good 2" missing Shock
Can't believe you don't see it

beaditAli · 21/01/2011 15:05

I'll try for a better pic when he stays still for 2 seconds.

Dixiebell · 21/01/2011 16:46

It is hard to get out in morning I agree but blooming NCT seem to live putting on things that start at 9.30! But free cake is a good motivator ;)

My lunch however didn't go too well. Think it may have been too ambitious to go out twice in one day as it meant Arlo didn't nap this morning. Was over tired and right on cue as our lunch arrived he started fussing. Got hysterical and had to go outside so as not to disturb other diners, and then I got a migraine!! Argh. I hardly ever get them, no pain, just visual but makes me dizzy and slightly blind! So while I sat inside feeling woozy and not eating my lunch, dad walked around with screaming baby. Then he had to drive us back in my car as I was still blind! Not quite the lovely time we planned, and I'm sure my dad thinks I may not be coping too well now if I get a migraine whenever the baby cries (I don't!). Oh well, we're all back to normal now and Arli has had a good sleep. Better luck next time!

Dixiebell · 21/01/2011 16:49

Oh and beadit, jack's head looks just like Arlo's. They told me not to worry.

Dixiebell · 21/01/2011 17:03

And jodey, no periods yet for me either - 15 weeks +

cinnamongreyhound · 21/01/2011 17:18

I think your boys are much younger than my ds1 though bellabelly? It annoys me as I have pointed it out several times and been dismissed, he will start school in September and I'm quite worried now!

Got my first one last week JodeyLea, gutted as I'm still fully bfing. I got them back when ds1 was 17 weeks too but I had stopped feeding him at night by then.

bellabelly · 21/01/2011 18:38

Cinnamon - the boys are 3.5 so they start school in Sept too but August-born so they'll be the youngest. I raised the idea of speech therapy with HV ages ago because they weren't talking at all really but since they started talking about a year ago, Tom has been streaks ahead with pronunciation. William gets his consonants muddled, eg says "fuck" instead of "truck" which I am quite keen to get sorted!!! The doc checked his hearing and said it was fine (though we're waiting on a hospital check just to make doubly sure...)

beaditAli · 21/01/2011 19:18

cinnamon ..... really don't feel teary Smile I'm sure he'll be fine. I remember Mum going through a similar thing with me. A friend of hers was a Speech Therapist so we went to her house. I always felt really embarrassed but really, I have quite goofy teeth and am reeeeeeeeeeeeeally softly spoken which she couldn't figure as her other two are chatterboxes!
I was just behind a little I guess but shy too which didn't help.

I missed your post about this but hope you feel better about it. You're one of the pros on here...... we can't lose you to the dark side! [side] Wink

newmum001 · 21/01/2011 19:27

I can't see any flatness either beadit, i love love love his flat cap though. That top picture is so adorable!
