It's humbling to look back at the last year and see how our LO's have gone from helpless newborns to action-packed pre-toddlers.

BRING IT ON!!!

Well, DD was awake for just under three hours last night, starting at 23.30. I tried everything to resettle her. Feeding, paracetamol, put on her mobile (big mistake - she associates it with getting up time Hmm), co-sleeping, stroking her in her cot...

EVENTUALLY I worked out that she was simply a bit too hot, so took off the long-sleeved body she was wearing under her sleepysuit (I've been worrying about cold arms since we started with the gro-bag) and at last she fell asleep and let me put her back in her cot.
Ah well. That taught me a lesson.

A whingey day in prospect then. For both of us, I suspect! DH kept being woken up too, despite being in a different room. His meds aren't helping his sleep as some of the side-effects are proving less than relaxing (the night sweats).

But then I read poor old LBH's post and it put it into perspective. Meh, that sounds rubbish. I hope you have a better night tonight.

Very happy birthday to CS's gorgeous Shona! (love the name, too) Smile

Stangirl · 09/02/2011 08:48

Happy birthday CS DD2! Are you having a party?

LBH the timing is miserable with you started just back at work but do take a couple of days off, it can't be helped.

IC sorry to hear about the bad night.

Well I am finally well enough that I will struggle in for my first day back at work today. I've lost nearly half a stone in weight with sickness. My boss phoned last night and said not to turn up till 2pm - so that's nice. DD has settled at nursery already (DP has been taking her in since Monday) and quite frankly i think they are doing a far better job of parenting her than i do - far better food, she's eating and drinking more, has others to play with, tv isn't on all the time etc etc. It's costing us a fortune for the full 5 days a week (London prices) but they're going to do everything from teaching her to eat with a spoon to stop pinching people. Brilliant! All the stuff i can't be bothered with/haven't a clue how to do. We can swan in at weekends to take her to the swings and down the pub.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 09/02/2011 09:08

Grin at Stangirl's surrogate parenting!
Glad you're feeling better.

LBH thinking of you

Happy Birthday to Shona :)

Bearcrumble · 09/02/2011 09:27

Happy birthday Shona! Hope she has a lovely day.

Well it is now one solid week of poor DS being sick/hardly eating. I think he's getting better then I try and feed him something a bit more and he chucks up spectacularly. I am not doing it again - strictly what he wants when he wants and the minute he turns his head away that's it.

This morning he threw all his toast on the floor (slowly and thoughtfully, after first crumbling it up) but did eat most of a pot of Petit Filou.

I just hate seeing him visibly lose weight. It really, really gets me.

Last night at least wasn't too bad - I think he woke up three times for a half hour feed but DH rocked him to sleep again pretty quickly afterwards and he didn't get up for the day until half 7. I managed to get to sleep about half ten so I don't feel as mental as yesterday.

Stangirl I'm sorry you've been so ill too. Glad DD is settling in well at nursery.

Right I need to get ready for my dental appointment.

BabyGiraffes · 09/02/2011 09:50

Hmm we've had the not sleeping jinx, hoping we are not having a falling pregnant unexpectedly jinx on this thread... Grin

So much sickness about... Get well to all of you!! I feel slightly more human after two mugs of coffee and ibuprofen. We've had a rough night with me coughing (borderline chest infection now- I know the signs because of my asthma), dh ending up sleeping on the floor in dd1's room, dd1 suddenly screaming at 2 doubled up in pain... It took us ages to work out what the problem was (tummy ache around her bellybutton)and she just kept screaming. It was so unlike her that I had my car keys ready to drive her to A&E (did consider appendicitis). She did calm down, baby nurofen helped, and she fell asleep again past 3. The commotion woke dd2 of course... Then I couldn't get back to sleep because of my cough and feeling achy. Gave up and got up at 6 and walked into a few door frames on my way to the bathroom...Grin. I let dd1 sleep until past 8 and she then insisted on going to nursery Confused. I told them to phone if there is any concern, and I may still get her checked over this afternoon.

Stangirl · 09/02/2011 09:58

BC My DD didn't eat for 3-4 days with her bug last week and for 2 of those days didn't take any formula either. I know how horribly worrying it is but it sounds like he is improving a bit. I would consider it a good normal day if DD ate a whole PF for breakfast (though nursery seems to be changing all that - she scoffed an entire egg today for brekkie).

Hope dentist's is ok.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 09/02/2011 10:31

Aw, Bc, so tough when they're not eating properly, Sad no wonder you're worried. Sounds like you had some better sleep though, so that's something.
Good luck at the dentists (a lot of that about at the moment...!)

More for BG too. What a rotten night for you. Maybe your DD1 just had indigestion? I can totally relate to that.
It can be horribly uncomfortable.
Aw, the cough thing sounds totally rubbish, too. Big sympathy. Sad

Quick DD2 slept in the pram so no break for me today.

Thinking of all those with sick DC, DHs or themselves.

Happy Birthday Shona (I agree nice name Smile).

PenguinArmy · 09/02/2011 15:41

BC thinking of you. He'll catch up when he's better.

Because DD is in disposables, we're having to put her in 0-3 month trousers Grin well it made me chuckle.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 09/02/2011 18:10

Hah, I know what you mean, PA - we put a disposable on DD for overnight and it's as if she shrinks before our very eyes!

Well, after missing out on at least 2 hours of necessary sleep last night, DD's second nap was aborted after ten mins because she coughed herself awake. So I put her to bed early - she was asleep by 18.45, thankfully without protest.

I'm just hoping by doing so I've avoided too much in the way of over-tiredness and she'll sleep better tonight. And I've left off the long-sleeved body, so hopefully she won't get too hot either.
Fingers crossed. Personally, I could really use a night of more than four and half hours total sleep...

I've also dropped one of DD's day breastfeeds with a view to gradual weaning. Mind you, she still has four (one on waking, mid-morning, mid-afternoon and bedtime) so it's no great shakes. Having said that, she doesn't seem to be taking much per feed, although when I ask her if she wants any milk, she always crawls over to me with a face full of enthusiasm.

DS has yet another bronchiolitis! I think it the 6th or 7th one since June 2010 Sad So my day has been resumed to a clingy poorly boy who still wanting to play but only when on my knees.

PA the bumgenius are a bit bulky, I notice when I put DS in disposable that the trousers are far much easier to put on!

IC I hope the night goes well. It must be warm at yours, DS sleeps in a long sleeves vest, sleepsuit, fleece walk in sleepsuit and a grow bag!

bc hopefully the dentist went well

DS is whinging in bed now, I put it on him been unwell as he normally settle down for the night easily. Fingers crossed we'll have a good night. He now has stopped! Yeeepee!!

StoneBaby · 09/02/2011 19:33

BG Grin at the pregnancy jinx!

Stan is that not what nursery are there for? Grin I also pay a fortune for DS nursery (not London but Guernsey prices) I have to say the fee will be a big weight on the balance if we have a 2nd DC.

Time for some Wine

bethylou · 09/02/2011 22:34

Happy birthday Shona - I love the name too.

Can't remember if I mentioned my chest infection yesterday or not, but my helpful MIL has just told DH on the phone that I need oil of olbas when she heard me coughing in the background. Yeh, thanks.. I'll stick with the antibiotics and inhaler me thinksSmile. However, did just realise that DH didn't even tell her how brave I have been going to work for three days with a chest infection and then looking after the boys etc.. Wink Lots of sympathy to BG and SB's DS (and all vomiters, obviously).

Mum didn't hear any news today at the hospital - they did tests and she now has to wait about two weeks so no news for a while. She did say she might possibly consider surgery if it's needed - so that's a start. Smile

PA even my little sumo is slimming down a little now he's up and walking! I'm very jealous of your DD stopping to play with things. DS2 only stops to play with wires, dirt on the floor, DS1's most precious toys and his own vomit on the floor!!! He did, however, enjoy picking up a large plastic ball this evening, throwing it and then toddling after it and repeating - he looked very cute! If your DCs haven't got a big (but very light) ball yet, I'd highly recommend one as both mine have loved them. I'd like to think I'm rearing the next Gary Lineker (my hero during my teens) but realistically I know that's unlikely!

Enough knackered rambling - night all Smile

SchrodingersCatFliesToOz · 10/02/2011 08:33

bethy they have to be amazingly cute now or they would be thrown through the window Wink
I hope your couch gets better soon (stick with the AB). It must be hard for your mum to wait.

BG Grin I will have to leave if there is a pregnancy jinx. I won't be able to survive a DC3.

DD2 decided to have a bath on her own. Shock I found her happily playing in the running bath fully dressed. She also run to put her hands into the toilet bowl every time it is not shut properly (thanks to DH and DD1). So she gets plenty of showers in between. She also drops random things in there (apple, toothbrushes, toys, papers...) which I have to dig out Hmm

She also have to eat whatever I eat, do whatever I do, see everything. I am constantly stomped, pulled, pushed, scratched, kicked, punched, bitten, pinched, head butted.... And if she doesn't have what she wants she will loudly complained. AArrggghhhhh
Stan from that point of view nursery sounds like a good deal Wink

PenguinArmy · 10/02/2011 09:06

Beth I got plenty of 'rest' the other night, don't you worry Wink. Actually last night, DH slept in with DD and brought her through just for feeding (which was still every 2 hours). Apparently she needed resettling every 30 mins, but I think that's because the nose is still stuffy at night. But I feel great now.

Schro Remember it's just because she loves you. DD has got quite clingy, but I'm loving it, especially if the ILS had their way I wouldn't spend any time with her this week (only 2 sleeps to go).

InmaculadaConcepcion · 10/02/2011 10:01

Love the pic of your DD in the bath, Shro!!
Blimey, you've got your hands full and no mistake....

Someone else with a chest infection...! Bummer, bethy. I hope you get shot of it soon.

What a shame for your DS to get poorly again, SB. Poor wee mite, it's rough.

Your DH sounds like a top geezer, PA, doing the night-shift. Good job!

A better night at Casa IC, thankfully. Not brilliant, but a big improvement. DD woke three times, but two of those were fairly quick resettles. Once again, she woke at 23.30 and took over an hour to resettle. But that's still an improvement on the 3 hours of the previous night.
Both times what eventually worked was bringing her in with me, waiting until she unlatched herself and fell asleep, then carrying her back into her cot.

I still suspect she may be a little hot, so will just put her in a long-sleeved body tonight, instead of a sleepy-suit. That way her legs will be bare under her sleeping bag.
The nights are still chilly, but getting gradually warmer. And yes, DD's room is quite warm and even warmer as I've been sharing it with her lately.

On the other hand, it may just be one of those funny phases and she'll stop doing it of her own accord in a day or two (or, preferably, tonight)

On a different note, I took DD out for a walk using the easy back carry on our Connecta sling (it's like a more structured Mai-Tai) - she seemed perfectly happy riding on my back and as well as it being more comfortable now she's heavier, I wasn't getting my face/glasses etc. grabbed. Win all round!

SconesForTea · 10/02/2011 10:14

Quick fly-by as DD due to wake up any minute (read right now) and I've spent 40 mins on the phone to my DSis rather than have shower and get dressed.

Happy birthday for yesterday to Shona! Did she have a lovely day?

Huge changes afoot here, I snapped yesterday and told DH the dog had to go. Straw that broke the camel's back was he chewed up a wooden library toy i've been meaning to return for weeks. Very unpredictable, he's never chewed a toy of hers before in nearly a year. I just can't take it any more. DH agrees it's the right thing to do - we don't have time for him, he neeeds a LOT of attention and training not to mention far more walking than he gets - but still spent last night in tears as he posted an advert for him Sad. I feel like the wicked witch of the west, but also sooooooo relieved at the prospect of a dogless house.

Get well bethy, BG, poor you (plural).

Schro Shock at DD2's antics!!! It is a very good job they are cute, isn't it!

Right I do have to go now. Wonder where Abs has got to...?

PenguinArmy · 10/02/2011 10:20

Scones I think that unfortunately considering the stress he causes you, you both deserve for him to be in a new home. Doesn't mean it won't be upsetting. You can't help how you feel, especially since you never signed up for the responsibility. I meant to say all this at the time, but somehow never got round to it.

Maybe Abs is recovering from her TTC weekend Grin Seriously I hope your OK!

Further good luck to the poorly babies and tired mummies (LBH, Beth Stand etc).

Bearcrumble · 10/02/2011 10:59

Miserable here. DS awake from 2am until 5.30 and would only sleep on me - had to send DH downstairs on the sofa and prop myself up in bed with pillows and hold him in my arms.

Threw up breakfast yoghurt (all over sofa) because he managed to get a bit of my flapjack and it made him gag.

Really worried we'll have to cancel his birthday party.

My mum and my cleaner have caught it. Feel dreadfully guilty.

Get well soon to all the other poorly mums and babies.

Scones It is understandable. Still sad but you gave the dog a good chance and I'm sure it will find a good home.

PA Your husband is a love.

Bethylou Glad your mum seems to be softening a bit in her attitude towards treatment. Fingers crossed that there won't be any needed.

My dad got the all clear for his bladder growths last week (don't know if I mentioned it?). He had to put of coming to England to meet DS until last Nov because he was having lots of treatment but it seems to have worked. They're still going to do a few wash outs every few months as a prophylactic measure.

It's a grim, rainy day here in S London - but at least my garden is full of snowdrops.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 10/02/2011 11:18

Aw, Bc, rubbish, rubbish, rubbish.
Don't feel guilty, though. Nora bugs are notoriously easy to catch, unfortunately - that's why they close hospital wards etc. when they strike.
Your poor little DS. I hope he'll be all better again soon. You must feel like it's never-ending ATM.
Good news for your dad, so that's something.
And snowdrops...! How lovely.

Aw, Scones, it sounds like the right decision, but it's always hard to part with a pet, even if they've been a royal PITA. I hope you find somewhere good for him to go.

OP posts:
PenguinArmy · 10/02/2011 15:05

We've just found two new teeth. That might explain some things.

I love snowdrops. We got married at hodsock priory and they have big snowdrop thing there. Enjoy soaking up the view from the lovely warmth of inside.

StoneBaby · 10/02/2011 18:50

DS managed to spend 4 hours at nursery today before been send back home! So it's another 1 & 1/2 days annual leave for me as he is not allowed back tomorrow.

scone it's probably best, especially if you can't give it the care and attention he needs.

bc It's a bug, you are not responsible for your mum and cleaner catching it.

schrod lovely pix

BG antibiotics are the only answer I know for a chest infection.

PenguinArmy · 10/02/2011 19:06

stone he does have bad luck doesn't he, poor chap.

DD tonight ate a whole (baby) bowl of lentil, half a yogurt, half an orange and a couple of strawberries Shock I decided not to feed her myself before bed. I also had MIL watching me explaining how it's just bad habits that make DD wake up in the night.

Oh well, hopefully in a few days I'll stop being such a moaning minnie. She's talked to me today, yesterday it was just the two of us and she just ignored me and went into the other room.

I do know however, that they absolutely adore DD and all the barging (literally) us out the way is just because they care.
