....thought i'd better start a thread as there are currently 4 of us, with several more to follow!

Joey is now 4 days old (where did the time go?!?), and is doing really well. He actually managed to sleep through with just one feed last night, though i must confess i cheated and had him in bed with me (at my MW's recommendation!) as he was so fretful the night before.

Looking forward in the coming days and weeks to welcoming the other members of the Oct 05 antenatal group to this post-natal club, so i won't feel like Billy No-Mates, talking to myself

Hi guys hope all is going well with your little bundles. Cameron weighed 8lb 10oz and is now probably about 11lb 7oz (havent had him weighed this week) but thats going on his weight gain so far.

I am trying to get him into the (dare I say it), Gina Ford routine, I started it with my dd, now 3, when she was 6 weeks and she still sleeps from 7 - 7 (roughly) and I said I would not start it with this little one until he was 6 weeks but I just kind of started it as it was all I knew - it has been hard but now that he is 6 weeks I am hoping that it will start going more smoothly. The hardest part has been trying to keep him awake during the day plus he was screaming for about 3 nights from 7 - 10 but I am sure thats because he wasnt tired enought to go to sleep then. But now he sleeping at that time as I have really percevered with the crying during the day to keep him awake but now he is waking twice in the night for a feed and I think he gets enough during the day (I bottle feed) as I am giving him the right amount for his weight (sometimes and extra once here and there. I tried settling him with water both times last night but he wasn't having it.

I'm so sorry for rambling just had to get it all out!!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 08/12/2005 13:55

Mummygow - hope you are ok... we are all here to support one another!

RTL... i know what you mean about the bouncy chair thing - we are up to about 25 minutes - woo hoo! (She still refusing to sleep though!)

Someone tell me Rebecca CANT be teething already... she was really fractious earlier this morning, we felt her gums - they are ROCK solid and definate "teeth" bumps.... SCARED or what! We put the tiniest amount of Bonjela on her gums and let her chew our fingers for a bit and she settled instantly! (All new to me as Jessica was nearly 10 months before she got a single tooth... Rebecca is only just 6 weeks FGS!)

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 08/12/2005 13:57

Oh an MG - our babies share their birthday! Rebecca was born at 12:15am on the 25th October weighing 7lbs 4oz. Had her weighed this morning and she is a whopping 10lbs 4oz!

mummygow · 08/12/2005 14:01

Jessicaandrebbecasmum cant believe you called your little girl Rebbeca - that was our name for a girl and as I think I've told you before my dd who is 3 is called Jessica and now we have wee ones who share the same birthday, Cameron was bor at 7.44am

Redtartanlass · 08/12/2005 14:23

yorkefleet don't think you sound like a cow at all in fact quite mild to what i put dp through

mummygow, can't help you with the routine milarky, I'm needing all the help I can get. It is sooooooooooo hard with 2, ds2 is 22 months. Especially if you have to carry one everywhere and the other is just beginning terrible 2s with vengeance.

I don't remember it being so hard with ds1!

Jess&bump - you ok, not 'seen' you round recently.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 08/12/2005 14:30

RTL... Im ok hun... just trying to adjust to this 2 under 2 malarky! Dont get to spend all that much time on the computer anymore, always someone to be fed, changed, put to bed or played with!

MG... That is SO weird!! Cameron is a gorgeous name though, and I bet you are chuffed with your little lad. (Secretly wish i had a boy, but theres always next time!!)

Redtartanlass · 08/12/2005 14:56

hey notice how all the new mums on ourbthread have not bothered with xmas names.....what does that tell you?

YOKEFLEET · 08/12/2005 15:10

RTL - we are all too busy!!! I have trouble remembering my own name with this sleep deprivation!
J&RM - do you plan on having another???

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 08/12/2005 17:21

oh god yeah.... just not until these 2 are at school!

YOKEFLEET · 08/12/2005 18:05

J&RM - I wonder why!!!!

Thomas has spent most of today asleep! I wonder what tonight will bring! (mind you my house looks tidy for the first time since he was born- just so long as you don't look behind the sofa!!)

pogface · 08/12/2005 18:12

hi everyone,
havent been around for a while, life is busy, funnily enough, even with one small baby and no job...dont know how all you single mums or mums with 2/3/4/ kids manage!

Mummygow, do you recommend Gina Ford then? I got given the book as a birth present, it really scared me and i was a lot more strict and stressed in the first few weeks as a result, but have since given up on it, and now im stuck wondering if i did the right thing. Ds is 5 weeks, feeding every 3 hours thru the night.

How do you get them to sleep through the night?
Elf - whats your secret with Evie? Hope she is feeling better, Jem is still having to take VILE and GRUESOME bright pink antibiotics for his belly button, he spits pink froth and all his babygros are getting pink collars.

i am NOT THINKING about Xmas. its a bit depressing when you have literally no money (got charged 3 times for going over my overdraft limit this month ). i hope no-one gets me anything either cos i will feel so mean ...

p xx

pogface · 08/12/2005 18:14

oh and Yokefleet, your nighttime barney was nuthin compared to ours - sample "Ive got work tomorrow!" - "oh so looking after jem isnt work?" "No its not!"

hmmmm

Elf1981 · 08/12/2005 18:18

LOL Yoke. My house is a tip!! Its not too bad, but at the moment there is Xmas pressies strewn everywhere and about twenty zillion empty boxes from all the deliveries I've had.
Tomorrow I MUST wrap all my Xmas pressies as on Fri eve and Sat I am pressie delivering. Bet that means that Evie's going to be wanting loads of extra attention, she always seems to know when I'm not sat there looking at her while she's sleeping thinking how gorgeous she is!!

Elf1981 · 08/12/2005 18:22

Aww, Pogface, cheer up!
Have you read The Baby Whisperer? I thought about it the other day when I read one of your other threads. There is quite a bit of advice in there about babies "unlatching" (app v common with boys). Let me know if you havent got it and I'll copy some info down for you.
Anyhoo, I'm just really lucky with Evie. I think she just takes after me, I slept from 8:00 - 8:00 right from being born. She usually sleeps through or wakes up once in the night. I find the grow bags are wicked, as it stops her kicking her covers off and then crying becaus she is cold.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 08/12/2005 19:17

We have officially given up on the grow-bag.... Becky didnt really like it all that much, so we are down to vest, sleepsuit and a fleece sleepsuit over the top, and it is working better.

Rebecca has been a PITA today and im just about ready to chuck her or myself out the window! Oh well, here's hoping for a quiter night!

danishmummy · 08/12/2005 20:03

Just a quick hello to everyone. Wish I had time to catch up on this thread (and some sleep!). Being single mum of two is sometimes even harder than I feared... but doing a bit better now than I was.

RTL -- lovely to see you back! Yep, I know what you mean about a challenging toddler... Has been a bit better here lately, though, although she has quickly learnt how she can get away with things while baby Martin is attached to my boob!

Yokefleet -- late TILLYKKE with baby Thomas. Hope your mum is better.

YOKEFLEET · 08/12/2005 20:55

I'm sure I am being really thick but what is PITA and TILLYKKE???
Danishmummy - thanks my mum is doing ok now, looks like she has gone 5 rounds with Mike Tyson mind you!!

YOKEFLEET · 08/12/2005 20:55

PITA- pain in the ass???????

pogface · 08/12/2005 21:12

ive heard quite a bit abt the baby whisperer lately - seems a lot more popular than gina ford on these boards. id love some info on it, thanx elf.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 08/12/2005 21:18

PITA - pain in the ass YES!

Tillykke is danish for congratulations!

Fingers crossed this sleeping baby i have stays this way tonight!

YOKEFLEET · 08/12/2005 21:40

J&RM - Thanks, fingers crossed that all our babies sleep well tonight!
Danishmummy - thank you

Elf1981 · 08/12/2005 22:08

The Baby Whisperer does seem to make a lot of sense. I especially like the quick reference sections. One thing that made me think of your prob was "my baby seems to forget how to latch on", the reason why (so says the book) is "all babies, espcially boys, at times 'forget' - they lose focus. It also can mean that a baby is over hungry". The solution (so says the book) is "out your pinky into your baby's mouth for a few seconds to give him a focus and a reminder of how to suck. Then pop him back on the breast. If he's overhungry and you know you have a slow letdown, prime your breasts before latching him on".
I also like the section on what each cry tends to mean (description on the type of cry and what potential body movements are coupled with it). It tends to be spot on with Evie!
I've not been following any particular routine she has (I think the main function of hers is EASY, which is Eat, Activty, Sleep and You time). I tend to let Evie set the routine, but I've been dipping in and out of the book. It's also very well written, like having a chat with your best mate (albet a know-it-all one)!!

YOKEFLEET · 09/12/2005 09:48

Thomas is doing better with this sleeping lark..we have had a few nights now where we have put him down in the cot still awake (last week and previous weeks he would just scream if put in there awake) we got one of those lullabye lights, the ones that make patterns on the ceiling, it has a cycle of 4 mins, we have played that twice and he has gone to sleep! last night he was asleep at 11 and woke for a feed at 3 then did the same again and he slept until 7 fed again and put him back in without the light as it was light anyway and he still went off until 9.30 yippeee
DH has just rung to say that he heard on the radio that giving a baby a dummy can reduce the risk of cot death by 90%, Thomas doesn't have a dummy, has he heard this right?

elclose · 09/12/2005 10:43

Hi everyone not had time to read all messages but thought i'd give a quick update. Posted with a few of you in oct early nov, Baby was due 27th oct but finall;y had him on 2nd nov after a very quick 1hr24mins labour from start to finish!!! Guess being over due has its good bits, payed for it though as had 2 bouts of mastitas ,and could hardly walk for 3 weeks!!
Things are getting better now, feeding ect and sort of a sleep routine its dd1 that has decided to wake at night ect xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Elf1981 · 09/12/2005 10:48

Yoke - thats what was on Breakfast this morning. But, although the studies suggest that it can reduce the risk by 90%, if you fail to give the baby a dummy one night it can increase the risk to more than was it was before introducing the dummy. Apparently the study misses that bit out, but its shown up in other studies.
