wonderstuff · 12/01/2011 17:18

9 costing a fortune! Poor sausage must have a poorly tummy?

WhatSheSaid · 12/01/2011 18:19

wonderstuff yes you can use cow's milk for breakfast etc from this age, as long as it's not for the main drink i.e. main drink is still formula or breastmilk till they're one.

mlic you're still not gettign that much sleep are you? I have no idea how you have the energy for all the other stuff you do, our house was a pit when G was in her bad non-sleepig phase.

Melissa hope ear infection goes soon.

Amber necklaces for teething are really popular over here, loads of kids wear them - I've never got one though as A never had too much trouble teething.

HOw's this for "unobservant 2nd-time mum". G got her first tooth and I hadn't even noticed. One of the other mums at the park pointed it out yesterday. To be fair, it's only the very tip that has poked through btu it's def there and looks like the one next to it is almost through. She hasn't even been grizzly though there's been lots of dribble and some nappy rash too.

Thanks for advice re bottles/formula. Is everyone still sterilising?

WhatSheSaid · 12/01/2011 19:21

tsc hope Frankie is much improved, I'm just wondering if you are actually my sister as she lives in Manchester and is a United fan and her dh is a Southampton fan... Also there was a thread in AIBU about "I hate Manchester and the North in general", basically saying anywhere that was not London was shit shit shit and there was just nothing to do in the grim North. Don't know if it's still in active convos but I was getting pissed off with her from the other side of the world.

kkfairybrains · 12/01/2011 19:28

Oh god i'd say that gave him a fair shock alright tsc! Poor little franks. Really hope he's ok and you don't need to go back.
Dh yes i'm still sterilising. I think the guidelines are to sterilise until they're a year old. Somebody correct me if i'm wrong!
Wrt the follow on milk my hv said the same about there's no need for it but i think i read somewhere that it has more iron but then they'll probably be gettin iron from their solids.
We've just booked our holiday!! 10 Days in turkey im may! can't bloody wait. My grandad has a house over there so will be staying there. Soooo looking forward to it Grin

kkfairybrains · 12/01/2011 19:29

[stops lurking] We're still meant to be sterilising? Oops... My book said that from 6 months everything just needed sterilising once per week, so that's what I've been doing for the past week or two. Confused

Oh well... M seems to be ok for it! She's a pretty tough cookie. (She'd have to be in this house...)

And you can chalk me down in the cuddly club for those who have a bit more padding than preferred... BF hasn't made me lose any weight, I'm hoping it'll fall off when I stop! I'm a couple of sizes larger than I'd prefer to be, currently wearing a limited wardrobe of my biggest things... [sigh]

Scary events for Cake and TSC. Sounds like everything turned out ok, hopefully there'll be lots of good times coming soon in compensation!

Is anyone else taking Sing and Sign classes? M and I are starting classes next week! I'm looking forward to it. :)

Evening ladies.

I gave Gwen my carrot/ baby rice/ breastmilk puree today, she loved it. Everything is now orange- the bib, her babygro, the bumbo, my jumper... I think she actually managed to swallow some of it too, although it's kind of hard to tell. The highchair arrived this morning, DH is putting it up now and I am more than reasonably excited. We went for this one (I hope that link works)
Cake, I LOVED that photo of A in her highchair, I've never seen such a happy baby!

TSC, are you ok? I hope Frankie is improving now, you must have been terrified.

Does anyone know what I can do if I don't want to give formula? Is BM my only option up to 1 year? I was hoping to have G off the breast by about 9 months so that we can get on with making another baby, but if I'm having to express of BF, obviously its going to slow us down. Can I give goats' milk maybe?

needle if you dont mind goat formula waitrose do nanny goat formula, it is more expensive though, my friend was bf when she tried to conceive she got there in the end then her daughter wouldnt feed from her, she was old enough to say yuk tastes nasty!! once she was pg her milk changed flavour!
well i had a sachet of goodnight milk to try tonight but its like that carobil and thickened it so L screamed! he only stopped when he fell asleep! dh and I had a huge row when he got back as he expects me to do everything in the day eventhough i had deliveries, coming and going and a screaming baby attatched to me, he apologised after he had a shower though, im glad to be going work tomorrow and let my mum deal with him! i think i know why L screamed all last night and all afternoon, last night i gave him his 1sy yoghurt and another for lunch, something clearly doesnt agree with him!

Needle · 12/01/2011 20:47

MLIC- I'm with you, but unfortunately DH has vetoed it. I'm still trying to work out What the hell that leaves me with, becuase I really don't want to wait till she's a year to start trying for another baby. I'm clearly going to have to reinforce the formula argument with hard facts and research.

wonderstuff · 12/01/2011 21:04

Needle I know a couple of people who fell pg at whilst bfing 9mo's by 9m they have cut down the amount of milk they drink so much bfing isn't effective birth control. I was bfing when I got pregnant, but dd was nearly 2 and only feeding once a day by then. She went off my milk straight away, before I knew I was preggers, tasted 'not nice'.

tsc so so pleased Frankles is out of hospital and on the mend. How're you feeling?

needle i was bf F when we were ttc no 2 (Aurelia!) - we fell pg on month 3. F was 13 months then.

Pleased you like the pic of Ms Happy Highchair Grin

I thought 6m for sterilising too actually (not that i did any for F cos he would only bf). is it just bottles that you'd sterilise not plates, water beakers etc? I'll need to know as i'll be expressing for A.

CakeandRoses · 12/01/2011 21:35

oh and F did not care a jot that i was pg. didn't seem to notice any taste change at all.

CakeandRoses · 12/01/2011 21:37

xposted you tsc. really sorry to hear you miscarried before.

CakeandRoses · 12/01/2011 21:40

needle what's dh's issue with formula? if we know that then we can probably help you with a counter-argument if you would prefer to stop bf at 9m Grin

seems odd that he'd be ok with goats milk but not cows milk (ie formula). I'm not judging at all, just trying to figure out his thinking.

memphis83 · 12/01/2011 21:44

cakes it is just bottles, cups and weaning stuff need a good clean!
i feel very left out that i couldnt BF :( oh well, i just have to think positive that in the night i can pass the bottle to dh!

Ok, well having been much cheered by all these stories of breastfeeding pregnancies, I'll have to badger DH into having more sex...

Cake, he saw a poster in the hospital when I was pregnant that said something about formula being linked to diabetes and it spooked him. There's such an anti formula movement at the moment. I'm inclined to think that it's hype, but he's really set on it.

Highchair is up, it looks so nice! I can't wait to put her in it.
