first day of dh being back at work. grump grump grump.

Mr F has been a delight but both of them were a pain to get down for naps this morning.

A slept thru (ie from dream feed til 6am then back down til 8am) for the first time since before xmas. dh put F in his room to play from 7amish when he woke up so i actually feel like i've had a night's sleep.

dh the thing with bf a 1yo is that they don't really seem any different as it's not like they've suddenly gone from being a newborn to a hulking 1yo overnight - they're still just your tiny baby. Smile it was weird cos i was still bf F at 14m and it seemed totally normal but within about a week or so of stopping i couldn't imagine doing it!

another vote here for the tomee tipee flip up cups - they're the best ones for first stage - don't waste your money on collecting a mountain of other cups like we did. these non-spill tommee tippee ones are also good for when they're a bit older but are messy drinkers, F still has these when drinking in bed.

CakeandRoses · 10/01/2011 12:06

just uploaded some pics of A in her new nest and F doing his beckham impression yesterday

chulita poor you I hope you feel better soon.

cakes I'm very Envy of your amazing sleeping baby.

Thanks for the recommendations about what cups are best. I ordered a doidy cup last week which came today I should maybe of asked on here before I ordered it Confused I hope it works. If I can be arsed expressing at some point today I'll give it a go tonight.

CakeandRoses · 10/01/2011 12:21

dythan the doidy is v good too but usually requires a lot bit of supervision unless you want water or milk everywhere!

all babies seem to get on well with that 1st stage tommee tippee without any mess. most nurseries use them too.

Dylthan · 10/01/2011 12:28

The other problem I have is that B will drink a little out of a bottle if it's freshly expressed milk, will only give a couple of sucks if the milk has been stored in the fridge but will give dh a look of total disgust if he tries to give her milk that was stored in the freezer.
And as for formula well that just offends her beyond believe.

Was really wanting to build a store of milk in the freezer before I started work but she just will not entertain it.

CakeandRoses · 10/01/2011 12:32

Freshly expressed milk does rather defeat the objective, non? ;-)

Are you warming the fridge/freezer milk?

Dylthan · 10/01/2011 12:45

I know Grin we just thought if we could get her used to the bottle first then that would be one battle down but I think we're admitting defeat on the bottle front.

We do warm the milk i think she's just a fussy little bugger. Hopefully this will mean that the universe will balance its self and she will be in no way fussy about food [wishful thinking]

Woodlands · 10/01/2011 14:01

J won't take milk that's been in the freezer either. I tried it once and it does taste odd. Not sure what to do with the 5 bags of milk left in there! I had stopped bothering to express but now am having to do a little bit fairly often to get some milk to make up J's porridge with. I could probably start using cow's milk soon I guess. He had yoghurt yesterday, his first dairy, and seemed fine with it.

Saw the HV this morning - J now weighs 19lb 9oz, still just under 91st centile. She asked if I had started weaning yet and I said yes, even though he's not quite 6 months yet (he's 25 weeks). She looked a bit confused and said yes he is - I think she was thinking 24 weeks is 6 months. Ah well.

DesperateHousewife20 · 10/01/2011 15:13

cakes without sounding like a weirdo, I think you're really pretty Blush

dylthan Dylan is the same if the milk is a few months old, if its the same week he's fine.

Has anyone read the BLW book? It says they are very unlikely to choke on finger foods, D has now choked (as in silent gagging) twice in 2 days Confused

DesperateHousewife20 · 10/01/2011 15:14

Oh cakes I should prob explain, I had a look at your new pics on facebook and you're in the background of one of them!

I agree dh i think cakes is very pretty too!
poor little frankie. Its seriously annoying when you just get the baby asleep and someone wakes them up. Anybody else finding it ridiculously hard to get the baby to sleep lately. Ellie will not go asleep unless she's in your arms and even then she fights and fights it. And she doesnt go down at 9 o clock anymore. It could be half 11 or 12 and literally the whole evening is spent trying to get her asleep and stay asleep. Very trying.

dh choking and gagging are two completely different things. They will most likely gag (S has gummed a piece of banana twice and gagged til he threw up both times, that's the extent of his weaning so far) but are highly unlikely to choke. HTH
tsc did Frankie have a virus not that long ago? or have I got my wires crossed? I'm with you on the toddlers vs. sleeping baby thing, I'd just got S down for a nap this morning and she comes running up the stairs, bangs on his door and says 'baby boy sleep' very loudly Hmm

WinterChillita · 10/01/2011 16:10

Hach! meant to say that if they are making spluttering noises they are gagging, choking is silent cos the windpipe is blocked. If they gag just encourage them to cough it up, if they're choking pat them on the back reasonably hard to dislodge the piece. (Got distracted before writing that and re-read to realise that I hadn't actually said anything useful at all!)

MelissaM · 10/01/2011 16:12

woodlands Bizarre thought but is the milk curdling in the freezer? Mine did with dd (something to do with a high enzyme I think) but is ok this time Confused.

tsc poor f. Is so frustrating when dc1 keeps waking baby. E is a nightmare for it. She just doesn't seem to get it that when he sleeps we can have some nice time together

i suppose its a case of if you sit down you won't get back up again?!

DesperateHousewife20 · 10/01/2011 17:15

mlic cheese and cucumber so far. I think it is gagging rather than choking, I always get the food out his mouth or he manages to swallow it.

lol chulita thank you it was helpful!

wonderstuff · 10/01/2011 17:31

Is anyone elses baby pooing for Britain since starting solids? Dylan is a pooing machine these last few days!
