Hey all, Not been keeping up cos I'm currently in obsessed early pregnancy mode, so I pretty much lurk on... pregnancy. Post a little when I feel like it but often don't as feeling quite sick Envy (

Flisspaps · 28/01/2011 19:59

donttry - Yes, hands free. She will not sit still. Crawling is now only for when she wants to get somewhere REALLY quickly. Would be much easier if she stayed where I left her to be honest, but now I'll put her down and wander off to do something, only to find I have a duckling behind me Grin Today she has ventured back into the hall so I'm back on banged-head-alert Hmm Now to see if we get past 9pm without any nightmares...

Arcadie Cat Byrne? I only remember the name as she has the same name as someone else that I do know. I sent her a message to say sorrym, she'd have no idea who I was.

Manda Fingers crossed that all is well tomorrow Smile

Hooray for sleeping babies - here's hoping for another snooze-filled night :o

Morning all I'm just back from A&E with Isobel. Waiting for formula to cool so have a few mins to post. Head is a bit fuzzy though so won't manage too many shout-outs. Basically, she woke suddenly at 10.30pm, coughing and crying. Then she vomited everywhere, was still coughing, and was very wheezy. I was worried she had something stuck in her throat so we drove up to the nearest A&E, where the triage nurses said it looked and sounded like croup. So we waited 3 and a half hours to see a doctor, by which time Isobel had been given some kind of syrupy stuff to help clear her throat, had had a bit of a sleep, and was no longer coughing or wheezing. So the doctor pronounced her fine, and sent us on our way with instructions to give her Calpol of necessary and bring her back of she got worse. Complete bloody waste of 3+ hours, and if I end up having to take her to the GP on Monday I'll be quite annoyed.

Pixie hope DD2 is getting better, poor thing.

Manda good luck with the scan. I remember how terrified I was at all of mine, with absolutely no reason, so to tell you not to worry would make me a hypocrite. But I'm sure it will all be fine :)

Glad to hear about babies sleeping better (Isobel is improving in that area, but in a two steps forward, one step back fashion).

to everyone. Must sleep.

BusyMissIzzy · 29/01/2011 03:18

P.S. Smac love the Elk top! And anyone who's spoken to Melk in RL/on FB/by text will know that the name of the website is suitably apt too Grin

Flisspaps · 29/01/2011 08:58

BMI Hope Isobel is better this morning. And that you managed to get several hours sleep all in one go. 3.5 hours to see a doctor? You'd have thought they'd have seen her more quickly given how young she is. Glad that they think nothing terrible is wrong though :)

slimmingsarahandco · 29/01/2011 11:50

BMI- hope Isobel is ok this morning and you dont have to back to the docs, x poor thing,

Nothing to add here but am reading x

MandaHugNKiss · 29/01/2011 16:11

It measures 1.28cm (7+4days) and I heard the heartbeat which the sonographer said was 'nice and fast' although didn't give me the actual speed. Feel much, much happier and relaxed now. Got three pictures but it literally looks ike a blob!

bmi Hope Isobel gets over it quickly - James had an awful cough for around a week and was absolute hell - neither of the 'traditional' remedies of steam or cold air seemed to help and he just couldn't stop (and would vomit several times before going limp from the utter exhaustion from coughing). Took him to the Dr three times and three times they didn't seem to think it was anything much Hmm Such a blooming worry when they're poorly - and Shock at waiting that long to be seen with a baby!

Does anyone else have an amazing headbutting baby? James headbutts EVERYTHING. Will start quite softly to check how hard the thing is before either really going for it (if it's soft) or tapping repeatedly quite softly (if it's hard). He's also taken to hitting his head and face hard if he's angry. I was saying to DP the other day how shocking it is that such violence in him has to be inherent as he's never even so much as had his hand tapped so it can't be learnt behaviour.

slimmingsarahandco · 29/01/2011 17:03

glad to hear all well manda x fab news

BusyMissIzzy · 29/01/2011 18:06

Lovely news Manda, see I told you it would be fine :) That first glimpse, and the teeny heart pulsing away.. ooh I'm coming over all broody. Re: the headbutting, we don't have that here but I'm sure I've hear it's common behaviour and not anything to worry about. Isobel does have some violent tendencies though; she enjoys repeatedly hitting my face at the moment Hmm

Isobel is better today, although she was worse last night after getting back from the hospital (woke up twice, barking cough, wheezing, tears, snot, drool and very upset). We didn't sleep much but she's perked up a bit today. Seems to have a cold now though. Much snuffling and snotting. DH read online that the croupy cough can be worse at night though, so we'll see how tonight goes.

PacificDogwood · 29/01/2011 19:19

Expecially for BMI and Isobel

manda DD does some sort of violence thing,if i am not paying attention to her,she just pinches me on my arm, i have never ever laid a finger on her, her dad sometimes gets smacked in the face ,however she is careful with his bald head, she always pats his head softly, which is funny.

BMI 3.5 hrs to see a doc, even in poor Zimbabwe DD was seen within 10 minutes of us getting to the emergency clinic, what if it was something serious? how do things work out then? agh,,still its good to know that its nothing serious,

MummyElk · 30/01/2011 12:18

happy sunday all - have been lurking but never quite got round to posting!
bmi sorry to hear of croup, both me and my brother had it when diddly and is quite nasty. hope she recovers soon.
manda glad you and bean well, exciting! as the owner of a particularly heavy period right now, I have to say Envy at being pg!! Smile
smac - bmi is quite right - we LOVE the tshirt....Grin if I had ANY money after the week of Awfulness that is Cars, i would order one Right Now. Elk might have to do with a homemade one instead....

well apart from money worries, we are all ok in the Elk household. I wouldn't mind a little bit of good luck though, we have had a particularly bad run of it recently. Thea is quite lovely though. We are still on Many Milk Feeds in the Day, despite me being back at work in two weeks time... i think she will be fine sans boob for those two days a week but any advice gratefully received on how to/whether to start reducing her feeds. (she just gets really quite arsey insistant when she's with me - when she's not she just seems to cope)

right i've written more than i intended anyway - sorry to bore!!
to everyone I haven't mentioned, have probably missed something epic, for which i apologise

MummyElk · 30/01/2011 12:20

oh and one of you is now my FB friend (nice to see you) initials JA..... any takers??

Arcadie · 30/01/2011 16:11

Yeah - I saw loads of people have befriended "JA" who tis???

OP posts:
BusyMissIzzy · 30/01/2011 16:36

JA seems to be the founder of www.motherswhowork.co.uk. I don't think she's one of us, but I could be wrong.

bmi do you think JA has just trawled fbk and found us then?? that's bizarre.... i might have to do some more digging then...
oh, and pixie we aren't TTC!! Grin but thanks for the good luck!! I would LOVE to, but am leaving it until i realise i can't bear being back at work at least for the time being...
i am gross this evening. Haven't got around to a shower, have cleaned various dark recesses of the kitchen, have greasy hair, I've been coughing so hard I've not only put my pelvic floor to the test (again Hmm) but I sound like an old tramp...but I've made amazing macaroni cheese so am at least partly a good wife
Yours, gorgeously...
Melk

IWCAS It appears JA doesn't want to be my friend either :(

PacificDogwood · 30/01/2011 21:17

Hallo, all, , Melk, do you want to be my cough buddy?? I have been coughing to the point of tears streaming down my face and weeing myself retching for almost 2 weeks. Before I asked one of my colleagues to have a listen. Which she kindly did. And then kindly suggested I should take some ABs (so I can remain fit to be at work Hmm). I cannot believe the difference 2 days' worth of ABs have made! I don't get 'chesty' - ever ! Anyway, I do feel a bit like the poster whose NN is 'PelvicFloorNoMore' or similar Blush.

Pixie, I am shocked that you are more than 16 weeks gone now - wow! Glad to hear you are feeling ok and hope your DD's tests at GOSH will turn out ok.

BMI, croup is the pits, I hope you and Isobel have had a better night in the meantime. IME nights 1 and 2 are usually the worst and things then calm down. And yes, they are always reasonably ok during the day, lulling you into a false sense of security to then proceed to sound like they are going to gasp their last any time after you have gone to bed. Sigh. DS2's first and 2nd winters were horrible and at times quite scary.
I also had croup as a child and I hate to tell you, I had it repeatedly until I was old enough to remember - at least 8 or so (we moved a lot when I was little and can remember the house we were in when I last had it).
Children do grow out of it, it is simply an airway size issue, but that does not make it any less horrible at the time.

Hello to all the rare posters, Manda, Flip et al - glad to hear you are doing ok. And have exciting plans in the pipeline Smile.

DH is currently in with Joe who is screaming++ Sad. He was not put down for an afternoon sleep today (I was out) and I think we are now being punished for that. Poor guy - he was so so tired when I put him today over 1 hour ago and went to sleep, but is now a bit hysterical.

Hope you all had a good weekend. Sorry to everybody I missed - I have one again not done the clever reading-back-with-several-windows-open thing.

Smile
