Happy Christmas MMMs. This is my gift to you!

Pingpong · 18/01/2011 21:30

evening ladies.
I chucked my pee sticks about 4 weeks ago when I was having a declutter. I am a hoarder so would happily keep everything and I do but our house was bursting at the seams so I randomly chucked stuff out from my bedside chest. It won't be long before DD2 is opening everything in sight reach and I thought better just to get rid.
Well done you clever ladies on the acronym I had thought of Get Rid Of Mummy Tummy but yes My tummy fits too. I did like all of the suggestions though Smile
I have cut out chocolate from my diet. I am not dieting as such but just trying to eat sensibly instead of constantly cramming chocolate down my mouth and I've got a week's free trial at Curves (ladies gym franchise that claims that 3 x 30 minutes sessions a week will make a difference!) As DH works a rolling shift pattern I can't commit to regular sessions at a fixed time eg zumba or pilates classes so I reckon there is a small chance I could get there 2 or 3 times a week. It is also very close to the house and no parking issues like the gyms in town. I had a trial session on Monday, today has been hectic so I couldn't make it but I will go again tomorrow I promise.
I do dog walking so my legs aren't too bad I just have a massive roll of mummy tummy fat which really needs to go and no amount of humping round 23lb 6oz of baby in the sling is going to shift that roll . I also don't really have the space or motivation to do excercise DVDs at home. I have done in the past (pre husband, pre baby but can't see that happening now)
Anyway enough waffle about Operation GROMT
Evitas what an emotional day for you. I tried to post earlier but lost it and had to go out. I had an ectopic pregnany before I had DD1 and I'm sure Pacific will correct me if I am wrong but there is a very, very small risk with the coil that the fertilised egg can get lodged in the tubes. I really don't want to worry you but if you are feeling pregnant and your period doesn't show up when expected then bear this in mind and take good care of yourself. IWCAS my friend had a coil baby Grin
pixie I am so pleased you are getting DD2 home. I still don't know how you manage with all your brood I really don't and being pregnant.
scooby enjoy Mexico I am very Envy I would love a sunshine holiday.
afri lovely to see you again.

Shroomer · 19/01/2011 07:08

So Pacific, did you put your preg test sticks right at the front of your baby memories book or relatives to marvel over? Smile

I've just done a test myself. It's about a week too early to test, but I have a batch of cheap tests from the web, and can't help myself. I had a positive LH surge test last week, so may have finally ovulated. Fingers crossed.

evitas · 19/01/2011 09:43

Shroomer OMG! :) Fingers crossed

Pixie Thinking of you and your DD today!

Get Rid of My Tummy... gosh, I've been trying to cut on bread, pasta, rice and sugar... but to be honest I haven't been very successful - at least I'm not seeing any results. I definitely should try brisk walking.
I dropped DS at the CM this morning, but she lives 5 minutes away from us... so not much exercise. Smac I've heard Curves can help and give good results.

I think I'll pick up DS from the CM around 4pm, I don't think I can wait till 5 :)
He has been waking up at 6am... that's too early for me, and I'm not used to it. This means that our routine has completely changed, or shall I say we don't have a routine at the moment. Hope the CM can fix him

Ok, back to work
waves to everyone

Arcadie · 19/01/2011 14:17

Afternooon all,

Just returned from taking Simeon to his first ever big scream. We saw 127 hours. It was good. However he thoroughly lived up to the title of teh cinema slot and basically screamed the whole way through. at a cost of £6 I don't think we'll do it again.

And the guy drinks wee and chops his arm off.

Shock Spoil the ending why don't you Arcadie Grin

Fingers crossed Shroomer, keep us posted.

Pixie thinking of you today, hope DD2 is glad to be back home.

We sort of tried a half-assed attempt at sleep training here last night. Got Isobel to settle in her own bed for the first time at night. It took a while, she was quite upset/frustrated at some points, but she slept from 11pm till 7.45am! So we'll try again tonight. I'd like opinions on one thing though; if she's used to going to bed late (9.30-10.30pm), should we stick to putting her down at that sort of time, then shift it earlier once she's got the self-settling thing down? Or should we just start doing the sleep training at 7pmish from the off?

Sariska · 19/01/2011 15:45

I'd start from her usual bedtime, BMI. Once you have her self-settling you can try making bedtime 10 or 15 mins earlier each night until you get where you want to be.

PacificDogwood · 19/01/2011 18:56

What Sariska said IMO - far less traumatic for all concerned Smile.

Back later hopefully.

PacificDogwood · 19/01/2011 21:13

We might be going skiing!

Anybody wish to share a recommendation with me?? Any fanatical skiiers on this thread??

The downside is of course, that I will now have to get fit, lose 3 st and develop some toned, strong legs Hmm... like that's gonna happen!

But still GrinGrinGrin

Pingpong · 19/01/2011 22:14

I think bluey is your girl.
I know nothing about skiing but have fun Grin

have a great day all :)

Sariska · 20/01/2011 09:26

Also not a skier, although did once go to Toggenburg in the Swiss Alps. I think I was the only non- German / Swiss person in the place (was with some German friends), which should have been useful in furthering my German were it not for the fact that (1) I had real trouble understanding the Swiss accent and (2) everyone (like Pacific) spoke excellent English and immediately launched into it when they heard my stumbling efforts. Anyway, it was a nice resort, with the après ski consisting mostly of tobogganing down mountainsides after fondue and an ill-advised amount of schnapps beer and schnapps with food rather than clubbing

Sariska · 20/01/2011 09:32

Pressed post too soon.

Liked the tales of wee-engrained pregnancy tests stashed in drawers and cupboards. I kept mine until recently too. And now, like Sarah, I am sticking my fingers in my ears and saying lalala when talk of new pregnancies arises. I was so sure I only wanted two, so current bromeliads must just be a hormonal phase, right? But, Shroomer, any news????

Sariska · 20/01/2011 09:34

Bromeliads? Is that even a word?

(Have not yet turned predictive text off on iPhone....)

Sariska · 20/01/2011 09:42

Hmmm, I thought they were ferns but it seems they are " a family of monocot flowering plants of around 3,170 species native mainly to the tropical Americas". Might include pineapples, I think, so could be of interest to the pg amongst us Grin.

As you were.

evitas · 20/01/2011 09:46

PD skiing - how exciting. I'm sorry but I'm rubbish at winter sports - definitely I'm Mediterranean :)

Sarah :) @the weight lost! 30 kids for a party?! You definitely like big parties!! Were do you get all the energy to handle so many things?! Hope DS gets better

BMI good news on the sleep front :). I agree with sariska - keep the same bed time for now and then start adjusting it

Pixie hope everything went well with DD2

Daryl congratulations on the BF certificate! I'm sue you'll make a difference to many new mums :)

RKD I don't know why but my mum decided to take my grandmother to the cinema to watch that film and they both gave up and left in the middle of the film. So, if you've managed to stay the entire film with a screaming baby - well done you!! :)

DS is @ CM for the second full day, today. He seemed ok yesterday.

Waves to everyone
x

hecklephone · 20/01/2011 11:11

Lol at bromeliads sariska! WHY does the phone even suggest such random words?! Smile

at everyone else. RL still a bit too demanding for regular posting. Moving baby + attention seeking 4yo + money woes = stressed heckle Sad

evitas · 20/01/2011 12:03

heckle sorry to hear about RL being stressful. Hope things will improve soon. :)

Arcadie · 20/01/2011 16:05

Really, is there anyone out there wanting to see 127hours who didn't know it was about a guy who cuts his own arm off? Really??? Shock

rkd am glad you watched it for me, i like the bloke and all but was a bit worried it might be too harrowing....do you actually see him cut his arm off? Is it horrid? not sure i could watch it...(thoughts after this include: but what about the bit of arm left behind? is it still there? have animals eaten it? Is it just a little bone stuck out of the rock? Does he feel sad about leaving part of him behind? Was he wearing a nice watch? Hmm)
pixie poor DD2 - being in hospital is institutionalising for anyone, i'm sure it must be hard for her Sad how is she now?
pd excited about skiing! Can't even remember what your questions were....? but you will have much much fun i'm sure...
sariska made me LARRRFFF re bromeliads (learn a new thing every day emoticon)

Thanks all for nice texts and fbkness about my lack of sleep. I'm not sure I can tell you whether we are any closer to an answer or not. it's quite simply baffling. we basically are spending every night between 1 and 4 juggling DD2 who is boob-obsessed/unsettled/angry?/unwilling to be left... and a DD1 who is woken by her very loud sister. I think it might be canine teeth cropping through. but i'm not sure. Advice welcome. Perhaps i should start a thread.Hmm(it's not very interesting) anyway.
Speaking of DD2, she is still very much a milk fed baby. I'm not sure what to do about it really. would a tongue tie stop her eating food? she's really not too bothered. literally i'm lucky if we get three spoons of food down her....
we have her 8/12mth check tomorrow so if i can be bothered (and i have a decent HV) i might ask them.

heckle hope things get better soon for you - i hear you on money worries. not fun Smile. particularly if you think of it in the early hours. i get vvvvv anxious at that point!! Smile

right. off to be nice to DH.

BlueyDragon · 20/01/2011 23:14

Mmmmmmmm, skiing, Pacific, count me in! Tickets arrived today for our France trip on 6 Feb so am v excited. Just got a birthday party to sort first - Sarah, it's only for 20, could you do it in your spare time? DD is v excited.

Big hugs to Melk and Heckle, RL sucks sometimes.

Pixie, hurrah that DD2 is home and I hope she has calmed down.

Sariska at your pineapples.

Alex is poorly again, vomitting at nursery but fine at home. Weird. Trying to keep sane is definitely hard in the face of it all. How the crazy ladies with more than 2 do it (I mean you, Sarah, Pixie and Pacific) I have no idea.

Must go to bed, knackered after monumental cake baking!

Dalrymps · 21/01/2011 08:55

Pixie - hope dd has settled down a bit now. So glad for you that she's home.

Melk - I think a tongue tie can interfere with eating but not always. Depends how severe, something to do with moving the food around the mouth. I think the best person to ask would be an SLT but hv might know/refer you on. It could just be she's not that interested yet? Dylan was like thatHmm. I she sittin ok? When did she start sitting? I ask because Dylan sat around 6-8 months but wasn't steady till around 10 months and the slt he saw said this can have an effect on eating as it's all to do with muscle tone and being able to chew etc... Does she eat finger foods or are you just trying with the spoon? Miles refuses to be spoon fed anything lately but he mostly eats Himself anyway, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. Anyway, I'm just babbling now, sorry if that's of no help whatsoever!

Thankyou everyone for the co gears on getting my certificate. It's not a big thing but very exciting for me as I don't feel I've use my brain for 3 years! The lactation consultant who helps run the course said some people have gone on from being buddies to doing their midwifery training, am super excited about this. I've wanted to be a midwife for at least 7 years now but don't want to train whilst the boys are so young.

Dalrymps · 21/01/2011 09:04

Co gears ?!?!! Congrats! Grin

Sorry for the random shout outs, am full of cold and just quickly popped in.

((hugs)) to heckle, hope life gets less stressful soon.

Evitas - Glad ds is doing ok at the childminders Smile

Pacific - skiing, how exciting! I much prefer the idea of hot toddies in a log cabin so would go 'skiing' just for that purpose alone! Only been skiing once myself and it was on a dry ski slope when I was about 8, was quite fun from what I remember but then I was young and fit then

evitas · 21/01/2011 16:59

DS' favourite programme atm is "Deal or no Deal". I hope it's because of all the clapping ... Hmm

Pixie Hope things are better today with your DD2

SiameseSnowCat · 21/01/2011 17:45

Back later. Have been sleep training and settling C at nursery. Yawn.
