Thanks! Now I can chuck davina away and just get on with eating. Phew.

Just in case PD's note doesn't work, dear RKD, it sounds a little like you might have shin splints (or at least, the beginnings of/old grumbling) which suggests whatever the flip it is Davina does is too high impact for you. Personally, I never exercise (I really ought to, if only for health benefits but..ugh, it's so... boring. I'm going to change that after this one arrives, I swear!) but ex-dh is a personal trainer (actually specializes in GP referrals now) and I absorbed a lot of exercise knowledge through some kind of, him constantly telling me stuff osmosis.

Low impact stuff is not really any good for fat burning, so you may have to try and incorporate BRISK walking into your daily routine if posible? FOr at least half an hour a day. You'll actually be surprised at the result it can yeild if you're sensibl with your diet (and by sensible, I don't mean only eating raw salad! But conversely, no choccie in abundance! Moderation is the key)

I'm probably telling you what you already know so...

siamese I know exactly how you feel as my cat (blue british shorthair) has been peeing since James' arrival. On DS1's bed, of all places. I replaced his mattress recently because of it and she's done it twice since . The vet advised it's behavioural now (after treating with antibioics incase it was an infection). She simply has to go, not least because I'm pregnant again it's just too difficult to cope with. And clearly she's stressed/not happy. It's Sad.

donttrythisathome · 16/01/2011 11:35

DD woke again twice last night. She obviously saw my post and said ha ha I'll get ya!! Still twice is not bad at all at all.

Manda I'm with you on the non-exercising and totally advocate brisk walking to the fridge to scoff anything in sight

Thinking again recently of whether to have another baby. DH doesn't want one but that's besides the point Grin
On the one hand DD is more than enough for me and I would feel guilty about imposing a sibling on her. And it would be really hard and I might crack up and go completely dolally and DH and me would split up. On the other hand I think DD might be lonely. I am the youngest by far in my family so haven't experienced having close siblings growing up (the next to me was 8 years older) so no experience in this really.

evitas · 16/01/2011 14:41

I've just booked a flight to Fuerteventura :) (to be honest it was the only warm place, relatively close, with a direct flight from Edinburgh on a Saturday in March).

IWCAS Shock @ HV and babies not sleeping. Now I'm curious about what mine HV will say next month.
By the way DS was awake 1.5h during the night Confused just chatting and screeching. I'm trying to stop feeding him during the night but I've been miserably failing.

PD hope you'll have a nice day

BMI good work with Isobel's fringe! :) (to be honest when I first read your post I read "I've just cut Isobel's finger " Blush )

Sariska how's your DD? Any more vomiting? DS vomits when he coughs, and he coughs most of the time when he's crying. Good luck for the next sessions @nursery.

Siamese I'm dreaming about mushroom risotto. But it's one of those dishes that I never get it right Hmm the rice is always either too hard or to soft. Did you follow any special recipe?

Scooby enjoy your holiday!

Manda thanks for the exercise tips :)

Donttry we also had 2 waking last night...

Fliss :) @ your "Operation Titchmarsh". I used to watch all his programmes, in fact I've learned a lot with him. But now I don't remember almost anything... Although I'm a Landscape Architect I just know theory and more theory, and I really miss practice :(

Ok DH needs my help to buy flight tickets for his parents to visit us next month...
Waves to everyone else I missed.
x

MandaHugNKiss · 16/01/2011 15:33

Enjoy Fuerteventura, evitas - I went there yearrrrrrs ago, um, probably 15years ago, when it was very 'new' to tourists. As I understand it, though, it's still pretty quiet and civilised compared to its sister islands (which I also visited in my youth proper. In fact tenerife was my very first trip abroad aged 16 with family, then again as my first 'girls only' holiday aged 18 and gran canaria my first 'boyfriend and girlfriend' holiday at 19). I'm cravin some sun now, even though I don't fancy putting my wobbly bits in a bikini Grin What was it I said? Ah, yes, brisk walking... One of these days, I'm gonna DO it!

Well, I'm 6+1 by lmp and 5+4 by O date... still no symptoms in sight. Unless you count a dream I had last night that it was twins with a query on a tripet Shock I would literally die, I think. Please don't let it be a premonition! pixie you didn't dream of twins before finding out, did you?

Incidently, I think I need to defend myself from the flashback! When I read it, I thought 'God, I sound mental - did I really consider wearing a wrap dress to give birth in?!' and then I remembered that someone else had spotted a wrap dress especially for labour/birth and that started me musing. I don't think I was ever seriously contemplating it... and I definitely didn't come up with the bonkers idea! Grin

Gotta get ready to go to the DPils for sunday dinner (Yum!), will be the first time I've seen them since DP told them about the pregnancy... I'm expectin the fact we have No Room will be bought up... (and it's true we're already overcrowded - plans afoot to do something about it, but not able to actually do them yet). Shall I spout a cheesy line something like 'so long as there's room in our hearts, there's always room for another child and anyway the hall cupboard is quite big--'? Heh.

Arcadie · 16/01/2011 16:16

Manda I fear you may be right - I've got some speshy exercises to do to warm up the shins. I don't enjoy jogging and Davina but I do enjoy not being the size of a house...... She does get results. :(

And Blush missed it but Happy Birthday SlimmingSarah !

Hey everyone, appologies for the me me me post.. just popping in as I'm a bit worried and stressed - sorry!

After the stress I had with Dylans weight I swore I wouldn't get Miles constantly weighed. I got him weighed in the beginning up untill he was 19 weeks to make sure he was off to a good start and then I haven't taken him since.

I have tried to look at him as a baby rather than obsess over the centile chart and I have weighed him occasionally with me on the bathroom scales to get a rough idea of where he's at.

Anyway, I haven't weighed him for a while and felt his weight gain may be slowing down so I weighed him tonight. He weighs 14.8lb/6.7 kg and is 10 months old. I checked his chart and this puts him on the bottom line. (where Dylan is to this day!). He started off on the 25th centile line and seems to have gradually dropped to the bottom.

I am so so confused by this, he eats loads of food and will try anything I put in front of him. He also breastfeeds quite a bit still and up until recently could be known to feed up to 5 times a night!

If I didn't know what he weighed I would think he was fine albeit small.

I just don't know what to think or do? He is the opposite tto Dylan with his eating but weight wise the same.

I kinda think it's just how I make em' but worry the health visitor won't see it that way at his year check

Sariska · 17/01/2011 09:14

I understand why you worry, Dalrymps. My two are also pretty much on the bottom of the centile charts weight-wise. I've dealt with it by satisfying myself that input and output (IYWIM!) is OK, clothes are grown out of and that they are generally healthy. DD hasn't seen the HV since she was 6 wo and I'm about to cancel her 10mo check up as she'll be in nursery at the appointed time.

Honestly, if you're happy and they're happy, why worry? .

No, no more vomiting, evitas. Thankfully. Potty training is enough for me.

Oh, re potty training: how long do you give it before you say enough's enough, we'll try again later?

Dalrymps · 17/01/2011 09:21

Thanks Sariska, he is getting longer slowly as has outgrown trousers but has a small waist like ds1..

I do think he's perfectly happy and I am happy with him but worry the hv's will get on my back like last timeSad

Dylans dietician had him on high cal formula which made him sick and even less interested in food than he was. Also had him on high cal powder that made him consipated and disinterested in food. I don't want that for Miles and tbh doubt he'd take a bottle anyway.

If I didn't weigh him I'd think he was fine because as I say his interest in food is great, I've yet to put anything in front of him that he won't eat! He poos every day and gas several wet nappies. I don't really get it, lots goes in and comes out but he grows so slowly like Dylan?!

evitas · 17/01/2011 10:27

Dalrymps it's always a worry, isn't it? But if he's eating well, if he looks healthy then try not to worry too much.
Having said that, I'll have DS' weight checked in 3 weeks time, just because I know he lost weight. Although I'm almost sure it's because he's much more active now, I'm slightly worried that he's not drinking enough milk. I just want to have a chat with the HV to see what she thinks.
And regarding the charts: well, they try to represent the population... I mean not all the babies have to big and on the 98th centile :) some are smaller, like all adults.

Dalrymps · 17/01/2011 10:36

Thanks evitasSmile yeah I know someone has to be at the bottom of the chart just like someone has to be at the top!

The reason I'm worrying think is that the hv said with Dylan that because he had dropped 2 centiles they'd have to refer him to the paediatrician and dietician... Well, from what I can tell Miles has dropped 3 centiles over 10 months...

He was quite ill with a virus and fever in dec and I think he lost some weight then. Maybe it's just a mixture of that and becoming more active, he's on the brink of crawling and very lively.

MummyElk · 17/01/2011 11:25

morning all
dairy i feel your pain, dd1 is dropping off her chart despite my every effort to get her to eat anything! I think illness can have quite an effect on smaller children (definitely in dd1's case anyway) and also, 9-12 months is a funny time for them - they go from being inactive bundles watching everyone to actually being ABLE to get there themselves...and burning off a LOT of calories with it (if you've ever actually tried commando crawling Blush it's pretty hard work....Hmm) . I've seen thea's Thighs Of Wonder become a shadow of what they were....Sad
As ever with these things - how do YOU feel he's doing? Ignore the shadow of what the HV might think/do - what do YOU think??
The only other thing i'd say is, i've spoken to my friend who is a paed and she says that the only reason they worry is because if anaemia/illness etc - and that what they generally do with underweight children is literally fatten them up - so make porridge with cream instead of milk, things like that. (I am trying this with DD1....[mixed results emoticon]Hmm) So they aren't going to come after you with pitchforks shouting "bad parent!! bad parent!!" Grin I would think most health professionals know that every child is different (even if they need it shouted in their face every now and then)
right i have to crack on but hello everyone else

Dalrymps · 17/01/2011 12:56

Thanks Melk, I've learnt to live with how Dylan is and thankfully he seems to eat enough to survive!

It's just so frustrating when I'm trying to do everything right and it makes no difference!

IMO there is nothing wrong with Miles, he is happy and lively and eats well. I'm gonna concentrate on giving him more opportunities to eat and follow the same dietary advice the dietician gave me for Dylan and see if that helps a bit. he's never going to be massive but I can hopefully stop him dropping down the chart any more...

PacificDogwood · 17/01/2011 14:24

Happy birthday belatedly, sarah, hope you had nice cake, slimming or not slimming!!

Hi, Dalrymps, I don't have much to add to the Eminent Good Sense being spoken on this thread .
It seems to me the 2 key things you are writing are that he eats lots/varied things and he has energy - between those it is v unlikely to be anything much wrong with him. Also do you know how long/tall he is? If he is on the 0.4 centile for height and weight then he is simply small but perfectly formed Smile.
FWIW, DS3 is now 2.10 yrs and still wears 12-18 months trousers - they are a tiny bit short but certainly fit perfectly at the waist (hey ho, potty training and all that, beggers can't be chosers Grin).
Which brings me neatly to all things output related (nice one, Melk): Sariska, I keep going as long as I feel the 'trainee' is having fun and is excited about the whole thing. With DS1 we had a go when he was about 2 1/2 yrs and gave up after a couple of weeks because it was v apparent he did not have a clue what we wanted of him.
Here DS3 is a bit obsessed with toilet paper, flushing the toiled, taking about toilet, sitting on the potty every 5 min . We've been going for 2 weeks, he is dry most days, reliably wets himself during his afternoon nap (well, 3 hours IS a long time Hmm) and has a nappy on during the night.

DS1 and 2 are walking home from school on their own today for the first time - let's hope they'll arrive safely before I start sweating. Although yesterday their behaviour was sooooo appalling Sad, I might be tempted to not let them in... - we had to abort a trip out to their favorite skate park because of fighting/name calling/back chatting/general ASBO worthy behaviour, grrrr!

Anyhoo, sunny here today, we made it to the toddler group and back, DS3 in bed (weeing himself no doubt!), Joe chatting in his high chair Smile.

Laters!

Dalrymps · 17/01/2011 16:15

Thanks for the advice PD I really appreciate it. Just checked his book, looks like his length hadn't been measuredHmm Anyway, I measured him as best I can and his length is on the 9th centile, also just like Dylan. They are both 2 centiles higher for length than they are for weight. I know from experience that ideally the centiles will match but the paed came to the co clusion with Dylan that was just him so maybe that's just Miles too..

Dalrymps · 17/01/2011 16:18

conclusion

Pingpong · 18/01/2011 00:25

I've been lurking but I should be doing accounts and tax stuff . I go between getting highly stressed about it all and then because I have no will power I end up back on here or FB just for a nosey!
Sorry to hear about your weight concerns Dalrymps I don't have anything useful to add apart from agreeing that babies come in all shapes and sizes and to get a chart someone has to be top and someone bottom. Mine remains a whopper and that too has it's own set of concerns. If he's growing and happy and eating and drinking and pooing and peeing then I think he sounds just fine.
Siamese I meant to say before how sorry I was to hear about Monty's antics. And manda too with the upset cat. Again nothing useful to add as I'm a dog lover but still I sympathise and realise it must be a really hard decision to consider rehoming.
Can't remember all the other stuff I was going to say but
Anyway as I can't remember be arsed to scroll back and do the shout outs I meant to do I would just like to announce the start of Operation GROMT chez Smac

Night night off to bed for me.

squiggleywiggler · 18/01/2011 08:25

Get Rid Of My Tummy?

I might have instigated one of those myself Smac so had a feeling that's what it is. Apologies if its

Get Raunchy On Monday/Tuesday

or

Glow Red On My Tongue

Life has been manic here - trying to slow down a bit as we were all getting a bit miserable.

To that end am not going to try and do a catch up post but promise to check in when I can.

evitas · 18/01/2011 09:31

Can I tell you something?
My boobs are killing me and I was so sick yesterday evening and this morning... could I be pregnant? Confused I have the coil, so in theory I'm not, but... my period is due this Thursday/Friday, so I'm not late. Could someone please tell me I'm just being paranoid!

SiameseSnowCat · 18/01/2011 10:24

Evitas you are pregnant paranoid.

Please test and report back!!

It's a bit fertile in here isn't it?

;)

evitas · 18/01/2011 11:57

Siamese I've asked DH to buy me a test. I'll do it later

Thanks for the reassurance Smac..

I vote for Get Rid Of My Tummy too, oy because I desperately need to do that myself. Look about 4 months pregnant!

Evitas- eek exciting, would it be good news? Fingers crossed for the result you want x

donttrythisathome · 18/01/2011 12:39

GRO mushy turnips?

Evitas also hope it is good news, whatever that may be!

DD has sort of slept through the night for 2 nights now (woke a coupe of time before 12 last night with wind but don't mind that). Could it be the new world order??!

O know what you mean about manic and miserable squiggley tis hard to slow down though.
