Shiny new thread for Christmas!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Becaroooo · 17/03/2011 13:14

Thanks debs Mum went for some fasting bloods today and has to go to the hospital to see a cardiologist - probably be next week now.

ninja You sound really sensible and calm about the situation.

Am looking into becoming a school speaker volunteer for the British Red Cross. I cant afford to give them as much as I used to so I thought I could donate my time instead and I love working with kids.

Kagey · 17/03/2011 14:05

Happy St Patrick's day Shamrock.

Sorry to hear about you and your H Ninja and hope your Mum is ok Bec.

Hopefully best of luck with getting a sooner slot, and DG, I hope your appointment next week goes well.

Meglet · 17/03/2011 20:22

bookmarking.

Meglet · 17/03/2011 22:03

It's official, my daughter can no longer be contained - help! She can vault her cot bars in seconds, even in a gro-bag. TBH I'm starting to wonder if she'll climb the stairgate once it's up Confused.

Really sorry to hear what you are going through ninja Sad.

All the best for your appointment dg. Whatever I say won't make a difference but I will be thinking of you and crossing my fingers that the doctors can get to the bottom of it.

Hope your mum is doing ok becaroo. What would speaking in schools involve? Telling the children about developing countries and disasters?

Has anyone else been trying to explain the situation in Japan to their DC's? I was sort of doing ok with the earthquake and gave DS a brief, as un-scary as possible, explanation of the tsunami but came unstuck trying to explain nuclear power. I hope to God it settles down soon, poor Japan Sad.

Becaroooo · 17/03/2011 22:43

meg Basically it would involve telling the children about the Red Cross and what it does....lots of people dont know that the Red Cross does a lot of work in the community (wheelchair/crutch hire for instance) not just overseas.

Have donated to the RC appeal for Japan...its awful isnt it? I cant bear to watch the news atm. Anyone else donate to comic relief but not watch it????? I just get so upset (I am such a wuss) I donate online and rent a film or something instead.....Sad

ds1 is going to school in his PJs tomorrow for CR...the whole school are doing it but ds1 gets a bit anxious when things arent "normal"...hope he will be ok...

DebiTheScot · 18/03/2011 11:57

Quick catchup. Haven't had time to read properly the last few days.

ninja hope you can sort things out amicably (sp?) feel free to rant about it to us if it helps.

bec hope your mum is ok soon. And you too.

digi hope things are as ok as they can be for you too.

My ds1 has gone to school in his pjs too, they were told to wear red and/or do something funny so he decided on his red pjs.
I put my hair in pigtails and ds2 was in hysterics laughing and telling me that I looked like a girl!

We've just had a fire alarm at school. There's a lot of kids dressed up and it looked very odd watching them all come out. I saw a year 11 boy in a skintight shiny purple lycra bodysuit/babygro type thing. Not a sight I wish to see again!
And now all the kids who sprayed their hair red have red dye running down their faces as it was raining. heehee.

DH's birthday today and we've got visitors for the weekend so it'll be a busy one.

Meglet · 18/03/2011 13:02

LOL at debis wet schoolkids Grin. 'Yuck' to a fire alarm on a wet day!

I shouldn't be on here. I need to fit that damn stairgate up in DD's room. Or at least make the markings on the door frame and read the drill instructions..........

Becaroooo · 18/03/2011 14:23

meg ooohh I love drilling. And hammering. I am pretty handy with a mallet dont you know!

sigh. Well, mum is on her way to A&E. She had chest pains last night again and they want to check her out. She is ok...but worried obviously. I just hope all this makes her stop smoking Sad

On a happier note, my dbro just rang and my SIL is expecting! Mum is praying for a girl but denying it Grin

CappuccinoCarrie · 19/03/2011 21:51

Hows the DIY going?

How are you ninja?

debi loving the 'you look like a girl' comment!

bec any news on your mum? Hope she's recoving ok, how are you doing with it all? Great news about your Dbro and SIL. My Dbro's first child is due in a month, very exciting, my first nephew and the DCs first cousin!

Just taken DH to the station to get the train to the airport as he flies to Mexico first thing tomorrow with work :( Yet again I've cried enough to fill a swimming pool or two. Need to go to bed so I've got the energy for the morning get up - that's normally his job! Gonna have the puffiest eyes ever :( Blush

Becaroooo · 19/03/2011 21:59

carrie oh poor you Sad You coped so well last time though x

Mum is ok. They now think its the muscles in her chest wall...she is talking about stripping the wallpaper in the hall tomorrow so she must be feeling better!

Am dreading dh starting his new role in 3 months time....lots of travel Sad

CappuccinoCarrie · 20/03/2011 16:35

Somebody please make me feel better...the DCs have watched Cbeebies all afternoon Confused. I have a headache and have been trying to doze on the sofa. We've not done playdoh, painting, been to the park, nothing....someone tell me you've done the same and this is ok please!!

OP posts:
Debs75 · 20/03/2011 18:28

welcome to normality CarrieGrin
don't worry things will get better and it is only a few days. We have been in most of the day watching nickjr as it is too cold to play in the garden. Plus Robyn is shattered after a late party for friends 1 yr old testerday. We didn't leave till nearly 10 although Robyn would of happily gone home at 8. I wamted to see birthday girl open her pressies.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 20/03/2011 19:28

Don't beat yourself up carrie. Once they're tucked up in bed, have a glass of wine and some chocolate - you deserve it.

Glad to hear your mum is ok Bec Smile

Quite a boring weekend here really, but it's the calm before the storm as next weekend I'm the treasurer for our NCT Nearly New Sale - a role I've never done before and I'm doing it when 36 weeks pg. I thought it was a good idea at the time Hmm

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 20/03/2011 20:12

Carrie don't worry - we all have days like that and I always feel guilty. They tend to be at weekends though and I tell myself that DD's busy during the week at nursery etc and so once she goes to school she'll have similar routines - ie weekends can sometimes be a bit slower and lazier.
We went to my niece's 4th birthday party today and it wasn't until 2. My ambition of getting DD to the park at 10.30 for fresh air came to nowt and she in her pjs still at 11am!

I have my first midwife appt tomorrow. Eeek! Only 5+5 here, so quite early. Am going to see her face turn white when I ask for a homebirth. Have found a local doula that has supported a HBAC though.

CappuccinoCarrie · 20/03/2011 20:18

I've had the glass of wine, I've had the chocolate, and I made myself a dinner that Dr Atkins would be proud of Blush. Going for an epically early night now, its only 8:15 but this killer headache I've had all day just won't shift.
Thank you for your lovely encouragement everyone, you really are brilliant :)

mrsa lucky you getting in early at the mw, you should get a reasonably early scan which is great - I had a massive bump before I finally got a scan at nearly 16 weeks!

ILTMIMI you'll be great as treasurer, it involves sitting down all afternoon right....?!!

I wonder how kagey and hopefully are getting on, they must be about to pop too?

OP posts:
Kagey · 20/03/2011 20:57

Carrie no popping for me yet although it is my due date today Shock. I'm in no hurry as my Mum is on holiday until Wednesday so baby can happily stay put until then only. Cbeebies is definitely my new best friend even if I have no headache after a full day of toddler activities. I hope the early night does you good!

I hope your midwife appointment goes well tomorrow MrsA.

I'll keep you ladies updated over the next couple of weeks. E was 12 days late, and my personal feeling is that the baby will not make an appearance until next weekend .

Becaroooo · 20/03/2011 21:10

kagey good luck! Smile x

carrie We have those sorts of days too...ds1 is so tired now from school that dh and I are like
"ok guys what are we going to do today??"
"can I just watch a dvd mummy?"
"er..ok then" Hmm

Weather here sunny but very cold so havent been playing outside.

Yesterday ds1 and dh went on a bike ride (whilst Toby had has nap) and this morning he took the boys to a model railway show but other than that we have done nothing except eat, play and sleep!

Meglet · 21/03/2011 10:52

catching up....

Debs75 · 21/03/2011 12:38

We are still recovering from the weekend here. went to friends babies 1st birthday on Saturday and as usual it went on really late. Last night she fell asleep at 6.30. We popped her in bed and then she was up at midnight and for a couple of hours not sure what she wanted.. She had a temp and was coughing so she sat with DP downstairs then got back in bed and pestered me to go downstairs. Dp finally got her to bed at 4am. We are all tired today but making the most of the sunshine.

MRSA hope you get the homebirth. I would of liked one but the diabetes put paid to that.

Come on Kagey and Hopefully hope babies come at a good time for you both

ninjinglebells · 21/03/2011 14:06

Hi again

I really must change my christmas name .....

Sorry I'm trying not to keep logged in just in case which means it takes longer before I post.

Things just the same which is better than usual, less contact with each other means less conflict which is good.

In some ways it doesn't seem real, in some ways it's almost exciting, but then I wake up with dread ....

Part of me still thinks we might be able to find a way of sorting it out because that would be best for the kids, but only if we really sort it out, the arguments definitely aren't best for them.

MrsA we probably should have split before we had kids Sad, but I'm glad we didn't as I wouldn't be without them.

Can't believe so many of you are ready to pop -

ninja · 21/03/2011 14:07

Just checking I've changed my name back

CappuccinoCarrie · 22/03/2011 09:22

to ninja. Do you have an Easter name up your sleeve? :)

OP posts:
DebiTheScot · 22/03/2011 14:30

catching up. Sure I should be doing something useful but I can't what so I won't do anything Grin

DS2 has had a very helpful development this week. Suddenly the "you won't get any ...... until you finish ......" works! He didn't quite get it before the other day and now it works a treat. Last night he ate all his mashed tatties (and without pulling horrible faces) for the 1st time ever with the promise of a yoghurt.

Have been party planning today, it's harder than I thought trying to plan a part for a 5 year old when just inviting everyone from his class isn't an option.

ninja · 22/03/2011 20:01

Maebh now says with her first course - 'I've eaten 1, 2, 3, mouthfuls my by self' and expects pudding to arrive Hmm

Never managed an easter name, any ideas?

Meglet · 22/03/2011 22:34

After a week of constant cot escapes DD is sleeping in her little bed tonight. In fact, I think she is on the floor after tantrumming for an hour... will go and check.............................. yes, she was asleep on the floor but I have moved her to the bed.

Life is so hectic at the moment, trying to get on top of the house with a mixture of de-junking and planning to decorate, somehow have a million errands to do all the time, just seen a job at a school I need to apply for a.s.a.p, and I have to do a fierce anti CSA charges letter to the DWP in the next few days. I hope DD stops messing around at bedtime within a few nights so things can settle down again.

MrsA You managed to potty train your DD quite quickly didn't you (IIRC). How fast did she do it? DD is ready so I hope we can get crack it over a long weekend in April Hmm. Nursery will be great though as they have dealt with potty training hundreds of times Smile.
