A starter for 10 on our Sept 2010 babies as their first Christmas comes nearer! Can't believe we're there already; I was barely pregnant last Xmas!

Wow today has been busy!!!

Just caught up but can't be bothered to go back and look remember who wrote what!

I bought a pushchair from eBay when pregnant with ds1 for £16! It was an m&p three wheeler and I still love it but Luke is mostly in my sling.

We don't have a routine but Luke cannot be awake for more than 2 hours at a time. I don't get him up in the morning, at a certain time but have to if it's a school day and he goes to bed between 6.30 and 8.

I have spent 2 1/2 hrs at St. Thomas' hospital with Luke as I have enrolled him in the EAT study. So lots of info on weaning and what I have been given from them supports that it is safe to wean from 17 weeks allergy wise and that they have actually just reverted to recommending weaning from 17 weeks in Australia as a new study has shown that if you wait until after 6 months there is an increased risk of coeliac disease. We have been put in the early weaning group and so I will be required to start weaning in the next two weeks. Part of me is excited as I loved feeding ds1 and am looking forward to sharing food with Luke but I was planning to wait a while longer and I am feeling quite sad about it! Dh doesn't want anymore babies and I know already that I would like another, starting weaning is him growing up and I want to keep him a baby a bit longer.

I think it only mentions bfing as ffing is already introducing cows milk so it's not as easy to make suggestions about introducing other foods and how they will affect allergies etc. As bfing is recommended by WHO that is what researchers use as a basic starting point wen designing their studies.

It's a fact of life that everyone has an opinion on how you should bring up your children whether they've had them or not!!!!

Also he weighs 7.26kg/15lb 15, length 66.1cm and head circ. 42.5 at 16w+1

saoirse86 · 04/01/2011 20:45

cinnamon I was weaned at a year and have coeliac disease!!!!

beaditAli · 04/01/2011 20:55

Saoirse I posted yesterday that Jack is 14 weeks and he's 15 Shock Must have totally blocked out the first 7 days! hee hee Smile

I'm amazed at all the day time sleeps! Envy I'm lucky if Jack does more than 2x 20 min naps during the day. If we're out it's longer but I think that the pram/car naps somehow don't equate to real sleep as he's always tired for bedtime by 8pm. He does sleep for 12 hours at night tho, with 2 feeds... one around 11pm and one at about 5-6am.

I've been reading so much re weaning too. DH was really badly asthmatic as a child even tho he was bf for 6 months. I'm really worried Jack will have the same problem as it runs thru the man's side of the family apparently. Have read somewhere that there's an equal risk of it before 4 months and if waiting til 6th month or longer so there's a window of opportunity but getting it bang on will be pretty difficult I guess.

beaditAli · 04/01/2011 21:02

Forgot to ask about baby vomiting. For the last week or so/since he was poorly Jack has been sick after every feed and a lot between feeds. He was never a sicky baby and he just seems to bring so much up. Only one projectile but others are around half an ounce I'd guess. Also, his poos have gone really, really runny. Nothing solid in them at all...... normal or no????
LOVE LOVE LOVE buying new buggies too! We got the M&Ps Sports Max 3 for £17 for long off roady walks which we do a lot and it's ACE! I do want a forward facing more shopping friendly one too tho!

sassy34264 · 04/01/2011 21:05

That's interesting saoirse. How about your sister?

DP is just back from the house, so i am off to Tesco to buy food and bowls. Wanted to do it last night but it was a bank hol.

saoirse86 · 04/01/2011 21:08

She has nothing sassy

cinnamongreyhound · 04/01/2011 21:12

Looks like a much newer version of mine beaditAli and I love it. I'd go and check it with HV to be honest as he hasn't been sicky before.

beaditAli · 04/01/2011 21:20

Yeah.... really think I should but they seem to say "they all do that" anytime I mention sick! Hmm

Already thinking of the drawing for Nelly!

beaditAli · 04/01/2011 22:12

Just been flicking thru google and am now convinced Jack has diarrhea as well as being really sicky between his feeds. Maybe he is still shaking off his bug.....? Anyone else heard of watering down formula whilst they have the runs??

MammyG · 04/01/2011 23:48

Was feeling a little down today and was even wondering if I would post but have been laughing away at all the nutty banter and visions of sassy et al in the naughty corner!

Beadit I wouldnt water the formula too much. Phoebe is still throwing up little bits too. Its all part of the silly bug

Debs/Banana Doctors here are exorbitant! We spend a fortune every year and as we are not well off at all often have to put our own health on hold or wait til we are sure the boys are sick before we bring them. A bad dose of cold can blow the household budget in a week!

Ugh to all the weaning! Just feel like this lovely baby part passes in a haze of adjusting to every new phase. Before you know it they are 6 months, in their own routines and feeding (all good BTW) but they are growing too fast! Esp as this is my last baby just want things to slow down a little. Get very sentimental when I see her with her big bro and remember just 4 years ago he was my baby!

Started a 2010 box for the kids to open when they are older. Have letters written to 2 of them just telling them what they were like this year etc Must do the last one tomorrow and putting in their drawings, photos, little clips. Am all caught up in it.

sassy34264 · 05/01/2011 00:25

Glad we made you feel better mammyg Wink why are you feeling down anyway? (if you don't mind me asking? Tell me to bugger off if you do!)

I had an eureka (sp?) moment today with DP. We are still having the same old arguement (although i am less tired these days, so it hasn't been as much of a problem) Cut a long story short, he has come back from house at 9pm for the last 2 nights. Got in to a discussion about it. He pointed out that he would rather be here than at the house doing jobs all day long. (but it's said like i have it easy Hmm ) I agreed that i would rather be here with babies than at the house doing jobs all day, every day, but that doesn't mean that it's not hard. His reply was along the lines of, if we;re both having it hard, why does he need to worry about me having it hard. (meaning we have it equal) I had a light bulb moment and said, well lets flip it around and have you at the house doing jobs all day long every day yes? He said yes. I then said and you can't leave or stop doing them jobs until i come and releave you. His face told me he finally saw it my way. I was rather smug and said something along the lines of that puts a different perspective on it, doesn't it? got a begrudging- yeah ok. Truimph was short lived. He still fell asleep and left me to deal with both babies!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He has 4 days. We move in on sunday. House isn't ready but we will just have to live in one room and get on with it, cos i have had enough.........

sassy34264 · 05/01/2011 00:28

relieve even!

cinnamongreyhound · 05/01/2011 08:14

Had an awful nights sleep! Kept waking up really hot and sweaty and having lots of strange weaning dreams! Having thought about it more I don't think it's the idea of weaning him early but that I'm not ready to start. He has very good head control and is into putting everything into his mouth (not that I'm suggesting that means he's ready) so I think he'll be ok with it. I worry that he won't take as much milk as he should as their introduction scheme runs over 5 weeks and you need to give all 6 foods by the end of that plus you have to start with rice/fruit/veg and by the end on several days you are giving 2 of these foods.

Right Luke has just woken up need to feed him before we leave for school. I'm sure I will have plenty of time to torture myself over the right thing to do over the next week!

clumsymumluckybaby · 05/01/2011 08:39

oh no cinnamon,im sorry you had such a rubbish night.i think im the samethe months are flying by and im just nowhere near ready for him to be weaning already!Shock

Arlo is very stuffed up atm,his nose is a constnt stream of snot,it's really awkward to for him to feed and sleep, poor mite.
we've been at home all day since monday, which is really not normal for us,sky's going a bit mental...think we'll have to brave the cold today Hmm

Dixiebell · 05/01/2011 08:51

Arlo #2 went to bed at 7.30 last night and didn't wake to feed until 5.30 this morning! Then went back down for another 2 hours. Loving this, may it keep up!

This last week or two Arlo has been a lot more vocal - mostly moany type noises, though! I think he gets frustrated bcs he's very much aware of toys etc around him but not able to grab them properly yet. He can just about hold on to things but can't do much with them once he has them. He also sucks his fingers/hands all the time now. Yesterday I was wandering round shops and he was in his carseat/pram staring at me and sucking his thumb, so sweet.

On weaning, I am also clueless, but bf is so easy, I think I'll want to put off the faff for as long as poss!

13 weeks + 2

Chelle1986 · 05/01/2011 11:30

This is definately tempting fate - but had great night.

Olly went down at 7:30pm and apart from stirring very briefly 3 times he slept until 06:30am....! Had a bottle at that point and a play for an hour or so and then snuggled in to mummy in bed and slept for another hour and 45 mins. Which proves he can do it! Lol. He is just having another quick nap now too.

I know it was prob a complete fluke and I will have night from hell again tonight but still...!

Was thinking before - what to you all do to "play" with your babies? We spend time playing with noisy toys and on the play mat. We pull funny faces and make funny noises and have cuddles when awake.

Sorry you had a bad night cinnamon - I'm sure you will feel better once you are underway?

Dont know what to do today - cant decided if I can be bothered getting up and going out or not....hmmm....

Olly - 14+3

sassy34264 · 05/01/2011 12:57

Oh cinnamon Sad I think you probably need to try to reconcile yourself to it in the next week and if you can't- pull out.

I've done the deed. They have had 1 teaspoon of baby rice each! Jacob kept pushing it out of his mouth, but when i went to get it off his lip with the spoon, he would open wide, thinking more was coming.....bless. Isobel pulled a yuk face but ate it all demurely, with little mess. Tempted to feed them more, but know not to.

chelle I don't tend to play with mine a lot. I learnt from Chloe. I played with her all the time and now i have a child who cannot entertain herself. I put them in their bouncy chairs, and leave them. If the moan, they get a rattle or a soft toy etc. When they start moaning after a while they will get moved to a playmat or the gym. I will then try other toys, when they moan after that. But everyday we do nursery rhymes and singing and also mummy time each. (where they talk to and play on me) Isobel is a talker. She ahs and ohs and ehs and uhs for britain. I thought Chloe was the talker but Isobel may surpass her, and Chloe was/is incessant! (rolls eyes) Smile

Crikey this thread just moves so fast. Been busy planning my dads 60th birthday party. We have bought him an IPod touch so I've been getting loads of his fave tunes from ITUNES. Had to faf around setting it all up on a different computer too.

Well, HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all. Hope you all had a fab time and are settling into post Christmas routines. Grin

Harlyn is totally over his bug now. Still suffering with colic and still often wakes up screaming in the night. i have just purchased some Colic Calm which was soooo expensive but worth a try. His reflux isn't too bad though he still constantly sicks up clear/watery liquid between feeds. He guzzles 8oz every 3/4 hours so was recommended to try him on a little baby rice. Gave it him this morning for the first time and although he ate the whole tea spoon, he much preferred his milk.

He also had his 2nd lot of jabs today. He cried a little but was much braver than the last time. He has started really chatting and making all sorts of squeaks and rasberry sounding noises. So cute.

Its so true that these LO's are growing so quickly. I just don't know where the time has gone.

13 weeks & 5 days (now weighing in at 15.15)

JodeyLea · 05/01/2011 13:20

raspberry even!

cinnamongreyhound · 05/01/2011 13:27

Agree with sassy34264 chelle1986, they need time with mummy with plenty of chatting and eye contact but they also need to learn to entertain themselves. I tried very hard with ds1 to leave him to it but he was a very needy baby :( but he is now a very contented toddler who will play alone and with others very happily. Luke is so contented and I know have so many more children that need my attention he does tend to get less time with me than I'd like but then he gets a lot of attention from the other kids too. I took ds1 to baby yoga and we both loved it but because I'm working full time now I know I won't have time so dh bought me the birthlights dvd for Christmas and we do it a few times a week. Also sing lots and am generally chatting to him where ever we go. Fingers crossed your good night continues all week!
