A starter for 10 on our Sept 2010 babies as their first Christmas comes nearer! Can't believe we're there already; I was barely pregnant last Xmas!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
sassy34264 · 17/12/2010 16:32

Cinnamon I think it might be because babies need iron and formula is fortified with it, whereas cow's milk isn't.

Debs75 I'd love to go out in my new car, but i haven't got one! Xmas Wink It's saoirse who is the lucky girl. I have my less than useful body to get me about, but hopefully after i become a gym bunny again, i will be running with the pram! Xmas Smile

saoirse I second debs75's advice, I would definately be getting DP on the case. Nip it in the bud before they end up taking over completely. I remember reading (years ago) about a mixed religous couple who had a child and the mum refused to christian it (or the equivalent) in her husband's families religion. Husband was fine with it, but MIL took the child to her church and had it done behind everyone's back!!!! Xmas Shock

Not saying yours are as bad as this at all, but it shows you how some MILs think there grandchild is more there child than it's mothers. Xmas Confused

DP is stuck in Bath or the minute. Xmas Sad He says the traffic is really bad. He was supposed to be back by now, but he's waiting til after rush hour tonight. Just praying this doesn't backfire with worse weather. BOO.

sassy34264 · 17/12/2010 16:34

oh god, can see loads of typos! sorry i'm tired.

cinnamongreyhound · 17/12/2010 18:08

That's what I mean sassy34264, that formula/breastmilk should be their main source of milk as it has more vitamins/minerals but that cows milk doesn't have to be avoided. Fingers crossed for your dp getting home!

Was going to say dixiebell I always darken the room but Luke still sleeps better at night than in the day but I guess you've figured that one out!

Dixiebell · 17/12/2010 18:31

Yes, have now had 2 naps in darkened room, both short! I have only managed to wrap one present in 3 days, gonna run out of time!!!

beaditAli · 17/12/2010 20:34

Dixie I've not wrapped a single thing and haven't even managed to write a card yet! Ah pap....... Xmas Sad Xmas Hmm

Great to read everyone's advice on the weaning issue. After all my worrying Jack actually seems to have turned a corner. He has drained 3 5oz bottles today which is unheard of. So hoping it'll continue. Also, the last few nights he's been asleep by 8-9pm and sleeps til 4ish then wakes again at around 8am but is happy to gurgle away to himself for a good half an hour. Really, I think he's a very easy baby tis just me that's been making life hard for myself by trying to work so much when he sleeps. Have lost a load of baby weight tho since I never have time to shop or eat! Xmas Smile Xmas Sad hee hee
On a worse not, he has his jabs on the 30th Dec Xmas Sad
sassy hope you got your DP by now and hope he helps you have a gorgeous restful/ish weekend!
His rash seems to be gone today too so Xmas Smile!!
LOVE the mai tei slings by the way!

Happy Nearly Christmas xxx

saoirse86 · 17/12/2010 21:02

sassy my parents didn't christen us so my (very catholic) grandad took us down to the church and had us done when we were about 2!!

sassy34264 · 17/12/2010 21:29
Xmas Shock

What did your parents do? Did they know about it beforehand?

DP has travelled 350 miles to get stuck coming out of Tesco a mile and a half away!!!! There was no snow here at 5pm, just looked outside and it is thick on the ground. Might be my fault cos he rang to ask if i wanted him to call at tesco. Xmas Blush Car may have to be abandoned. Hope you are all safe. x

MammyG · 17/12/2010 21:32

IT snowed here today! The place was white! Cant believe it - am 36 and dont ever remember it happening to this extent before. We live by the sea so only mountain tops get snow!
Dixie Im starting daytime routine after xmas I put the boys in a darkened room in their cot for their big nap - other little snoozes were downstairs in all the commotion. I found that they get to a stage where they need 2 hours peace and quiet. In the beginning they will only go half an hour or 40 mins but after a while they will get used to it and go longer. Mine started to go longer round the 16 weeks

Maple - Im not vegetarian but my eldest does not like meat and only rarely eats one or two types and very little of it. I just put out whatever dinner we are having and encourage them to give everything a try and leave what they dont like on the plate (rather than off the plate!) So I have one mostly vegetarian and one atkins boy! Between them they make a meal!

Saoirse The cheek of them not following your guidelines! I would loose the plot! Things have changed a lot food wise from when they used to do it. Even adding the extra scoop of formula can constipate the baby no end. Food has too many hidden sugars, salts etc now that they are dangerous for wee ones. My family at times thought I was daft esp as I didnt give the boys choc or sweets until they were 1 or later. They were all dying to treat them and my clan are fairly bolshy but they respected our wishes cause I laid it out nicely. If they railroad on one issue as big as food and get away with it you will be fighting a lot of battles soon.
Also my mom used to use the 'did ye no harm' line but now that I have IBS and a colon condition, my brother has had diverticulitis and other sis has IBS too - she is inclined to hear us out now! that said she is threatening to start bringing the boys to mass!
I think Phoebe not taking as much of her bottle has to do with how bunged up she gets. She doesnt have a runny nose but def gets a lot of phlegm in the back of her throat etc. She is inclined to take more if its warm too! If I rem correctly it was from about 14/15 weeks onwards that the boys started to 'settle' with their bottles and take them in one sitting.
Must go plan xmas menu to sort shopping list!

sassy34264 · 17/12/2010 21:45

beaditali Thanks love. He is here now. Normally he would spend all his time at the house, but the weather may just be on my side. Xmas Wink He is back for 3 weeks now as well. I think it just became christmas! Smile

bananastew · 18/12/2010 09:24

Saoirse I'd be furious. Especially the adding extra scoops. Thats the kind of thing my mil would do so I just send the little pots with the correctly measured out scoops in them. got no choice then! I also worry about her giving him food but you will know because it'll show in her nappies! Even something like custard will change her poo!

Ds1 actually calls my Mum MUM!!!!! Its because I do so he copies. We do all refer to her as Grandma but he still calls her mum!

Beadit Glad Jacks picking up.

Well, Olly was up at 5.10am! Why???? Why does he think thats acceptable????? Its not! Clearly! Especially as I was out on my works christmas do last night & dh is at work today! Anybody would think he was a baby! Xmas Wink

saoirse86 · 18/12/2010 11:23

Hehe banana I hope you're not dealing with a hangover too! Xmas Grin

sassy My mum went mad about the secret christening. It was not long after that that he also started saying some racist things in front of us too and my mum ended up not letting him see us for 3 months until he apologised!
I'm glad your DP made it out of tesco alive!

mammyg I always put the right number of scoops and water but when they're at mine they can just top it up with extra powder. Then they keep going on about how windy she is. What a surprise!! Xmas Shock

I'm kind of jealous of everyone's christmas parties. I've got none! Xmas Sad I don't have a work do for my day job as that's the family business. (If there was one I'd just find an excuse not to go anyway I think). Then my night job in the pub doesn't do work-do's because then who'd be working behind the bar? I might just dress Orlaith up and we'll have our own christmas party Xmas Grin .

I'm going to meet up with one of my best friends from school today. I haven't seen her for about 2 1/2 years because she lives in London. It's amazing how different our lives are now. She went to Cambridge uni, got a 1st, went to London and earns a fortune. I go to the open uni part time, still haven't finished, live with DP and my baby and earned a grand total of £5500 last year. I'm probably happier though Xmas Grin I wouldn't change it for the world.

Debs75 · 18/12/2010 11:24

Sorry sassy and saoirse should read the posters not just the posts[fbear]

We managed 3 hours in the cot last nightSmile. She had 2 blankets tucking her in so we are going to ditch the gro-bags and get her a fleece sleepsuit and see how that goes. I'm going to try and give her the middle of the night feed sat up as well so i get the chance to put her back in the cot

saoirse86 · 18/12/2010 11:54

I'm glad it went well last night Debs

Does anyone else ever realise it's 11.30 and they still haven't had a wee because they're so busy MNing looking after LO?!

I've just looked out the front to the car and road Xmas Hmm

cinnamongreyhound · 18/12/2010 13:37

OMG!!!!! Have just had the biggest poo explosion ever!! Was absolutely everywhere, had to bath him while screaming his head off as I took too long getting clothes over his head trying to avoid getting poo in his face. Poor little man, just feeding him now as he wouldn't stop screaming Xmas Sad

Still no snow here, very disappointed but dh is very pleased!!

Hope you're feeling ok bananastew!

It's nice that you are still friends saoirse86, I only have 2 friends without children and the rest have disappeared. Have a lovely day together!

Good luck with the cot debs75, I'm very lucky ds1 sleeps through absolutely anything!!!

saoirse86 · 18/12/2010 13:59

Well my day has been fully abandoned. There's probably about 7" of snow here. It took me ages to clear the car and then I tried to move it and I made it about an inch. I'm going nowhere! So I'm having a day at home just me and Orlaith.
DP's stuck at work about 8 miles away. His car can't deal with snow so he's thinking about walking home because all the buses are stuck!

cinnamon I've only got 2 friends who have children and my sister of course.

watersprite · 18/12/2010 14:59

Finally picked up the last few christmas presants, just got to wrap them now Xmas Smile 5" of snow here, started snowing about 11pm last night.

So tired today Maria-Ann had her last feed at 10:00pm then woke up at 11:45 and 2:00am brought her down stairs at 3:00 and my O/H settle her in her swing. I'm still so tired after going back to bed for a few hrs. I'm wondering if it's a growth spurt, if so hope she is better at sleeping tonight. I usually get about 3 half to 4 hrs a night :( My O/H went out and bought her another swing, so the other I had is up stairs hopeing if she wakes then I can settle her in that and transfer her to the cot, just need some sleep and i'm running out of idea's.

12 wks +4

comixminx · 18/12/2010 18:57

We've had a few inches of snow too: DP took Aphra into town in her sling & had to walk because of lack of buses... He's downstairs now wrapping pressies while I'm feeding her before a nap (hopefully).

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties at the moment getting her to sleep, watersprite! Fingers crossed she will settle tonight. We had a couple of dreadful nights with Aphra a couple of weeks ago but then she got better again so hopefully that will happen with Maria-Ann.

Aphra 15 weeks + 3 days

OP posts:
bananastew · 18/12/2010 19:11

I survived the day!

All of these snow comments, were me & was it newmum a couple of weeks ago! I'm very pleased we haven't had it again and I don't envy you lot!

Saoirse how do you pronounce your name?? I have lots of versions in my head when i'm reading!

watersprite · 18/12/2010 19:54

comixminx I'm rally hopeing she will get better at sleeping soon. I't could also be the injections she had a few days ago thats making her ratty and not sleeping.

bananastew I'm in Bolton and it's snowing on and off, it's suppose to be snowing all nxt wk too! I will probable be sick of it by then. Xmas Grin

Debs75 · 18/12/2010 20:02

We had loads of snow a couple of weeks ago and we still have big patches of ice around. No new snow but it is well below freezing

saoirse86 · 18/12/2010 20:56

banana I pronounce it sersha but my mum's from carlow in Ireland and she pronounces it sairsha, and my dad's family are from derry in northern ireland and they pronounce it seersha. I know I pronounce it wrong but I don't care! Xmas Grin

watersprite apparently most babies have a growth spurt at 12 weeks which can cause them not to sleep well for a few nights. I had 7 nights of pretty much no sleep last week. I just hope for your sake she gets through it quicker than that.

Well the snow's stopped now. We've had about 10-11 inches today.
DP managed to drive about 5 miles from work so only had to walk about 3 miles. He had the dog with him and she definitely enjoyed it. She's really cute in the snow Xmas Smile .
DP's 2 sisters like within about 1/2 mile so I went round to see one of them this afternoon. I had one huge mug glass of mulled wine and felt a bit tipsy so had to watch a bit of strictly and sober up before walking home Xmas Grin A successful trip out I think!

saoirse86 · 18/12/2010 20:57

Orlaith 12w 1d (3 months on christmas eve!)

bananastew · 18/12/2010 21:00
