Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
CrimboCakeandRoses · 17/12/2010 13:37

afternoon all

had a insane morning trying to take photos of the children. when will i realise that doing anything more than getting everyone dressed and fed is nigh on impossible these days?

just eating a mince pie or two to aid recovery

think i've accidentally made the postie think i fancy him by being a bit too friendly whenever he knocks (every day) Hmm

really good news that the gastroentero agreed with you mlic

you're braver than I am re dummy but i totally understand as F was just the same - I hated that dummy by the end of it. Took it away at 6months and spat on its grave.

Not sure what i'll do with A as she doesn't really drop it then ask for it except in the evenings - and that's improving. Think i'll wait til 6m, review her reflux and then decide.

Meeting a friend in some local tearooms (proper vintage china cups and home-made cakes and stuff Smile) shortly then will attempt to get close to finishing xmas shopping and buy some food/drink for tomo for friends coming over before panto tomo

Have a good day all Grin

ps we have snow!! see my pics on FB

CrimboCakeandRoses · 17/12/2010 13:40

oh and congratulations are in order... just beat F in a race round the kitchen on our hobby dragon and reindeer (like hobby-horses but not)

stac14 · 17/12/2010 13:53

docs are arseholes, phoned regarding r who is still shitting for scotland, has a barking cough, and has been sick but since she doesnt have a temperature she's 'probably fine' and 'maybe its viral'. So i asked if i should give more fluid and was told to 'see how she is' i didnt expect meds just maybe an interest instead i found the doc who is off for his hols. Oh and if i am worried i should phone nhs 24 who are 'quite good' knobhead! Soz rant over. Oh and apparantly babies under ten months cant get asthma, his ass!

cakes pics are fab and well done on winning the race.

dh aw lovely bout the scan this time last year i had mine, hard to believe she is now 23wks lol.

DesperateHousewifeIsXmasCrazy · 17/12/2010 14:33

haha just read my post back, meant to say I am at my sisters!

DylthanThroughTheSnow · 17/12/2010 16:35

Dylan was ment to have his flu jab today went to the surgery with him and bethan only to be told they had no vaccines for under 4's ( he's 4 on Christmas day) just wish they told me before I'd dragged both kids there especially in this weather Angry

Met up with mum and granny and went to the coffee shop for lunch since we were in the village anyway.

Dh has heard that no couriers are delivering to Scotland anymore because of the snow. So this means what he ordered for me probably won't arrive before Christmas so I'll have nothing to open Christmas morning Xmas Sad

We're going to pizza hut for D's birthday party on Sunday he wants a toy story birthday cake I just hope we'll be able to get one with the snow and lorrys not getting here. Everyone keep your fingers crossed for me Xmas Wink

memphis83 · 17/12/2010 17:47

oh dylthan got everything crossed that you get a cake and your present arrives in time!
mlic in one way your night sounds like a minor improvement!
stac your doc sounds about as shot as mine!
L has a rash all on his torso and face, not bothering him and pharmasist doesnt seem worried!?
came home from work today....yes work i had to prove to dh that women get on with things even when in pain Grin to a big pile of presents, dh wants them under my tree but ive told him they had to go back upstairs...he bought his own lovely paper sadly it doesnt match the tree!! Grin
let me have a feel one is a calender, he was with me when i got one last week!!
cakes i love the traditional reds, my plan was a couple of years with the green then once i had a baby go traditional and get a special bauble every year maybe next year Hmm although a friend got a lovely 1st xmas one for L looked it up online £18 i wont be going that special every year!

MyLifeIsFeelingFestive · 17/12/2010 17:51

Like I said stac, they don't diagnose asthma in young babies. Sorry she's not well. How long has she had diarrhoea for?

I'd be Angry about that too dylthan. But awwww his birthday's Christmas day though! Grin

Yep dh that's good going! W's on his, roughly, 4th cold since birth. If not 5th!

Congratulations on whipping your poor two year old's arse winning the race you big meany

Grin
CrimboCakeandRoses · 17/12/2010 18:27

i did let him win races 1, 2 and 4 though mlic Grin - actually by 4, i was knackered so it was a fair win.

memphis we let them choose a new decoration each year - i'm getting more frightened for my scheme as the years go on!

Poor R stac. just realised i probably sounded like i was speaking rubbish earlier re the baby i know who has asthma - it wasn't diagnosed as such due to the 2year thing mlic mentioned but she was showing strong symptoms and as her mother is severely asthmatic, the doc said it seems likely.

really hope you get everything in time for xmas dylthan

that 'i'm not at my sisters' really made me giggle dh!

MyLifeIsFeelingFestive · 17/12/2010 20:12

Oh and I forgot to say - I know it does seem a bit drastic cake but the way I see it, he's pretty bad now and he has a dummy. To let him get better (God permitting, fingers crossed) and then having to regress again when we get rid of the dummy sounds like a route I just didn't want to go down. I figured if I'm in the thick of it already, I'd may as well go the full hog!

He's actually been quite chilled today. From 4pm onwards he got harder and harder work, but that's because he was completely knackered as he's only catnapped all day. Even my Mam remarked about how he was in a much better mood and seemed more relaxed. He's been a joy actually...really pleasant to be with. I don't say that often. That's what I had to keep remembering when I was witholding the dummy at bedtime! It will be worth it, it will be worth it, it will be worth it...

memphis83 · 17/12/2010 20:22

mlic that last post is one to remember when your having a bad day...he's been a joy....really pleasant to be with!!

we havent had exploding nappies with L until yesterday went dads with a mini pack of wipes and it was all up his back, on sofa, my hands, jeans and coat and the same thing happened today for my mum!! very weird dont want it to keep happening i cant keep throwing away vests, im not washing them!! hope he gets better soon, mum said she really noticed a diference today mardy little boy

MyLifeIsFeelingFestive · 17/12/2010 20:49

I know memphis, I've been really happy today. It seems like a while since I've been able to say that. It's a shame that by the time dh got home he was twisting on again, so he hasn't seen him do much but be upset today (other than in the bath where he remarked how much he was kicking...erm yes dh, he does that every night, you're just never there to witness it!)

Poor L, hope he's on the mend soon. Has anyone on the thread actually got a baby that's not poorly at the moment? Confused

memphis83 · 17/12/2010 20:56

this thread is full of ill non sleeping babies!! does W like the bath even on off days? we put L in the bath and even if he is the devil child he turns happy!

stac14 · 17/12/2010 21:08

tbh didnt think she would be diagnosed asthmatic as ds was nearly 2 when it was him. The skits have been going for 4 days, kind of green and foamy. It probs is just viral. Doc just sounded a dickhead. She ate some baby rice there. I was more annoyed about his flippant manner. Didnt mean to sound as though i didnt believe you ladies Smile. Any advice on cough? X

DesperateHousewifeIsXmasCrazy · 17/12/2010 21:16

cakes haha yeah and me when I re-read it. It kind of made me think, 'Im not at my sister's, can you guess where I might be?' haha

Just so everyone knows (if you care lol) my sister's scan was fine and Im going to have another niece or nephew next June!

CrimboCakeandRoses · 17/12/2010 21:21

That's lovely to hear mlic. And deffo one to remember.

Can you pinpoint anything that's happened that could have made him happier?

I actually kept that post I wrote a week or so ago about how lovely my two were being as I knew I'd need to reread it when F became teething devil again (and I did). It's the good bits that make the bad bits bearable - you just need more of them and hopefully you will soon.

Mine are well-ish, both teething and a tad snotty but I've accepted that's par for the course with children.

God, I'm so over xmas dos - Dh's anyway. He's on his 3rd or 4th now cos he has to go to each of his team's dos. Lovely for him but i'm fed up with doing the bedtimes on my own. It's also annoying because I'm not able to sleep til he's back in (stupid but true)

CrimboCakeandRoses · 17/12/2010 21:21

teams' dos not team's dos actually

viksam · 17/12/2010 21:22

Oh man, u guys are sooo good keeping in touch on here and im very rubbish indeed, sorry!!
mylife bless him for sleeping in, how has this evening been?
stac how is R, thats shocking advice from the docs! hope she is better.
Memphis oh god, thats a serious nappy explosion!
I havent wrapped anything yet, you all sound very organized. So has there been a discussion about weaning? Whos doing it and how is anyone going about it? Im just trying to decide wether to jump in or to hold back till after xmas. We are going to Brum for a week on christmas day so it might be easier to wait. His feeding is terrible at the moment and i dont know why, he is on and off the bottle and crys a lot during a feed, the HV actually saw it the other day, said it was possible trapped wind or/and teething, its weird though, if 'helped' to some more he will have it but hes only getting through half the amount he usually does, its just making every bottle very stressfull and because hes not feeding properly in the day hes up and feeding at night. Do i really have to wait till potentially he starts loosing weight till they take anything seriously?

Sorry i dont mean to be all mememe but could really do with some clever mummy insite into this as its really bothering me.

CrimboCakeandRoses · 17/12/2010 21:23

that's great news dh always so reassuring to get the scan out of the way

MyLifeIsFeelingFestive · 17/12/2010 21:24

Yay for your niece or nephew dh! Hope s/he doesn't come on the day of your wedding though!

W has a dreadful cough too &stac. Sounds like a smoker of 30 years at the moment. I gave him some Boots cough medicine yesterday (for babies over 3 months) but it didn't seem to make any/much difference so I haven't bothered tonight. Just gave him Calpol before his bath and Calprofen after.

Yes memphis he loves the bath. Ds1 however, not so keen. I only wash ds1's hair every 2 or 3 weeks as it's such an onerous task. That sounds minging but toddlers don't excrete the same type of oils adults do so it never gets greasy. He creates absolute merry hell. Guess what, he needed his hair washing tonight as he got calpol in it last night (don't ask Confused) and spaghetti hoops tonight (I was in a hurry, don't judge me Wink). First time I've seen W cry in the bath I think, cos he was making such a comotion! But he was fine and stopped crying once his older brother got out!

viksam · 17/12/2010 21:26

OMG, u see this is why im soooo rubbish at keeping up, i cross posted big time and missed loads of everyones posts..........sorry.

MyLifeIsFeelingFestive · 17/12/2010 21:36

Welcome to my world viksam! I'm sorry it's starting to happen to you...this is what W's been like for most of his life, it's horrible isn't it! It's now been diagnised as a cow's milk intolerance but I'm sure you would have had problems a lot longer if that was the case for you. I don't honestly know. Have you felt his gums? Is there any sign of a tooth / teeth imminent? The middle bottom two are usually the first to appear. Maybe try using bonjela / dentinox / anbesol a few minutes before a feed, see if it makes a difference? FWIW W's feeding had improved somewhat but he's been funny today. I'm not sure if it's because he's got a cold or if it's teeth.

It sounds a bit mad as it's so soon cake but I don't know if it's him getting used to not relying on his dummy? It may be far too soon and a pure coincindence, I don't know.

Woodlands · 17/12/2010 21:44

ahhh, it's been a long day - dh has been in the office all day and then straight on to his Christmas party. He said last night, oh, i'll try not to be too late, but i said stay out as long as you like and have fun. he was really surprised and touched! i felt really bad! i think it is all a bit easier these days so I'm not totally desperate for help by 8pm like I was in the early days.

j has had a fairly good day anyway, he's been pretty happy, napped well so I've been able to catch up with some bits and bobs I had to do. Took him to bed at 7.30 and it has taken a while to settle him and I'm not convinced he's down for good now - but we shall see.

sorry to hear of all these poorly babies. everyone seems to be ill at the moment. sod's law j and I will come down with the lurgy just in time for Christmas - I was ill over Christmas two years ago and it was rotten, I stayed in bed all day.

my mum has just about convinced me to give J the odd stick of vegetable over Christmas - I want to do BLW anyway and I figure if he's not ready he won't eat it. So we shall see!

CrimboCakeandRoses · 18/12/2010 00:14

forgot to answer your question re wine tsc!

Love italian wines especially primitivo from puglia - there's a yummy one half price in sainsbo at the mo that kept me company tonight! sometimes in the mood for a nice cotes du rone or fleurie (more dh's taste but i'll partake). I'm a fan of the argie stuff too.

i like reds from pretty much anywhere thinking about it! Smile

you ok by the way? been quietish today.

CrimboCakeandRoses · 18/12/2010 00:17

intrigued about your the yemen/middle-easty one!

WhatSheSaid · 18/12/2010 02:48

Viksam I've started weaning, G is 5 mnths and she's just having a bit of pureed pear/carrot/sweet potato a day - not too much but she's pretty keen on it. Oh I mix in a bit of baby rice too. I know the official advice is 6 months - though I heard somewhere it may be going back to 4-6 months i.e you decide between those times when your baby is ready. I figure many babies in the past that started at 4 months were OK with it - though obviously there's no need to start till 6 months if your baby doesn't seem ready.

Also, living overseas but being on a UK website I'm aware of differences in guidelines between different countries. E.g. some of the stuff I was told NOT to eat while pg here is considered OK to eat if you're in the UK. And vica versa. So i figure the guidelines are just that - guidelines.

Cakes re your question about missing winter Christmases, maybe a bit when I was first here but not now - I quite like the sunny ones now! I do get a bit Confused when people buy that fake snow in cans and spray it all over their windows here - I mean we NEVER have snow in Auckland, even in the winter, let alone at Christmas. Also we don't put any Christmas lights on our tree (though some people do) as it's light till about 9.30 at the moment. So I feel like I would never turn them on.

It does feel a bit weird that the dds will grow up in a place where there is never snow. But about 3 hours away are some mountains that have lots of snow every winter and have ski fields there, so maybe when they are older we'll take them there.
