Hey all,

that sounds like good news tsc Grin and after the last few months that you've had, YANBU to think about getting £50 worth of baileys and mints!

Had a really chilled day today - met friends in a nice cafe and had a huge leisurely lunch then mooched around town before dashing home in the snow. Our town is a very old market town and looks lovely with all the lights at Christmas and even prettier when it snows.

I'm now snuggled up on the sofa with both children and the cat getting in on the action too.

Can I show off my present wrapping plans to the crafty ones amongst us please?

Aiming for both eco and pretty: I'm using brown parcel paper, an array of gorgeous red and white patterned ribbons (dots, gingham etc) and then a red star shaped bauble upon which i'll paint the name of the lucky recipient in white paint with red dots (that's the plan altho will prob look like tippex on a ruler, skool-stylee)

memphis your bunting and sack sound lovely! Envy

WhatSheSaid · 16/12/2010 19:01

Cakes your wrapping ideas sound very impressive, I'm afraid mine will all be wrapped in shiny red and green paper that is on special in my local shop Grin. And about babies sleeping through - I'm not sure if they're all like this or not. I classed my dd1 as a good sleeper and she stilk woke about once a night till 10 months - but once a night I could handle.

Mliff if I was on as little sleep as you, I wouldn't bother with ironing most things. Actually I don't bother with ironing most things, lack of sleep or not. There are about 3 work shirts of dh's that get ironed and everything else is just put away and not ironed.

Boo about your dh cancelling leave next week. Mine is working till 23rd, would have been 24th but Christmas Eve is our wedding anniversary so he is taking it off and is then off for 2 weeks after Christmas. Nearly everyone over here takes 2 or 3 weeks off at Christmas here as it's summer holidays too.

MyLifeIsFeelingFestive · 16/12/2010 20:17

See, this is what I don't get. He went to bed at 6.45 after a small feed. He woke crying at 7.05 so I went and gave him some more milk. He's just woken again, had to settle him off again. This is what happens all night*.

He goes into his crib after a feed but he's awake when I put him down. I have tonight moved his crib into the spare room. Although there's not enough room for it to stay there and I'll have to move it in and out every morning / evening, I would rather do that and feel like I can actually get away from him at some point. That sounds quite bad doesn't it? I just feel like I never get away from him ever as day and night he is there,a lmost attached to me, so at least this way in the periods where he actually sleeps I'll hopefully feel like I get a break. We'll see.

cake your wrapping sounds lovely. I just don't have the time to do stuff like that. Too bust ironing probably... Wink. Your day sounds far nicer than my morning of ironing with intermittent child/baby duties ie. snacks, nappies, feeds, naps etc., followed by a walk with the dogs in the snow/freezing cold. I wanted to get ds2 weighed today but just didn't find the time.

Aw how lovely that your anniversary is Christmas Eve wss. Must make it feel even more special! I had a winter wedding too - loved it :) And I'm afraid as much as I don't actually like ironing, I equally don't like wearing un-ironed clothes! So it's a sacrifice I have to make as I even iron pyjamas cos I don't like sleeping in crumpled clothes Blush. I decided today that I seem to be substituting sleep with food. There's been a lot of comfort-eating going on today / recently and I am getting decidedly porky. It's a good job I don't have a social life so have no party dresses to worry about Grin

WhatSheSaid · 16/12/2010 20:33

Mliff you say you have just moved his cot to the spare room, was he in your room before that? G's sleep has got better since we mooved her to her own room from our room - I wonder if we were disturbing her or if I was waking up at every little grizzle whereas now I only wake up when she is louder!

MyLifeIsFeelingFestive · 16/12/2010 20:41

He was yeah wss. I had him in another room (on another flipping floor) when we were on holiday though and he was no better. The first night he was better, up 3 times and I felt much better for sleeping more soundly between the wakings. The second time he was up 4 times then 6 times the third night and upteen times the last night. I honestly don't know what it is that wakes him / why he's so unsettled. I put him down awake. I don't feed / rock him to sleep. I decided this afternoon I need to go cold turkey with the dummy I think. I will see how long that resolve holds in the middle of the night though!

memphis83 · 16/12/2010 21:20

He's awake again

Wtf can I do to get him to SLEEP???

MyLifeIsFeelingFestive · 16/12/2010 21:40

Scratch that. I'd listened to it for a few minutes whilst thinking I really don't want to go up and then posted and sat and listened.

And he stopped.

For now.

stac14 · 16/12/2010 22:00

On the plus side dp and i are having a nice time being together, the deckies are up, pressies bought and just a few bits to do. R has a night time cough begining to worry about asthma as both boys have it, here teeth are aching, she has the skits and not great with her solids but taking bottles. Don't know whats going on with her. Sorry to go on. Hope everyone is well. Going to settle lo then have a read through x

aw stac poor little riliegh. hope it's not asmthma! its nice to have some quality time with dp i'd say! i never really get that luxury but he's off for a few days over christmas so looking forward to that! we're planning on bringing ellie to see santa on sunday but it all depends on the weather now!
mlic i really feel for you. just so bloody annoying that he won't stay asleep. does he fall in to a deep sleep when he does sleep or is it a fitful sleep? surely he needs a good sleep too!
cakes your wrapping sounds so nice! mine is purple and gold to match the tree! and now since people are dropping over presents for ellie they're all different wrapping papers and its taking away from my colour scheme!! i'm not actually that bad!
memphis you poor thing you're really having a run of it aren't you!
Crazy busy with work this week. Not long finished and have to face into blowdrying my own hair now before i go to bed :(. feel like i haven't seen ellie at all today as she was at the childminders til 6 and i was still working until half 8 and she was gone to bed by then and i really missed having time to play with her! its's only for this 2 weeks and then back to normal.

i actually went to the shop after i was finished this eve tsc and treated myself to a bottle of baileys and profiteroles! have devoured the profiteroles and had a glass of wine and am saving the baileys until sat night for a lovely baileys coffee with whipped cream!

OP posts:
CrimboCakeandRoses · 16/12/2010 23:46

memphis that wrapping sounds gorge. I love that green - I'm a sucker for traditional colours but was being a bit tempted by that green today when I kept seeing it.

mlic did W's increasingly bad sleep on hols coincide with any type of food/milk which he might have struggled with? I think it has to be wind pain waking him so much as it deffo sounds as tho he should be able to self settle given you put him down awake. Does he sleep any better after he's had calpol for something?

wss I love hearing about your food/weather etc altho my brain srruggles to process xmas equalling summer hols! :-)

My wrapping was quite thrifty actually - parcel paper is v cheap and (aside from the john lewis ribbon I splashed out on) the ribbon was from the lovely ribbon man at the market (I always think proper ribbon is sooo cheap esp compared to the shiny stuff) then I got the baubles 3 for 2 so they weren't much more than gift tags!

Oooh and hot news here - have been invited to join a book club :-) My friends were even more excited than me when I invited them along - esp when I explained it was in the evening in an actual pub! Saddos, all of us.

keep forgetting I'll need to stop mumsnetting to read the bloody book tho.

CrimboCakeandRoses · 17/12/2010 00:03

Took so long to post that as keep stopping that new posts have Xposted mine

tsc really laughed at clara saying that to frankie. Did nurse manage not to laugh?

I'm actually wondering whether there's a baileys-shaped gap in my life after hearing your and kk's enthusiam for it. Don't drink anything but red wine normally. Other than coffee - how else do you drink it?

memphis your poor tooth sounds terrible. You seem to be going thru a teething phase in your household!

stac really hope R doesn't have asthma, bless her. Hopefully just a cough as they all seem to have them off and on. Ought to mention tho that two people I know who had severe asthma (steroids and pumps) and a third (a baby) all turned out to be dairy-intolerant and are literally cured if they don't have dairy - might be worth investigating as it's apparently relatively common but not always known by docs.

WhatSheSaid · 17/12/2010 00:05

What's the book Cakes? I used to read loads but hardly at all lately.

Christmas in the sun was very odd for the first couple of years but I've been here 9 years now so I'm used to it. It's actually a lot more laid back - a lot of people go camping or to holiday houses over Christmas, so there's less traffic around plus it seems to be less commercial over here - no ads in October, not such a huge build up.

Most people don't do the full Christmas dinner as it's too hot, it's more about sitting outside with a few drinks and some barbecue food. Or going to the beach. There just doesn't seem to be such big expectations about the day itself, everyone's quite laid back and happy to not do too much.

WhatSheSaid · 17/12/2010 00:07

Baileys - I used to drink it with lots of ice

CrimboCakeandRoses · 17/12/2010 00:19

sounds like it really suits you there but do you miss brit-style christmas wss?

the book is the road

looking up that link, i only just realised that i've watched the film!

Book clubs sound great, i love reading but like everyone else havent had time, even the shred dvd is in the wrapper lol.

mliff hope you get a better sleep

Wow, i can go on lol, hey to anyone i missed Smile

MyLifeIsFeelingFestive · 17/12/2010 09:36

Well it was a very strange night chez chaotic last night. He stirred at 11pm as we were going to bed so I came down and made a bottle. But when I went back up he was fast asleep, and wouldn't drink the bottle. So I left it, he woke again at 12.30 and I fed him then, although he only had about half a bottle. He woke at 1.30 and then 2.10 but at that time didn't go back off until 3.30 other than for 10 minutes Angry. I took him downstairs and dh came down - he was screaming blue murder and I think dh wanted to check I wasn't murdering him. I'm glad he did really as it made me calm down - I was very angry by this point. He had calpol at 2.20 but it made no difference. He eventually went back off after some more milk at 3.30. He woke at 6am but I was just too exhausted to go through. He did cry for a while, but next thing I knew dh was telling me it was 7.30! He was sleeping so soundly he didn't hear us having a conversation with ds1 on the landing Confused I woke him up at 8am and have struggled to get milk into him cos he's so full of cold. Have just put him down for a nap.

I forgot to tell you the gastroenterolgist finally rang me back y'day about the reasons for doing an endoscopy. After what I told him about the flare-ups he agreed it was a cow's milk intolerance, told me what to avoid, and referred us to a dietician. Hopefully that won't take too long to go through.

I'm not a big Baileys fan, but then I don't like coffee. I too only really drink red wine, with the odd gin & tonic / vodka & tonic.

Sorry about the lo's cough stac. Ds1 is what is classed as a 'happy wheezer', ie he wheezes and you can hear what sounds to be a rattle on his chest, but his lungs are always clear when they're checked. I was told back when I first got him checked out (about 16 weeks) for the wheeze/rattle that they don't diagnose asthma in children until the age of two, because before then they can't be sure. I appreciate your family history, but it's still unlikely they'd diagnose before 2. Best to check her lungs are clear if you're worried though.

PS, my reserve held. All but for about 10 seconds. I didn't give him his dummy [proud of myself emoticon]

kkfairybrains · 17/12/2010 09:59

Mlic im thinking of getting rid of dummy too. 6 Times E woke for it last night.
But she's all snotty again so i think that was why too. Ended up bringing her into the bed at some unknown hour. She's gone very touchy feely and kept rubbing my face and slapping my arm and kept grabbing and letting go of my lip and chin! and i can't sleep facing anybody and she loves having her nose touching mine, which is quite sweet but not when i've such a busy day with work!
I love my baileys with coffee, its lovely with brandy but my absolute favourite is stick it in the blender with plenty of ice until the ice is really crushed up. Its just bloody lovely like that. But don't let anybody else taste it as everybody loves it and then your whole bottle will be gone!!
Mlic thats good that he agreed with you. Do you always wake him in the morning?
is it snowing where everyone is? There was a light scatter if it here last night but not to bad

OP posts:
MyLifeIsFeelingFestive · 17/12/2010 10:17

No kk I never wake him! That's what was so odd. Even with me, dh and ds1 talking on the landing at 7.30 outside the room he was sleeping in, he still didn't wake up. Most unlke him. That's what promted me to get rid of the dummy with both my boys - I remember distinctly the last night E had a dummy he got up 6 times in 7 hours at the age of 7 months. I vowed never again and that was it. And as W is even worse than his brother was, he's getting his confiscated earlier! I think dummies are great for newborns and also if they don't get too reliant on them, for babies. But both mine have been too reliant on them and I thought W needed to learn to get through the day, never mind the night, withour one from now on. If it's still going well by tomorrow, they'll all go in the bin and I can't be tempted to give in :)

It snowed here yesterday but was far too wet to lay. No snow overnight but I think more's forecast for today. My Mam's off work today, waiting for her to ring to see what she wants to do. Not that I've even had a shower yet...suppose I'd better crack on!

stac14 · 17/12/2010 10:22

mliff good news about the gastroentorologist getting you the dietician. Do they still want to do the endoscope? I know your right about the asthma diagnosis as was the case with ds. I may just see how she is over the weekend.

kk you must be knackered, so cut bout her wanting to touch you rileigh wants to pull the covers on her face x

All with a poorly Dylan, he has a cold :(

To be fair though, its his first ever illness, not bad for over 5 months.
